When they're in the cemetery and Zoolander asks "Why male models?" twice, Ben Stiller had forgotten his line and so improvised by repeating his previous line. I react much the same way you both do every time I see that scene - it's hilarious!
I love how Duchovny responds in-character, whatever the next line would have been it couldn't have been funnier than his deadpan delivery of incredulity
It's an acting tool. It takes a ton of time to stop and restart shooting and blocking. Stiller forgot his line and began again at the start, which is the signal for the other actors to repeat the lines, and they'll edit it in post. But David improved about already telling him, and they kept it.
@@jlinkous05 I hadn't realised it was an acting tool. Thanks for letting me know, Duchovny's improvised line is definitely even funnier now that I know the background to Ben Stiller's repeating the line.

Jerry’s wife and Ben’s mom, actress Anne Meara was in this too. She plays the egg throwing protestor in that first red carpet scene. Sadly, she passed away since this movie came out.

This movie is amazingly intelligent, not only because the obvious humor. But more because the real/hidden message that the movie is sharing about the industry.
The hand model in the cemetery explaining the conspiracy is David Duchovny, who came to fame as Mulder in the X-Files, which was about conspiracy theories. Frankie Goes To Hollywood was a techno pop band who had a big hit with the songs "Relax", "Two Tribes" an "The Power of Love" in the 1980's. Ben Stiller grew up around Hollywood entertainment types and based some of his characters on the people in the industry he met who took themselves super seriously.
One of the most quotable movies of all time. Still do daily to this day. I don't care what anyone says, Ben Stiller will always be one of the all time greats. When it comes to comedy bro has done it all
The stealthiest joke of the film is the fact Will Ferrell’s character is named Mugatu, which was a creature in one of the most bizarre episodes of Star Trek (“A Private Little War”). Stiller has copped to being a massive Star Trek fan.
So movie was released in 2001 after a certain event. They had to digitally take out a reminder in the skyline... it was an awkward time. When I saw this on release in the cinema, everybody puckered in anticipation of how bad it could be when Derek brings out the makeup, then the release of tension was great, genuine belly laughs watching the other actors lip-synch so well. It's also surprisingly gentle - even Derek's 'eew' at Matilda's previous weight is only because he's too stupid to realise that you aren't supposed to be mean to others just because they are different. It's a comedy you can show to a wide audience and they all find a different part funny - that's real writing skill.

The woman throwing the egg at Mugatu is afaik Mother Stiller, Anne Meara.
Andy Dick was the masseuse, that is why the masseuse was in the film.
5:50 Young Alexander Skarsgard.
So glad you watched this, one of my all time faves. Knew you would crack up watching it...
This film is still one of the best comedies ever made definitely in the top 5%
23:18 "I know it was you Morty" was a Godfather reference
noticing he can't turn left before they tell you is crazy funny
The Center for Ants bit is probably one of the funniest parts of the movie. It always gets me.
At work if anyone coughs I typically say "he's got the black lung pop" *teeny cough cough*
Speaking of fashion. I love George's shirt in this one 😂
The quote kept popping in my head randomly last night, feels like a sign to buy that shirt 😅
Is it a command, or a description?
@@treetopjones737it's a quote from RoboCop
You forgot about another "Stiller". Ben Stiller's mom also starred in this movie.
And his sister Amy (in Hansel's place)
I had such a crush on Christine Taylor when she was on the Nickelodeon show "Hey Dude". Then she was on The Brady Bunch movie as Marsha (the older sister who gets a football in the face). Then I grew up and childhood crushes wore off that I had for all of the pretty girls on Nickelodeon shows.
This is the funniest thing most of these people ever did. A classic on par with Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs.
This is absolutely my f****** favorite reaction to this movie. ✌️
“…without a bird on his face.”
George with another QI fact.
:-)
Fred Durst does a cameo in this, while Ben Stiller and Stephen Dorff (Also in the movie) makes a cameo in the Rollin' music video.
"You should listen to friend Billy Zane.... he's a cool dude."
He can't turn left b/c he is from NJ. In NJ you have to make a right on a round about to make a "left"
The masseuse was comedian Andy Dick. The role of Mugatu was written for him but he couldn't commit. He found time for the cameo though.
One of the most quotable movies ever! It's one of my favorite movies of all time!!
Ben Stiller forgot his line in the graveyard and just repeated "So why male models".
