I agree! Many dimensional information. It really helped me figure out what to use when (just got my first baitcasters). And inspired me to master the technique!
Great video, really informative for me. I do alot of trout and cat fishing with my spinners and it works great but I am coming up short in landing bass in heavy cover. Your video explained why... Can you please tell my wife why I need another rod and reel Captain.
I was all baitcaster a few years ago but I must say I’ve been using several spinning combos these past two years and they are now probably my favorite I’ve caught the majority of my fish catfish and bass on my spinning combos I absolutely love them
right thats my mind set now , i want baitcaster i have my heart set on a particular baitcaster i seen at walmart for $30 and i feel if i can take the time to learn the baitcaster then the baitcaster is gonna be my best friend and solve all my petty problems
Carlos Espinoza I just got my first Baitcaster, a Kastking Royale Legend, $39.00 & absolutely love this reel, a little complicated at first to figure out but only took me a few minutes & it’s a game changer, so much better for heavier baits, I use my spinner for lighter baits, get one , it’s well worth it
I don't usually comment, but I felt the need after watching this great well informed video between the differences. I use both and have been fishing well over 40 years, just glad the equipment is much better and more economical these days:) I would agree with you about your spinning assessment with the exception of rod selection and speed ratios, as today's offering are much different than 10 or 20 years ago. Spinning rods are offered with some great backbone today, such as the Ark Sniper rods and I use 6.2:1 ratio spinning reels for heavier and faster setups. Ironically, enough I went out and searched for faster spinning ratios and noticed that KastKing makes a 7.2:1, all though I've never used them? Again, great video, but if you practice with either spinning or baitcaster reels and properly pair it up with correct rod, you'll have confidence throwing a multitude of lure types and weights with either. Spinning is still king with light finesse action in my opinion, as I've caught plenty of 10#+ monsters with 6# test using 1/16oz. with a #2 hook. You cannot horse them like a typical baitcaster setup, but with patience and a great fight you'll get them in with a little skill. Thanks, Larry
Amen, I 100% agree, I fish both and I only go for bait casters for when I am sticking to one setup, .I.e. 1/4 oz jig and 4 inch artificial, for a good bit. Baitcasters biggest advantage is hookset imo, everything else goes to spinning.
I typically don't leave comments and have been looking at many different videos. This by far was very informative, clear and straight forward. Thank you!

This channel by far offers the best in-depth info on everything need to know between the 2. That little triangle on the pec totally looks like a slanty nipple. I can't get it out of my field of vision! Edit: great video Kaptain. Easy to understand as my son needed someone who "knows what he is talking about", to prove his spinning setup is fine. He has my baitcaster for whenever he feels the need to create a bird nest.
This is one of the most comprehensive yet concise explanations. After watching dozens of other videos, this is the video I’d recommend !! I’m due for a new rod/reel and now I’m not gonna fear the baitcast
Great video, very easy to understand. I pretty much use Kastking exclusively. They make products that are easily comparable to Garcia, St. Croix, Lews, etc. at much more affordable prices. The reason for there affordability is not that they use cheaper products but they are a direct sell company which mean that they sell straight to the customer and do not use mid men (Bass Pro Shop, Walmart, Cabelas). This in-turn gives us consumers much better prices. They also are great to put out great videos about there products to help the customer better understand what they are all about. I highly recommend there products. Thanks again for a great video.
Pretty thorough, enjoyed this video, learned a lot, I’m from Florida and live in pa, like videos where the person teaching is a likeable person, thanks for the knowledge.
Wow you make fishing easy to understand. Im new to fishing and your explaination made it more clear, understandable, and not frustrating or complicated.
I agree this really helped me decide which I like better definatly fly fishing but also spin gear...but I'm still going to practice with my 1 bait caster I've never successfully cast without cutting all the line off...thank you Mr pumpkin
Thank you, my Dad just retired and we've been doing a ton of fishing but for smaller rainbow trout. I want to invest in some better gear and was interested in bait casting but this is soon helpful. For what we are doing, it'd make more sense to stick with Spinning. Thanks again!!!
Good job and a clear explanation of both types of rod and reel combos. I am a recent boat owner and can now fish away from the shore and have never owned a bait caster before. Now I know the difference and will be well informed when I get my first bait caster. I also have had several occasions when the line spun too fast out of control of my spinning reel and became so tangled, I had to stop fishing and cut the line and re-thread, re-connect everything. Seems that is not a problem with bait casters.
