I picked up a fly rod for the first time yesterday in more than 30 years and forgot how much of an art form this can be considered. I'm going to really enjoy learning from your videos. Awesome teamwork, folks! I love how one of you explains and breaks things down in the simplest terms while the other demonstrates.
This is the best video on casting that I have seen. This trip I am having trouble with my casting. Loops too big, my line is touching the water behind me. Thank you for emphasizing the important aspects of casting. Starting with the roll cast is a great approach. I don't recall being told to let out 25 to 30 feet of line to start. I am excited to review more of your videos. Thank you so much.
I picked up fly fishing yesterday, with little to no knowledge, and I caught 10 fish in 30 min. It was absolutely ridiculous. I came here to hone my skills. Edit: This video was VERY informative! Taught me just about everything I was looking to know. Thanks!
Took my first steelhead trip 2 weeks back: almost a dozen hookups and 3 landed fish (7.6-13.2lb). 2019 is off to an amazing start already! I wish you all the best of luck, safe trips, and full creels!
This video was great! I actually just heard someone say the put your sleeve over the butt of the rod trick. I'm still a novice at this fly fishing game and I like most people (I hope) make a lot of little mistakes. I wasn't aware I was holding my rod improperly till now. It's all making more sense. Thanks again for this video! Now I just gotta get some TROUT. 🎣😎😉
I've watched a lot of videos to get started with fly fishing and this is definitely the best one I have come across. The part where there they give instruction on how to actually start the cast was great. I couldn't find another video to offer this tip. Well done!
I fly fished a lot when I was a kid and young adult. Now that I'm close to retirement I thought I'd look up a couple of videos as a refresher course. Thanks so much, especially for the roll cast! It's a little to hard to climb trees with bugs biting me now!
this video helped me so much with casting i have only been fly fishing 2 months i can now cast awesome people are making good comments about my casting i have now caught many fish since sorting mt casting out this is by far the best tutorial video on this plant thank you all so much ALIEN
One of the things I love most about this video is the way you two model wrist movement. I’ve heard instructors emphasize not to move the wrist whatsoever, and the occasional instructor say it’s just a matter of preference - but ya’ll are clear that it’s a predominantly stiff wrist with just a little bit of movement, and that unexaggerated clarity on your end means a lot to a beginner who’s still trying to figure out what the cast should feel like. Thanks for the wonderful video
Sorry for commenting again, but I loved that 2 handed cast. I have 4 great-grandchildren that I want to introduce to fly fishing.... ages 4-13. You guys are great inspiration.
Just bought my first fly rod and reel, nothing fancy or expensive, and I am excited to get out there and start learning and hopefully catching! Thank you so much for making this very helpful video🐟
I’m old, 70, I’m struggling, just watched your vid and you explain more in those few minutes especially about the wrist action, sticking the butt up your sleeve was a great tip, I’ll head back to the park tomorrow and try again, cheer’s from one happy kiwi.
Man I need to watch A River Runs Through It again. the last time I watched that movie I was probably 10 years old. I will be ordering my first fly setup soon probably gonna be the emergence.
I’m 60 years old just starting to learn how to fly fish took the flyrod to the river for the first time what a disaster why a discouraging day you’re definitely helping me out thank you
I’m 53, I learned on my kayak in the middle of the lake, it has taught me a lot, balance being one of the most important. Not having any trees around or brush is a huge bonus.
just got a fly rod the other day after trying it out a year ago i found it a lot of fun, thank you for the video, trying to learn the basics before i head out camping
Love fishing with my son down at the local streams and rivers with spinning rigs for trout here in north jersey . Just purchased a combo fly rode and reel and am so glad to learn basics from experience anglers . Thank You !!
So I just moved to Colorado, picked up fly fishing and have been nothing frustrated. These tips fixed everything!! Thank you SO much. Literally every problem I was having. Idk why other vid have the idea to explain, but don't show at the same time lol!
I just got my first fly kit in the mail today and the roll cast lesson is GOLD for me! I want to fly fish in ponds and damms, since there are no active rivers or creeks near me. thank you for posting this video!
I have been fishing kastking products since it came out in 2014 I own several of their reels and they are super product i was very nervous at first since they where so new but im so glad I took the chance
I love fly fishing. Your fly line color is the same as the water in the background and you can't see it on the video when he made the roll cast and also when you made the pickup and lay down. The information was great for beginners and those who only get to the water every once in a while. I live on the river in Cherokee NC. Telling them what not to do was great.
I just purchased a rod / reel setup from Orvis. I have fished with spin casting / bait casting my whole life. I assumed that casting from shore would really be the Achilles heal of fly fishing. Learning about the roll cast really makes me feel a whole lot better about fishing the local ponds and lakes. Thanks, great video.
Interesting. Thank you Clay and Sandi. I’ve always wanted to try fly fishing but never made up my mind to purchase a fly fishing setup. Now that I know that basic fundamentals, I look forward to fly fishing for the first time.
Nice video I fly fished a bit back when I was younger but it's been probably 15 years and I just picked up the emergence kit and I'm ready to go hook into a few fish
Thank you both showing how to do proper casting 👌👍. I now understand why I couldn't get line out as far, because I was forcing hard just like you said not to do. Plus I was going to far back. I appreciate the information you two supplied!
New to fly fishing and still practising my casting out on a field. I liked your tip about tucking the rod butt into the the top of your sleeve to stop excessive wrist movement. Will definitely try this to see if it works.
Great demonstration video! Helped me very much. I say to my self as i cast, "pick up, lay down" perfect cast every time. Roll cast is great since most streams in Pa have trees and shrubbery.
I am thankful for the review of the basics. This video presented a different approach by starting with the roll cast so you did not review the back cast. On this trip I am having problems with casting. I found this helpful. This video was not for Expert Casters.
Jim Truscott everyone seems to have their own technique and out of the ones I watched this one here worked best for me. I’m a novice. If you think you can do better get your own Fly Casting video out there and quit bad mouthing others.....just saying.
fly rod is def the most fun way to catch fish you feel most connected with your lure and rig, and you get to be active its like a light workout/warmup. Funnest way next to throwing inline spinners.
Thanks for the info. I am just getting started. The Information as very helpful. I am heading to Estes Park next month. I am going to give it shot. Can't wait to watch more from you two!
Excellent content, very well and simply expressed. After all the research I have done, this is the best intro to fly casting I have watched. Perfect timing as well, as I was ready to go out for first time :) Thank you
Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I’ve just started fly fishing and got myself in a daze on the lake this morning, fired this up and it really helped me getting reset and back fishing. :D
Sandi & Clay your guys are awsome I'm still learning the fly techneaque and have lots to learn... Some good info on holding the rod I didnt know thank u very much....
I was teaching my 27yo nephew to cast a flyrod. I was showing him why to lock his wrist, the quick start/stop, not going too far back or forward, and timing.
Just got a 9wt fly rod and reel for king salmon fishing in Alaska. I just got stationed out here. Im currently tying up and getting everything ready before I hit the rivers here! The run should start in a few weeks(:
Great demo! Some of my local streams here in Pa are in the woods and regular fly casting is not advised. Also if you marry a woman who loves to fish, you'll never hear "Your going fishing AGAIN"
The very last bit helped me see what I was doing wrong so much. Bought a fly rod 2 years ago and the furthest I've cast out is about 11 to 12 feet thats with a dry fly and never further and I've caught fish before but was never able to make the casts I wanted. Now I've noticed when throwing heavier lures the rod has a weird wiggle to it say with a streamer or popper and I throw even shorter distance with these next time I'm out I'll keep this video in mind.
Thank you so kindly for watching and for the kind words Be sure to click Subscribe to make sure you never miss out on any of informative info from KastKing!

