I own the Triumph Trophy SE the transmission is clunky too. The valve adjustment 32K service was almost $2000 Canadian Dollars. But for Interstate riding these bikes are in a league of their own. My bike is all packed in the garage leaving Alberta Canada for Montana/Idaho and Washington trip now the kids are all back in school !!! Ride safe everyone....
Nice review. I had the pleasure of attending a BMW DEMO Day this weekend and tested S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR and R 1250 RT. And couldn’t agree more on the RR quick shifter. That is super smooth. Months ago I also tested the K1600 B. Coming from an RS, it was weird starting the K1600 as there’s just about zero vibration. When riding it, my first thought was I was riding on a cloud or perhaps a Star Wars speeder bike. As for the seat, it is most likely a similar construction as my RS. It too is comfortable, but around the 90 min mark my arse and back would start hurting. I replaced it with a Sargent seat and that changed the riding experience big time. I can now ride 2 hours without any butt or back issues.
I have one Bruce. It’s just over a year old now. Done 10,000 miles on it and she is a class bike. The phone lead is purchasable from BMW and is almost necessary as any other I’ve tried is either too long or not 90 degrees into phone. As you would expect, the BMW lead is £40!!! I travelled a loop to Nordkapp and back down Finland for a month in June and she’s so well weather protected, most of the time I had riding jeans and mesh jacket on.
Thank you Bruce a balanced view of a great bike, like so many others I operate a GTL/ e...and also had a wing. The bm puts a grin on my mush for different reason than the wing, but my arse loves the wing.
Totally agree with your review, I have a GT and a Goldwing and they are as different as you described. But I bought them because of the differences. Both are planted, low COG, each fun in its own way, etc. Thanks
Here, exactly the same. It's rare to read honest comments of these bikes. Everyone try always to put one better than the other, but they're just different with no comparing. The goldwing is like a Mercedes Classe E (great comfort) and the K16 is like a BMW M5 (very sporty).
Good review. I also test rode a Goldwing, and in the area that I live, there are lots of technical roads. I found the Goldwing's handling to be less capable than the K16GT on tight windy roads. The Goldwing was scraping its pegs and just felt noticeably less athletic and slower to respond to input. I also preferred the K16GT's engine, it is much more engaging and more thrilling to ride. The Golding bags are smaller as well, which was another deciding factor. I think if I was traveling mostly on interstate roads I might have considered the Goldwing, but for anyone wanting a better handling and accelerating touring bike, the K16GT is the king.
Hi big man, DIN stands for Deutsche Industrie Norm which translates to something linke German Industrial Standard. And of course, being a german bike produced by germans, about everything has an industrial standard, a DIN :) Actually most ( actually I can noit find an exception ) EN, European industrial standards, were taken from the DIN. You may remember the EU standarizing the Bananas a few years ago, that was actually already done in the DIN as well.... actually it was supposed to standaraize the riping process of green Bananas. So, as always, we Germans need to have a regulation and a standard for everything ! :) Nice vid, I really had some fun.
I think that is good, to be praised. Corporate industries/products should be regulated well. But the govt has no business creating standards for adults as to what they can do with their own bodies, minds. An individual ought to be able to create or perform in any way on their own without any regulation at all (as long as they are not using force, fraud or deceit to harm others). Corporations are the creations of govt, and govt has a duty to ensure their operations function in accord to various specifications+standards.
I was contemplating one of these last year as the wife was talking about going pillion on some rides. I test rode one of these and a Goldwing. For me, the K1600 was miles better than the Goldwing purely because of the engine. There wasn't enough excitement with the Goldwing, whereas the K1600 has a fantastic sound and much more power. Both are huge barges though and I decided against buying one because I would be riding without a pillion for 95% of the time and I still want something a bit more nimble.
I bought my K1600GT back in March after coming off a 2018 Goldwing. The GW is built for putting on some serious miles. Not so much with the GT. The ride is miserable after 30-40 minutes in the saddle. I bought lowering foot pegs, bar risers, and added a Russell Day Long seat just to make the ride bearable. Joints ache, etc. I'm probably going to trade it in for a GSA. Other than that bike is fine. Little gear clunky at lower speeds, but decent HP.
