Totally agree, I knew nothing when I got my first baitcaster, birds nest every cast. Then I was shown by a guy with more experience. I still watch these videos and they help loads. 😁
Holly Crap Dude. I have never used a baitcaster in my 66 years on this planet so I went out and bought the 9.3:1 Kast Kast Speed Demond reel (65 pound Kast King Braid) and put it on a 7'3" Kast King Xtra Heavy Froggin rod because here in Northern Michigan I have countless lakes with weeds and lily pads. I went out back to practice and for the next hour I removed birds nest after birds nest but refused to give up. I got a little better when I put a little heavier hook less weight on. I came in here and found your video and while sitting in my cave I adjusted the brakes the way you described. I went back up and within minutes I thought I was Roland Martin because I was so much better. I still need the one thing you mentioned and that is Practice Practice Practice but want to thank you so much for helping me out with this. I still love my spinning reels but this opens up a new world of fishing in my retirement years. Thanks. Steve
Great post Steve! I just got my first baitcaster and am feeling pretty intimidated, but I found ur comment to be inspirational. Hope you’ve been doing some great fishing 🎣 😃

Hey there, I just bough my first bait caster from Cabela's a couple of hours ago, I have been study the videos on you tube. I want to encourage you Kaptain you are a teacher at heart, you broke it down so simply it all came together for me. Thank you so much I am 72 yrs.
I watched a few beginner bait casting clips, all done by younger "experts". By far you are the best teacher; you really do explain what's going on with the controls. Most who claim to be experts are poor teachers... unfortunately, that describes most college level "teachers". Thanks for posting such an informative lesson...I'm so glad I found your channel!
Yeah fam., school /college teachers are only as good as their "teachers edition" textbook - Which os full of lies and half truths at best. The reason they arnt good teachers is that ... Nothing they teach can be proven , you just have to accept lies and half truths as facts. You cant show someone how it works, cuz it dont work like the books say. Therefore teaching that stuff is hard. The best they can do, is to make the lie's interesting. Whereas , when a teacher teaches actual evidently true facts, and they show and tell you how it works. It makes sense , and you can see how it works - which makes the information interesting and easy to learn, and that is a good teacher of the truth. They have good teachers of lies too, really good ones. They ise big fsncy words so they sound intelligent while speaking of non sense, and they are charasmatic story tellers, that is what makes a good teacher of lies. The info is non sense, but if presented with flare, the lies are learnable, but its lies - they cant prove that stuff. A teacher of the evident truth, who shows and tells/ prooves to you how things work - is always going to be the best teacher. What is the point of learning lies anyway? If you believe their lies and non sense - you become a slave who thinks that slavery is freeness, and that evil is good and that good is evil, and you are believing lies to be true. That is a bad teacher, but they tend to be real good at it/ teaching the lies, some of them do.

This inspired me to use my bait caster that I haven’t ever got into using because I was afraid of a birds nest that I couldn’t fix. This helped me understand a bait caster and not be afraid of a birds nest
I enjoyed this tutorial. more in depth on the use of the tension control vs the brake in the initial setup. I'll be using this on my first baitcaster tomorrow. Looking forward to it!
This is the first baitcasting video that I watched that actually gave me the confindence that I can effectivly use this type of reel with out massive issues. This video alone earned you a sub. Can't wait to watch more.
I just got my first Bait caster rod and managed to stumble onto your video . I really like how you explained each piece to the reel and step by step instructions ! I subbed thank you , I'am looking forward to your next video !
I got a baitcaster when I was 14 and hated it. 20 years later, I watched this video and mustered up the courage to buy another one. Totally different experience after using what I learned from this. Got skunked but had a blast just casting! THANK YOU!!!
I love the video. Clear and easy to follow for anyone. The one part that I didn’t see was the size/diameter of line to use on a bait caster. I’ve read that a heavier line is ideal. Somewhere in the 15lb-20lb for mono/ flouro and heavier for braid. Mono would be more forgiving to the rookies learning about baitcasting and not have their lures snap off when they forget to use their thumb correctly and that dreaded birds nest occurs.
