  • Welcome to MojoPlays! Today, we’re looking at 10 times “Uncharted” got history wrong; does Nathan Drake really know what he’s talking about? We know these games aren’t meant to be taken too seriously, but they still have some glaring historical errors - which matters in a game about archaeology. Our list includes Francis Drake's Arabian Voyage from "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" (2011), the St. Dismas Cathedral from "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" (2016), Marco Polo's Journey from "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" (2009), and more! Did you catch these while you were playing? Let us know in the comments below.

    - Casting Tom Holland as Nathan Drake
    - Casting Mark Wahlberg as Sully and not Sam

Also it would have been nice if they stayed true to the games story wise insted of taking „the best parts“ and making a alternate thing. Nate and sully met when nate was like 15 years old, they could have made an original story that plays before drakes fortune and doesn’t contradict with the games.

Uncharted was never supposed to be historically accurate, the history in it was suppose to be a jumping point for Amy Hennig in creating the games. For Drake’s Fortune, Sir Francis Drake was a privateer who brought back treasure to the Queen and was knighted (also applied for Drake’s Deception). In Among Thieves, Shambhala is a place in Chinese culture that is the physical embodiment of enlightenment, and for A Thief’s End, the Gunsway Heist actually happened with Avery, and all those pirates are real. I don’t know as much about Lost Legacy but those Hindu gods are actual gods in Hinduism

I love Uncharted because it's fun, not because its accurate but i'm still happy you made this video! Somewhere i read (probably from Defoe so not that reliable of a source) that according to Misson's memo, he did have a pirate colony north Madagascar called Libertalia, and Tew joined in later, but the natives turned against them so they sailed out. That was when Misson's ship sunk in a storm. I like to think of the Uncharted version of the story as " what if Tew survived the heist with Avery and years after Misson's death they re-built Libertalia"

And besides that every played to history in it ,has never been one hundred percent either. You just have look at Assassin's Creed the North America pack .Since Canada and America were more part each other .Since the French from Quebec. ruled all into the south ,in Cajun country .So they dumb down some the facts .

The biggest time when Uncharted was confused up with historical facts was when it was stated that Uncharted was the series that revolutionised cinematic storytelling, voice acting and motion capture performances in gaming.
    It wasn’t.
Games such as (you guessed it) Metal Gear Solid had already made waves in the 90’s back on the PSX for its cinematic in-game cutscenes and Hollywood quality level voice acting. The game even had playable cinematic action set pieces too- Uncharted is definitely NOT the first game that did this well. Not even the first PlayStation game to achieve this either!
What’s more, games on the PS2 were already utilising motion capture performances before Uncharted was ever a thing.
And don’t get me started on how The Last of Us is often sited (by kids) as the first game with emotional storytelling and complex characters 🙄😴😴
The same series on the PS2