I had that bike for a day too. I really enjoyed it. I loved the silky smooth engine. I agree about the pegs - and after the day's riding, I felt that I'd need highway pegs on the engine bars (but I'd need to get the GTL with the topbox as it gets the slightly more protruding engine bars to mount the pegs to). If I had the money, and was after a tourer, I gladly throw my money at one.
Nice video! Just picked up a 2024 GTL this past weekend. I was a cruise kinda guy and was looking at the R18 Transcontinental until my local shop had me test drive one of these...lol I am 53 and am loving how nimble this bike is.
Had a 2020 model GTLE for 3 years. The engine is sublime but I found the leg position quite difficult to sort. Ended up with lowered pegs and larger screen. Great handling bike until I was too up and fully laden trying to do a U turn on a bad road when I got lost. Even with reverse I struggled to manoeuvre it and became a nervous wreck. In my 3 years I never used the radio once. I’ve now gone back to the R1250rt the forth I’ve had as this suits my style a little better. But enjoyed the K1600 when I had it. Boy could it go. Doesn’t the phone charge in the holder automatically, it does on the RT
I was stood outside CEF Redhill with a semi looking at one of these, as a KTM sdr 1290 rider, I had to have a serious word with myself aftwerwards. Great looking 2's up bike
I love mine and it annoys me in equal measure. Got a 2022 Sport GT after an S1000rr and GS. It’s an i’n incredible bike but not all things to all people. The phone socket for charging is not obvious but come out at right angles from the front face… a standard iphone cable fits. Took mine to the IOM this May and had a real blast. It’s a great bike but you are right you need a day or two to understand the big beast.
The riding position on the GT is exactly the same as on the RT and seems too flexed in the knees only if you just came off a GS. When using it daily you get used to it real quick. I (187 cm) ride mine on my 112km highway commute with no discomfort.
Hello Bruce. Fantastic review as always. I use Rain mode on my Goldwing DCT for all slow speed manoeuvres eg car parks, town filtering. This mode means smoothness is king. Also great to hear you singing the praises of the Goldwing while on a BMW 🤔. My mate, also called Bruce, is getting his VFR back on the road and then we are going to ride to Ardnamurchan Point 😎
I took an RT out about 4 months ago, didn't get on with it. The dealership, knowing I was coming from an 1300 Pan, offered me a ride on the brand new K16 demo... about 20 miles later I rode back too them with a "yes, I'll take one of those!" It should be noted, that the machine you rode doesn't have a stock screen on it - the stock is slightly lower, and you don't get the back pressure. Mine has developed a fault (that I won't detail here because it's probably not fair). It's in warranty, so I'm sure it'll be fine. There's a USSB C socket hiding behind the TFT in the dash (with a little airconditioned pocket to keep your phone in). The socket is on the front edge, near where your phone screen was. Road softens the throttle and the suspension (makes it nicer on the ol' posterior), Rain simply kills the bike but it primes the electronic aids so you can get away with greasy roads better. But in Road or Dynamic, it just does everything you ask of it and replies "Yes sir, would sir like some more speed with that?"
Re the alarm - the '23 does come with datatool tracker AND factory fitted alarm & mobiliser. You can also disable the beeps from the alarm, and being keyless, the only sign it's there is the red light on the dash. Re servicing, the service plan makes sense ;)
@JoshDros - thanks bud, glad you enjoy them, they’re fun to do. I don’t do lots of them as I just find those channels all a much of a muchness tbh, I much prefer just getting out on a bike, seeing places and meeting people. I’m actually planning on integrating the two facets in my vids next year if I can 👍
Great vid Bruce. Also, I’ve been looking for a waterproof din adapter I could just leave plugged in for my Tiger. Thanks for the link and code. Got one on the way.
Great review mate, love the commentating as you go, let's others know what your seeing or anticipating which hopefully improves their own riding and safety. 👍
Ha dude, great video. Had valve clearance and big service in February, £950.00 inc vat, plus front pads changed and new battery. That's with my BMW dealership. 1500 dude, that's ridiculous. Love my K1600 ❤ Safe riding.
Great review. I had a 1600 GT for 3 years and have subsequently had 4, K1600 GTLE's they really are not the same bike at all. You very much sit on the GT and in the GTL and I find the GTL far more comfortable for big mileage. Not sure if you have ridden the GTL against the Goldwing but the GT is not (IMHO) the direct comparison. I have tried the Honda and was very happy to get back to my bike as it seemed very underpowered although beautifully made and well finished.
