Great reaction but I have the impression that you may not be aware that the song that brought you here, "Man of Constant Sorrow", was actually performed by this group and in the movie George Clooney was merely lip-synching. Alison Krause is pitch perfect, and has incredible breath control. Listen to her sing. When You Say Nothing At All. Also listen to Rhiannon Giddens: Wayfaring Stranger. For Country I love Johnny Cash, and all the songs on the album for the movie about him Walk The Line are great, but especially God Will Cut You Down sung by him when he was old and sick. One of the reasons that I like Country in all its forms is that you can listen to real musicians, and artists who can sing and also play an instrument. One of the best guitarists is Vince Gill. Give a listen to Tulsa Time with him, Sheryl Crow, and Eric Clapton, and Vince alone with Go Rest High On That Mountain. Oh, almost forgot: Linda Ronstadt with Blue Bayou.

I love the gentle, soothing side (which Allison represents). I'd recommend Nickel Creek, if you haven't heard yet. Try "The Lighthouses Tale". Anyway, you are right about Alison's voice and the strings. The 'sideways' guitar played with a slide is a Resonator guitar and is commonly called a Dobro...I'm sure you are familiar with the other strings. I think you would also enjoy Rhonda Vincent and Molly Tuttle and I quite like Tina Adair.

If you enjoy angelic voices such as this might I suggest The Wailin’ Jennys. Specifically ONE VOICE off the 40 Days album. Thanks for all you do.

Alison Krauss is incredible. I've been blessed to see her, with Union Station, five or six times in concert as they came to our small town almost every year. This is a beautiful song, as are all her songs, but actually does not show off her voice or violin talent. Suggestions: Atlanta, Down to the River to Pray, Baby Now that I've Found You, When You Say Nothing at All... just to touch the tip of the iceberg.
Speaking of Oh! Brother Where Art Thou, the "Soggy Bottom Boys" were actually Union Station! George Clooney lip synced the vocals by Dan Tyminski, the big fellow in this video playing the acoustic guitar to Alison's immediate left.

I know exactly why it moves you, bro.
While this is on a stage in an auditorium with mics and amps, they could play this in your living room or on your patio. It's the reality and purity of the wonderful musicicianship that hits you in the soul.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Appreciate your reactions, man.
    Hope that makes

She did a duet with Andrea Bocelli of Amazing Grace that will make you cry. Allison did one with Natalie MacMaster called “Get me thru December.” This came out after I lost my children at Christmas and didn’t think I would survive it. God walked with me.

There are dozens of great bluegrass artists old and new - it’s my favorite genre of music and has been for years. Anything by AKUS will be stellar. One of my current favorites that has a video is “Hannah” by Authentic Unlimited. An all-time favorite that is just audio is “The Mountain” by Ronnie Bowman. That song is like a bluegrass string orchestra with great harmonies backing one of the best male vocalists ever.

Polo. I totally fell in love with Alison Krause in mid 1994, when I heard Alison for the first time. She and the Union Station were performing on a program called " Austin City Limits"- I said the same thing as you: "She has an angelic voice. :-) I still love her. :-) p.s. She has had some vocal cord problems, over the years. Think she is OK now. I know you love her too. :-)
