Could you do their song On Top of the world? I think you would really like it. The song is not like the title may suggest about fame and fortune. If you do it, please do the video version because the video alone tells a story.
You should definitely check out and react to their video- "Goodbye Earl!"
I stand by the Chicks. They were right all along!
Nope. Natalie called Toby Keith's song about 9/11 ignorant right after 9/11. She pissed A LOT of people off. She WAS NOT right.
@@kellyanderson7624oh STFU!
She was right, and has the right of free speech to say what she wants.
Go cry somewhere else.
about what?
@kellyanderson7624 Toby was a real patriot and believed everything that the government told him that was true when, in fact 911 was caused by Bush and the deepstate and they hired Moussad to carry out the order's. Sorry to burst your bubble but that is the truth
@@kellyanderson7624 LOL, Trumper.
as a Canadian high school girl I wrote to 5 or 6 American soldiers in Vietnam as pen pals. Sadly, they didn't all come home, but I did meet two much later when they travelled up to Canada from the southern states
That was so nice of you to do. I'm sure it was a great little ray of light for them.
The Dixie Chicks lost a great deal of their popularity for speaking out against the war against Iraq, then changed their name when "Dixie" became pejorative a few years ago. The reason that many people dislike country music is that it traditionally values good storytelling over good singing, but the Chicks do both very well. A version of this song was played out 58,220 times. I live in a village with less than 2K residents, and one of them, a Marine, did not come home. His wife did not remarry.
I'm not a country fan, but this song hits me hard! In short, it's about a, nobody 18 year-old kid who went off to war. Right before he left, met a caring girl who lent him an ear. Struck up a quick, simple relationship, that they kept going while he was overseas.. He didn't make it back! Back in his hometown, there is a role call of the wardead, during the the high school football game. His name is read, no one pays attention, except for that caring girl, who plays in the high school band. Man, life sucks at that point - but at least he left this world with knowing that there was someone out there that CARED for him! Thanks Polo for reacting to this all-too-common story!
The part of the song that gets me in floods is always the line "but nobody really cared" the storytelling upto that point is exactly why and it's brilliantly done. I can never gets passed that part without the tears flowing.
Thank you for this! Nobody seems to get this song and it makes me so angry!
Bruce Robison is a tremendous songwriter who put this beauty together.
Not Ready to Make Nice is amazing
You have to listen to “Earl”
I've been a fan of The Chicks since long ago when they first started touring, so much talent and fabulous voices, everything they do is perfection.
This song still makes me cry to this day.
These ladies were railroaded by the Bush PR machine, although I was very disappointed that they changed the band's name to comply with the PC rage , absolutely brilliant artists
This song always hits me hard. Ive heard it a hundred times and it never loses its punch. The vocals make it even more powerful
Hey Dude, in this Genre of music that is not a Violin it's a "fiddle"!
I've heard this song countless times yet I always cry. Oh, what people have gone through. I'll never forget the woman I worked with years ago whose brother was killed by an IED in Iraq. I barely knew her, but I told her how sorry I was to hear about her brother. She opened up to me, saying, "I just can't believe it, it doesn't seem real." Pain was etched in every breath she took.
I was 12 when my eldest brother was drafted. We had a family picture taken just before he shipped out . He joined the Marines, thinking this may be better than going through the horrors of the Army my father had experienced in WW2. One day, two officers , in their dress whites came to our front door. I’ll never forget the look on my mother’s face. She has passed now, but I always will be grateful that my big brother came home and overcame the horrorsof war. She kept every letter from my dad and brother. This beautiful song makes me cry every time.
I like how they dropped of one instrument at a time to end the song . Brilliant !
Great band took my daughter first time for her 6th bday in 2000 and 2 other times when she was older. Always put on an excellent show.
Man I wore out my Dixie Chicks CD when I was a kid.... they are just bursting with talent. I strongly encourage you to check out more of their work. My favorite songs are You Were Mine, There's Your Trouble, I Can Love You Better, Long Time Gone, and for a funny song/video there is Goodbye Earl.
You gotta check out Whiskey Lullaby, by Brad Paisley and Allison Krause.
Watch the video version
My 3 year old granddaughter is captivated by this group! She just loves it!
Love the Chicks, very talented
The Chicks, formerly The Dixie Chicks, are fabulously talented singers & musicians and I have been a fan of theirs since I was lucky enough to see them in person when they first started touring.
Your next Dixie Chicks song should be "Sin Wagon" I would recommend a live version. They have had some wonderful music over the years. And I am glad they are back performing.
Yes, that’s a good one
You need to check out "Not ready to make nice" by The Chick's. A really great song with a great message!!!
This song always brings tears to my eyes ❤
They were the first group that got clobbered by cancel culture, that I can remember. You won’t hear them on country radio out in the country.
