Is it just me or am I no longer excited to get android version upgrades? Every year they remove something that made android, android. The Apple-ification of android is really bugging me. There are very little good alternatives in the NA market :(
While I get your sentiment... Android still has support for headphone jacks and SD cards. In fact, there are new devices coming out with those features present. It's just up to the manufacturer of the hardware, not Android, to decide if it is present or not.

Still use a Pixel 6 Pro as my work phone. Just looked and it hadn't been pushed to Android 15 yet but I am forcing the update. I still have a 6A that I was using for my personal phone, though I can't seem to go back to it after using the OnePlus 12R. Even with the smaller form factor I love the 12R works better.
I recently upgraded to 9pro from my pixel 6. I spent a few days having two phones running in parallel and to my surprise, the Pixel 6 worked as smoothly as the pixel 9 pro. What I noticed was higher speed of WiFi and slightly better camera and ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Both run on android 15, both have great displays. I really like gemini advanced but could live without it. After these few days of testing i returned my pixel 9pro (under 14 days cooling period) because the network it was on was horrible ( ID mobile UK). With Android 15 Pixel 6 still holds well and its still in its PRIME :)
lol they can offer 6 + years of updates because we are sheep. (including myself). 90% of us buy whatever is the newest number because of FOMO. I have had the pixel 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. same on the iphone side. I have had every single iphone ever released. I also had the S20, 21, 22, and 23 (and a few Notes back in the day) before quitting Samsung devices. They can also release "16" early when it basically one or two .1 updates put together. When you just add a couple features with no meaningful UI changes, they can call it 16 and call it early and we will bite just like we always do.
My prediction is that the Pixel 6 will get stuck in the developer betas and won’t get Android 16. It’s on par with what Google has done in the past. Also, I’m tired of hearing from everyone I know how terrible their pixels are. At this point I think Google’s hardware is just pure lottery. Nobody I know has lasted more than one generation of pixels without having to hurry and move to something else because the instability of these phones made the whole experience completely unbearable. And I don’t blame them, I’ve hated all the pixels I’ve had, and I won’t give Google a second chance.
What people are missing here is that even with less feature updates but more technical upgrades, with android 15 adding pKVM (so you can run virtual machines natively on android) and other hidden features
no desktop mode on pre 8 series is a big miss, shame on google because the hardware is actually capable, they just decided to not bother implementing the firmware side
I am a Pixel 6 user. Despite its flaws( the processor being the only one I still cannot comprehend), I genuinely enjoy using this phone. The design IMO is the best, especially since the Pixel 7 went all metallic with the camera bar and the Pixel 9 unfortunately disconnecting it from the rails! I just wished this being a Tensor powered pixel this would have atleast 5 years of updates when i heard it would get only 3 . So getting the news of Android 16 coming, is genuinely an amazing news !!
Went from a pixel 3aXL to a pixel 6 Pro. Only thing that has bothered me about both are the screen icon ghosting. Probably wait until the 10 comes out before getting another one. Unless I jump to a OnePlus next year.
Very based of Google to give the P6/P6P A16, give it A17 too (5 years of OS & 5 years of security) and I'll be extremely happy, I use the 6 as my spare phone for work and it's still really good imo
How fast can a phone get before you can’t notice it? I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro and thing is noticeably smoother than previous versions… but I can tell based on past history that it is not the hardware failing but them updating the software to remove support for this hardware. That’s why people, myself included, used to jailbreak/root.
The p6p was my attempt to move away from Samsung. I quickly sold it when the s22u was announced and I'm still using that now. Are you saying the p9p should actually be considered as I am looking to change soon.
personally i'd wait if your s22u is still working fine. the pixel 11 sound SO promising according to some leaks; and the pixel 10 could see noticiable improvements in battery and connectivity
I bought a Pixel 6 at launch and recently upgraded to a 9 Pro, due to the 6 experiencing location detection issues after updating to Android 15. I'm still happy that Google are planning to give the 6 series phones Android 16
Ok, this actually makes me think about the Xperia 1 VI I've on order. It offers only 3 upgrades, and as it started on A14 - it'll only go up until A17. If A16 comes earlier than late next year - that could mean 3 years without OS upgrade rather than the 1-1.5 I hoped out for. 😕
I was a huge smartphone enthousiast. Android software update was often a massive change that it felt like a new phone. It's not anymore exciting but way worse, it is boring.
I got my Pixel 6 Pro about a month before the Pixel 7 launch cuz my old 3 XL died and I needed a new phone. It had Android 12 but by then all the bugs were worked out and it has been smooth sailing ever since. The only real issues I have with the device are the Tensor G1 turning into a furnace and I'm running out of storage space now.
Ive literally had zero issues with the fingerprint reader on my Pixel 6 Pro. I think this is mainly a complaint of reviewers who don't use the phone except for reviews.
They need to just focus on refinement, design, and social media camera quality. They social media camera quality is a big reason preventing people from switching to android.