Very informative video. One advantage for spinning setups that I have found, personally, is that they are superior on a crowded boat. I can perform more styles of casts with a spin setup than a bait-cast setup on a crowded boat. My normal bass setup is a 3000 (Penn) spinning reel, medium rod with fast action (Ugly Stik Elite), my northern setup is a 4000 ( also Penn) reel and MH rod (Ugly Stik Tiger Elite). I tend to go bigger with my spinners to accommodate any sized fish; which has worked out really well in the past. I am venturing into the realm of cat-fishing and after extensive research I purchased my first KastKing reel, the Rover 70. I know that it is a bit oversized, but given the circumstances of the pandemic I thought it better to buy a bigger reel JIC. My first impressions of the reel before having used it ( I am having trouble finding a rod given the pandemic, apparently everybody has now decided fishing is fun!!) are great. It is solid, well built, and simple. Hopefully, I can say that I am KastKing convert in the near future. Cheers!!
This video was EXACTLY what I was hoping for in the last 3-4 wasted hours! Thank you for an objective, informative and not selling-based overview from Germany!
Not sure if I brought the beer along to go fishing with him I'd be able to have a couple left for me. But that's ok cause that's how its suppose to be. Like Stone Cold Steve Austin says. Lol.
Spinning in light, medium fast and medium moderate and baitcasting with medium/heavy fast. I want to get a baitcaster in medium fast also but haven’t gotten one yet.
I'm just starting off learning fishing with very little background or knowledge. This video was the perfect explanation to get me towards making a decision on what build to start with
Thank you so kindly for watching and for the kind words Be sure to click Subscribe to make sure you never miss out on any of informative info from KastKing!
Took me all of 5 mins lol. I birds nested it one time and literally every time after that was perfect. It was on my bro’s, he is using a kastking speed demon reel
Excellent review. I was thinking about getting a baitcaster because it was on sale at Walmart on clearance but also spinning wheels were also. Thank you so much you just convince me I'm a spinning-wheel type of guy. Cuz I'm going 4 smaller lighter fish with lighter lures. You just saved me a lot of money. Again great review. Ray
Thanks so much for this awesome video!!! I fish with both spinning and baitcaster rod/reel combos!! Now I know the difference!! Very helpful!! Have a Happy and Healthy New Years!! 2023!!!
@@KastKing I am new to baitcasting. I had 30lb braided line put on my spin and baitcasting reels because I was losing some nice size largemouth bass on my 12lb fluorocarbon line on my spincasting rod. Do you think 30lb is too heavy for braided line? What do you recommend? I also heard about using a leader with braided line....what is a leader? I've never used it.
This is the best video I have seen comparing Spinning and bait casting setups. I had a bait caster back when I was 5 years old and never did like it. I kept getting back lash and birds nests. I fished with a cane pole until I got old enough to buy a spinning reel and rod. I am now 69 years old and just cannot get over why anyone would want a bait caster reel. They are a pain to get setup. I finally bought one and yep got back lash and birds nests which brought back a lot of bad memories. With this video I can see the advantages especially with the ability to reel in the lures faster. I believe the lures now days are made for the bait casters and need that speed. I am going to pull out my new bait caster and give it another try.
I recently bought a Baitcaster and learned it within an hour. I only used spinning rods before and was getting bored of being limited to certain baits, not having enough power in the rod, and accuracy of casts. My favorite thing is hearing the spool on a Baitcaster when casting.
@@canam2436 I suppose, but baitcasters usually have more torque to be as small as they are, and I just prefer baitcasters much more for big bait applications, the only time I will switch to a spinning rod (sometimes) is slow bottom presentations and small baits that are hard to throw on a baitcaster
Great video. You sold me! I bought about 10 years ago, casted once and got a birds nest bigger than my head! Took it back the next day. Im ready to give it another shot.
Just found your channel and the information here is priceless. I've just recently started fishing with a baitcaster again (after giving up years ago due to the obvious problems). Decided to try again and replace my spinning setup but thanks to the blanks being filled in here I think I'll keep them both 🙂. Now I know how to tune my baitcaster, thanks to another one of your videos. Thanks and tight lines from a trout and pike angler in a mostly wet and mostly grey Northern Ireland. Liked and subscribed 👍
Really good video. Explained every question I had and even put me at ease about switching from a spinning reel. Thanks for putting in the time to make this video.
