I noticed on your thumbnail that you made a few tweaks to the floor plane and car to fit the background. I was wondering if you could briefly explain what you did because I'm having trouble with my car looking out of place in my scene
Mike Hermes I'm using the same hdri image you are using but am using a different car model that I modeled myself. I used the same exact material on my car but my car still seems out of place. For example, the image would seem kind of blurry while my car would look too realistic making it look like I just copied and paste a image on a picture. Sorry if I'm confusing.
Hello Mike, As always, you present very cool stuff. I am actually going through a project, its a commercial for Engine oil. Where I will have to animate the car with some of its best render setting. I am having problem with roads and the backgrounds. Like I am not sure how do I set the images in the background, that should look as if the whole scene was shot in real environment. any suggestion or help?
Adding a depth of field blur always helps ( see my video on that ) In addition make sure your back image is not reflecting or cating and or receiving shadows. If you can use an HDRI image ( see my videos on that )
hey amazing tutorial, thank you! here is my question, what you have done is usable only inside of the maya right? so it is just for rendering and having a few images, we cannot use these textures in a game engine, right? if not, how? is there any way to export the textures you've created to outside of the maya and use?
I stumbled upon this 7 months later, so you may have already figured it out, but game engines won't have any idea how to use the shader graph you've made. The materials made in Maya will only work with the renderer.
+Mike Hermes Thanks for answering Mike. I mean how to take the texture map with color and shades, basicaly the texture map to put it in a game, directly, without using photoshop. Can I do it? How can i do, please i really need it so much! ty your tuts are amazing!
+Decio Gomes OK I understand. After the model is complete and fully textured you need to BAKE all the textures ( bump maps, speculars maps etc etc ) into one "Bake". So now you model has one single file containing everything. Then you load your model and you file into the game engine
+Mike Hermes Hey Mike Hermes, I finaly found something specifically about this question but it is in Zbrush. It's matcap texture, zbrush exports the matcap texture with material shine and shadows, could i do the same in maya? Thank you!
Excuse me, how do you make a grouping on each parts? like glass, etc?? I tried grouping them (Ctrl + G) and it said "Not enough objects or values", any ideas? Thanks :)
+Rob You need to download it and install it ( www.autodesk.com ) and then load it. Here are instructions mhtutorialsruclips.net/user/201507/04/q-i-cant-find-mental-ray-in-autodesk-maya/
Hmm yeah that weird I cant think why they would do that. Possibly for the purposes of a car model it might make it look kinda better for rendering, the way its lit kind of thing.
+Ricard Jordan Maso I second that motion sir. I'm lost on a car tutorial from one of those tutorials web site. Thanks and awesome job on all your tutorials..
i think maya is easier to use than blender. i use both blender and maya but i find maya way more understandable. blender is making me confused many times
i am new to maya , and indeed i have learned a lot so far --thnx Mike
+karunesh kaimal Great
Very good tutorial. More than realistic rendering! Thank you so much Mr. Mike.
Thank you
hola, me gustaria agradecerte por todo lo que he aprendido con vos en estos 2 meses. gracias. thank u
Thank you
oh! mike you rock in everything modeling, dynamics and now in texturing !!
I prefer a video tutorial for explosion effects with dynamics..
+Gaxx Karthick It's on my list
Thanks
Wow, looks fantastic! But tires look too gray for me.
Well that's a render view. Do you have any idea of how it is going to look in a game?
+Alexander Kropyvka You can adjust the color of the tires to make them completely black, As for a game, it would need some work first

Tha background is an HDRI image

Hey how can You add mental ray materials in maya? Plzz guide me

would love to see that commercial since im assuming its done by now :p
how did you import the model with lwo format into maya? Thanks!
hey amazing tutorial, thank you! here is my question, what you have done is usable only inside of the maya right? so it is just for rendering and having a few images, we cannot use these textures in a game engine, right? if not, how? is there any way to export the textures you've created to outside of the maya and use?

video downloaded..will watch later then ill ask u some question regarding texturing..please reply
i'm sorry but i import obj or fbx but when open my outliner i don't have all polysurface ! why??
Thanks very much very useful video
Hello, thank you for your videos. How to export shined texture maps after this amazing job? TY
+Decio Gomes Export the textures ? I assume you mean together with the model ? You should bake the textures
+Mike Hermes Thanks for answering Mike. I mean how to take the texture map with color and shades, basicaly the texture map to put it in a game, directly, without using photoshop. Can I do it? How can i do, please i really need it so much! ty your tuts are amazing!

