Sock knitting is so addictive, they are all I knit now! I find that to help with the little hole around the heel, if you pick up a stitch and knit it together with the next stitch when you first start knitting the rest of the stitches again reinforces it really well. Also a ribbed heel-flap construction makes sock a lot more hard wearing so they are less likely to get fucked up in shoes :)
oh perfect!! I use that method for sleeves too :) and I see what you’re saying with the heel!! i’ll have to do a ribbed heel next time 👍 thanks for all the good advice 🤍
Welcome to the dark side! I did a year of knitting socks in 2017 and then I started making my own sock patterns and I sell them on my website! So much fun. It took me a few years to actually wear my own socks but now I wear them all the time.
I’ve been wanting to knit socks for a while now tbh. I tried crocheting them and I just couldn’t find a pattern I liked lol. I think you did really well, they’re super cute!!
if you get „designated“ sock yarn, there will most likely be a nylon (or other artificial fiber) component, which gives the yarn durability and helps with wear! The only pair of knitted socks I’ve ever walked a hole into were 100% merino with nothing else addition: there’s tons of free sock patterns on ravelry, I have knitted about 10 different lace patterns that were free at this point, socks are definitely something you absolutely don’t have to buy patterns for unless you want to
this is such good advice!! I always thought sock yarn was a way to describe the weight haha definitely will go with this from now on!! & awesome I definitely want to explore more texture once I get a few socks under my belt :) thanks for all the tips!
Your socks are very cute and you did a really good job on the heel. I started knitting socks a year ago, took me about a month but, I'm not a fast knitter and had other projects I was working on as well. It feels very empowering to knit socks and they are very addicting. I've got another pair on the needles right now, I like trying different heel methods. Good job!
I love Freeman's Creative!! bought my first sweater quantity of Malabrigo Rios there haha, I live in Wilmington but my best friend lives in Durham, also sock knitting is soooo addictive!!
also I highly recommend the sunday socks pattern by petiteknit!!! they’re dk weight, take half the time fingering weight socks would (which makes them a great gift knit) and are the perfect cosy socks for wearing around the house
My suggestion if you want an easy socks pattern that go by so fast and it’s DK Weight yarn it’s the Sunday socks from Petiteknit. Personally, I did not knit any toe up, sock pattern because I find it so difficult. I always do pattern that goes from cuff to the toe and I think it’s so easy and go by so fast.
I’ll have to check it out! thank you for the suggestion ☺️ I’ll have to try that method as well. I found that toe up worked really well for me once I figured out the cast on! but I can see how the other method would be beneficial as well. thanks so much for watching ❤️
Haha! When you said you were going to knit socks for everyone for Christmmas...🙊 Anyway, you did a GREAT job and they came out so cute! I never knit socks, now i want to :)
I KNOW maybe it’ll be a birthday thing so I don’t have to do them all at once 😅 and you should definitely give it a shot!! 💕 thanks so much for watching!
i’ve been on the mission of knitting self striping socks but once i got to the reinforced heel, i just quit, i’m really looking for motivation also im so scared that im making them too loose or too tight and all my work will be for NOTHING

this one was suggested to me a few times so i’ll definitely have to check it out :) thank you for watching! ❤️
a good tip to avoid holes where you picked up stitches is to knit these stitches through the back loop (only the first row)
ooo i’ve never heard of this i’ll have to give it a shot!
