Bloomfield Bluegrass
США
Добавлен 18 авг 2022
Bloomfield Bluegrass makes it easy to learn bluegrass harmonies, which are usually learned orally, either from recordings or from others. We sing bluegrass classics part-by-part, so it's easy to learn each part and then sing together as a family or other ensemble. Singing three-part harmonies is lots of fun and is attainable for those with modest singing abilities. And the more you sing, the better you'll get.
Will Bloomfield has been playing bluegrass (banjo, guitar, and mandolin) for years with his Dad and siblings and is now thrilled that his own kids are interested in bluegrass. Dominic (14) has played 5 years of violin and is now learning bluegrass fiddle. Veronica (12) has played violin for four years and is just getting started on the mandolin. Henry (11) has played cello for four years. The kids enjoy singing but are still new to singing harmonies. But if they can sing these pieces, so can you!

Bluegrass Banjo Backup - Filling the Gaps - Accompanying Vocalists - Dynamics
Просмотров 7193 месяца назад
Will demonstrates the banjo backup concept of "filling the gaps," whereby a banjo player inserts a lick to fill the gap when a vocalist breathes or pauses between lyrics. Will also explains how to adjust one's dynamics so that the banjo doesn't drown out the singer. As an example, Will accompanies Dominic singing Your Love is Like a Flower in the Key of B.

Very nice!
I have been a banjo teacher for many years. This is an excellently explained video and provides essential knowledge and tools that will help banjo players of any level. Well done!
Thanks!
Thank you guys.... I really enjoyed this.
Love It!!!
Would love to see them live.
my uncle wrote this song
One of the all-time greatest bluegrass songs. Who was your uncle? I've always connected this song to Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt.
So good to see the family gathered around a single mic. The harmony that will be forth coming is certainly evident now. My favorite instrument has always been the upright bass. Thats going back to 1963. Your little bass player needs to get in front of the lead instead of behind. Took me years to do that. My favorite bass players are Randy barnes and Mark Schatz. Good luck to you all.
10 years ago I found Mike, I haven't looked back accept to listen to his old stuff on RUclips, to see him live is on the bucket list, TY............................
Good lesson - thank you very much
You guys are great. The kids can really sing, they should be proud of themselves! Greetings from Belgium
It was Doc Watson who brought this song into bluegrass music....
O My! So young! And far and away better than Taylor Swift could ever hope to be!
Good lesson, thanks for sharing.
I can't tell you how many guitar players don't understand this. I back way off when other people are soloing (I play Blues Music). It is a courtesy, like not talking while someone else is speaking. But at least 90% of guitar players do it. They play over each other and the singer and I'm not talking just about the beginners or lower level talent doing it, It's also the guys that are supposed to be good. It kills the dynamics and muddies the sound. Everybody can't be out front at the same time.
Exactly right. It's especially difficult with loud instruments like the banjo. You really have to back off. It's also imperative that the singers learn to sing loud, which is very much a part of bluegrass singing. But the instrumentalists are there to support, not drown out.
Such talented kids!
great lesson, thanks
One of the hardest things to do ,play and sing
At about 3:00 you demonstrate a roll that doesn't match the 1-3-1 pattern, bottom of your screen. I've watched this demo in slow speed, but I don't see how the #'s fit what you're playing.
I've rewatched it to make sure that it's right and it is. Here's another way of stating what I'm doing. Begin by plaing the Thumb (1) on the G string. Next is the middle finger (3) on the high D string. Then the forward roll continues with the thumb (1) on the high G string, then index finger (2) on G, then middle finger (3) on high D. I hope that helps.
I was confused but now I realize the numbers refer to finger number, not string number.
Thank you for this reply clarifying that numbers refer to plectrum hand fingers, not strings. I will practice this drill correctly and let you know how it goes. Again, thank you.@@bloomfieldbluegrass
Yes Change your numbers on the screen ! It’s 31 not 13 ! Use the string number not the finger number ! 😅u r confusing your student ! Thanks GB
Also Using TIM is very Helpful! Thumb index middle ! So now change 1 3 is T M ! And under TM write 3 1 ! 😮good luck !🍀 😊
this is great
GREAT FOLKS. ABSOLUTELY GREAT.
Great advice
