The late film critic Roger Ebert said he laughed so hard at the scene with the dead parakeet's head tapped on that he thought he was going to need to be hospitalized. Dumb and Dumber, to me, is film one of the Holy Trinity of Farrelly Bros films: Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and There's Something About Mary.
Regarding the ending: the original script had it so that Lloyd and Harry would go with the swimsuit models, giving them a happy ending of sorts. Jim Carrey refused, saying that their characters would be too stupid to accept the offer. The Farrelly Brothers agreed, and we got this ending instead. It fits far better imo.
I'm confused. That was the smartest decision they made in the whole movie. Clearly that was a cult of Satanists intent on sacrificing them. You think buses full of bikini models just go around offering random men on the side of the road a job like that?
I wish they mentioned that in the sequel's end. "Hey Harry, why didn't we go with those girls on the bus?" "...Ehh, they weren't lookin for guys like us"
The Farrelly brothers wanted Jeff Daniels to play opposite Jim Carey and were extremely adamant about it. The studio did not like the idea of him in that role and came up with a scheme they figured would shut down the brothers' choice of actor. They set a limit of $50,000.00 to offer Daniels, assuming he would turn it down because of how small a paycheck it was (for him, at that time). Daniels happily accepted the offer and jumped at the chance to act with Carey.

Thanks for doing this movie, it's a comedy classic. The Farrelly Brothers also did a movie call King Pin with Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray which is definitely worth a viewing.
Clint Eastwood approached Daniels at some charity golf tournament and told him he absolutely loved the movie - and that he had had that exact situation (minus the laxative poisoning :D ) happen to him on a date..
I love that you can hear Jim Carrey's Canadian accent in some of his dialogue. Also he was married to Mary in real life, the chipped tooth is real and they really annoyed the bad guy they picked up in there dogmobile. Him screaming at them was real. Lol
Jim Carrey actually chipped his tooth on the run up to filming the movie, but decided not to fix it until after they wrapped as he felt it suited the character Edit: he chipped it when he was young, and had the cap removed for the role
@@DKSean yes, he broke his tooth when he was a kid. He was in detention at school and him and his friend were horsing around his friend did a cannon ball on his head and his tooth hit the desk and it chipped it

Dumb & Dumber was super popular movie back in the day. When it came out every kid in school was talking about it for a long time after the release. The teachers at school decided to let us watch it at the end of the day once. That was first and only time this happen so you can imagine how popular Dumb & Dumber was.
I used to love watching Conan whenever Jeff Daniels was on the show promoting whatever movie he was fixing to be in. Whatever the project, no matter how serious, Conan would always pitch it, then cut to the Jeff Daniels bathroom scene in this movie. Lol
@@justindenney-hall5875 to me, There's something about Mary is lighthearted fun. A dark comedy IMO would be "Very Bad Things" with Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz. Maybe you should watch that first and compare it tonally to this movie.
I recently rewatched Jim Carrey in Man on the Moon, the biopic about the comedian Andy Kaufman, could be his best performance. Definitely worth a watch.

You TWO had WAY too much fun while watching this movie. And I LOVED it!!! Fun fact: Jim Carrey's big year was 1994, which saw the releases of three of his biggest films in the 1990s: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber.
WOW! This is the first time I've noticed that the hotel Harry and Lloyd stay at in Aspen is the Stanley Hotel. Stephen King stayed in the same hotel and was inspired to write "The Shining."
I interviewed Jeff Daniels before he played a virtual acoustic concert for Kansas State University. Very creative and down to earth guy. He said this movie changed his life in so many ways.
You just can't contain a guy like Jim! Many of his best scenes are improvised and memorable lines are often completely spontaneous. Remember the "most annoying sound in the world" from this film? You could probably tell this wasn't in the script by the genuinely horrified look on Jeff Daniel's face as Jim leans over and lets him hear it. It was off the cuff in typical Carrey style. And in the bar scene in Aspen, the line "No way... that's great. We've landed on the moon!" was also made up by Jim right on the spot when he saw the framed newspaper. Some say Jim hasn't taken any dramatic roles lately due to the poor box-office performance of his previous ones. But apparently, he will only perform in a movie that has a completely positive message. He has struggled with depression, and due to his own personal belief system doesn't want to project anything negative.