Shame. This one, sin wagon, cowboy take me away, earl had to die, their cover of landslide, wide open spaces, you were mine, so many more great tunes
I don't think it was cancel culture that got them it was our criticism of George Bush over the Iraqi war and I agree with that 100% the second Gulf war should have never happened and George Bush should be charged with war crimes because he's a criminal he took us into war based on his lies the only ones to benefit from the second Gulf war was bush-cheney and halliburton
Ironically, the people who canceled them are the people complaining about cancel culture today. :p
Facts
@@nevaladdernever even thought about it like that either, this needs to be mentioned cuz the chicks when through some horrible black ball shit
This song always makes me cry 😭
I absolutely love this song. Storytelling in songs are always my favorite. Thank you for doing this one ❤
Bruce Robison is the fantastic songwriter who crafted this beauty.
Their voices and harmony is excellent. Some of the best ever harmonies is The Trio with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris.
Yes!!!! Three people who love and appreciate the power of music, and love and appreciate the talent each of them has.
That blend is called harmonizing sir. And it is beautiful
There’s a version on YT where a gal sings as though it was during the US Afghanistan war. Plus the soldier is from Scotland. The gal has the slightest accent ad well which is super cute. The line goes “The letters came from an army camp in Edinburgh then Afghanistan.” It gives me chills on chills thinking so many young men and women were dying in Afghanistan with American soldiers. God bless our dear allies in the UK.
You might want to listen to them doing Not Ready To Make Nice. This was in the Bush era, and they were against the war in Iraq. They were from Texas and so was Bush, and he got angry at them for being vocal about the war. So, he writes them a letter, and the rest, you'll have to listen to. Have a great week. 😊 PS. I just subscribed.
Makes me cry...so sad.❤❤❤😢
Polo I love you.
Thank you this song brings back memories when I was in vietnam.😊😊
String instruments, brass instruments, woodwinds (oboes, flutes, etc.), cover.
I’m not a country fan but this song touched my heart. Late husband Vietnam War veteran. When people say The Chicks are un-American I refer them to this song. Please check out Highwomen by The Highwomen.
Talented and lovely ladies all
Love the Dixie Chicks. ❤
Dixie Chicks 'Top of the World'🥺
I got to do security for one of their concerts where my spot right at the stage left corner. One of the best concerts I've been to.
First the Home Free version for the Soldiers in the Desert I miss terribly now the Dixie Chicks for those I t remember from Viet Nam.
They do a great cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide." Also try and listen to "Not Ready To Make Nice", "Easy Silence", "Cowboy Take Me Away", "Let Him Fly".....
Agreed! You may also appreciate (although not by "The Chicks") the Fleetwood Mac covers of "Gold Dust Woman" by Darling West (ft Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra) ruclips.net/video/EvFJvwOYhjY/видео.html, and/or their cover of "Everywhere" is also excellent ruclips.net/video/lZB4Dl3EBfk/видео.html
They did start out as the Dixie Chicks. The two sisters are from the Dallas area and I think I've been to about 15 "concerts" before they hit it big. The Manes sister's mom worked at a private school where my husband attended (and later both of my daughters) so I've watched their climb to fame. I don't think I have heard even one song that I didn't like in some way. The range of music is out of this world and you can't beat those harmonies
In cotemporary music its called a violin, in Country music its called a fiddle
I always wanted them to do that old Doobie Bros song Black Water.Got their first 2 albums.
I'm always looking for your videos good job. Thank you😊
❤ I'll always call them the Dixie Chicks. ❤
They have beautiful harmonies!! Always loved them!! This cancel culture is gonna come back to bite some folks. And that gal can play a fiddle!!
Their voices... ❤
They do a fantastic cover of Shower the People You love
They have a song called Not ready to make nice. It's a response to what they were put through. The made a remark about George W Bush some people didn't like. The ladles had their lives threatened, bomb threats, radio stations refused to play them and people burned their C.D's. You should watch the video.
Always loved their music and harmonies, didn’t like their comments. But it’s absolutely horrific that they would be threatened over it. Don’t like something or disagree? Fine, move on, let other people do the same.
My favourite song of theirs
I love the Dixie Chicks/The Chicks. Too many people concerned about comments they made about Bush, when there are too many out there that malign every president we have had since then. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I’m glad you reacted to this, it’s a beautiful and sorrowful song.
Natalie went to Berklee School of Music for a VOCAL Scholarship. didnt happen in those days... She is the best vocalist ever in country radio. I am a retired radio programmer.
Polo, your face says it all!
Their song top of the world is one of their best that gets overlooked
One of my favorites. Suggestions for review: Waterbound by two different groups: The Fretless, Dirk Powell in the Transatlantic Sessions.
After they were “canceled” for criticizing George W. Bush, they wrote an incredible song about it called Not Ready to Make Nice. Polo, you gotta hear that one. So powerful.
They were canceled because Natalie Maines called Toby Keith's song about 9/11 ignorant, right after 9/11.
Check out "if I fall" and they did a great cover version of "landslide" by Fleetwood MAC
Great song.
Great sound, country tells a story
Not ready to make nice
The Chicks are one of the best country bands of all time IMO. They are the real deal. And I’m a metal guy. I felt the same way at their peak that I do now about Chris Stapleton.
