It's so nice to see a biker enjoying the business of riding a bike. When you're chuckling away to yourself in your helmet, you know life is good! Thanks for taking us along with you. Sorry the bike didn't suit you for comfort, but you don't know if you don't try? Ride safe and be well! 🙂

I’m only five foot seven (and a half) and I’ve fitted a cruiser bar and forward controls to my chief dark horse. Even at my height it was uncomfortable but these modifications made a massive difference to being able to use the bike all day.

I've just bought the Indian Chieftain Darkhorse. I traded it from a 2022 Honda Goldwing. It has the Thunderstroke 116 and it's an animal. You get a larger touchscreen and a better seat by far. Thriw a backrest on and your gonna be just fine. Oh it's also got twin disks.

  • @torryc
    @torryc 9 месяцев назад +4

I got the reduced reach bars for mine, and it made a big difference from stock. I’m 6’2”. I initially got cramped legs on long rides, but it gets more comfortable as your body and gets used to the riding position. Overall it’s a very comfortable ride. I would recommend swapping bars though if you’re a taller rider.

Owning a CDH since this summer and changed from the stock to a mid rise bar finally to a cruiser bar bc of the same experience (arms, shoulders). 😒 That made a HUGE difference.😍 Am about the same size/weight as you.
LOVE it now and it's really comfortable. If you have another chance with a cruiser bar installed give it a try. 😉
Thanks for the entertaining, honest clip.

Don't forget there's four Chief's to choose from, all the same bike with the same great engine gearbox and chassis but all configured a little differently. If you want dual front discs, more suspension travel, more cornering clearance, then check out the Sport Chief. If you want more ergonomic comfort than the base Chief, look at the Chief Bobber and if you want touring accommodations then look at the Super Chief Limited. Oh and don't forget to adjust the preload on the rear shock to suit your weight, the ride will greatly improve. ;)

Hey Teapot, maybe you should give the Chief Dark Horse Bobber a try. It has forward pegs and slightly raised handlebars which should help with the comfort. It also has spoked wheels if you're into that. If you wanna go all out on touring comfort, then the limited might be interesting.

  • @Paul-XS650

I fell head over heels for the Chief DH on a test ride and got one.
Before I picked it up, I got the shop to change to forward pegs and Cruiser bars. The bars are wider and further back.
At the first service I picked up a 'Comfort' seat. Looks almost the same, but went from 1/2hr to all day in comfort. I tried gel pad and sheep skin prior to that and nothing worked.
I find sport mode too aggressive for everyday riding, but it does make you grin, even better than the Vmax because its all torque and from tick over just about.
I love it, but not happy with the changes I had to make.
I'm now looking for mudguards that are worthy of the name that don't cost £1200 each!

With someone of your height, you can get the footpegs moved forward a little. That, and more relaxed jeans, would make it much more comfortable for you.
I've an Indian Scout Bobber, which is much less sophisticated, but is so much fun to ride. The Chief is a beast.
They are so much better than the Harley, especially at the pricepoint.
You can easily do 60mph in 3rd or 4th gear. 🙂

Those are mid-controls on the Chief Darkhorse. The Chief Bobber Darkhorse comes with forward-controls which would probably be more comfortable for you. Upgrading the shocks will put to rest any back issues. I also upgraded to a Comfort + solo seat. I can ride all day long and come home feeling fine. I even do some weekend touring on it. Don't worry, you can make the bike fit you! I have the bobber darkhorse by the way and it's the best!

I love this style of bike but I could never own one for the reason you mentioned about your knees being high. I rode the Harley 48 with the added forward controls and the dealer looked at me like I'd pissed in his cereal when I said its too small. Even the big road glide felt too awkward and cramped. These bikes all feel like they are designed for children... Or Tom Cruise.
The position is like sitting on a toilet with one of them little boosters for your feet so your kness are up round your ears. What really sealed rhe deal was when I saw myself in a shop window and i looked like i was riding 125cc, most guys over like 5'10 look absolutely ridiculous on cruisers... So I've still got my big old Africa Twin Adventure Sport.

It should have dual discs and at least 5 more degrees of lean, that would be resolved with better suspension. I changed the seat for the indian syndicate two up seat which provides a little lower back/bum support and that stopped the hanging on feeling. I think there are similar options with the chief dark horse. As for your cramped feeling im willing to bet that is a height and therefore leg length thing. Im six foot on the scout bobber and legs dont feel like they are up round my neck. Why dont you try the scout rogue, has the syndicate seat and slightly higher bars. May feel better

    Hi, tea pot
I wanted to comment today because I had a question I wanted to ask you.
I am Japanese and I want the bike you show in this video.
But I heard that Indian bikes are more fragile than Japanese bikes too.
So now I am hesitating to buy one.
Has your dark horse had any breakage so far?
Also, I would appreciate it if you could tell me which parts of Indian bikes are more fragile.
Japan is very warm and humid, so I don't think it would be a good match for an American Indian bike.
Would it be difficult to have a dark horse in Japan?
It is a very cool bike and I would like to have one someday.

Hi Bruce, enjoyed the video, it's a shame it was so uncomfortable for you, because after seeing so many riders of Harley's and Indians you only needed the waistcoat to be part of the chapter. Thank you.

This thing about people not wanting to say anything bad about Harleys, means they'll probably never improve.
It's O.K. to like flawed things and own up to it people. 🤣

Your knees are up because the seat is too low. It's not you jeans....its the ergonomics made for a 5' 5" person.

The ergonomics of the bike is uncomfortable. I don't like the mid controls. They should be forward controls with mini ape bars

you can always change the seat, adjust or replace the bars to suit your preference. To give something a bad mark that can be easily changed, and that many do as their first mod, is not fair to the bike. How many harley riders keep their factory seat or bars?