I remember seeing this in the theater and the for the entire runtime, all you heard was non stop laughter From the open scene, all the way to the closing credits. Our faces were hurting by the time it was over. Like The Jerk, National Lampoon's Vacation, Ghostbusters or Step Brothers, this is one of the most re-watchable comedies of all time.
For people my age this is our baseline for Jeff Daniels. This was the first we had ever heard of him and though “stupid comedy” was his thing. Everyone was shocked to see him in Speed playing a regular role. Still to this day when I see him in serious roles I’m surprised.
@@thebluecollarbibleguy5114 yeah, I understand 🙂 Fun fact: the studio didn’t want Daniels at first, because they didn’t see him as a comedian 😉 the only reason he was in the movie was because of Jim Carrey. He wanted Jeff Daniels and fought to keep him in the movie
Okay, so I will say with this movie you watched the extended cut, which is the worse of the two versions (extended and theatrical) because the extra scenes or extra dialogue in scenes kind of throw the flow off in the movie or the extra lines just seem misplaced. Even tho you are watching the lesser of the versions, still glad y'all are watching.
Honestly, it's worse than that. Harry and Lloyd come off as way more mean-spirited than they do in the theatrical cut. I don't get why the extended version seems to be the prominent version nowadays.
@@trentb3148 probably because 99% of the time people tend to recommend the uncut or extended versions of movies in general so I think people often opt for them by default now
This was a great reaction, double stamp it no erasies, touch blue make it true. The snowball fight is still one of my favorite parts. She tosses some loose snow at him and he just ASSAULTS her lol.
One of my favorite movies. Makes me laugh no matter how many times I’ve seen it. I’ve never seen the sequel to this movie which is actually a prequel or something that is set before this movie, but the 2nd one that takes place 20 years later with Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels returning as Lloyd and Harry is worth a watch.
The 'most annoying noise' scene was improvised. Just watch it back and keep an eye on Jeff Daniels cracking up. Makes it even funnier to know he was corpsing badly
I loved the whole movie, one of the best comedies, especially that one in a million scene and ironically Jim Carrey and the actress did date in real life and also a funny story about the toilet scene that Jeff has told Is that after the films release he was in a golf tournament and crazy enough Clint Eastwood, of all celebrities him, who was also there came up to Jeff and complimented him on that scene in particular and told him that he was in tears in the theater and said it was the most hilarious thing that he's ever seen and it was because Clint went through a similar situation in real life, on a first date with a girl and had to use her bathroom, used it but the toilet was broken, you can't make that up, that's just amazing 🤣😂
My mom, who was always stoic and not one for frivolous things, absolutely loved this movie. I was utterly destroyed when my dad told me it was her favorite movie. She watched it every year right up to the day she died. I also discovered she liked dirty jokes and being the gay son, was the only one who could get away with making her laugh. I loved her dirty laugh when she would try to hide it. I was also the only one who could get her to smile for a photo because there was always the threat I would say something untoward. All I had to do was give her ‘the look” and she would giggle. Best photos of her ever.
You should also check out "Strange Brew" starring Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) Mackenzie. It is a movie from the early eighties filmed in Toronto. They are the original Hosers. There are many Canadian references.
You guys must be watching the director's cut because 28 ago this movie came out and I don't remember him listening in to the wall for the people having sex next door or the waitress blowing bubbles into Jeff Daniels drink these were deleted scenes that did not make it to the final cut back in 1994
This is like the extended cut or something. Some small parts were added that weren't in the original version, like "squeeze the lemon," showing the spit going onto the burger, Harry picking up the toilet, Lloyd listening through the wall in the hotel, the bathroom stall guy having lines instead of just smiling.