Great review Bruce, i think that valve clearance service would put me off with the miles that i do on my bike, however if you're a low miles rider it might not bother you, but i like the servicing costs of the GSA, far more reasonable, for comparison i just paid out £510 inc vat for the valve service which included front brake pad replacement, at a BMW Main dealership. so much cheaper than the big k, i'd get 3 valve services for the price of the K's one ! food for thought.... cheers for an honest, as usual, review... ATB 👍
The K1600 is getting my attention more and more. I drive a GsA and I love it. It makes me, an average driver feel like an advanced driver. If I can’t control myself any longer I would seriously look at the Bagger version. Question, is that a quad lock on your steering bar? Ps, the GsA does have a usb-a connector. Just don’t put any AliEx connectors in it 🫣 you are a mobile tv studio with all your camera gear, drone and all! Cheers
I bought one on the back of your last review on the older model. I love it but find the gear box proper clunky on the way down from speed and if you roll all the way off the throttle you get a dip on the front end. Great mile muncher….just had 12k service £490 and the BIG valve service 18k service is now ‘only’ £850!! Oh and the horn….a truck horn on a solo!
@@teapotone yes, and motorad doing a deal at moment….three services ‘plan’ £850 pay upfront but saving near 50% in the long run. I loved my GS but this is more comfy for the 100 mile daily into Laaandon.
Fantastic bit of kit Bruce. Looks best suited to bashing out the miles on motorways and A roads. External speakers on a motorcycle, sorry, I just don't get it.
@banditmanuk - cheers bud, it’s surprisingly handy on the B-road country twisties, and the speakers are brilliant for those too - I was cruising around the south east in the sun, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack booming out - Happy days 😎🤣👍
Hi Bruce, enjoyed your review of the K1600, and considering you had it for such a short period you covered the vast majority of stuff regarding the bike, and like you I have a 1250 GSA, best bike on the planet ha-ha. Even though I love BMW's I'm with you for the Goldwing holding the crown in that category of bike. By the way I can tell you I'm a good few years older than you at 66 years old, and the moaning and negativity is a age thing and I'm afraid it will only get worse. Thank you Victor, oh sorry Bruce I mean.
Hello Bruce, Are you considering a long term review of your GSA ? With the mileage and at three years old this would make for an interesting review. If so would you include such aspects as warranty work and the cost of servicing as well as pillion comfort ( l know you don't take pillions though) I am looking at a GSA at present for a long term bike and most reviews are test rides or six months ownership. Something for the winter months perhaps. Enjoy your channel particularly the adventure up here in Scotland.
Hi. I enjoy your channel. I have a K1600GT. I was cracking up about your comment on rain mode. So true lol. I keep mine in the heathen devil worshipping sin dynamic mode all the time. I find the the throttle response is better from stop.. no stalling. Be safe
Great review Bruce apart from the leg/peg angle that bike looks made for you . I still prefer my RT position wise weight ect but it’s a good lookin Lassie for sure Woo Ha 🏍🎉🎉👍
Another very good review. Now I seem to remember that the 2019 didn't 'tickle your danglies' whereas the 2023 was 'bollock tingling' in dynamic mode! 😂 Could it be that you didn't use dynamic on the 2019? 🤔 - I can atest that my 2019 is pretty tingly danglies inducing?! Can't say Ive ever noticed the first gear selection thing on my 2019. One point of observation for the benefit of potential buyers is I average 53-54 mpg making similar progress as yourself in the video. When I fill up the range generally shows circa 278 miles (as opposed to the 220 miles you had showing in the video). This is almost certainly down to my using a lot more of the engines flexibility to be in much higher gears than you were using (never labouring the engine though - I change down if more than 20-25% ish throttle needed to maintain speed). I realise that you probably used much lower gears for the great engine sound and to feel/ demo its eagerness coming out of turns etc for the purpose of the review and I only mention this so potential buyers are aware of the amazing economy for the size of these things if driven with that in mind...and that's without sacrificing very brisk progress at all. You can also inhibit the alarm in settings - manual mode requires you to set it with the button on the key fob, so if you don't press it doesn't set and no bleeps etc. I also think that the phone compartment charges your phone wirelessly? Also to note is that the 18k, 36k, etc services include valve checks and is just under £800 (as of may 2023) and a lot can be saved with a service plan (I got a 5 year one for £1150) and have already had the clearances done as part of the 18k service. Dealers don't seem to promote this deal, I saw it on the motorrad website. Keep the vids coming. 👍🏼
They're 'beautifully balanced' at low speeds with new tyres. Once the front tyre starts to triangulate, as it's a heavy bike and the tyre is dual compound and wears fast on its sides, that slow speed balance is compromised badly with road irregularities. It becomes hard work especially when filtering. You really have to think about your parking as well. Nose in on a sloping kerb and without reverse you'll probably need some help
@@teapotone My older one didn't. It's recommended to anyone thinking of getting one to seriously consider making sure they either have a reverse gear or a pillion. Or they could be super careful where they park especially stone/gravel areas.