I wish I saw this video when I got my first bait caster I learned more from this video than the 10 I watched trying to learn everything about it this is wonderful

First time I've seen your channel. You gave an excellent instructional video about bait casters that I so desperately needed. I really needed to watch how you did an overhead cast. I find it soooooo difficult.
Hi from the uk. I've been fishing for 58 years carp and sea fishing with fixed spool reels. Today I got myself a bait caster reel and this is good advice thanks for sharing mate. All the best and tight lines to all fishermen and fisherwoman top man
I've been using a baitcaster like a noob for two seasons.. I've gotten pretty good with thumb control out of necessity because I wasn't setting the reel controls at all it was wide open.. I had no idea really what the controls were.. This video just made me an expert in 10 minutes.. you are a legend! Saved me so much time and frustration!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I never would have known how that magnet system ever work. You explained so thorough and precise plus easy to understand and COMPREHEND! Definitely saving this video and ready to put into practice and share! You got yourself a New Subscribe! 😉👍
Great info! I got my grandson a bait caster because he said that's what he wanted. He tried many times but finally gave up on it. It sits in my garage now. I decided to get one and give it a try this coming spring. With the information you gave me I am confident I can learn how to use one affectively and teach my grandson also! Nothing worse than a good bait caster sitting in the corner of my garage gathering dust! Thanks a lot from this Old Ohio fisherman.
I must've watched about half a dozen videos on how to use a Baitcaster by now and I still got bird's nests every time I went out to practice. Must've cut around 300ft of line by now. I was close to giving up but this is the first video I've actually seen that properly explains every mechanism of this deceptively complex reel, and what part each component plays. Before, I didn't even know the purpose of the magnetic break. It seemed redundant to the spool tension knob. And there's a lot of contradictory statements out there regarding how you should set your spool tension, anywhere from all the way up to all the way down. Mixed in with the break I just felt so lost. I'm much more confident now to go out again, practice my casts and give it another whirl after watching this. Many thanks from this new, inexperienced angler! God bless
I have been fishing overhead reels for over 50 years and I thought your explanation was the best I have ever heard. Well structured and simple to follow. Thank you. Awesome!
I am a real beginner at the baitcast reel, I have looked at five other instructors and yours is by far the best at explaining the methods of using one, will be watching for more videos, thanks for your help
Also I was fishing my new kastking fishing pole and I’m sad to say I got my lure stuck in some weeds pulled on the pole and the tip broke off the first day out I was so bummed after paying 60 bucks ????
just bought my first bait caster and made a video on my channel for putting line on the spool. Your video explained a lot and helped clear up why I was getting birdnests on EVERY single cast last night. Awesome content thanks for the help!!
Man things have changed since I was a kid in the 50's. When I took my then 7 and 8 nine year old fishing with a bait caster spent half the time untangling the birds nest or have climbed many a tree to retrieve a lure.Soooo yee old Zebco reel solved e everything solved the problem. Now my son is 52 I'm 75 is real nice about taking care of old dad . We both love bait caster reels. Good job on the video.
Recently bought my baitcaster and I have watched several videos on how to cast and tune up my reel, but I must say...yours was one of the best!!! Easy to follow and understand (especially after you broke down the operation of the reel) I am enjoying my reel MUCH more and look forward to going out and practicing all you taught me!!! Thanks for the great video!!! Nena
Lmao @ centripitafugal, doesn’t matter. In all seriousness, great explanation, I’m a noob with the baitcaster, as a matter of fact. Just bought one yesterday. I looked through a bunch of great videos before yours. Yours is the best one, because it’s a thorough explanation, and makes me feel a lot more confident about purchasing a baitcaster instead of a spinning reel, in which I have 3. Great video, great explanation. Two thumbs up 👍, and also subscribed to your channel.