The crying throw up scene I always took it as Jim Carey character being over dramatic, you see him fantasize scenes in his head all the the time. So like in a soap operas when the character is so shocked they pass out or throw up from the shock, so is Lloyds character, thats what makes me crack up.
As someone who has caught someone cheating I can say the wanting to throw up is real. Literally makes you sick to your stomach . In fact I couldn't stomach eating for like a week I had 0 appetite.
It was pretty good the way Carey oscillated between wanting to bawl his eyes out and wanting to throw up. One could say he was heartbroken by the betrayal, then disgusted at the same time. He reminded me of a cat with a hairball.
Fun fact: Although film-critic, Roger Ebert was lukewarm on the movie; he confessed the dead-parakeet joke made him laugh so hard, he embarrassed himself.
Fun fact (or not): in Brazil they translated the title of this movie as "Debi & Loide", since "debilóide" is a common way of calling someone stupid, dumb, weak-minded. So yeah, Harry become Debi :D
When you look at this, and consider many of the other works of Jeff Daniels, it truly is amazing the range he has as an actor! And, really, for Jim Carrey, too! Although, his comedic chops aren't so much of a surprise!
So this was 1994, the first time an Actor had 3 movies released in one calendar year! Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. Jim and Lauren met for her audition for Ace but was passed over but they started talking and then she was cast in her role for Dumb and Dumber. They were married in 96 and divorced in 97...
That can't be correct, perhaps it was something like having three number 1 movies at the top of the box office or something similar. Many actors have had 3, or more, movies released in a year(going back many decades), where they were the main star.
It’s one of those movies that lives up to its name in the best way. I didn’t doubt that you’d like it, but you both got even more of a kick out of it than I expected. 😄
Simone: He needs to die. I don't think it's that kind of movie though. Me: Bwahahahahahahha! In all seriousness though, the older I get, the more Harry and Lloyd stop seeming dumb, and starting seeming like selfish jerks. Maybe I'm just getting more cynical?
Dumb and Dumber To isn’t worth seeing. Pretty disappointing sequel. However the guys who did this movie (The Farrelly Brothers) followed it with KingPin, which is basically the spiritual sequel to this film, and dare I say even funnier. Bill Murray, Woody Harrelson. See that and you won’t de disappointed. The Farrelly’s then followed that with There’s Something about Mary. Their perfect comic trilogy really 😁.
The only good joke in the sequel is the return address joke but apart from that it's gash. But I do agree kingpin is worth a watch on here, Bill murray steals the show
31:20 - I think it's meant to be ambiguous. The viewer doesn't know whether it was the beers he had or being grossed out by seeing his friend with his crush.
SeaBass was played by former NHL great Cam Neely. the Farrelly brothers always try to give a role in each of their movies to famous professional athletes (Neely, Roger Clemens, Brett favre, to name a few). It's like looking for the Stan Lee cameo in Marvel movies, i.e. find the athlete in a Farrelly movie.
Same with that comedian who played the cop. He’s been in alot of other movies, including There’s Something about Mary which is another Farrelly bros movie. He was also in Half Baked. His only starring role was Rocketman in 1997
@@thedrizzle06925 he improvised pretty much all of his lines as the cop. Thanks for doing this movie, it's a comedy classic. The Farrelly Brothers also did a movie call King Pin with Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray which is definitely worth a viewing.
To this day, I’ve never heard a theater full of people laugh as hard as they did at the diarrhea scene. Different times… :)
Clint Eastwood approached Daniels at some charity golf tournament and told him he absolutely loved the movie - and that he had had that exact situation (minus the laxative poisoning :D ) happen to him on a date..
Gotta love the talent of Jeff Daniels, doing this and Speed the same year. 2 very different Harry's.
A Canadian reacting to a movie starring a Canadian actor (aka, James "Jim" Eugene Carrey) is just perfect. Exactly what you should see.
No movie has ever been more accurately titled. 😆 Loved your reactions, just like always!