I found out yesterday that you are a God. The teapot in the outer space religion. Nice work my friend. Owned a R1150RT 2004 and loved the bike, not the dealership and the closest next dealership was 200 miles away.
Honestly, listening to Jodie's opinions on your love of the GS .The CB 500 X is the perfect motorbike for your next progression. The throttle goes both ways. Nick, your riding skills can keep pace with Jodie's.
I have the GT after two RT. Like the bike for many of the reasons in the review , smooth , quick enough just more refined than RT box wise for example. But it takes practice and planning at junctions and parking . I got it because while I loved the RT when loaded it was almost unmanageable parking / reversing without reverse gear facility. Overall I suppose I’d prefer the lighter RT for every day but the K16 for longer trips ….. the weight at my age going forward is starting to nag and thinking of RT again but a 1250 with a 1300 on the slipway may not be depreciation sensible and no signs of reverse for the new RT? The other thing is buying a K16 is easy but trading it in very difficult from my initial enquiries there’s a lot of “ooh it’s really difficult nobody wants them “ talk so beware you can get to the top of the tree touring wise and suddenly find there’s no way down 😮
Nice review. I own a K 1600 GT slightly older. I’m an ex-pat Scot living in California.. but I have no idea what this nationals thing means? Have I missed some UK TV ad or something?
Crikey I don’t know how you ride those roads with the hedges so close to the road and anything could come out !!!! Scary stuff. I looked at the price of servicing, and bought an R18 transcontinental
Nice, (have you given up going to Arden BMW then 🤨). Not tried one of these altho look and sound awesome. Was on a group ride earlier in the year and behind one of these, wow, when he pulled away... the noise. I have similar peg position on my K1300GT. Not sure how the tall Germans manage on a long tour. You filled up at the most expensive Petrol staions around. May have to try one.
@stuartfittall8631 - aye I pretty much have given up with Arden’s now, there’s always a huge long waiting list for servicing and they don’t seem to be bothered about trying to help you out. Shame as I used to have a great relationship with Coopers a good few years ago. I like Group 1 in Brighton and Lind BMW up in Welwyn Garden City, they do what they can to help you out if you need a short-notice service or any help with anything
I just wish I could put the GTs bags on the Wing. I don't know how anyone who's ever actually traveled on a bike could come up with the tiny, badly shaped ones that the Honda has.
I do like the K1600 GT in the white red and blue, It's a looker and I bet it can boogie too. But let's get to the nitty gritty. What's happening with the Gixxer?? I need to see a video update with it..... Please 🙏🙏🙏
Excellent Review Bruce Love Your Grumpyness 😂😂😂 As You will know the RT has a similar seating position, I’ve just finished my first Year on the RT and the seating position has takin some getting used to but the large screen is awesome, Question for you- would you have the k16 over an RT ?
@timsapper8030 - good question, if servicing costs weren’t an issue I’d be tempted by the K1600, but I do like the low down grunt of the boxer engine 🤷♂️
Thanks @andrewmason2879 - I’d take the GS every single time as it does 95% of everything very well, touring, commuting, hooligan, offroad, track. But I’d take the GS over the GSA for sure - the adventure is just a fat GS… for now 😉
Used to have one of these, exactly the same problem you described with the seat and switch like problem of my arse being in pain. With regards to goldwing comparison, any chance you'll be trying the gtl with different ergonomics?
