A lot of times it's easier to snap the top of the shock off below the threads. I have not replaced the rear shocks on one of these 95-02 GM yet but for the front shocks just put a socket wrench on the top bolt and move the wrench back and forth in and out until the shock rod snaps off, the metal is not as strong as you would think it is. There is an A/C line blocking the top nut on the front passenger side you can just bend the line slightly to make room to get the socket on the shock bolt. This method works on many vehicles, I am just not sure if there is enough room on the rear of the 95-02 GM for this trick to work, I will find out soon.
Great idea with slicing the cover to put on the vice grips! But please put your jack stand under the frame and not on your rocker panel my man! Those hollow panels can collapse at any time while your under there working! Especially if you’re up north in the rust belt
My whole car has starting shaking around 30 mph and above. I replaced air springs, with regular springs ad not the shock. It's probaly been since Feb. No one can figure out. New tires, new pivot bar . lined it up. Help me out brother
Have you figured this out yet? It may be the driveshaft out of balance ! Mine has the same issue but it’s not the driveshaft. Just seeing if somebody figured out your issue
Thank you your video saved my husband from drilling a hole in my trunk.
I ain't saying anything .
Just what I needed..Great video
Thanks for the video, cutting the plastic really helped. Thanks!

Did you ever find out if it worked? If so, did it work?
When you put the new shock in how do you keep the piston from spinning when tightening the top nut?
Good question. I'm facing this dilemma on my Lincoln Town Car and I haven't even gotten the shocks off yet.
Place the vise grips at the top of the shock above your nut. Tricky but it worked for me.
I had the issue with my front shocks I got so irritated I just cut it off with the sawz all 😂😂😂
great video man! Thank you
Anybody else feel like if he took the tire off it would h ave been twice as easy

The only problem I have with your video is that you did not take off the tire. Some of the video is in the dark.
I switched my air bags to shocks now it will not start while it’s on the ground only on a jack. What do you think that is ?

I had that issue with a bad bearing on a 2005 impala
When you replaced air spring to regular springs would the car start while it was off the jack ?
The passenger side is horrible because of gas lines .
Thank you
