      Being a biological father I tell you now , do not let your head create emotions, affections and love towards your newborn baby, it's all bull crap ,you're just his biological father, you gave that baby life (you did more than enough) you don't need to be attached to your child , so don't feel that bad if you don't want to be around your child, nothing wrong with that. Your wife or whatever is probably gonna hate you for tha and you gonna lose them both, but who cares, nobody cares, I know I didn't, I left 3 countries the moment they told me they were pregnant. The stepdad being a good guy showed a new trend in Hollywood that I think started with Mrs. Doubtfire where Pierce Brosnan’s would-be stepdad was a good guy. Before then it was a common trope the hopeful stepdad was always awful in some way (a cheater, abusive, etc). What I am curious about is if this trend was the result of many of the writing staff having grown up with stepfathers/parents or an overall reflection of society and the public perception of stepdads.
    Also Legal Eagle gave Liar Liar a B+ for its overall legal accuracy.

    LegalEagle did do a review of this movie and it's really interesting stuff but bottom line, the result regarding the marriage contract being entered into underage would've resulted in the same place: either the prenup is void because of a party being underage but then so is the marriage contract (meaning no right to assets because they weren't married) OR the marriage contract got, over time, "ratified by conduct" (because they stayed "married" or together for over a decade) and is valid but that would mean the prenup is ALSO valid. There is something in California law that can also complicate things like this called "Palimony" AKA a "Marvin Claim" (named after Lee Marvin) where essentially non-marital partners have the right to sue for breach of contract for sharing of assets and incomes, alleging that they had held themselves out as a married couple.

    Yes, during the process of "Discovery", both attorneys are able to access and request documents from either side (so long as the documents are relevant to the case). Once they've gathered the evidence they believe builds their case, they must disclose the evidence they have and intend to use in court.

    • @malcolmrowe9003
      @malcolmrowe9003 Год назад

      Is either side allowed to introduce newly discovered evidence (like in most Perry Mason films). It so, is there a special process for doing so, like the sometimes shown scene of lawyers meeting with the judge in a separate room.

    • @SpencerKelly93
      @SpencerKelly93 Год назад

      @@malcolmrowe9003 Yes but it's pretty rare that this new evidence would come to light during the trial. In the event it does, the opposing side can request time to review the new evidence and reform their argument. Also, an attorney that brings new evidence like this has to be careful that the new evidence has a "paper trail" proving that it is, in fact, new evidence. Otherwise the attorney bringing the new evidence can be accused of concealing evidence in discovery which is a pretty serious ethical violation.
      One last point. I'm almost certain that the fact that Fletcher realized in court that Mrs. Cole lied about her age would not be considered "new evidence". The reason being is that her ID would have been readily available to the defense and they could have made the same conclusion before hand. Fletcher realizing this during the case does not bar him from using it in his argument.

    When Audrey approaches Fletcher on the tarmac at the end of the film, before the police officer steps aside so she can approach him, you can see Carrey in the background playing his character Fire Marshall Bill from the TV show "In Living Color."
    There are some relatively big Carrey dramas you could do, like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon, but as far as comedy goes, I really hope that you guys check out one of Carrey's most underrated but very funny major '90s movies, The Cable Guy. Directed by Ben Stiller, written (uncredited) by Judd Apatow, starring a ton of future famous comedy stars. It was a box office misfire, one of the only ones in Carrey's '90s hot streak, and this movie was considered a return to form, but it's a great movie, and I think people without the same expectations of Carrey as they had in the '90s can enjoy it more easily (you'll see what I mean when you see it).
    (I also really don't think either of the Ace Ventura movies have held up very well for various reasons, and I recommend skipping both of them -- I would second Me, Myself & Irene instead.)

      @@Falcun21 I mean, it's subjective. But even Carrey has gone on record saying the villain in the first movie was a bad idea and that he regrets that material, and was on record even back in 1995 that he did not want to make a sequel, only did it out of contractual obligations, and disliked the experience. It's the reason it took 20 years for him to make another sequel to one of his movies...which, who knows how great he felt about that in the end too, although I thought that one at least had its moments.

    This came out when I was ten, and it's still one of my favorite comedies and probably all-time favorite Jim Carrey film. As I've gotten older I've only grown to appreciate more and more the fact that not only is he incapable of lying, he's also incapable of suppressing the inner reactions he has to the world around him, the kind of stuff adults feel in their heads all day long but can't express, e.g. doing a flying kick through a stairwell door to get away from your boss lol. The fact that he's playing this relatively down-to-earth character instead of a giant cartoon like in Ace Ventura or The Mask makes this stuff even funnier.
    Will also add that back in the 90s, there was a lot of criticism directed towards Carrey that all he did was make funny faces. I'm glad to see that's largely gone as people have recognized the dude has chops and that what he was doing was never as simple as that.

    As to sharing information, in the US it's known as disclosure. Both sides are allowed to rebut the others evidence and witnesses and the jury is to decide the case. If either side withholds information, a mistrial can be declared, in which case the whole trial will start from the beginning, including selecting a new jury.
