There are a number of reasons why they push the car. One being to avoid the car being stalled (which causes stresses on certain parts of the car). Also it keeps the running hours on the engines to a minimum, thus minimizing the chances of parts wearing out mid-race. The engines usually only last about 1000 miles, and are some pretty extreme examples of what can be done on that engine configuration. So, every tiny bit that you can save is a positive. Racing at the highest level of any given Motorsport is an exercise in extremes, so teams do whatever they can to gain an edge, or prevent themselves from losing an edge
They're also loud AF and I feel like having cars idling out to pit road all morning would have some effect on pre race ceremonies and kind of take away from the start your engines command before the race starts.
@@rdlangston13that and especially these cars (not so much now since they are fuel injected) they wouldn’t even let off of the gas pedal for a lot of the plate tracks they do what’s called dragging breaks because the strain on the engine to lift off the gas would buring the injectors and pistons up. These cars are not meant to be ran anything but full throttle. Even at Bristol they would set the rev limiter lower so they could still run “full throttle”
idk about now adays but in the past the first gear ratio was set to very high top speed ratios, they would even push the car out of the pits and (just guessing here) maybe its why they did rolling starts? i think nascar needs to have a bit more respect, top speed racing close to other cars is pretty intense, its just a different thing than formula one

The ads on the cars aren't dramatized (Until Ricky sells the windshield to Fig Newton, lmao). But the ads you see on the cars are what you would see if you turned on any NASCAR race today. The sponsors pay BIG bucks to buy space on the vehicle. The larger the space, the more money they contribute. You'll also see vehicles that are completely branded for one particular sponsor with smaller sponsors having small stickers all around the car. Danica Patrick drove a car completely wrapped in a lime green "Go Daddy" logo. There are cars sponsored by Home Depot, Budweiser, Busch, and plenty more companies.
I had two WoW accounts and I used keyclone so that one button press registered on both characters (so if one mage cast fireball the other one would too... it's called multiboxing). Because of this movie, I had two shamans named Shake and Bake. We would just stand in a field of totems and dance.
I was in the army with a guy who raced cars, and the meticulous attention to detail they pay to those engines is intense. In his spare time, he would crunch numbers on how to get the most performance out of every drop of fuel, trying to determine the precise amount of fuel to get the best performance versus weight. There is some very serious engineering going on in that sport. I'm going to vote for "The Patriot" as the most American movie you have seen, or maybe "National Lampoon's Vacation".
Just by the thumbnail, George outdid himself. Not only the edit, but the perfect photos op blend of himself and the legendary John C Riley. Good times!
The most "rah rah America" movie that's not a war movie or a parody would be either "Miracle" about the Miracle on Ice or "The Right Stuff" about the space race. IMO.
The announcers were Larry McReynolds, Darrell Waltrip and Mike Joy...former Fox NASCAR commentators. The driver that came up and asked for his autograph was the famous Dale Earnhardt Jr. NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray was also in this.

This from a period of about two years when Amy Adams was past 30 and finally getting into A-list movies in supporting roles, but Hollywood still hadn't realized she should be starring in them. Charlie Wilson's War (2007, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts) is another one she was in and it's worth a watch - it's a ridiculous true story about how the U.S. got into Afghanistan to oppose the Soviets in the 80's.

The follow-up to this was Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Such a scathing deconstruction of the oscarbait musical biopic genre's tropes that they stopped making them for a decade.
For most absurdly American movie I was going to say Independence Day for the trope of the American military saving the world but then I remembered Mars Attacks which is essentially the absurd comedy version of the same basic concept and you two DEFINITELY should check it out..
In my career as an actor I was lucky enough to work with John C. Reilly (on Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) and Will Ferrell on Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. They were both great to work with. Will Ferrell improvised most of his dialogue.