As much as I've hanckered after one, after last weeks little chat you've put me off! I think I'll go for the Rt instead. Great to meet you . Hope tractor is in fine fettle too
@AdventureRockNRoller - RT is more comfortable a riding position for me personally, they’re both incredibly stable bikes and very easy to ride, and I love the speed and performance of the K1600… BUT I’d go for the RT and boxer engine as it’s way cheaper to service and maintain, plus I prefer the low down grunt more for road riding 👍
Ow do Bruce, top vid as ever. My bikes in for the suspension on the front telelever is that what’s gone on yours? Just wondering how common the repair is and if it is are they just putting a new unit on? Cheers pal, hopefully see you in Wales 👍
Hello @moistdecoy Yep that’s what went on mine, not sure if it’s a particularly common thing - I tend to not go on any forums etc and not heard of anyone else’s I know of 🤷♂️
I live on the Queensland side of the NSW border and I recently road to Newcastle. About an eight hour ride. I have to ride over the mountains on the border and I was riding behind a K1600 and a Goldwing. The K1600 was looking very sure footed and the Goldwing was all over the place. Also, Australia roads are rubbish.
@stevelawrie9115 - I’d say that’s more down to the riders to be honest, I’ve ridden both and the Goldwing is noticeably better all round, and that’s the opinion shared by quite a few others I know who’ve ridden both 👍
As an ex k1600gt owner I have to agree with your views on it. After touring the peaks, pennines & Lake District on it I came to the conclusion that it couldn't decide whether it was a sport bike or a tourer and so was really neither. Also seemed to be designed to operate best at speeds way in excess of lawful. The bike is a missile but was a bit soulless at any legal speed. Traded it in and back on a boxer. Nice review. Thanks.
It's an awful mistake (but also maybe a great compliment), that experienced testers so regularly compare this excellent GT bike to a flat out dedicated Tourer like the Goldwing. They are entirely different bikes with differing target audiences with likely VERY different riding styles. The RT is BMW's premium Tourer. :)
Loved it when tried it last year. Need to try it with Mrs on the rear seat. Loved the overall smoothness and that engine is a beast 🤩 Did not like the clunky sound of the quickshifter (although very smooth). Also, feel the same as you about the footpegs, especially since I have the ball of my feet on them (accentuating the bend in the knees). For the weight, pretty agile bike, although the tractor with its huge wide bar, is much easier to swing from one side to the other, and like you say, at some point, you have to engage yourself (which the GSA doesn’t need). I was pretty surprised by the comfort : thought it would be much more on the firm side, but for my skinny 🍑, it was ok. I found quite cool to have the phone in the cubby place, and have the map on the screen. Thankfully, my dealer told me I was not old enough for the K1600 😂 My banker is relieved 😅 Great review, as always 👍
She is a big girl and needs a big guy to handle her : ) I can see it's capable of big miles and looks like a good tourer, bum aching is a bit of a concern though. May be too heavy for the Uk twisties and more suited to the autobann
It’s definitely not for me Bruce. I’m struggling to see where the benefit might be over an RT for me or even an RS. Too big, too heavy and what is it with bmw that they don’t seem to be able to sort bike ergo properly. Unacceptable at the price and annoying. A bike like this should not have high pegs and not swept back. If I had to have a big tourer it would be either the RT or the Goldwing dct. Honda have nailed it with that bike. For me, the killer is a bike has to be able to be used to enjoy the tight twisties when destination is arrived at or there’s no point to it. The other killer for me besides ergo issues is service and running costs. I’ll be sticking with the big boxer for now. Good summing up. I get the feeling it’s not fir you either?
@andyhorsfall9394 - Hmm that’s tricky… it’s not as comfortable for me as a rider as the GS, but I didn’t test the K1600 with a pillion so I don’t know if it’s comfortable for them or not? For me and the type of riding I do, I’d have an adventure bike over a big Sports Tourer any day of the week. I prefer the usable low-down grunt and the ability to go anywhere 🤷♂️👍
@willwye410 - it’s done over 50,000 miles in the last 3yrs so I’ve no issue that it needs work… but as always, it’s HOW the dealership deals with that issue which matters to me. Hence why I stay with BMW for now, no other manufacturer comes close 😉
One thing that seems to be cropping up with a lot of new big bikes I've seen is the extortionate service costs for the "big" service. A Ducati Desert X valve service was touted as 'over a grand'! I think for that price range I'd be seriously looking into learning how to do them myself! Maybe I'm out of touch, but that seems steep?
