You’re not alone Bruce. I’m 40 and just bought my rod yesterday.. Better late than never. I’m a firearms guy who loves taking waterfowl and hogs. So I don’t think I completely missed out😁
Hey man, just wanted to say that this was the only video I could find that really gave you the correct step-by-step instructions for learning this. My son and I couldn’t figure out how to cast our lines until we watched this video. Thanks for making this!
That's a great video. I'm 58 and have never fished but just moved to a very sweet spot where I can do it every day. It's intimidating to have such basic questions and this kind of video helps make sure that the sport is accessible to as many people as possible.
Started up 🎣 fishing. Haven't been since I was a kid fishing with my mom. Decided to buy a pole yesterday on her birthday. She would've been 85yrs. old. I think she's trying to tell me to find simple joys in nature again... who knows, but I will always think of her while I'm on the water. Thank you!
Read the title and was gonna skip this one for obvious reasons. Then I thought about it and called my son over and we watched it together so he could pick some correct technique. Thank you sir.
Awesome... been fighting old mono all afternoon.... loops, twists, unbelievable stress... wasn't any relaxing in my world. Your video was beautiful. I suppose, I need to invest in braided
This video contains important information. I learned from it and I have fished for many years. That part about Opening--The--Bail--Away--From--You was a revelation that many fishermen will benefit from. I never even heard of that before, and some of my casts lead to entanglements that I never quite understood. You one smart fella Chuck Pippin!
I don't usually comment on YT videos, but thanks for posting this. I figure a lot of pro's wouldn't feel like they're really doing something worthwhile introducing people to what could be seen as a ubiquitous sport, but I think you just filled in some of my blank spots in learning. I just started at 40, much like a few of your other viewers. I'm looking forward to getting better a tall of it.
Thanks for the tips, just bought my first ever fishing gear and going fishing now for the first time, will be uploading my results on my channel too, fish on amazing people.
Very nice Chuck, been up in the NW for 30 years with fly rods, great video, back in the south and your video is very helpful, just getting back into the spinner casting environment. Greatly appreciated, nice video. Thank you JAK
I started fishing very young but stopped about 12yrs ago. All I used was a basic closed reel rod. Thought I’d try something new like this spinner style. I found this video to be highly informative and very easy to follow.
Thanks for addressing the manual release of the bail after casting 4:45. Folks seem to not clarify that technique or why manually doing so is beneficial.
I loved fishing as a kid but used a closed face reel back in the day. I’m planning to pickup the hobby again this summer after 30 years and appreciate the pointers on how to cast a spinner reel.
I have what I call a 60/30 rod and open face reel, but it goes up 60 feet, out 30, unless I use a side arm cast. I try letting the line go at different times, but overhand casts don't work well. The tips in this video will help a lot. Thanks Chuck.
First video I have seen that clearly explained how to cast with spinning reel. In hindsight it is stupid but I never knew to let go of the line from my index finger! After many tangled balls of line I figured this out thru trial and mas errors.
sorry so late. it's really helpful the way you repeat the tips. That really shows the viewer (myself included) that YOU actually want them to understand the process. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for sharing tutorial for begginers, I wish i have a new fishing rod set Ultra light ,because i used the old fishing rod, thank you God bless.
After I cast my line, I have to hold onto the line with one hand and my pole with the other hand, because I'm blind. This way, I feel the bite. By the way, I have a Shimano 7ft spin-rod and reel combo, that I've just purchassed for the upcomming fishing season come Spring time! Thanks for the tip on what line to get! I will be I will be building up my tackle in the interim period.
I watched it because I wanted to see if I had any bad techniques. So far I do exactly as you showed. The one thing I have started in the last couple years when I do throw a spinner is the manual flipping of the bail. I never used to do that and then started to. I also use my left hand to feather and then palm the line as opposed to my right index finger. Thanks Chuck for all your videos. Had another tough weekend on the lake this weekend. Lake Russell, S.C. wind was blowing 20-30Kt and it made for a tough day of fishing. 9 and change won the tourney....i bagged 2 for a total weight of 2.46
Racerxv6 Valvoline thanks! I’m actually up at Hartwell in SC right now practicing for the BASS Open that starts on Wednesday. Super windy the past couple days.
Really good video... It's funny how no one really explains the finger holding the line part and when to release the line with your finger when casting. It's very difficult to see on the videos
Im 13 I have only used a button fishing reel, but the other day I went to olies and i decided i was going to get a spinner, so thank you soon im going to my cousins and he has some large bass 😁
Need to show how to switch the crank to the right side, like all fishing reels set up for right handed fisherman. Why would you give up the control and precision of using your dominant hand?
When I was a teenager, I had a spinning reel that had a little handle on it, so that when you wound the handle backwards, it would come to the top, and when you extended your index finger to pick up the line, you pulled that lever and it opened the bail. I have no idea what this feature is called, and I can't find a single spinning reel in any tackle store, fishing equipment store, or sporting goods store anywhere that has this function. What is that called, and where can I find a reel with it?
@@ChuckPippinBassFishing Awesome, that's exactly what it looked like (except mine was a Daiwa reel that was red black and blue.) Little bitty thing. Couldn't put more than 8 pound line on it, or it wouldn't cast. Fantastic! Thank you!
I can't believe that I waited until I'm over 40 to start fishing 😩, I've been missing out lol. I love fishing now

Hello I'm 65 just beginning to fish learning after years.

Growing up, I’ve always had a rod with an easy cast button on it. Your video helped me learn the other rod and catch a 13 lb catfish first day out 👍🏼

Need to show how to switch the crank to the right side, like all fishing reels set up for right handed fisherman. Why would you give up the control and precision of using your dominant hand?
I use my left hand to stop the line when I see it's gonna overshoot my target.
Loops/birdsnest.... loosen the drag all the way and pull the line off slowly until the loop comes out, this works usually.
GOOD TIPS YO
🙌🏼
Watching from philippines stay safe and godbless done subscribe master
Great instruction, thank you! One issue I have is the line still slips from my index finger unless I pinch it against the grip. Any suggestions?
Maybe try and tighten the drag

How do you fish for eels in the grass?
How do I stop casting and ending my cast with a lot of slack. I’ll manually flip the bale but it has too much slack to just start reeling

As long as you have a fish at the end of the stick your fishing no wrong way to do it remember that.
