If you get a flat bed, you should still be able to put sides on it if you need a closed in bed. My dad made his own. The sides were made to be lifted on and off. Might be more useful for you. Merry Christmas! Maybe if you put winter chains on the tires that might afford the protection for the tires while in the patures. Put addition chain on the outside surface.
Yeah my dad had a flatbed and it had what they called stack bed walls on it that could be lifted up and out it didn't stop anybody from stealing my dad's tools out of the back of his flatbed one day. But I I am not sure if you have the same problem with theft there as we do it's in rule Riverside county Southern California. And that was my gosh back in the '80s so you know he keep that big lock box back there and you convert it so that you can keep all your tools in there but yeah then they're if you want to flatbed then go for it. And if you want to have those steak walls where you can I mean there wouldn't so they're not heavy or you can have them made out of you know metal as well and the of course the metal smaller but it's going to equal out and wait and so they're not heavy you can just pull them up you undo the latches and you pull them up and you do what you got to do and then you put them back down you watch them back up and you go on your way. And then that way if you ever want to haul something that needs the side walls well then you've got those stake walls there is so you can get whole trees or whole grain bags or he bills normal hay bales not one of those pig rolls that you guys have but you know what I mean. It gives you the option as long as you've got the steak bed walls you can remove them when you don't need them and you can put them in when you do need them and it does open up a world of different things that you can do with your truck so yeah I would go with the flatbed so long as you have the option of the stake bed walls

I know the owner of the famous Buffalo "Cody"! My nephew's used to feed him orreos and snicker bars. Petted him like a dog!! Cody, listened to the owner's wife when she gave him a command like a well disciplined dog!! The Bison can sense if you are afraid of them. I think that maybe you should buddy up "MORE" to Big Joe and Dunbar!!!!

I think a cake feeder would be a great addition to your truck. Keeping you and Brooks safe is a top priority. There is no Ponderosa or Cross Timbers without you so keeping you safe is a must. It won't take away from you being up close and personal with the Bison but it will be safer. I don't think they would ever intentionally hurt you but they are still wild animals. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure!

Poor Dunbar getting blamed for those darn tires! lol That flat bed might just be a good idea, it sounds like it would be safer and easier for you. Always more work, but that’s what makes your dreams work!
Dunbar! My absolute favorite, outside of Eleanor. He is so lively, curious, and onery.
Dusty maybe your welder friend can fabricate covers for the wheels so Dunbar can not get to them. You could set them over the wheels and bolt them through the rims to keep them from coming off. Maybe even a tie down strap could be used if the covers had a place on them to slide the tied down through and under the axle.
Some times tire shops and gas stations that sells tires have some semi good tires they sell for cheap. Also you could check at a auto salvage business aka junk yard to see if they have some good used tires.
You explain things so well, it's a pleasure to listen to you and see what your intentions are.
I love the way Dusty just says "SHEW" to these big, beautiful animals. I say that to my two cats, and they don't even listen.😗😗😗😗😗😗

Eleanor is one of the sweetest bison and I'm glad she had her baby. I believe she had the male and missed a year getting bred before this last babe was born. Not sure.

Hi Dusty, be careful leaving your doors open on the truck. Animals that size can fold a door back if spooked. The feeder on a flatbed is a good plan.

I saw the closest I’ll ever see. Custer State Park has a huge herd roaming. Female in the lead with her calf. It was an awesome sight to see and you could imagine those big herds.

It's great to see the OG bison! Dunbar is looking more like Big Joe everyday! I'm excited to hear that some of the cows will be moved over to the Ponderosa. Dunbar definitely loves destroying things! At least the wheels are still okay! Brooks loves to help her daddy! The deer have no fear of you or your truck. That's awesome! I'm guessing the future of the OG will be the place where some of the bison will be held until processed.

I think a flatbed would be much more useful for you. You can always have it made with removable side and rear rails. You can also have tools boxes built on the side even with the bed. Me and the wife love your channel, your family, and what you do.

have some RV wheel covers made out of steel, you know when it is cold when you see steam when you or the Bison breath. I also am animal loving and all your shows, maybe Elenor and her baby could become a family we watch that grows and lives together. I always am so thankful to watch you and the Herds . I think it’s a great safety idea for you & Brooks. And it just makes it easier for you to feed them.
Cube dispensers are only $3000 or so for the ATV style and much safer than how you currently are dispensing cubes.

Flatbed n include bale arms too. Pur one bale on bed n carry another n rolls out bale. Very sweet. Some cake feeders also have different sounds to call/train the herd.

I never realized that bison had such personalities.
If you want a feeder in the flat bed Dusty. I would make it a built into the bed behind the wheel with a lid above. It will feed at the back either from the side or the back of your truck. Then it can be taken off when you don't need it with sliders and pinned to stop it falling off. If you can't get the bed made like that, your friend might help you to make it the way I described. I would have it big enough to put more than 1 bag of cubes to give you more options.