My main interest as a retired person has turned to becoming a good to excellent local rod & reel fisherman. Never, ever, tuned into the how's and how not to does, now the learning curve is on. What a great find KastKing as I wisely chose a baitcasting reel. If I was able to learn to drive gasoline driven vehicle, why not master a rod so excellent in design, and learn the fine tuning thanks to this channel. Thanks.
Hi there Nicasio. A very happy retirement to you. We are so happy you enjoy our products. Enjoy your retirement. Live your life now and enjoy every moment as you so deserve.
I just replaced my Ambassadeur 5000 and 5000C with KastKing and Piscifun baitcasters. This is a whole new world for me, as I’m seventy-three and stuck in the past a bit. This video was very helpful and you, Sir, are a born teacher. Thank you!
Everyone starting out it’s better to use heavier baits. 1/2-3/4 ounce to start. Never try to throw a weightless senko to start you will have a bad day.
My biggest problem was "loading the rod", the casting style is sooooo much different than spinning tackle. I couldn't figure out how close the lure needed to be to the rod tip, or how far away. It is definitely a learning curve.
My first bait casting reel, about 1960 or so, was one of those old solid-brass, direct-drive jobs... No “freespool”. Trying to teach myself to use it, I got backlash after backlash. Then, I read an article by my old fishing guru, Jason Lucas, in Sports Afield magazine. Talked about using your thumb to control the spin.... What a revelation! Worked a treat. Eventually, I got my parents to buy me the then “top of the line” bait caster, the Abu/Garcia “Ambassador 5000”. Freespool, star drag, centrifugal anti-backlash feature. Very nice. I haven’t been fishing since my late 20s, no gear at all... But I’m getting the bug. Everything is so different now I have to do some research!
Great video btw . Been fishing in NY (unfortunately) for my 38 years on this earth with on spinning equipment.... ive always wanted to get a baitcaster but my old man always talked me out of it. Now i am ready to learn and your video helped a ton with that decision. Thank you and god bless you for being able to do what you love for a living man!
Thanks I currently have no thumbs cause my sister was doing the crab walk down the stairs like exorcist and she proceeded to bite my toes and thumbs off like if happened to you to This is a joke if nobody knows
I have been using a bait caster for a few years now and you just told me more in the time of this video than I ever just figured out or was shown by others, great video thank you
From a beginner with a baitcaster, I truly appreciated the insight and knowledge you passed on in this video. You explained it 10 times better than the last 6 videos I've watched. It finally clicked while watching your explanation on how the work. Thank you thank you sir!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Like others on here, you have convinced me to get my first baitcaster. I tried a friend's out ONCE years ago when he offered, and got a BIG ol' birds nest. Have had zero desire to ever get one, until I watched your video. Thanks for such a great explanation of the workings of the mechanism, and the "how to" for casting. GREAT video!
Thankee Kap'n , I started out on early baitcaster with no brakes , moving up to low profile braked models , I had no major problems - until U switched to bfs gear , the , trend on bfs is to slacken the spool tension right back until there is minimal spool play , you reminded me of the way I used to set up - so I just tried it again with bfs gear et voila , and went back to the way you demonstrated , and voila - it works- I still use the thumb as you say because that's where baitcasters score over spinning reels -you can slam the thumb down to avoid and overcast and you are in immediate contact with the bait . subbed.
So I just got a baitcaster. 1st cast? Backlash!!! i have watched 4 or 5 videos on hw to cast one. Man ur a godsend!!! U have explained it w/so much detail that EVERY BEGINNER SHOULD WATCH THIS!!! Good $h!T Bro!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Just picked up a baitcaster today and was so excited, got it all rigged up and took it out to practice on the blacktop aaaaand... birds nest. So bad I had to cut all of the line out of the spool using an exact blade. Since that moment I've re-spooled and hopped on RUclips. This video perfectly explained everything for me and so far tonight after 30-40 casts on the blacktop, I've had 3 or 4 minor birds nests. After the 5th or 6th cast I made the adjustments and got her tuned up nice. All set to give it a go on the water tomorrow. But I'll be bringing along my spinner reels just in case 😅
Instead of accepting the fears of casting reels (CR) of my concerned friend I decided to purchase a CR and rod and so glad I did, even as a beginner. Thank you that I found your instructive video which not only benefits beginners but seasoned anglers who never properly learned the in/outs of casting reels.