I love that you can hear Jim Carrey's Canadian accent in some of his dialogue. Also he was married to Mary in real life, the chipped tooth is real and they really annoyed the bad guy they picked up in there dogmobile. Him screaming at them was real. Lol
When he said "sorry" I thought. "Oh that's right, he's canadian".
Harry: Just get the bare essentials, this is the last of our dough.
-Lloyd returns to the apartment
Harry: Where's the booze?
“Unless you wanna work 40 hours a week”
Jim Carrey actually chipped his tooth on the run up to filming the movie, but decided not to fix it until after they wrapped as he felt it suited the character
Edit: he chipped it when he was young, and had the cap removed for the role
I heard he chipped his tooth when he was a kid and so he had it the filling removed for the movie at least that's what he said years ago
@@biodigitaljazz5814 aha, that does make a bit more sense on thinking about it
@@Psilocybin77 that's a weird thing to love doing, but to each his own!
@@DKSean yes, he broke his tooth when he was a kid. He was in detention at school and him and his friend were horsing around his friend did a cannon ball on his head and his tooth hit the desk and it chipped it
I heard Jim Carrey broke his tooth out completely, found a completely different tooth on the ground, but it was chipped, had that tooth surgically implanted, then had it removed and his real tooth implanted at the completion of shooting the movie. 😉
I feel like the ketchup and mustard bottles scene was just pure improv. Dudes played off of each other's stupidity perfectly!
My favorite all time comedy. Will watch this anywhere & any time. So many great quotes from this movie which society still references today.
"Harry, you're alive! And you're a horrible shot!"
I have watched a ton of CineBinge's movie reactions....I gotta be honest, I don't remember ever seeing one where the both of you laughed so much. I love this movie, but your reactions had me laughing even more and I didn't think that was possible. 👍
This film and Kingpin for me was the peak of slapstick comedy in my youth and it will remain one of my favourite films in the genre forever
The "cow" scene in Kingpin is one of the best lines I've ever heard in a movie. Quoting it since!😂
@dudewhereismyfitness "She sure is a stubborn one..."
Dumb & Dumber was super popular movie back in the day. When it came out every kid in school was talking about it for a long time after the release.
The teachers at school decided to let us watch it at the end of the day once. That was first and only time this happen so you can imagine how popular Dumb & Dumber was.
It still is a popular movie!
@@nsasupporter7557 It sure is but back then it was extremely popular. People talked about it constantly.
I remember watching it last day of school as a cool way to relax after the semester. Watching this and eating pizza, it was the bomb.
I used to love watching Conan whenever Jeff Daniels was on the show promoting whatever movie he was fixing to be in. Whatever the project, no matter how serious, Conan would always pitch it, then cut to the Jeff Daniels bathroom scene in this movie. Lol
Craziest thing about this movie is that one of the directors, Peter Farrely, is now the winner of 2 Oscars, for directing and producing Green Book
I literally cried during the bathroom scene. Classic!🤣🤣🤣
Love you, guys. Big hug from Brazil. ♥️🇧🇷
When Clint Eastwood ast Jeff Daniels in one of his movies he told him that had actually happened to him one time
Highly recommend "There's Something About Mary" The same directors come back to one of the most outrageous romantic comedies ever made.
@@justindenney-hall5875 I love that movie, but it's definitely dark 😆
@@justindenney-hall5875 to me, There's something about Mary is lighthearted fun. A dark comedy IMO would be "Very Bad Things" with Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz. Maybe you should watch that first and compare it tonally to this movie.
*"How'd you get the beans above the frank?"*
@@williameleno that's why I like it. They make messed up situations hilarious.
Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie are two of my favourite people ever. Thanks for the lovely reminder in the intro.
I miss Whose Line so much.
I wonder how long they'd be laughing if they watched the episode with Richard Simmons ;-) ...with the jet skis...
Jim Carey , Canada's greatest export to the rest of the world .
I love his movies , the guy's hilarious AF !!!