Google Pixel Phone owner: I have android 16 with the latest changes and improved performance. Non-Google Phone with Android: I'm still waiting for Android 15!
huh? No? the Dev preview for the next version of android always come out right after the official release of the latest version of android. It's been that way for forever. And Android 15 is "finished"
Yep, I remember after getting my P6 secondhand on Android 12, the software was a buggy hell. It’s fine a long way, and I can actually say it works at least several orders of magnitude better now thanks to the software updates and bug fixes
I've been on the pixel 6 since launch. I don't recall it being buggy. Maybe I got it after it was out a couple months or something and it was fixed by then but my pixel 6, as well as my pixel 5, 3a, 2, 1 and Nexus 5 have all been great software experiences. This is the first time I've kept a smartphone more than 2 years. I just swapped the battery and bought a new case to make it feel a little fresher but i don't think ill be upgrading to the 9 (though the black friday deals on the 9 are quite tempting). I think ill stick with the 6 until software support runs out.
I would honestly say that Android is feature complete at this point. It has all the major things someone using a smart device wants. Google should rather work on making Android compatible and optimised with the wide range of hardware is serves, while even microsoft couldn’t do it with Windows, but I believe the UNIX roots of Android and Google’s expertise in their AI stuff they can honestly focus on bringing this to android.
If you don't brake it, any flagship from 2019 is still 100% usuable. Only cameras have evolved a bit, but still the quality is above decent. 10 years updates should be normalised.
I don't want to use newer software since it slows down my phone I was using Android 11 (One UI3) and upgraded from Android 13(One UI5) and it make it worse some apps take longer to load be warned.
I guess you mean that android "15" is still not available, If that is true then you're not using a pixel. Other manufacturer's are dragging their feet. There is really no excuse for Samsung or any other phone manufacturer to not release a OS update when it is released by Google as they have plenty of time before release date to get it ready. Buy a pixel and you won't have that problem.
@@NatureBoy12100 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. One ui 7 is basically a different OS to android 15 and samsung are introducing features specifically for it to make it very distinct from one ui 6. On stock android there is virtually no difference between 14 and 15
Google really pissed me off by only offering 3 years of updates for the pixel 4a -- not even security updates after that 3 year cut off. They lost me as a customer for at least a few years more.
most of them didnt last even this long, the 4a and 4a 5g were terrible phones. i had gotten one on launch day and it lasted a month before bricking itself, then the replacement one had a green flicker on the screen out of the box. i gave it to my nephew as a wifi only tablet and still owe verizon 600 dollars for it. i did love my pixel 7 pro before i broke it though :( bought that one used though. they have gotten better since the 5 and 6. the 6 was a huge leap.
I agree they should have supported the pixel 4a longer, with that being said you knew when you bought the phone it was only 3 years! I want more then anything for google to support my pixel 6 & 7pro the full 7 & 7 like the news ones are getting. @@katinasoutherland7693 My understanding, which was wrong it seems, was it was 2 or 3 major Android version updates. That's what all the bloggers were saying was being promised. It seems hard to believe though that they would stop supporting major security updates also. A hard stop too. Windows 10 was released in 2015, and it STILL is getting updates. Major updates are one thing, but security updates??? that's a no brainer, no? Google knows users will continue to use their phones for years beyond that date also, so they know they are creating a serious security situation. Given how Google knew they were making a mistake, and changed to 7 years or whatever, they still refused to push updates to older phones. android 10 was good, newer versions started to get downgraded in terms of customization and the available settings pool, what a joke
Not Android 16. If they set that Android free it will be the End of all of US !!!
Negative
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Haaaa!
Get doooown!
*BOOOOOOM*
Hey, Trunks! How 'bout a little more *warning* the next time you do that?
I wish they would stop ios and android rollouts without major updates of complete changes.
I just realized that im watching this video in pixel 6. Lol. Still working good
What people are missing here is that even with less feature updates but more technical upgrades, with android 15 adding pKVM (so you can run virtual machines natively on android) and other hidden features
no desktop mode on pre 8 series is a big miss, shame on google because the hardware is actually capable, they just decided to not bother implementing the firmware side
@KnightRiderOfVoid with the new promise of extended feature updates maybe the 7 series is getting that feature
Google pixel
Not a good phone to buy
And youtubers don't help at all with all the glazing they do
@google thank you for extended support. I hope pixel 7 series also gets extended support
What was the phone you held in the first few seconds?
I'm still on 10.
Offtopic but which golf game is it @2:53 ?
Long term support is necessary for a company who actually builds android. Lol
Skip filer 5:17
Very based of Google to give the P6/P6P A16, give it A17 too (5 years of OS & 5 years of security) and I'll be extremely happy, I use the 6 as my spare phone for work and it's still really good imo
Not yet on Android 15, but this android 16 is just too early. Is this Google's way to let us buy our phones more frequently?
every time I see your videos, I always appreciate my older devices. thanks man
7:26 I am a Galaxy Z Fold 6 user, so I'm still waiting for Android 15
How fast can a phone get before you can’t notice it? I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro and thing is noticeably smoother than previous versions… but I can tell based on past history that it is not the hardware failing but them updating the software to remove support for this hardware. That’s why people, myself included, used to jailbreak/root.