This is, by far, the best lesson I’ve seen on fly casting ! Thank you so much Clay and Sandi !!
I'm going to pick up my first fly rod this weekend! I can't wait to practice! At home. On the lawn. With a plug. 👌👏👏👏🤓

Catching on a fly rod is soooo addictive
Who's excited to start Fly Fishing in 2021?!
🙋 me over here. My fly rod is still a virgin
I am definitely down to try it. I dont have a fly combo but I enjoy any kind of rod and reel fishing
Took my first steelhead trip 2 weeks back: almost a dozen hookups and 3 landed fish (7.6-13.2lb). 2019 is off to an amazing start already!

I went and tried to cast a fly yesterday for the first time. I tried following what I saw in this video and got on much better than I thought. Thanks.
Sorry for commenting again, but I loved that 2 handed cast. I have 4 great-grandchildren that I want to introduce to fly fishing.... ages 4-13. You guys are great inspiration.
Thank you. I see several things I need to work on. I will watch this video a few times to help me make corrections and enjoy fly fishing more.
Just bought my first fly rod and reel, nothing fancy or expensive, and I am excited to get out there and start learning and hopefully catching! Thank you so much for making this very helpful video🐟
Thank you so much for the support
You just got me really excited to fly fish again with that roll cast!
Fly fishing gives you such a advantage over other anglers
In a stream scenario I’ve caught all my trout down here in Ontario on flies

That was amazing. Thank you. I could really relate to the "hammer". thanks again.
Yo u forgot to explain why wearing your disco outfit is essential
Fly ingDutch Exactly. Those out fits could not be more inappropriate in the context o fly fishing. They both look and act like fools.
Clay and Sandi Fishing Who named you FlyCasting Champions ? Cast King promotions ?
I am thankful for the review of the basics. This video presented a different approach by starting with the roll cast so you did not review the back cast. On this trip I am having problems with casting. I found this helpful. This video was not for Expert Casters.