Favorite will ferrell movie ever not even exaggerating. It’s funny cause I literally just watched this last night and now I get on RUclips and you guys reacted to it🤣💪🏼💪🏼. Great reaction
Funny thing about the ads, many of the time the adspace scheme becomes as much of the car's legacy as the car and driver itself. For instance, the Calsonic GTR r32, the Kmart V8 Supercar that did the lap of the Gods at Bathurst, Dale Earnhardt's black Goodyear #3, it goes on. Funny how that works.
24:58 Those cars are not normal driving machines. They’re tuned to racing. Fast starts, faster top speeds, and once the accelerator is pressed, the car is gonna go fast. They’re not exactly street legal, either. They may be called “stock cars,” but the name is misleading, as there’s nothing stock about them. The point I’m trying to make is, unless you’re prepared to go very quickly, and have properly angled track to assist with turning, hitting the start switches is an unsafe, illegal, and all around dumb idea. Push the car to its spot in line, hit the switches, stay in place behind the pace car, and then triple your speed once the race starts. That’s the one formula for stock car racing.
“Taladeega nights” lol you are definitely Canadian but I have nothing but love for our neighbors to the north, been there more times than I can count. You guys rock!
25:01 The reasons the push the cars include protecting the clutch, preventing stalling, it helps prevent wheelspin, protecting the drivetrain, noise reduction, preventing engine heat and saving gas, and Symbolism.
12:31 Yep, its fire thats fueled by methanol, which some race cars use as fuel. It burns with a transparent flame. There have been incidents where one caught fire. You can find footage of one on RUclips, its pretty scary, one crew guy caught aflame and for a long while people couldn't tell he was on fire.
Talladeegah... huh? oh wait.. Canadian.. it's fine..😏 also.. regarding invisible fire.. it's from Methanol fuel. The footage you are thinking of is from the 1981 Indy 500
One of my friends parents was at the race where they shot the movie (2005 UAW Ford 500 at Talladega I believe), and the part where Ricky and Jean Girard kissed was filmed in front of the crowd. Everybody booed that part of filming and the director told everybody “this was part of the movie, y’all gotta cheer!” Having this movie filmed in my backyard (I live near Talladega Superspeedway) is a dream come true! I even read where someone said they made the movie to make fun of NASCAR fans and southerners, instead, it elevated the sport to a maximum.
I am so glad you guys saw this movie, it's my favorite Will Ferrell movie. There are so many one liners, that my friends and I use to this day. Now, to get the "save me Tom Cruise" reference you have to watch Days of Thunder 👍
Ferrell and Reilly went on the Larry King Show in character and it was pretty fantastic... They even took calls from real drivers and talked trash to them!!! It's Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr on Larry King if you want a laugh.
My friends and i still quote this movie a hell of a lot to this day. Weve even, on occasion, forgot that a reference we make constantly came from this.
Not even remotely an exaggeration of ads on cars and driver's suits. And they can be seen and read quite well on television, or when they're on safety laps.
I'm throwing a movie suggestion out there: "Miracle", starring Kurt Russell. It's the greatest sports movie ever and is based on a true story about the 1980 U.S.A. hockey team. The pregame locker room speech before the big game is EPIC. You'd have to try and keep as much of it unedited as possible. You won't be disappointed.
That win by the U.S. team is so over-mythologized. The U.S. basically played incredibly dirty and injured some of the Soviets teams biggest stars. And then in the revenge games in '81 Canada Cup and '82 World Championships they lost both of them handily. Someone really should turn that Red Army/Russian Five story into a movie of it's own, probably following Larianov and Fetisov's life stories. Maybe some day when the Russians stop being the absolute worst on the world stage. Ah well.
@johanjarvinen Every team is guilty of playing dirty at some point, and nobody has ever made that claim as far as I know. Even if it is true, that team still had no business beating them. Going from losing 8 or 9 to 1 the week before and beating a machine like that Russian team was should have been nothing short of impossible. That includes if a couple of stars were banged up or injured.