Yes, him and Robin Williams are the only comedians I like. All other comedians suck compared to them
I recently rewatched Jim Carrey in Man on the Moon, the biopic about the comedian Andy Kaufman, could be his best performance. Definitely worth a watch.
Yes! Thank you for bringing up Man on the Moon. It makes me sad how much that movie gets overlooked.
Because usually when people think of dramatic Jim Carrey movies they only think of Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. They completely forget about Man on the Moon
Wow, I'd forgotten how great the soundtrack to this film is.
Almost every movie you guys chunk out is one that I've already watched. You really have good tastes in movies! Or your community does, perhaps, haha. Thanks for uploading these! I listen to them during my outdoor walks and it really alleviates my boredom.
What's the point of watching someone react to a movie you have not seen?
You cut 2 of my favourite moments, both improvised: "big gulps huh, alriiiight...welp, see ya later!" and "no, that's great...WE LANDED ON THE MOON"
Oh, you watched the Unrated version. Looks like I'm lucky I didn't :D It took me way, way, way back. T... th... thw... the soundtrack is the most 90s thing ever.
Before that Skillshare ad, I'd have thought that you'd have done improv theater, Simone. Especially with the Whose Line Is It Anyway thing! You're so good at turning what some call mistakes into fun and unique energy.
"That John Denver is full of shit, man."
WOW! This is the first time I've noticed that the hotel Harry and Lloyd stay at in Aspen is the Stanley Hotel. Stephen King stayed in the same hotel and was inspired to write "The Shining."
Our pets' HEADS ARE FALLING OFF...
So you learned that Daniels isn’t a comedian typically?
@@nsasupporter7557 yes, but it is still hard to separate him from this character.
@@thebluecollarbibleguy5114 yeah, I understand 🙂
Fun fact: the studio didn’t want Daniels at first, because they didn’t see him as a comedian 😉 the only reason he was in the movie was because of Jim Carrey. He wanted Jeff Daniels and fought to keep him in the movie
You guys appreciate this kind of humor so well...I hope you guys love this movie. It's an absolute classic.
That thumbnail is pure nightmare fuel
Yep. I still remember when Jim Carey won the best kiss in a movie at the MTV awards for that year.
I don't get why the extended version seems to be the prominent version nowadays.
agreed. the trimmed version is MUCH better.
Yeah, I agree with that. The extended motel scene makes Lloyd seem unnecessarily mean.
@@trentb3148 probably because 99% of the time people tend to recommend the uncut or extended versions of movies in general so I think people often opt for them by default now
Lloyd was spiteful.
At 21:28 I am so glad they get the reference, "I'd like to eat her liver with some fava beans and nice bottle of chianti."
Since you like Jeff Daniels, you should react to Arachnophobia (1990).
I love that quote they did from Silence of the Lambs.
If you haven't watched it yet, need to also watch Liar Liar.
Yes! Liar Liar is 1 of his bests. His most underrated movie was Me, Myself and Irene. It’s a crime how much that movie flew under the radar
For some reason, her quiet, slightly nervous reaction is hilarious against the backdrop of EXPLOSION 2:30
No, you're right. They're (mostly) nice to each other, but they act like a-holes or creeps to pretty much everyone else.
Compliments to the editor for the thumbnail 😂 Never disappointed 👍🏽 Great reaction
It's common knowledge that all swimsuit bikini models wear only their bikinis wherever they go.
Jim Carey does the best dry heaves. One of my favorite gags in the movie. I've seen him do it on talk shows too.
Second this suggestion.
I third the suggestion
I like Kingpin, I wouldn't say it's funnier than D&D but the humor level is the same. But definitely watch Kingpin, you won't be disappointed.
Honestly, Stuck on You wasn't half bad, either.
The unrated version is at times so tonally different from the theatrical cut. I didn't like it nearly as much.
These guys aren't just anybody....they're GOOD.
His only starring role was Rocketman in 1997
@@nsasupporter7557 the great Harlan Williams
@@thedrizzle06925 he improvised pretty much all of his lines as the cop.
