    going to give it a try next week in cornwall. Totaly agree about not unhooking high. Have seen a lot of vids where they just drop them onto the rocks high up which i think is really bad.

    Great video Mike, people are right about the trawlers & mackerel, i remember fishing in Cornwall when i was on holiday in Tintagle, catching dozens of fish with my parents with hand lines, now i live in New Zealand where the fishing is fantastic,( now i also have a 30ft boat) been here since 1975, but have trips home often, still have family in Essex, will be back for 8 weeks end of May 2019 but wont be fishing which is sad, wife wants to sight see Europe, all the best keep vids comming

    great video mate.
    policy forget that fish don't usually ever experience out of water gravity and that any slight drop could damage them. I eat most I catch as much as poss but if returning I try to induce the least amount of stress on the animal as I can. respect the animals for what they provide.
    keep it up! :)

    spot on mike, watched this video and then put it to practice, used a small 10gram dexter wedge on a dropshot rod paired with a nomura kuro, took them down to falmouth and fished from the point far side of swan pool, what a great days fishing, mackerel after mackerel even a good size wrasse jigging about a foot off the rock in a deep pocket. thanks to you and your dad, its watching these your videos that made me get my gear back out back of garage, and now me and my son fish all the time, with him being 17 now its great to find something we can both do together

    Very insightful, mackerel fishing in cork has gotten worse and worse, those Icelandic trawlers are depleting the huge shoals.

      True, it's a shame, once upon a time the sea in the summer was almost overflowing with mackerel but now it's only the odd few.

      +Steves Outdoors NE that was 2014 for repairs and now roker is open always except for bad weather and shields is open edxept for bad weather and night but you can climb around still but like i say some great fishing off the top for mackerel, pollock and flatties in the summer months

    • @steveoutdoors5964
      @steveoutdoors5964 9 лет назад +1

      +Tyler Robb Roker pier was featured on Countryfile the other night..I see they are planning to open up the tunnel and do tours. Bet that's a great reason for the council to close it to the public. They won't want people who are paying for a tour to face chaos pissing all over the lighthouse. But like anything its the behaviour of the minority that causes problems for the rest.

      Yes you can just tie the jig straight to your mainline. However my mainline is braid, braid is not abrasion resistant on the rocks. So I have about a metre of fluorocarbon which is tied to the braid with either the albright knot or a swivel. Mike

    Good video and in your dads footsteps, informative and approaching aspects that create interest and communication between others and there’s nothing wrong with that, dipped into your magazine the other evening, very good and helpful, well done for the putting in the time, I personally would pay a quid as a contribution towards costs, I don’t know if you can arrange it, but I have and do click on articles etc and by choosing the arrow on the top right of screen am able to choose place into iBooks, I couldn’t do it with the magazine but think it would be a good aspect if you could.
    I don’t know if you have heard of Readly I subscribe to it and the only fishing magazine on that is Anglers ? I think you would get quite a following, don’t know why your Dad haven’t put a book together he has the knowledge.
    Anyway brilliant work with a nice genuine delivery. Cheers DG New Forest

    Dont you worry about being snagged on the rocky bottom? How do you know that when you counting you not going to hit bottom?

      Usually I use the countdown method, If I bump the bottom (got to be a little risky) then I know that it takes a certain amount of seconds for my jig to hit the bottom, next time I cast out, I won't let it sink for as long :) You almost have to hit bottom to begin with, just to gauge how deep it is. Unless you hit into a fish before you hit bottom, then you know to fish at that level. - Mike

      You will need to check the tides so you can go around the rock point without getting too wet; are you familiar with the area? I would recommend going there as I have caught loads of Pollock there!

    i shall add yet again ,, handling a fish with dry hands does very very little damage , if any at all , as i handle my koi carp weekly , they don t seem to mind it and over the years we have suffered from very very few fungal issues , .even in my OVER-CROWDED PONDS
