Did your version not have Baxter's subtitles? Those are the best.
Baxter: Leave these people alone. They mean you no harm.
Bear: We Bears are a proud race. They must pay for their intrusion.
Baxter: On my journey I met one of your kind. His name was Katow-jo. We became friends.
Bear: Katow-jo is my cousin. Go in peace.
Baxter: I will tell tales of your compassion.
Bear: Fare thee well, Baxter. You shall always be friend of the bears.

I recognise these subs but don’t remember seeing them in my last watch. For me it’s due to the fact that I watched a pirated version, the app always misses out any subtitles for most movies unless their turned on.

I started running studio camera in a newsroom in the late 70's while I was in college and this movie brings back so many memories. Sometimes it's closer to real life than you might think. We had our male anchor and our sports anchor get in argument one night about something just before the final sign off story, and after they said good night with big smiles, they went to the newsroom and started beating the shit out of each other. Same anchorman got caught in a strip club one night and caused a local scandal, and a different anchor one night didn't say his name in the open because it was blank on the teleprompter. Good times.

I was studying journalism and some lecturers shared a few similar stories, including cameraman lowering his pants just to fuck around with the female newslady while she was making an interview. I think it was either an interview that was included in the special features or I seen somewhere later(maybe around ELF's release) that Will Ferrell is a big fan of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and his performance of Ron Burgundy was inspired by Ted Knight's Ted Baxter character off the show(Ron's dog Baxter was also named after the character). So yes Simone you are right in thinking of MTM show with the whole 70's setting.

the toilet store joke i heard on Psych makes sense now. Shawn Spencer was looking to return insult someone and he stuttered and said: "where'd you get the suit the toilet store?" I never got the joke or reference until 10+ years later. ty.

I see Simone and myself seem to have a similar taste in music. Since the rock scene in the US is. . .mostly dead, or at least in a coma, I'm wondering if you have delved into the Japanese scene. It's amazing. So many talented bands, and most of them are all female. Here's a couple of suggestions - BAND-MAID, Gacharic Spin, Trident, Hanabie, LOVEBITES. BAND-MAID is my favorite, and have the widest sound, covering several genres from rock, punk, metal and pop. Check out the songs 'Dice', 'Domination', 'Endless Story', and their latest 'Unleash!!!!!'. Cheers!

They say life imitates art. So, now, in actual real life, someone is reading whatever someone puts on the teleprompter. If it wasn't so sad and terrifying it'd be hilarious.

Y’all should give Anchorman 2 a try. They definitely noticed how well Steve Carell did as Brick and leaned into it even harder. It’s not a perfect sequel, but it’s still pretty damn funny.

Very interesting....when I saw the 2x2x2 "Rubik's" cube, I just had to look it up and prove to myself that it wasn't even invented yet, since Erno Rubik invented the 3x3x3 cube in 1974. Very surprised to find out the 2x2 was invented in 1970 by Larry D. Nicholas, so GOOD JOB MOVIE!

This is my favorite comedy. It's just bizarrely chaotic, nonstop non-sequitur goodness that I watch again and again.

Hey Simone and George, great reaction! If you want another good period comedy with production from Judd Apatow, I would highly recommend also checking out Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, with John C. Reilly. It's a parody of music biopics like Walk the Line and Ray. It's got a great cast, great jokes, and even some really good original music. And Chris Parnell is in that one, too.

My friend had the edition of the movie where they managed to make an alternate version where there was a terrorist sub plot but they dropped it. It's been awhile since I saw it but my main memory was that it made the story a bit more serious than silly but it's been over a decade since I saw it

Simone's laugh is so infectious and cute but when George starts laughing and leaning back I cannot help but actually laugh out loud with him. Fun stuff to experience all these movies in such a weird way.
