That "mystery clip" was a clip from Smokey and The Bandit (starring Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields). One of the first movies to show the bloopers during the credits.
@@fannybusterthe cheese gave him lots of gas, which kept him buoyant until Ron blew the horn, which caused a harmonic vibration in the gas...making him fart it out. This activated his vagus nerve reflex, restarting his heart and allowed him to wake up and swim to shore with normal buoyancy.
I’ve watched this movie SO many times that I used to know every single line in the movie. It was hugely influential on my style of humor. I love this movie so much, it’s my favorite movie other than Animal House and Titanic. The absolute chokehold this had on me as a 7th grader is crazy. I even named my red car Ron Burgundy once I got a car so I could drive to college so it’s definitely stuck around in my mind years later. I can’t believe this movie is 20 years old now 😩😅 I still remember watching it every weekend with my bf at the time and reciting the whole thing with him. Happy times with this movie 🥰
I think my favorite part is when Ron is having a normal conversation with Baxter after he met Veronica for the first time, because I know that I also have deep conversations with my dog like that, as well.
The joke about Brick serving in the Bush Administration would later receive a fantastic follow-through when Adam McKay (director of Anchorman) cast Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld in the Dick Cheny biopic "VICE". Also shows the range of McKay's work, doing everything from fun-dumb comedies like "Anchorman", "Step Brothers" and "Talladega Nights" to covering more serious topics like the 2008 banking crisis, the effects of Dick Cheney's career on American politics and the dangers of scientific skepticism.
In the original script the title was "NEWS ANCHORS vs APES" and it was absolutely insane and even more crazy than the movie we got. It was a survival parody where, on the way to a news anchor convention, Ron Burgondy convinces the pilot that he can fly the plane but then almost immidiately crashes in to a nearby cargo plane that was filled with monkeys and throwing stars. Stranded on top of a mountain the news anchors have to fight off and survive the vicious monkeys that are armed with ninja throwing stars, while trying to make it off the mountain. It was deemed too bizarre to make by the studio but they loved the character of Ron Burgondy and the script was reworked in to the Anchorman.
@@bigdream_dreambigOh yes i know but it's absolutely true :) Both Will Farrell and Paul Rudd have spoken about it in interviews and there are some clips here on YT of them talking about reading/working on the original script and the pitch to the studio executives.
The kid you thought did a good job at 25:00 is Pearl, the daughter of Anchorman director Adam McKay. And, if you think she's good here, you should see an even younger Pearl starring opposite Will Ferrell in the short films "The Landlord" and "Good Cop, Baby Cop". Absolutely hysterical.
These 5 comedic actors may have been the greatest ensemble ever, and I love this movie. Rudd, Koechner, Carell and Farrell improv-ing most of the dialogue was brilliant - but also, Christina Applegate is one of the all-timers. She has great comedic timing, but also plays the perfect 'straight-man' for the other 4 goofballs to play off (along with being even easier on the eyes than Paul Rudd and his 70's mustache undeniably are). I've been a fan of hers for about as long as I can remember.
Great reaction Addie, i love this movie its hilarious. Adam McKay was a writer on SNL at the same time that Will Ferrel was a cast member. Adam’s most successful sketches on the show were the ones with Will, and Will’s most successful sketches were the ones written by Adam (usually cowritten by Will). They both left SNL around the same time, and so started working together on movies…becoming a kind of director/actor writing duo. A lot of younger people don't get the reference, but Ron's Dog's was named after Ted Baxter. Ted was a fictional idiotic obnoxious news anchor from the old Mary Tyler Moore Show a sitcom back in the 70's. Poor Christina Applegate is in terrible health these days, and it’s really sad because she seems so sweet. Keep up the good work.
Worst thing to ever happen to comedy was someone telling Adam McKay "You shouldn't do hilarious movies anymore, make art that matters. Like dramedies without wit, full of stacked casts and heavy-handed social commentary." No,but the guy made several of the funniest movies made, his foray into drama hasn't been close to as rewarding...for viewers.
@@christofferjenzen78 I think McKay definitely excels in comedy, but I also think The Big Short is pretty great and strikes the right balance. Its funny at times, serious at others, and not too pretentious. His more recent stuff, on the other hand...idk, hard for me to judge.
The one blooper with actors you didn't recognize was from the Burt Reynolds movie SMOKEY AND THE BANDITS, which was the fist movie I remember putting a blooper reel into the end credits.
I’ve seen this movie over 30 times. Know every line. I’m ever back in the DVD days when I would watch it with people they hated me because I would say lines about three minutes in advance when a new scene popped up
Hey Addie! Great reaction! I'm so glad you liked this movie. This is my all time fave comedy for sure. Part is good...can't touch the first but still funny.
Addie acting like she could resist the power of the mustache! Ron's mustache is mightier than Hercules! Also, I do recommend the sequel. Whilst I prefer the first, the second one is still fun in my opinion.
I saw this in theaters and I still can't believe when the Anchor street fight was happening and all the cameos were happening I tapped my friend on the shoulder and said "Watch Ben Stiller is gonna pop out of the bushes...AND THERE HE WAS!!!! Wait until you see what happens in Anchorman 2!
The blooper of Burt Reynolds was from SMOKEY & THE BANDIT (which you s/check out) and was one of the first films to have end credit bloopers so this is a nod/tribute.
The cast is so stacked that a lot of reactors don't even notice that the cameraman at the zoo is Seth Rogen. It's a tiny role with no punchlines, and he obviously wasn't super duper famous yet.
Christina Applegate is the dream girl of every man born in America between the early 70s and the early 80s. No matter how old she gets, I will always worship Kelly Bundy.
Sure, there's Anchorman 2, but there's also Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie! It was released straight-to-DVD at the same time as the first film, and it's essentially a movie made out of the storyline they dropped for the panda birth story. The rest of the film is filled in with alternate takes and line readings and given a new voice-over narration. I really want to see somebody react to this, since it's such a unique film!
That blooper of Smokey and the Bandit was a little nod I believe that director Hal Nedhan and Burt Reynolds were the first to put outtakes at the end of Burt's films.
Brick - "I stabbed a man in the heart." Ron - "I saw that. Brick killed a guy! Did you throw a trident?" Brick - "Yeah, there were horses and a man on fire and I killed a guy with a trident." Ron - "Brick I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should probably find somewhere to stay, maybe with a friend or a relative. Lay low for a while because you're probably wanted for murder." Best bit of the movie for me. 60% of the time it slays me every time! 🤣
Glad you liked it, it's one of my favorite comedies, it's so ridiculous but unique and original.. yeah Baxter is the best haha.. I didn't really like the sequel but it was awhile ago..
31:42 "Brick went on to be one of the top political advisor's in the Bush Whitehouse." Well, Stev Carrel did play Bush's Secretary of Defence in the 2018 film "Vice", so that predication sort of was true. Fortunately, David Koechner has never been accused of sexually harassing any 4 time Superbowl winning quarterbacks.
The sequel is definitely worth a watch too! Some of it feels like overdoing what worked here, but there is so much in Anchorman 2 that levels me flat every time!
