Tech note: the rear cylinder deactivation is also for heat reduction, especially if you're spending a lot of time sitting at a stop light or in stop and go traffic with less air flowing over the motor. Love the bike, love the video!

I bought an Indian Chief Dark Horse recently. Love the bike. I also had my eye on the fat bob and lowrider s. My reason for buying the Indian is overall look and appeal to me. Plus the tech on the Indian is a nice addition. I like the indian straight out the gate and I'm not planning to do much more than upgrade the cams, exhaust and air cleaner, so this bike was up my alley. I can't deny Harley has bigger aftermarket support, but I am not after all that. If you're someone who is looking to go all out in customization, then Harley is the way to go. I'm sure in time Indian will have a bigger aftermarket support, but Harley takes the win in that department for now.
I come from almost 20 years of sportbike riding. I'm new to the world of cruisers, but what amazes me is the bashing from die hard Harley riders towards other brands, especially Indian. I love all bikes and makes. If I could afford it, I'd have many different styles and makes of bikes. What matters is, ride whatever you enjoy. We're all about the two wheeled life in the end. Hope I was able to help someone make a decision between the Harley and the Indian.

I think people also like the large community that HD has. Where I live there is a Triumph, Indian and HD dealership all next to each other.
I went the other day to check out all 3 dealerships. there was hardly anyone at the Triumph and Indian dealership.
Next door at the HD dealership there was around 200 people. They had a live band, bikini bike wash station and food vendors.
Me personally I prefer to ride alone, I ride a Honda Fury. And I agree with you who cares what you ride as long as you like it.

That’s the main reason I don’t like and won’t buy HD. That and the overcharging / lack of performance/ lack of engineering. I can’t stand the prejudiced HD owners. There’s one bike and bike company only, in their eyes .... Triumph and Indian are as old, and are better bikes in all areas too. I own both. Never had and never will have an HD.

indian will have a big after market support eventually. Indian is a new kid on the block, while harley is ingrained in the usa. It takes time for a new brand. For a new brand it does very well. Eventually there will be big after market for indian as well.

I just don’t know personally if the Dark horse is worth $2650 more than a Street Bob! I have some minor quirks with the Chief because it’s starts @ $17,499 it’s so much more comparable to the Low Rider S starts @ $17,530! But what I notice is Indian charges $500 for paint and Harley charges $450 but what really Boggles my mind is the after market for Indian! The Indian chief Dark horse should come with a stage 1 air intake and they list it at $549.99 or $579.99 and Harley gives those options standard on both the Street Bob and the Low Rider S

I own a street bob but I will admit the Indians are better machines. They don’t have the visceral feel of a dyna however. Even the softail street bobs don’t cut it. I like being shaken out of my seat at a stoplight. That’s something I would miss greatly. Chief is a very nice bike and wouldn’t mind riding one sometime

I own a 2022 Chief Bobber Dark Horse. With the exception of visible rear shocks and a tubular steel frame the Indian Chief is nothing like a Dyna. It is smooth, powerful, and loaded with modern technology. When the new Harley Softail lineup was presented in 2018 the Dyna line was discontinued. The decision was made in favor of bikes that feature better handling, faster acceleration, and lighter weight. But some Dyna fans have never gotten over it.

My opinion as a Eurotrash Brit who rides sports tourers is that I tentatively prefer the Chief range over the Softail range with the Bobber Dark Horse being the one I'd pick personally. The Indian design language just has a bit more flow and cohesion to my eyes. Not that I'd be upset with a Softail, they're still stunners. It may also help that the nearest Indian dealership is 30 minutes away and the nearest HD dealership an hour and a half away. I'm British, I'm not used to traveling an hour and a half to get somewhere.