Great video. I prefer the K's to the boxers, as the K's are silky smooth to ride. I do have a boxer at the moment. The thing that's putting me off from buying this K is the weight !! It will be almost impossible to pick up or even push around. As for trying to 'reverse' it out of a gravel car park or something similar - dread to even think about that.😬🙄 If you are thinking about servicing costs at an authorised BMW dealership - speak to your bank manager first. 🤣😂.Motorcycle spares for ANY motorbikes/manufacturer have a rip-off mark-up of around 80%. As motorcylists, we enjoy our riding, & turn a blind eye to these not-so-nice motorbike-related issues.

Thanks very much bud, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it 👍
Need this and the goldwing for another TP1 and LCR taste test. Being grumpy comes with age, happened last year to me when I turned 50.
@tenfx5749 - aye I’d love to do a “BIG Hunts” with the Goldwing and K1600, about time Chops and I got on with another one eh 😉👍
I chose the Goldwing. Not as savage, but so much more liveable

Great review, love the camera work. 😊
Rain Mode -> "Just give up on life". ROTF!
I have the gtl and I love it .get past the weight of it and fact I am a short arse 5'7"
@andrewdyson4255 - no it’s not wireless charging on the K1600 weirdly, you need the cable 🤷♂️👍
If you jog wheel right it goes into split screen mate. Each time you do it the option on the split screen changes what you see.
@dshave62 - cheers Damo 👍
@mclarnonc2002 - that’s a cracking run to the point, have a great time 👍
I really enjoyed this test Bruce, grumbles and all 👍🙂 That valve service cost 😮
I bought one of these (from Vines too) last year…..done France Spain Germany Switzerland in two tours since and absolutely love it….
I took an RT out about 4 months ago, didn't get on with it. The dealership, knowing I was coming from an 1300 Pan, offered me a ride on the brand new K16 demo... about 20 miles later I rode back too them with a "yes, I'll take one of those!"
It should be noted, that the machine you rode doesn't have a stock screen on it - the stock is slightly lower, and you don't get the back pressure.
Your reviews are really great. All the different shots of riding positions. Wish you would do more reviews.
@JoshDros - thanks bud, glad you enjoy them, they’re fun to do.
I don’t do lots of them as I just find those channels all a much of a muchness tbh, I much prefer just getting out on a bike, seeing places and meeting people. I’m actually planning on integrating the two facets in my vids next year if I can 👍
Enjoyed this review. Not my sort of bike, much too heavy, but always interesting to see what they're like. Nash-nulls!
8:22 I spy an ABR t-shirt, good to see you again this year! :D
Cheers
LCR,TMF and TeaPotone , it doesn’t get any better😊
I love you all💪
Keep up the good work.
Thx for all your fantastic vlogs
🇳🇱
Thanks very much bud! 👍
Don't forget Username Kate!
@@peterboczan2116 Thx 💪
“Rain mode..might as well give up on life!!” - that should be on a T-shirt mate 😂. Great vid, cheers Bruce.
@atlantinoRossi - now THAT’s a great idea! Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Nice vid.... I have a GS... so I'm familiar with BMW.... I think for my money, I'd go for the Goldwing.
That nationals singing that every reviewer seems to use at the moment will go down with "Twisties" "peppie" and hooning!
@johnnybloodshoes7401 - my job here is done 👊🎤
Welcome to the club Bruce, you are officially becoming a well seasoned grumpy old man, lol
@Bungle1809 - Wow really?! That’s a BIG reduction in service cost, great to hear 👍
@@teapotone yes, and motorad doing a deal at moment….three services ‘plan’ £850 pay upfront but saving near 50% in the long run. I loved my GS but this is more comfy for the 100 mile daily into Laaandon.
Nice one Bruce..a great bike, not my banana. I did love the goldwing, tho! Bagger only.
Great vid and review, and as a BMW fanboy i still think id buy the goldwing, as all tourers are trying to be it.
7:04 it’s always time to pull off Bruce
It’s a lovely looking bike, it sounds like the foot pegs are set abit too sporty for a touring bike.