They were the real deal until they took Dixie out of their name.
Couldn’t agree more
❤️ a beautiful song I think🔥
Please check out Sugarlands live version of Red Dirt Road at a Brooks and Dunn tribute . Vocals are phenomenal !
Bruce Robinson wrote it and I posted it in comments on your other Chicks song.
Found that link to Bruce Robinson 's version ruclips.net/video/l7cgx8U1GNs/видео.htmlsi=wjL-GE3VWU1lwNiD
The soldier came home in a body bag.
❤️
That's a fiddle in country music
I haven’t listened to them since 2002 after Natalie criticized our military
Perfection
Not a country fan but they are great
Natalie maines does a killer cover of Pink Floyd's Mother as well
If you want something different but beautiful, look up Jay Unger’s Ashoken Farewell. Probably one of the most beautiful pieces of soundtrack score ever written.
Love The Chicks and this heartbreaking song! Other favorite songs by them are "Sin Wagon" (live), "Nor Ready to Make Nice", "Goodbye Earl". I am so sorry for this amazing band being blacklisted for expressing their opinion on politics in a country, which boasts of freedom of speech.
Dixie Chics are amazing
But this song hits. So does the remake of Stevie Nicks 'Landslide'. I don't care how they were treated cause I support them❤
I just discovered you yesterday! PLEASE consider listening to some Indigo Girls. Power of Two or Galileo to start.
Yes, he died, and nobody knew about their love story. She had to hear it over the intercom at a Friday night football game.
They changed their name as they were very vocal about send US. Soldiers to war . They were sound by media and govt.😮
Please react to SheDaisy “Mine All Mine”. Their voices, the lyrics, the music video… just WOW! You’ll be an instant fan of theirs, I promise!
Definitely recommend Goodbye Earl and Not Ready to Make Nice. Cancel culture crap aside, the Chicks are incredibly talented.
So 😭 sad ..
✌️ Polo ✌️...
How is this cancel culture? They’re saluting our troops that have made it possible for you all to be commenting on here. Anyone whom has a redundant comment on this has never had a family member in the service.
Never been a country music fan but The Chicks are one of my favorite bands.
Great beard dude.
Yes they changed name to The Chicks. Saw them last summer in concert.
The lead singer is Natalie Maines you'll hear her voice on lots of tunes, these Texas musicians all stick together...another sound and scene on its own in Texas. This song went from number one to off the charts in a matter of a week because of comments Natalie made about then President Bush while in the UK. I feel bad for the writer of that song and many other country hits Bruce Robison...thanks for reacting to The Dixie Chicks, me I'm not dropping the Dixie.
In country music, it's called a fiddle
Love, love, love THE CHICKS. You will too. More please, you will not be disappointed. Sin wagon is great, Goodbye Earl is alot of fun.
they will always be the Dixie Chicks
One of the saddest songs ever written
The took Dixie out years ago bc it was deemed offensive
Sadly this country cries about everything
^ this
They should have never bent the knee!!
It's really not that big of a deal. So they are "The Chicks" now. It didn't change their music. The sun will still come up tomorrow. Lol
The Chicks dropped Dixie from their name after George Floyd. The word Dixie embraces the "old south" and that's just not who they are.
Their song "March, March" official video includes a lot of footage from this BLM marches, as well as others.
Kind of an anthem of our times. Very brave thing for country artists to do. Worth checking out, even if you want to avoid the politics of doing it on utube. Do it for yourself, it's worth it.
Dixie Chicks is their real name. They let themselves be politically bullied into dropping " Dixie".
So many great songs in this catalog, but for some reason I think you'd like "Goodbye Earl."
Martina McBride farm aid Please
The Dixie chicks are incredible. I suppose they dropped the 'dixie', unfortunately. 🙄 They're first album was 🔥
@joedirty7176 They changed to The Chicks a few years ago when everything Confederate related was being removed. ( statues, flag, building names,...etc). It was a PR move to not be associated to that particular period of history. Although, I don't think anyone really cared about their name, tbh.
@Joe dirty71 They might have dropped it when everyone was complaining about the use of the word...'Dixie'. But remember when radio stations & country stations in particular....were upset because the lead singer said something about George W Bush. I went to see them & bought all of their early albums because of that. Saw them on their 'Not Ready To Make Nice' tour. A GREAT show.
@@195511SM you Sir, have hit the nail right on the head. 🫵🏻👍🏻
ALL of their albums are fire
Chicks Rule!
They got rid of the Dixie in their name so as not to offend people.
A couple of unique badass tunes, excuse my French
"Simple man "
by shinedown
"Eye in the sky" by
The Alan Parsons project .
THESE WOMAN WHERE
GREAT OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO. BECAUSE OF POLITICAL BULL THEY OUSTED THEM. THANK YOU BUSH...😢
I never noticed before but I hear a lot of Taylor Swift in this, wonder if she was influenced by them