I think for a local cruiser, it's still hard to beat a Harley. Indian really needed to get the sound and feel of a Roadking and they fall very short IMHO. The Super Chief has all the potential, but the stock exhaust is a bit of a joke to me. Not much better than my old Vsar 1100. LOL. It sounds almost the same! It's not wimpy, but it sure sounds very restricted! I guess maybe Chief is more focused towards longer rides/touring. Each to there own, but A Roadking feels like far more bike for the money! Chief might have an impressive 116 with 85hp, but it's like riding an electric bike with a fake engine noise to make you feel better about it. ;)

The only thing why myself and quite some other folk hasn’t pushed the trigger yet is due to the fact that polaris is sending out half-chromed bike as dark horse variants and leaves it to the dealerships to deal with it - resulting in wrong black tones, additional cost for the riders and so on. I have now seen CDH with Chrom heat shields, mufflers and cam covers!! That is a no-go #indianmotorcycle - this is going on for >6mo now and clearly there are industrial coating capacities left across the world - even in Europe - so it’s a cost 💲 topic for polaris I interprete…
Once the bikes are all blavk again I’ll place my order! Meanwhile I will wait for a LRS 117 to come into the stores for a test ride - let’s see how long polaris / #indianmotorcycles will take

It would definitely be a tough choice for me between that and the Street Bob. The mag wheels really made the street Bob More appealing. With that said I think a club style Chief Dark horse would be amazing.

The Streetbob might be cheaper on paper but when you guy buy it at a Harley Dealer they will upcharge you $5k to $8k for the having privilege of buying a Harley..... at the end the Indian Chief WILL be cheaper in the end.

Yea been trying to decide between a chief or street bob or softail … I feel like owning a few HD is in the past and then I quit riding I know they will fuck you at the dealership of your not on your game witch is sad

@@TheAnnoyingBossya they do have about 1-1.5K additional fee but its not nearly as bad as Harley and they’re friendly! May just be my experience with Harley but iv never been let down by Indian. “Woke” bs aside Harley has been on the same page for too long with nothing really new and definitely slacking on the tech side

I thinking picking up street bob make more sense. The chief & SB is built for the same kind of use and ride as per your review hence nothing extra or more mile you can do. The service network will be an issue if ever you tried long rides. The resale I’m not sure-how good the chief holds value. Indian has more tech means some day’s will be like scratching your head to understand what the new error code is as we all know how Harley bikes with less tech also gives troubles( for a short distance riding bike I don’t want the trouble). If I want tech then will think about something like BMW or Yamaha. So at less price I get a short distance SB ( maybe even a softail standard will do).

Let’s be honest here, you’re gonna lean towards buying a bike that a company placed in your garage for three months at no cost. And I don’t blame you! You’re killing it in the YT game, my dude and ruffling Indian’s feathers since you have a relationship with them wouldn’t be the best strategic move for the channel. If we’re breaking this down and if technology was a deciding factor, Indian would be the choice over all HD models, including the beloved LRS. The majority of their flagship bikes have ride modes, navi and led lighting. Hell, even the challenger comes with inverted forks 🤷🏼‍♂️ And as far as tank size, we’re talking a .5 gallon. So what’re we really talking about? And for the $$$, you can spend another $1k on a SB and put a softail slim, LRS or heritage tank on and get better gas mileage. And, the customization in Harleys space is light years ahead of Indian. But I’ll say this, I’m a big fan of the bikes that Indian is putting out - especially the chief - I mean, have you heard a clip of it with a 2-1 on? It’s gnarly! And lastly, as far as fit and finish, we know who wins in that category as well. Keep these great videos coming bruh!

As far as fit and finish yes Harley has it all day. Harley has loaned me bikes to in the past. I’ve liked this bike from day one it’s a great choice. With that being said this was only in comparison to a Sb …. I wouldn’t choice this bike over a low rider s

Hm tough one - I honestly have been on a lot of bikes and the quality of Indian when it comes to „piece in mind while riding“ is way ahead of the clunky Softail models I find. The only fit and finish downside i found was the plastic stripe in the middle of the tank which I prefer at Hds - it’s simply more quality there. I’d I had to chose - and I do these days - I’d go for the chief bobber. However, If you’re plannign to fully customize your bike I’d probably go for a fat boy or so as custom parts on Germany cost a fortune for the Indian (you’re looking at €50k for a customized Chief here).

If Indian is so good why haven't you bought one?We know Harley is better especially once you start modding alot of power to be had in the M8 for 2000 get a cam and run circles around that bike for the same money.

Been watching you kid since the 883 days. I know you a big shot now,but to even ask if an Indian compares to a dyna street bob is laughable. A soft tail bob maybe. But they will never make an Indian that compares favorable to the blessed........