"I'm on fire" will forever be one of the funniest scene to me and I feel really bad since now I know the horrors of methanol fire. Yet goddamn it it's fricking Will Ferrell begging for various deities to save him I can't help it lmao

The bloopers for this movie are incredible
I had two WoW accounts and I used keyclone so that one button press registered on both characters (so if one mage cast fireball the other one would too... it's called multiboxing). Because of this movie, I had two shamans named Shake and Bake. We would just stand in a field of totems and dance.
Hahahahaha
Lol and then an evil French wizard comes along all What is this Shake and Bake it is meaningless!
All his sports movies are gold. This blades of glory, my favorite semi-pro
My favorite thumbnail yet. I like and respect the fact that you don't reuse the same old tired thumbnails like a lot of people do.
Just by the thumbnail, George outdid himself. Not only the edit, but the perfect photos op blend of himself and the legendary John C Riley. Good times!
john c riley and will ferrell combo is just so amazingly hillarious
The most "rah rah America" movie that's not a war movie or a parody would be either "Miracle" about the Miracle on Ice or "The Right Stuff" about the space race. IMO.
Maybe Rocky 4.
That interview after the first race is priceless!
This is not even close to an exaggeration of ads. They are all over the place, even on their firesuits.
The windshield sticker is really the only exaggeration for comedic effect
The announcers were Larry McReynolds, Darrell Waltrip and Mike Joy...former Fox NASCAR commentators. The driver that came up and asked for his autograph was the famous Dale Earnhardt Jr. NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray was also in this.
Yes that man that that asked ricky for an autograph is Dale Earnhardt Jr, son of the legendary Dale Earnhardt. The NASCAR announcers, to the one giving Ricky the interview in the beginning, they’re all real nascar team members
😂😂 automatic thumbs up!!😂😂 and can we acknowledge how great of an actor John C. Reiley is. He has shown he can do it all time and time again.
My daughter went to school w the little red headed kid. She said he never let fame get to him. He was in sever other movies all through school. And his southern accent is real. He talks just like he did in the movie.
George's face is hilarious in the thumbnail 😂
Lol how does his head perfectly fit John C Reilly
No matter what role, Amy Adams goes for it 100%. My current pick for the actor of "how the hell do they not have an Oscar yet?"
"Don't you EVER....fart on my tits again"
yeah, the ads on the car is not an exaggeration, those are the sponsors that help pay to keep the cars in shape.
and Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP)... was taken away from us far too soon! serious roles, comedic roles, he was just phenomenal with his craft!
_"I'm as hard as a diamond in an ice storm"_
That was so sweet and heartfelt I got kinda misty in the eyes.
Fun fact: John C. Reilly was also in Days of Thunder.
Lol a movie so pro America they wanted everyone on earth to celebrate July 4th
"I spread my butt cheeks as Mike Honcho" was said in every junior high in 2006
Reese Bobby selling the tickets is my absolute favorite thing about the entire movie.
I'm so proud of Simone. Even in the dark, she managed a "Woo"
In my career as an actor I was lucky enough to work with John C. Reilly (on Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) and Will Ferrell on Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. They were both great to work with. Will Ferrell improvised most of his dialogue.
Dude i would love to hear how the set of jay and bob was??
Favorite will ferrell movie ever not even exaggerating. It’s funny cause I literally just watched this last night and now I get on RUclips and you guys reacted to it🤣💪🏼💪🏼. Great reaction
Funny thing about the ads, many of the time the adspace scheme becomes as much of the car's legacy as the car and driver itself. For instance, the Calsonic GTR r32, the Kmart V8 Supercar that did the lap of the Gods at Bathurst, Dale Earnhardt's black Goodyear #3, it goes on. Funny how that works.
yes that dude asking for the autograph was Dale Earnhardt Jr. One of the best of all time and especially during that time.
When this movie was being pitched to the studio, the entire pitch as four words, "Will Farrell in NASCAR."