The p6p was my attempt to move away from Samsung. I quickly sold it when the s22u was announced and I'm still using that now.
Are you saying the p9p should actually be considered as I am looking to change soon.
Nah, it's kinda the same phone.
personally i'd wait if your s22u is still working fine. the pixel 11 sound SO promising according to some leaks; and the pixel 10 could see noticiable improvements in battery and connectivity
Glad to be a pixel user
whats that gaem at 14seconds
I bought a Pixel 6 at launch and recently upgraded to a 9 Pro, due to the 6 experiencing location detection issues after updating to Android 15. I'm still happy that Google are planning to give the 6 series phones Android 16
Love my pixel 4a
Does everything I need and feels great one handed but no security updates gives me no choice
Any ideas ?
Ok, this actually makes me think about the Xperia 1 VI I've on order. It offers only 3 upgrades, and as it started on A14 - it'll only go up until A17. If A16 comes earlier than late next year - that could mean 3 years without OS upgrade rather than the 1-1.5 I hoped out for. 😕
I wonder if this also has to do with DOJ case
If google 6 have android 16, what about pixel 7 get last os android 17
Me still in android 13. Realme 9i 😂😂
I was a huge smartphone enthousiast. Android software update was often a massive change that it felt like a new phone. It's not anymore exciting but way worse, it is boring.
my s24 ultra not even getting android 15 yet
Dont they roll out in december?
@@dirkxen9369 i think its January? since thats when the s25 comes out
I got my Pixel 6 Pro about a month before the Pixel 7 launch cuz my old 3 XL died and I needed a new phone. It had Android 12 but by then all the bugs were worked out and it has been smooth sailing ever since. The only real issues I have with the device are the Tensor G1 turning into a furnace and I'm running out of storage space now.
Current Pixel 6 Pro User here :-)
Man , All i want from Pixel is to have a 1inch sensor and keep it for years and years to come..
Ive literally had zero issues with the fingerprint reader on my Pixel 6 Pro. I think this is mainly a complaint of reviewers who don't use the phone except for reviews.
Can they get rid of material you already
Material You was one of the best things Google has done with Android.
Quit your bitching.
I'm also a curved side enjoyer. Thats why im holding on to my s23 ultra
Still rocking my s21 pro, haven't seen anything running slow or not available while still getting updates for a short bit longer.
They need to just focus on refinement, design, and social media camera quality. They social media camera quality is a big reason preventing people from switching to android.
Android 12 was possible the worst of ANY Operating System I have ever used and yes I used Windows NT.
Had my P6P since launch and had no major bugs. None. Probably the best phone I've ever had and my previous phone was the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Why would anyone wanna help this phone's OS?
Google Pixel Phone owner: I have android 16 with the latest changes and improved performance.
Non-Google Phone with Android: I'm still waiting for Android 15!
And this is why I'm forever hesitant on returning to Android fully, 15 isn't finished and we're already moving to 16 for a few features.
huh? No? the Dev preview for the next version of android always come out right after the official release of the latest version of android. It's been that way for forever. And Android 15 is "finished"
Glad watching this on Pixel 6. My over 2 years old device has held up quite well.
Watching on my pixel 6❤...this phone is just wow...am on android 15 too😍😁
Yep, I remember after getting my P6 secondhand on Android 12, the software was a buggy hell. It’s fine a long way, and I can actually say it works at least several orders of magnitude better now thanks to the software updates and bug fixes
still not even close to how it should but definitely better!
I hope pixel 7 pro gets android 17
I've been on the pixel 6 since launch. I don't recall it being buggy. Maybe I got it after it was out a couple months or something and it was fixed by then but my pixel 6, as well as my pixel 5, 3a, 2, 1 and Nexus 5 have all been great software experiences.
This is the first time I've kept a smartphone more than 2 years. I just swapped the battery and bought a new case to make it feel a little fresher but i don't think ill be upgrading to the 9 (though the black friday deals on the 9 are quite tempting). I think ill stick with the 6 until software support runs out.
Bruh what i still did not receive android 14 in my moto
If we get lunix app support for android 16 I would love to get a low end android 16 device
I enjoyed my Pixel 6 Pro, but I upgraded to the regular Pixel 8 to get a bit of the Pixel 5 feel back.
Why does the title sound like a slop Pyrocynical would upload lmao
Google should work on fcam by providing portrait in telephoto and also by making edge detection better
I don't want to use newer software since it slows down my phone I was using Android 11 (One UI3) and upgraded from Android 13(One UI5) and it make it worse some apps take longer to load be warned.
I have headache my question when will be upgraded in our smartphones 👍😁
The android is still not available and man talking about android 16 like is something serious,
I guess you mean that android "15" is still not available, If that is true then you're not using a pixel.
Yet if they don't im not gonna NOT buy the next pixel I want cus of something i had knowledge of beforehand. That's just silly and unreasonable.
Wah wah. Nothing burger.
The Pixel 4a 5G was getting critical updates months after the Pixel 4a lost support -- so would it really kill Google to do them both? Just feels rather anti-user.
Not sure Google has actually felt pro-user in many years at this point. /rant over