What’s the speakers all about
Would be awesome to see how the k16 or goldwing handles the 4 corners challenge 😍
@millsonwheela4528 - they’d eat it up I’m sure 👍
Great touring bike Bruce nice review keep up the great vids 👍
Had one for 3 years loved it
There is definitely a charger in the front pouch and don’t be fooled by bmw with there over price wire with the bent end because a normal cable fits
"internal speakers" on a bike would make even lesser sense 😂
@kwakithailand well yes, I guess you have a point 😂
On a bike like this, you can hear your tunes at Motorway speeds no problem
Hi Bruce, enjoyed your review of the K1600, and considering you had it for such a short period you covered the vast majority of stuff regarding the bike, and like you I have a 1250 GSA, best bike on the planet ha-ha. Even though I love BMW's I'm with you for the Goldwing holding the crown in that category of bike. By the way I can tell you I'm a good few years older than you at 66 years old, and the moaning and negativity is a age thing and I'm afraid it will only get worse. Thank you Victor, oh sorry Bruce I mean.
Hello Bruce,
Are you considering a long term review of your GSA ?
With the mileage and at three years old this would make for an interesting review.
If so would you include such aspects as warranty work and the cost of servicing as well as pillion comfort ( l know you don't take pillions though)
I am looking at a GSA at present for a long term bike and most reviews are test rides or six months ownership.
Something for the winter months perhaps.
Enjoy your channel particularly the adventure up here in Scotland.
Great review, i agree the Goldwing is the better bike. One point with the Wing, it has hydraulic valves, so servicing is much cheaper
Some quality camera angles there. Very professional 👌
@bubbajigglestv - cheers 👍
@15:39 Teapot turns into a Minecraft character taking enemy damage 🤣🤣
I’ve been enjoying your videos. Thanks.
Am intrigued as to where you got the strap extenders for your backpack. My R30 seems to have shrunk!
Cheers
Just drop Kriega a line and they do them for free 👍
@@teapotone Brilliant! Cheers.
@dalehawkes1698 - cheers bud, I’d prefer the RT tbh, but would take the Goldwing over both for that type of bike if I had the wonga 👍
@stevecade857 - good point about wear on tyres, but the parking bit is irrelevant surely as it does have reverse👍
🤣👍
Honestly, listening to Jodie's opinions on your love of the GS .The CB 500 X is the perfect motorbike for your next progression. The throttle goes both ways. Nick, your riding skills can keep pace with Jodie's.
Eh? Did you mean to comment on this vid bud?
TeapotOne, great review! You're getting old when "the foot position is a little to far back..." LOL!. I'm 59, so I know what you're talking about.
Please 🙏🙏🙏
It’s coming 👍
@@teapotone can't wait. Looking forward to it mate. 😁
very nice piece of kit
Excellent Review Bruce
Love Your Grumpyness 😂😂😂
As You will know the RT has a similar seating position, I’ve just finished my first Year on the RT and the seating position has takin some getting used to but the large screen is awesome,
Question for you- would you have the k16 over an RT ?
@timsapper8030 - good question, if servicing costs weren’t an issue I’d be tempted by the K1600, but I do like the low down grunt of the boxer engine 🤷♂️
Brilliant review has always mate. If you had a choice only between a bmw 1250 adventure a 1250 RT LE and this one which one would you choose ?👍
Thanks @andrewmason2879 - I’d take the GS every single time as it does 95% of everything very well, touring, commuting, hooligan, offroad, track.
But I’d take the GS over the GSA for sure - the adventure is just a fat GS… for now 😉
@teapotone How did you attach the phone? Did you use the gripper arm, u-bolt or handlebar attachment? K1600 handlebars are not so easy to attach to.
Used to have one of these, exactly the same problem you described with the seat and switch like problem of my arse being in pain. With regards to goldwing comparison, any chance you'll be trying the gtl with different ergonomics?
When are we going to see Mrs. Pot riding pillion on these style bikes?
@stimpyueediot - she has done a few, but wasn’t home when I had this one
Nice Brucey| But more walk-arounds please 🙂
Been waiting for this Brucey!
As much as I've hanckered after one, after last weeks little chat you've put me off! I think I'll go for the Rt instead. Great to meet you . Hope tractor is in fine fettle too
@keithwilliams4262 cheers Keith, was a great wee tour that wasn’t it, awesome to meet up with you too bud 👍
@teapotone yeah a great tour and I think a few of us will stay in touch I'm sure
How would you rate the K1600 against the R1250 RT?