why do you use the different types of color bases such as lambert and blinn
+NOR3MSTI Each shader has different characteristics..Blinn is shiny, Lambert is not etc
Excuse me, how do you make a grouping on each parts? like glass, etc??
I tried grouping them (Ctrl + G) and it said "Not enough objects or values", any ideas?
Thanks :)
+Jody Hong It sounds like the meshed you have selected were already combined. You need 2 or more objects to group
Don't really understand, you mean select more faces? o.O
Because last time I'm using a Faces to group them and its failed.. o.O
+Jody Hong If you want to group faces you can't use Ctrl+G you will have to select and detach them so you can quickly select them is needed
Ah I see, thanks! :D
Is that how you do with all the parts?
Is it ok I'm grouping them by detaching it, Or do you have any better ideas? :)
Can you help me? i imported the fbx and obj from the downloaded folder, but the parts cant be seperated. Please give me advices
Can't be separated, why not ?
I dont know. In the Outliner, it is shown as 1 part, named "Chevrolet_Camaro_2009:Mesh"
Did you select it in Object mode and click Mesh - Separate ?
Oh i get it. Sorry im new to maya. Thank you so much
these tri faced models are only used for games wright??
+R Srikanth My rule of thumb is : If it will move ( deform ) or be sculpted always use quads. If not, tris's are ok ( even in games )
thanks mike u cleared my doubt
Just installed maya 2016! Yey :)
How to switch background color from standart grey, to blue-grey like in this video?
+Максим Борович Alt+B
+Mike Hermes
Okay, now this looks much comfortable! Thanks ^^
No problem
Im using Maya 2015 where can i find the "mia" texture file?
+Rob You need to download it and install it ( www.autodesk.com ) and then load it. Here are instructions mhtutorialsruclips.net/user/201507/04/q-i-cant-find-mental-ray-in-autodesk-maya/
+Mike Hermes That's brilliant!
+Warren Turner Thank you
Very nice video demonstrating using the different materials effectively. Don't know what he did to get the geometry though, it's filthy.
+Nathan NGR Correct
So do you mean he made a quad mesh then triangulated it?
Hmm yeah that weird I cant think why they would do that. Possibly for the purposes of a car model it might make it look kinda better for rendering, the way its lit kind of thing.
+CSConnorthegreat Some programs require triangulated meshes to import them
+Nathan NGR Yep
Could you make a tutorial about how to model this camaro or another car, please?
Thanks and great job with this car!
+Ricard Jordan Maso I second that motion sir. I'm lost on a car tutorial from one of those tutorials web site. Thanks and awesome job on all your tutorials..
+Who Blah I will think about it guys. Thing is, I am not into spline modeling that much
Just curious by why isn't the car in polys? I thought all 3d models were meant to be in polygons?
A Polygon is a face with more than 2 sides so Tris are also polys. Depending on the platform tris and polys are used
its very Useful Sir ..Thanks a lot for Helping Us
i could not find mia material in maya software
What Maya version ?
@@MHTutorials3D i got the solution thank you for responding!🙌
how to use substance painter to texture it .... are we have to uv this guys first ..?
Oh yes, for sure
hay can you make one more video done in maya 2018 using Arnond. plz
More to come
Please show.. The car model process...
Very interesting, thank you. It is a pity that there is not quite texturing. But thanks anyway.
+Владимир Заболотный Thanks, I am aware that they are shaders, not textures. But calling the video "shading a car" is a bit confusing to some people
+Mike Hermes, you're right
How did you import the camaro there?
+Zulkifli Ampatuan Save the Camaro as an OBJ or FBX file . Then create a new scene and then go to File - Import
+Mike Hermes ok done thanks, but I can't do all things like what you did, I'm using Mac T_T I'm tangled
If you exchange any Ctrl commands by CMD commands you should be good
+Mike Hermes What's CMD?
+Zulkifli Ampatuan You working on a Mac system right ? So you don't have a ctrl key on your keyboard
Thank you so much, very useful :D!
Thanks
Can you do rigging?
Yes
Plz make a rigging tutorial for car
I did ( check the Jeep series )
How do I achieve HDRI mental ray in maya 2017?
Under the scene tab in render settings
unable to localize it.
really nice !
+KokahZ777 Thanks
where can i download that hdri lighting pack
www.hdrlabs.com
How do I get the car to appear in Maya.I'm new.
Download it as a free model
I’ve tried to watch this 3 times, and fall asleep every time. Also, it looks nothing like the thumbnail.
So after falling asleep 2 times, you watched it again ? Pretty relaxing video then....
where u get the textures boi
boi ?
The tires are the only issue
+Piro Efekta You can tweak the color to pull the slider to fully black if you like
and now there is not mental ray on my maya 2017 ... so i can do this type texturing
True but this video was not made for Maya 2017
i think maya is easier to use than blender. i use both blender and maya but i find maya way more understandable. blender is making me confused many times
Nutthaphon Jumpasin Really? When it comes to UV mapping, which do you think is harder? For me, I find Blender a lot easier than Maya.
awesome
Applying shaders is not texturing. You put no textures on this.
+AC Animations (AC3D) Fine, you win
Thanx , that was helpful
+حسنين العذاري You are very welcomr
Thank You
+maya king You are very welcome
WOW.........
Next how to animate it??
+Ascend Visuals - Editing Team Here's an example of the rigging of a vehicle
booooo I know how to use defaults already
Ok, then don't watch the video
there is nothing to match mia material or car material in maya 2016 can u help sir....where can i get these material
Check your plugin manager for mayatomr.mll to see if mental Ray is loaded
thnx alot sir.....