Thank you for showing the differences between both rods and the reels. I just got a cadence primo real for my wife for her birthday. Maybe the next step would be getting her a casting rod when she gets comfortable with the spinning reel. I primarily fly fish but wouldn't mind getting into both either just to have a little diversity. I really do appreciate your channel and you going over the differences on what you can cast on each rod it's very helpful. Thank you tight lines God bless
Hi Captain, After watching your beginner bait casting video yesterday, I went to the water today. Boy oh boy did I have fun! Backlashes were minimal. I changed lures a couple times using the trilene knot with a whopper plopper 110. Didn’t catch anything but my practice got better. I’m down to 6.5 on the brakeS I didn’t adjust the centrifugal brake at all. When attempting to change tension, backlash came back. Thank you once again for great videos. I took my spinner set up and didn’t cast it 1 time.
Great video man! I've watched 15 videos on this to help make a decision if i want to get a bait caster and wasn't sure until ur video. You explained things great! Thank you. I'll task to you on my first birds nest lol.
By far one of the BEST videos explaining the differences between the two types of fishing set ups. My son wants a new bait caster for his graduation gift and your explanation for the pros/cons was excellent. Thank you very much!! PS - our family uses Kast King braided line and it is just fantastic stuff. I highly recommend trying it out.
thanks for the information. I am going to get a bait caster for the speed. had a big bass on a spinning set up and he went to the bottom of the lake, hung up on the under brush and broke the line. I think I would have better chance with more speed.
I’m a big fan of spinning reels because they’re not really expensive and they seem to last longer, I bought nice bait casters from Cabela’s or bass pro shop that seem to just give out or fail on me two years down the line.
Great video, very informative. At the end of the day it’s all about catching fish and having fun with family and friends, you can do that using a cane pole, just go fishing!
You just gain a new follower. I been using a spinning reel for years and here just recently wanted you learn how to use a baitcaster and the difference between the two. Great video
I am most impressed at the fact you can use a left and right handed reel, I don’t look at many bait asters because I can not reel from the right side and most of them are that way
My friend you really nailed the facts on this gear! I've fished many years on spinning gear and really can do everything I need to do with it,but as I reintroduced myself to baitcasting reels I can do many things much easier with them like you said.Im still working on reducing my birdnests and bad casts but it's definitely worth the effort. Thanks for the video.
What an amazing video! This was the best, most informative explanation of the types of reels I’ve seen yet. I don’t use casting yet, but now I really understand what I’m missing. I never knew about the faster retrieving ratios. Thank you so much for making this video. You have a new subscriber now.
I've used spinning gear only for 50 years but reently bought a lovely Browning baitcasting combo. I gotta say this was a super helpful and entertaining video. I'm now a subscriber. Kaptaan Mikey...you got good vibes bro.
I have have always used a baitcaster. However as of recent my girlfriend son has been asking me why he uses a spinning and I use a baitcast, since that what I give him. He recently asked me what the difference is and I honestly forgot why my dad put me on them. I was always told they were for bass but I've caught pike, pickerel, walleyes, rainbow trout, brown trout, bull trout, lake trout, and a handful of others. decided to show my girls son this and we both learned something! thanks for the video!
I very much appreciate this video. Well done. The one comment I would make is that I was always taught not to hook your hook directly on to the guide. It can chip it and that will cut your line.
Love the videos man so helpful! I never have a question after your videos bc you cover everything and I just got my first baitcaster magajaws kingkast and your videos helped me figure it out and I love it!
Just got my first couple of baitcaster setups last year (yep...KastKings!) and this is a great video to show the differences between the combos. How about one showing what rods to use with different bait setups....tight lines to all!
This is such a loaded question and he did a fantastic job covering the gamut between these two outfits. One thiught I have is when he speaks about buzzbaits and gear ratio with a baitcaster working much less harder than spinning. A spinning reel of say 5.1 3000 size should take of as much line, 9r more, given the larger diameter spool to its baitcaster equivalent (close to) a 6.1 -6.5. The spinning reel certainly couldn't keep up with a 8 or 10 ratio, but comparatively within reason, a spinning reel should be able to take up line just as fast.
Just now coming across you page and I have used spinning reels for bass fishing but mainly for catfishing but I've always wanted to learn how to get more experienced in learn how to bass fish with the lures and a baitcatser.
I've watched several videos comparing spinning and baitcasting setups, and this is by far the most informative. Thanks for the video.
Exactly what I was thinking. Been watching way to many videos that leave me indecisive and this actually provides tangible content.
I totally agree. Facts and explanations, not just opinions.
I agree! Many dimensional information. It really helped me figure out what to use when (just got my first baitcasters). And inspired me to master the technique!

Love how you break it all down for us Mikey!
Very true about bait casters! I wanted one so bad and end up Bird nested all the time. After hours of practice it end up being my favorite reel.
Im still getting used to mine
Good for you for staying the course! Anything good takes effort.