@AdventureRockNRoller - RT is more comfortable a riding position for me personally, they’re both incredibly stable bikes and very easy to ride, and I love the speed and performance of the K1600… BUT I’d go for the RT and boxer engine as it’s way cheaper to service and maintain, plus I prefer the low down grunt more for road riding 👍
Another great review Bruce.
Question is, would you own one??
@mfpix - do I not answer that in the vid?
Ow do Bruce, top vid as ever. My bikes in for the suspension on the front telelever is that what’s gone on yours? Just wondering how common the repair is and if it is are they just putting a new unit on?
Cheers pal, hopefully see you in Wales 👍
Hello @moistdecoy
Yep that’s what went on mine, not sure if it’s a particularly common thing - I tend to not go on any forums etc and not heard of anyone else’s I know of 🤷♂️
@@teapotone cheers pal 👍
The perfect steed for when you need to get to Bratislava or Mumbai in a hurry but you'll need very tolerant knees and hips.
@stevelawrie9115 - I’d say that’s more down to the riders to be honest, I’ve ridden both and the Goldwing is noticeably better all round, and that’s the opinion shared by quite a few others I know who’ve ridden both 👍
Great video , 👍👍👍👍
Hi Bruce, what is the problem with your GS suspension ( I own a GS 1250 2022)
What is the inside joke with Nationals? Marc, Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦😉🏍
No inside joke bud, it’s just a saying I use.
Front shock failed on the GS after 50k miles
@@teapotone Fortunately I bought another 3 full year warranty…total 6 years! 😉🏍🇨🇦
Thanks.
@alexwright2368 - thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it, and yep I’d agree with you there about it not really knowing which it is 👍
Not my cup of tea just yet….but awesome bike mate, top video!!!
@TwoFourXharlie007 - cheers Simmo 👍
Be goldwing over that for sure, or Harley ultra 🤓😎🏍💨💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦🍻
It's an awful mistake (but also maybe a great compliment), that experienced testers so regularly compare this excellent GT bike to a flat out dedicated Tourer like the Goldwing. They are entirely different bikes with differing target audiences with likely VERY different riding styles. The RT is BMW's premium Tourer. :)
Interesting to compare the Gold wing with the K. Is the price a considerable consideration?
Rain modes: designed for the genteel rider.
The Goldwing is significantly more expensive as far as I’m aware. The one I had for test was around £32k, but it was fantastic to ride
🤣👍
Nice ultimate riding machine
Thankfully, my dealer told me I was not old enough for the K1600 😂 My banker is relieved 😅
Great review, as always 👍
@MichioKurata - 🤣👍
I've heard this is the spiritual successor to the Honda Blackbird, but this looks a lot more touring biased. Any thoughts on that?
Hi bruce, would you go for this over your gs for two up touring? Im 6'3 and 100kg but pillion comfort is essential for the wife.
@@teapotone thanks, I'll have to try both 👍
What a shock, best bike in the world needs warranty work. Will you ever live it down? (Sorry just couldn't resist teasing you.)
@willwye410 - it’s done over 50,000 miles in the last 3yrs so I’ve no issue that it needs work… but as always, it’s HOW the dealership deals with that issue which matters to me.
Hence why I stay with BMW for now, no other manufacturer comes close 😉
@@teapotone Agreed, I've just bought a BMW because of the warranty on their "approved used" bikes.
Yep I totally agree bud 👍
Great video. I prefer the K's to the boxers, as the K's are silky smooth to ride. I do have a boxer at the moment. The thing that's putting me off from buying this K is the weight !! It will be almost impossible to pick up or even push around. As for trying to 'reverse' it out of a gravel car park or something similar - dread to even think about that.😬🙄
If you are thinking about servicing costs at an authorised BMW dealership - speak to your bank manager first. 🤣😂.Motorcycle spares for ANY motorbikes/manufacturer have a rip-off mark-up of around 80%.
As motorcylists, we enjoy our riding, & turn a blind eye to these not-so-nice motorbike-related issues.
Enjoy3d this one tnx 😊
how did you tell problem on GS?
There was a knocking feeling and sound through the handlebars every time I went over a bump
