We just saw Dan Tyminski live at Blue Highway Fest. He hit it out of the park. Incredible singer. He's perfection on every song. Power. Pitch. Timing. Expression.
Great list, your top two are in my top three. My favorite is Larry Sparks. And I totally agree with you about Shawn Lane. I'd put him in the top of my favorites. Three's so many that you can't list them all. For example, any of the guys from Balsam Range(Buddy Melton, Caleb Smith, Darren Nicholson), Tim Shelton, etc. Every time you start listing them out, you miss someone.
Tim O'Brien is a great suggestion! I was thinking of him but my kids aren't as familiar with Hot Rize or O'Brien's other work. I'm quite partial to Colleen Malone.
A great suggestion. I've seen her live (with Jim Hurst and Missy Raines) and she's amazing. My kids don't know her work, but maybe I'll play the New Day album for them. Here's a good song from that album: ruclips.net/video/8IwwsyAGLvw/видео.htmlsi=Q5j2aJky9wIDLXav
No Carter Stanley for me, but you're right, Dudley Connell is one of the greats. I thought about him, but you're bound to miss someone, and my kids don't know his singing as well. I think I'll have to remedy that. I really like the Longview albums featuring him, in addition to his Johnson Mountain Boys work.
You're correct, she is certainly the purest singer on the list. The reason she's not number 1 on our list is because her best vocals are not traditional bluegrass. Her recording of "A Living Prayer" is spectacular. And she's just as good live. Actually, better.
Totally agree 😊
Wow! I’m in almost total agreement! I’m putting Tony Rice and Dan Tyminski tied for first. Wayne Taylor 3rd

Tony Rice is hands down my all time favorite. I would also have to include Tim O'Brien in my personal Top 10 list.

John Duffey and Bobby Osborne 😊

Also even though not straight bluegrass Anita Carter voice was awesome

I forgot Charlie Waller too
We talked about including Charlie Waller. One of my favorites.@@cjbaker39

There isn’t a better singer than Alison Krauss regardless of genre.Anyone who doesn’t put her at the top of any list doesn’t have any credibility.

This isn't worth my time! You left out Ralph Stanley.
Ralph Stanley is definitely a legendary bluegrass vocalist.