I have two baitcasters only used one other is new never used. Problems with first messed with my head so much, gave up for a while I'm 67 started using RUclips and just happened to find a video on baitcasters been studying up on it. So glad I found your video by far the most helpful to me to help me get started with the casting part loved it. Great Job, man!
I am impressed with how complete was this explanation. I have seen a few videos teaching about casting manners but Waoo this guy is a monster teaching. Keep doing such amazing videos dude. Mister George, this new guy is goooood
I have found the man that knows what he is talking about and has great communication skills!! Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much. I learned a great deal today and cannot wait to try what I learned today!
This is the most absolute straightforward video on this subject that I have seen since I bought my first bait caster on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. I haven`t used it yet but after watching your video, I`ll be good at this a lot sooner than I would from watching some of the others. Not a lot of jibber jabber, just right to the real deal. I have subscribed and will be watching more of your videos.
Thank you for this video. I've been thinking about purchasing my first bait caster. Now I understand why you pros own so many rods for specific lures ect. I feel alot better about trying a bait caster now after watching this video. Thank you very much.
Noticed the Kast King reference,so I clicked on because I've become a big fan! 60 years ago my first "real" rod and reel was a Pfleuger baitcaster with a clicker. Needless to say a six year old who learned to fish with a cane pole went almost out of my mind! My friend, Sam made green with envy when he got a Zebco 202. I discovered open faced spinning reels and had a ball, but the rods remained light weight for a long time. They are better now but I have bought several b"casters now. They are better than the old ones and have a lot better control. What I get a kick out of is tournament pros who tell us always use the rod to fight the fish and the reel to take up line, then turn around and say get a baitcaster for cranking "power"! Sometimes they just don't think while they're talking.
Wow, I’m just speechless on how great you explained how a bait Caster works. Truly want to thank you because it has helped me and no longer need to spend time in watching videos, but instead I’m spending more time fishing!
I just came across your video today. I had a baitcaster and I returned it due to backlash and not knowing how to properly set it.. after watching your video you have encouraged me to go buy and try again. You really explained in detail how it works. Thank you KK for the awesome help 👏!

This was a huge help, thank you. Was on the verge of selling my baitcasters 😂
God bless
Got my first one and I’ve been outside all day practicing casting it
Me too
I have been fishing overhead reels for over 50 years and I thought your explanation was the best I have ever heard. Well structured and simple to follow. Thank you. Awesome!
very helpful...never understood the magnetic brake...this helps tremendously!
I am a real beginner at the baitcast reel, I have looked at five other instructors and yours is by far the best at explaining the methods of using one, will be watching for more videos, thanks for your help
Thanks for tuning in!
Duuuude I just got my first baitcaster and wow set it up just like you said and bam no backlash Thanks bro northern Cali
I really appreciate it for teaching us thanks again. That’s was very helpful I really enjoy it
Man things have changed since I was a kid in the 50's.
Thank you so much for watching
Excellent job - you would make a good teacher.
My thoughts exactly.
Nena
Glad we could help!
I just bought a Spartacus plus it's my 2nd baitcaster still waiting for it but I'm amped about it for a frog rod and reel set up
I just replaced my Ambassadeur 5000 and 5000C with KastKing and Piscifun baitcasters. This is a whole new world for me, as I’m seventy-three and stuck in the past a bit. This video was very helpful and you, Sir, are a born teacher. Thank you!
