Love that seeing someone thinking outside the box. Mackerel are essentially mini tuna when caught on light gear you can see what happens! I caught them years ago on 4lb line and they got air bourbe it was awesome. I'm looking to get into some this year off the kayak with a fly rod can't wait. Great video thanks for sharing
Cheers mate, mackerel are such a brilliant sport fish on light tackle, its the only way I'll fish for them! I bet they'd be brilliant on the fly! Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Great video. Making me jealous though. Can't wait for the fuel prices to come down so I can get in a jigging session. 2 hr plus drive for me to Brixham area.
Great video, beautiful place and jigging is my 2nd favourite tactic, so much fun. The gurnards should start getting in on the action soon. Have you had much joy using the small surface lures like the two tiny versions of the Axia Glide on the lrf gear? Sure the schoolies that you had on the metals would equally hit a small surface lure, which would make for an incredible spectacle. Thanks again for an excellent video👏🏻👌🏻
Thanks mate, there's something special about jigging on an open beach I think. Can't wait for the gurnard to turn up! Funnily enough I've recently purchased one of the smallest Axia glide lures, its a little out of my comfort zone but I hope to put it to the test soon, quite excited to try! Thanks again, tight lines mate 👍🎣
Cheers mate, tbh I've barely fished with a solpara but I'd ssy its probably more refined than that Ceana 😂 the Ceana is alright for wanging out a metal and it does a job but I think its definitely at the budget end of the major craft range 👍
@@DevonLerfer We do some contract work for them so when finished we head down the beach and they have about 6 Orkney boats with 5hp engines so we take them out for a few hours. Great videos mate 👍
Thanks mate. Yeah totally agree, can't get enough of LRF mackerel! I do tend to let the lure sink to the bottom initially and then move up through the water column until I find the fish, if they're there!
That’s a cracking session you had buddy. …. What colour lures do you find work best ??? What a beautiful part of the world & Well done … you enjoy and all the best 👍🏽😀🎣
Thanks mate, it was good to find a few early mackerel and the schoolies are always good fun! In terms of colours, I like to mix things up but i do like a metal with a bit of blue in it 🎣 Tight lines mate 👍
@@DevonLerfer I messaged you last year as I was going to swanage for a couple of days and I had a couple of hours trying my hand at catching my first ever sea fish using my perch gear and caught my first ever bass thanx to you and your info !! The sea was rough and I didn’t know any areas so even though it was only one fish it was a start for me and was well chuffed … I will have to get some of them lures you use as they look like they cast well …. Anyways just want to say a big thank you and much appreciate the time and effort you have taken to reply back 👍🏽🎣😀
@@johnloxley8705 ah thats great to hear mate and you're welcome. I'm always happy to help when I can 🙂 yes I'd definitely recommend picking up a few jigs, they do cast well and you can cover a lot of water, a surprising number of species will take a metal too! 👍🎣

Thanks mate! Yeah its a nightmare isn't it?! Having to stay a bit closer to home for most of my sessions myself lately. Hope things get better soon 🤞
Nicely done mate. They were some decent sized fish. 👌🏻
Cheers mate, yeah they always seem to be a decent size from there! 👍
@@DevonLerfer being a minutes drive from there I should know this. But haven't fished there in well over a year.

I've had quite a few schoolies on the micro glide and the biggest was 44cm so quite respectable. It's epic fun on a really light rod.
Well done Rich, great video. The Bass are spikey little devils aren't they?
Thanks mate! Haha, they are indeed, had a couple of holes in my hand after that session 😂
were was you fishing know macs in the solent yet1 thanks

Awesome video rich, how's the Ceana compare to the solpara ?

Nice mate I fished at ladram today had a wrasse and a few makerel. You at budliegh in this video?

Great video. So much fun on light gear. Do you let the lure touch bottom first or is it best to try different depths before the retrieve

Great vid mate, how far out were you aiming to cast there?
Thanks mate, im terrible with judging distance tbh but I'd say 40 to 50 yards with the 10g metal

Man I miss Bud Vegas!
Me too, not fished it this year!

How did you know what sex the fish was please mackerel 🐟
My son would like to know thanks 😊
I didn't. I notice you asked this about a wrasse too?