The cut back to the studio with the jaw-agape sportscaster after the piece on the new driver makes me laugh so hard my fingertips get numb....
Seriously, this is your best thumbnail ever.
This video has one of the best thumbnails you guys have done so far 😄. The face swaps are almost seamless. My compliments to the chef!
Talladeegah... huh? oh wait.. Canadian.. it's fine..😏
also.. regarding invisible fire.. it's from Methanol fuel. The footage you are thinking of is from the 1981 Indy 500
One of my friends parents was at the race where they shot the movie (2005 UAW Ford 500 at Talladega I believe), and the part where Ricky and Jean Girard kissed was filmed in front of the crowd. Everybody booed that part of filming and the director told everybody “this was part of the movie, y’all gotta cheer!”
Having this movie filmed in my backyard (I live near Talladega Superspeedway) is a dream come true!
I even read where someone said they made the movie to make fun of NASCAR fans and southerners, instead, it elevated the sport to a maximum.
This is one if my favorite Will Ferrell movies. Seen it so much since I was a kid.
This in my opinion, is One of Will ferrells most iconic films
I am so glad you guys saw this movie, it's my favorite Will Ferrell movie. There are so many one liners, that my friends and I use to this day.
Now, to get the "save me Tom Cruise" reference you have to watch Days of Thunder 👍
Ferrell and Reilly went on the Larry King Show in character and it was pretty fantastic... They even took calls from real drivers and talked trash to them!!!
It's Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr on Larry King if you want a laugh.
The advertisements on the car, besides the windshield ad, and the advertisements on the suits are pretty accurate to real life.
My friends and i still quote this movie a hell of a lot to this day. Weve even, on occasion, forgot that a reference we make constantly came from this.
This is Will Ferrell’s best movie ever. You can’t change my mind.
20:23 yes this movie came out before "Karen"
"What does America taste like?" Hot dogs and gunpowder, probably. I dunno, I'm Australian.
Not even remotely an exaggeration of ads on cars and driver's suits. And they can be seen and read quite well on television, or when they're on safety laps.
Only the wonder bread windshield sticker was exaggerated
This is one of the stupidly funny movies ever, I love the will Ferrell john c riley dynamic in everything (yes I even loved Holmes and Watson)
John C. Riley is HILARIOUS in Walk Hard
one of my favorite lines is from glen "peaches and creme!"
Ethanol fires are almost basically invisible. So, yeah, there are a few things that can actually lead to invisible fire.
One of my favorite Will Ferrell movies this and Step Brothers are hilarious
0:57 Fun fact: not only is there a colon in the title, there is also one in my body!
Is it still there?
Guys....this was comedy gold!! Thanks for that. This is one of my favorites of Will. Of course you guys were awesome as always..
Outside of the original Anchorman, this is my favorite Will Farrell movie, so quotable.😂
The US team injured Soviet players? Which ones? In which games?
@@johanjarvinenIf you want to talk about dirty games let’s talk about the Soviets colluding refs during the 1972 Olympic basketball gold metal game
@@matthewhetzler4912 Yah, like I said in my post above, that's news to me as well. Maybe just a sore loser?
"Rrickee Boobeee, I watched ze Highlander movie. Eet WAS SHEEET!!!!!!!". LOVE that line.
Ngl, the picture of you two at the beginning is fabulous lol😂
"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" should be on your watch list, it another ridiculous comedy like this.
"I'm on fire" will forever be one of the funniest scene to me and I feel really bad since now I know the horrors of methanol fire. Yet goddamn it it's fricking Will Ferrell begging for various deities to save him I can't help it lmao
Adam Mckay was the SNL Head Writer when Will Ferrell was on there. Since then they became writing buddies. The scripts they make Will stars in them and Adam Directs. Adam Mckay in order did Anchroman, this, Step Brothers, The Other Guys and Anchorman 2. This one was the only one I didn't really like. The others are Gold. Do those!