I’m getting use to it. Day#2
I'm loving it so far.
right thats my mind set now , i want baitcaster i have my heart set on a particular baitcaster i seen at walmart for $30 and i feel if i can take the time to learn the baitcaster then the baitcaster is gonna be my best friend and solve all my petty problems
I use one of each. Baitcaster for heavier tackle and cover. Ultralight spinning combo for finesse. These two are all I need for bank fishing.
Q is legit. Don't trust the media. I’m getting my first baitcaster tomorrow. Any recommendations?
Carlos Espinoza I just got my first Baitcaster, a Kastking Royale Legend, $39.00 & absolutely love this reel, a little complicated at first to figure out but only took me a few minutes & it’s a game changer, so much better for heavier baits, I use my spinner for lighter baits, get one , it’s well worth it

Caught a 15” largemouth bass in the wind. Wish I could upload a photo. Backlashes we’re horrible but I worked through them.
Great video man! I've watched 15 videos on this to help make a decision if i want to get a bait caster and wasn't sure until ur video. You explained things great! Thank you. I'll task to you on my first birds nest lol.
Thank you so much for your support
By far one of the BEST videos explaining the differences between the two types of fishing set ups. My son wants a new bait caster for his graduation gift and your explanation for the pros/cons was excellent. Thank you very much!!
PS - our family uses Kast King braided line and it is just fantastic stuff. I highly recommend trying it out.
Thank you so much for the kind words. It truly means a lot to us
Great explanation. Thank you so much. Fabulous help.
Thank you for the kind words
thanks for the information. I am going to get a bait caster for the speed. had a big bass on a spinning set up and he went
to the bottom of the lake, hung up on the under brush and broke the line.
Great video
That’s so great to hear! Thank you for your support
you are amazing, perfect demonstration. easy clear to the point
Glad it was helpful!
I am most impressed at the fact you can use a left and right handed reel, I don’t look at many bait asters because I can not reel from the right side and most of them are that way
Wow! This is the best, most comprehensive review I have seen. I am now subscribing!
Thank you!!!
Awesome presentation, I've watched many comparisons. Great job!!
Glad you liked it!
Awesome and very informative video 👏👏👏🙏🏽
Excellent video! Highly educational
Thank you for the kind words, James 🙏🏼
My friend you really nailed the facts on this gear! I've fished many years on spinning gear and really can do everything I need to do with it,but as I reintroduced myself to baitcasting reels I can do many things much easier with them like you said.Im still working on reducing my birdnests and bad casts but it's definitely worth the effort. Thanks for the video.
Great channel. Very informative and they way the information is delivered is very pleasant and 100% understandable. Keep it up buddy, I subscribed
Thank you for your kind words! We will continue to work on educational content.
Thanks for breaking this down
What an amazing video! This was the best, most informative explanation of the types of reels I’ve seen yet. I don’t use casting yet, but now I really understand what I’m missing. I never knew about the faster retrieving ratios. Thank you so much for making this video. You have a new subscriber now.
Thank you for the kind words
I've viewed this tutorial before. Very helpful.
Glad you are back again!
I've used spinning gear only for 50 years but reently bought a lovely Browning baitcasting combo. I gotta say this was a super helpful and entertaining video. I'm now a subscriber. Kaptaan Mikey...you got good vibes bro.
Love the detailed explanation for the differences in the reels.
Nice little rod for baitfish or small pond fishing
Crazy perfect video to cover the topic. Great job and thank you much sir!
Thank you so much for watching
great information sir. I've been using and open face most my life but think I'll pick up a bait cast and give it a try.
Please do and let us know which one you go with!
Thank you for the video, I sent this to a LOT of my friends who are just recently getting into learning how to fish.
Hi there. So happy this can help in some way
Great vid, thanks for the tips!!!
Great video! Thanks for detailed and unbiased pros and cons.
Thank you so much for sharing that with us.
Thank you. This video was so helpful. I made a comparison list as I watched you talk.
So glad it helped!🤗❤️
Hey man, making the switch from spinning to baitcasting, and this video was incredibly informative. Thank you!
So happy it helped
I very much appreciate this video. Well done. The one comment I would make is that I was always taught not to hook your hook directly on to the guide. It can chip it and that will cut your line.
Thank you so much for watching
Use mostly spinning and spincast reels - both with Kastking braid - best line I ever used.
Love this video very very informative, thank you for the info
Best comparison vid, KastKing!
Hi there. Thank you so much for watching
Trick question, spincast!
Just now coming across you page and I have used spinning reels for bass fishing but mainly for catfishing but I've always wanted to learn how to get more experienced in learn how to bass fish with the lures and a baitcatser.
