Jordan, my 5yr old watched this video yesterday morning. He did not look away. He was completely engaged. I took him out to the pond this afternoon. He had it nailed in three casts. You guys are building foundations for mentors to build on. Keep up the great work. Your humility speaks volumes of encouragement.
Let me echo that comment. I'm just learning how to fish and these videos keep me lit up and operating. I've gone out to practice casting twice now and man, it's so, so fun just to practice the basics. I'm going to see about a charter with Nick very soon. I think that would be a good official beginning to my fishing career.
Same, my step mom moved down to South Louisiana and is learning to fish shes been calling and texting me to ask questions and I'm glad theres guys like Jordan making these videos so I can give her a visual of what I'm telling her.
@@Jordanwoodworking that’s fine or depending on what exactly your fishing if it needs to be on the bottom you’ll throw more weight on the line and wait for it to sink then close it
I have used baitcast reel all my life (I'm 72) and just decided I wanted to learn spinning. I thought you did an excellent job of teaching someone who is new to spinning reels how to cast. Much appreciated. Many times people make their instruction too complicated or over the beginner's head....to me your presentation was perfect. Thanks. Larry
I'm just the opposite I've used spinning reels or open face or as I've always called them open face flip top lol. And now I'm learning how to use a bait cast. So far I've got the birds nestling down. 😂 can't believe I just spent $825.00 on to bait cast rod and reel set ups for this kind of beat down. But I'm practicing.
Enjoyed watching, but you missed one of the key elements - when to release the line from the index finger during the cast. It is one of the hardest things for beginners to figure out the timing of that release. You see lots of lures plunking in the water at their feet, or dropping behind them, until they get that timing just right.
@@billrhondeau9372 I agree with what you said but I did not pick that up until the very end, I hope you are correct. I haven't fished in 40+ years and that small detail could make this very frustrating.
And a lot of extra line coming out after casting even the line is tensed to max. Why is this happening ?

I'm a beginner and have been looking online for tutorials and this channel is absolutely a gem. I'm coming to Yellowstone this Thursday to try my luck as a beginner angler at the lake and this particular video has been of great value. Thank you Jordan!
Great tips! I'm in my mid 40s and have just taken up the hobby. One tip I'd like to add that helped out me a lot is finger placement. I was holding my line too high, right up against the pole. When I lowered my finger a bit so it was about half way between the pole and the reel I had much better success. Thanks for all the great vids and info guy's!
Thanks for the tip! I'm 33 and completely new to fishing. I'm enjoying it but feels like everyone has been fishing for years, good to know I'm not the only one new to the hobby.
Jordan you are a great teacher. Watching you fish and your instructions is very illuminating. I haven’t fished for years. I’m now 81 years old and I’ve got to quit wasting time. Man you have given me new goals. Bless you.
Thanks bro - never fished before in my life and my 6 year old son one day was like let’s go fishing. Got a couple rods and watched your video and had a damn nice time!
This was the BEST demonstration I’ve come across as a beginner. I lost hope till I found this video. Thank you so much for your detail and instructions! -Lady Fisherman
Hi Jordan aged 71 I am just starting fishing here in he UK so I am looking for as much information as I can get. As consequence of that I have subscribed to a great number of channels and amongst those you are up there in the category of being one of the best. How you describe a Spinning Reel with regard to its parts and how to use it is just great. I've already realised that I need to aim at a target to be more precise when casting. Thanks for your advice Ted
I noticed you use a little bit heavier line (unless I am missing something). When we fish for rainbow trout in Southern Missouri, most of the anglers are using anything between 2-6 lb test. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on that as well. Your channel has absolutely inspired me to get out and fish more. I have taken several 3 hour trips to fish and camp because of what you have showed me. I am very appreciative for that.
I'm a true rookie, haven't been fishing long at all (1 month) and this was an EXCELLENT barney style video for me!! i've been casting semi-wrong this whole time! i think if i apply your technique i'll cast a lot better. GREAT video!!
Thank you for this. Haven't been fishing in 10 years and I'm feeling the itch, great to come across these videos to refresh myself. Can't wait to get back out there soon.
I love your videos! They have helped me so much! I did have to learn to flip my bail over manually after I cast my line. Initially, I would just start reeling in my line after I cast it, letting the bail flip over as I reeled in. But I ended up with a lot of knots in my line. I learned that I was supposed to flip it manually and now I don't get the knots. Yes, I'm a complete newbie.
Just bought my first fishing pole and plane to start fishing. This was a great video to get me started with how to cast! Also, I appreciated all the additional information on all the parts, and what they do. Keep up the great videos!
At last 🙌🏻 A beginners video that is actually for beginners!!!! Thank you so much for putting this together… everything explained clearly and easy to understand. I definitely check out your other videos! 🤩
The best demonstration of how to use the spinning rod👍. Kudos to your talent of explaining and demonstration. Easy to follow and understand step by step. You would make flying an aircraft look easy! Great job sir!
Been fishing for a long time and you just showed me the best way to cast especially with the 45deg angle and look at were im casting Thank you Have a great day
I love the 101 vids, even though I’ve been casting a spinning reel since I was a child it’s great to see the exact technique And to break down what I’ve done instinctively for years to increase my accuracy and ensure I’m casting the best I can. I’ve been wanting to get into fly fishing and would love to see some 101 fly fishing tutorials.
I’ve caught more fish than most people dream of catching but I can’t cast a spinning for shit. Your instructions are EXCELLENT! You’re a great teacher and sportsman!
Hi Jordan. I’m at 66 year old glam gal that has just discovered fishing. It’s great but challenging. Until I came across this video. Wow. I’m much more comfortable with this because of your great tutorials. Yes I liked and subscribed as well!! Thank you 💕
Thank you guys like for real. I watched so many of your videos never fished but I am about it! I finally went and took my son today for the first time. Words can’t express. He’s jacked and ready and after a day I know so more things I need lol love it and thank you

Dude, the best video on how to use our equipment. Every detail covered, you should be a teacher. Most comprehensive fishing video ever. I’m subbing, 👍😃
From newbie: about the index finger holding line before cast: (1) Do you hold the line loosely, or pin the line to the rod? (2) when during the cast do you release your finger that's holding the line?
@6:52 I noticed the knot that binds the leader to the main line. Isn’t best for that knot to not go through the rod guides? Minimize a wind knot? Thanks for the tutorial.
Excellent video! I’m a seasoned fisherwoman, but this is great for showing my clients that I take with me. As a professional Therapist this is very handy to have them see before going with me. 👍😎🎣🐟💦

Good explanation. Please advise me while we swing the line from four o clock position line pass through the index finger should I hold it in L shape continuously?
Just to clarify, you have to close the bail manually with your left hand after casting, not by turning the reel handle? I see at 9:25 you use the left hand to close the bail. I assume this is a standard method regardless of the brand of spinning reels?
Awesome channel guys! You teach better than many of the teachers or university professors out there. Simple, clear and well compacted info in all the videos I have watched in your channel. Well done! Keep on the same track