Charles Noyes Thank you so kindly for your kind words. Thank you for watching and for your support. 💙
Everyone starting out it’s better to use heavier baits. 1/2-3/4 ounce to start. Never try to throw a weightless senko to start you will have a bad day.
Haha! I found that out the hard way!
lol I started with a senko and had a perfect day and caught a bass . I have 13 Origin TX tho
I had no idea what I was doing, and tried using a spinnerbait with no weight. I was ready to throw the rod in the water.
Haha I got the same baitcaster the guy in the video is using, great video though really helped me with my casting abilities on a baitcaster
Dude this is the most helpful video stg 💯
I've had a baitcaster for over a year, first time someone broke down how it works that I could follow along. Great presentation 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks for watching!
Thanks I currently have no thumbs cause my sister was doing the crab walk down the stairs like exorcist and she proceeded to bite my toes and thumbs off like if happened to you to
This is a joke if nobody knows
NLS aptux 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahahahahahaha
I just bought a bait caster and have spent the last hour looking up beginner videos and this one was the most helpful by far. Thank you
So happy it helped
So happy it helped
I have been using a bait caster for a few years now and you just told me more in the time of this video than I ever just figured out or was shown by others, great video thank you
Thank you for watching
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching
I never fully understood how to control a bait caster until now. You broke it down into simple, clear terms. Excellent tutorial! Thank you!!
So happy we can help
Just got my 1st bait cast at 60 yrs old i going to have to watch this over a few times but thanks it looks like i found the right teacher
That’s so good to hear, Johnny
The Best, the most comprehensive and easy to understand the BAIT CASTER!
This is the BEST explanation of a baitcasting reel I've ever heard. Outstanding video! Thanks!
Instead of accepting the fears of casting reels (CR) of my concerned friend I decided to purchase a CR and rod and so glad I did, even as a beginner. Thank you that I found your instructive video which not only benefits beginners but seasoned anglers who never properly learned the in/outs of casting reels.
Thank you for tuning in
Just got my first bait caster, hands down one of the most informative videos for a beginner like myself
That’s so awesome!
Hi there. Thanks for watching
Just gotta say, love how encouraging he is at the beginning
I am impressed with how complete was this explanation. I have seen a few videos teaching about casting manners but Waoo this guy is a monster teaching. Keep doing such amazing videos dude. Mister George, this new guy is goooood
This is hands down the greatest explanation of a baitcaster, from how it works to how to use one I have ever heard! Fantastic video!!!
Awesome to hear! Glad it helped
I have found the man that knows what he is talking about and has great communication skills!! Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much. I learned a great deal today and cannot wait to try what I learned today!
Thank you for watching
This was thee most informative baitcasting "how to" for beginners I've found. Excellent job!
Elnyne So happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and for your support ❤️
Thank you Cap. Mike for the support and help with the caster
Thank you for making this video. I’ve watched 20 different explanations on baitcasters and they never really clicked like yours. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for watching
Just purchased my first baitcaster ( 67 yo). Great video. I’m exited to try it this next week! Thanks for the clearly demonstrated tips.
Thank you for watching and for sharing with us.
I just purchased a bait caster yesterday. This is the best video explanation I’ve seen. New subscriber. Thanks
Wow, I’m just speechless on how great you explained how a bait Caster works. Truly want to thank you because it has helped me and no longer need to spend time in watching videos, but instead I’m spending more time fishing!
Thank you for watching
By far, one of the best instructional videos I’ve ever watched!!!
Wow, thank you so much for this video!! Finally someone who explains each part of the baitcaster reel in easy plain English!!
I got my first bait caster today so I've been watching a lot of these videos, Have to admit I like this one the most.
I just came across your video today. I had a baitcaster and I returned it due to backlash and not knowing how to properly set it.. after watching your video you have encouraged me to go buy and try again. You really explained in detail how it works. Thank you KK for the awesome help 👏!
Good luck out there!
@@KastKing most definitely!😁
