    I was in the ER yesterday for over 6 hours. I had to wait over four hours in pain before they ran a CT scan. At age 64, it’s my first time ever having kidney stones. They are rare in women, but the physician’s assistant in the ER said she had never seen this … I have 3 stones and they are on both sides. On the right side I have a 4mm stone and on the left side I have two stones, one 2mm and the other 8mm. They sent me home with Oxycodone which hasn’t touched the pain! I feel like I’m going crazy with the pain. Of course, it happened going into the Christmas holiday weekend, so I can’t contact my urologist until Tuesday. I don’t know how I’m going to survive the non-stop pain for three more days!

      I had a 9.6 mm stone that was surgically removed. It was the most excrutiating experience in my nearly 60 years of existence. The doctors had to insert a stent in my urethra, and its removal was traumatic for me. Anyway, I use a product called, "Stone Stopper" and it has mitigated what I consider kidney stone back pain. Every once in a while, I also take vitamin B6 (25 mg., if you can find a lower dose, you may want to consider that) instead. Every day, I drink lemon/lime slices in water (drink with straw) and magnesium citrate, potassium citrate, and sometimes I will add 1/2 or 1 teaspoon of food grade citric acid. I drink at least one gallon of water, daily: an increase from 2 liters. There are some people who drink apple cider vinegar with the mother, diluted in water, lemon slices and organic olive oil.
      I hope someday, science will be able to allow us to eat oxalates without forming stones.

      I cannot believe they sent you home !! I just got out of the hospital after 4 days of being there. I finally passed a clump of 7mm stones on day 3. After they hooked me up for 3 days on Flomax, ( opens the ureters); morphine for pain, and a constant water IV to help flush it through.
      The pain was gone and I was able to basically sleep until I passed it. When I passed it, I got a 101 fever they kept me another day to observe. It was horrific until they finally got me settled in a quiet room with pain meds. I hope you are ok now.

      If its your first and only stone some diet changes may help avoid another stone. However, its possible you have other already resting within the kidney. The biggest thing is to make sure your drinking enough water. Coffee is something you might want to reduce or chase it with an equal amount of water.

      Great job Mary! I am proud of you for making some great changes. There are so many ways to season food without reaching for the saltshaker. As you cut back - you will notice the less and less you will need to flavor your dishes.

    I’ve had a few rounds of kidney stones. All calcium oxalate type. I also have high calcium in my urine and Doc has me on 2 water pills for it. Barely lowered the calcium level in my urine. Also have low potassium as a result of the water pills. Even on prediction for potassium chloride and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything as my potassium level won’t budge. There HAS TO BE SOMETHING ELSE wrong. I’m told no. Soooo frustrating.

    Straight & simple talk here. I'd get up to 4 very large (oxalate) kidney stones a year. I've had NONE for 7 years now. I use something called 'Stone Breaker' tablets I get from Walmart. Active ingredient is something called Chanca Piedra & there are other brands available. Dosage is recommended 3 tablets a day (about 25 cents each) but I find that one a day works for me. If I feel back pain like from a pending stone I simply go to two tabs a day for a while & never had a problem.

    I've been dealing with significant amount of kidney stones. Typically small but the frequency has gotten out of hand. I've been getting them monthly now. Sometimes 5 within a month. Even after making some of the diet changes. Increasing citrate seems to help make them smaller. Something weird that happens is they will pass into the bladder and then I never feel anything come out. Which seems a bit alarming. Going to the specialist will cost me a significant amount of money so I need it to be worth going to get my urine analyzed. From what I understand there isn't any medication that helps. Just diet changes. So what would the point be if all they are going to do is suggest things I already know? Sorry, this has been very frustrating for me.

      @@palmajavierI have to warn you that if you have uric acid stones, then a high protein diet is not good. Every time I go on Keto or carnivore I get uric acid stones. The diets are great to reduce my A1C and daily blood glucose and yes I do lose weight. I am in a catch 22 it fixes one thing but causes another. I don’t know what to eat anymore between the stones and the diabetes

      Where is this stone resting ? That is critical to know. Yes within the kidney they do typically leave them alone. Within the ureter that is dangerous for the damage they cause there. Its been years makes me assume its within the kidney.

    This doctor is wrong on at least two items here. No 1. Red meat does NOT equate to having more stones nor is salt mean you will have stones. My mother went to the hospital for hyponatremia because she was told by doctors to have a low sodium diet beaten into her brain! Salt is a NECESSITY for life and good health. It is part of the electrolytes needed!

    • @hijack29

      There is not enough research in this field and doctors are still following outdated information. Or maybe it's a very profitable bussiness to treat it through surgery and medications for whole life rather than to find a true cure for it.

    • @Isa_Dark_
      @Isa_Dark_ 9 месяцев назад +1

      You're right! Generally the excessive sodium consumption is because of the high processed food like sausages and ham (they're high in sodium) and NOT because of the salt that we add to the food when we cook daily.

    • @drecool85
      @drecool85 7 месяцев назад

      Probably the nuance is processed salts like table salt, not normal salt in health foods & stuff like sea salt. also depending on other health conditions sodium intake has to be taken into consideration relative to the kidney stone.

      Actually was confused with this as red meat has zero oxalates which is the primary cause of stones. So it doesn't makes sense about putting blame to red meat when actually the reason behind could be the salt used for it.

    Seems to me the top causes of kidney stones may be UTI and acidic urine:
    High incidence of urinary stones in Uyghur children may be related to local environmental factors, 2014,
    since I find it hard to get any solid numbers elsewhere.
    Hypoxia causes acidic urine, so that may be the main cause for the latter.
    Overnight Urinary Uric Acid: Creatinine Ratio for Detection of Sleep Hypoxemia: Validation Study in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Obstructive Sleep Apnea before and after Treatment with Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, 1992
    Note this talks about uric acid from ATP degradation during hypoxia. Not diet! And apart from that there is many additional ways how hypoxia can result in aciduria.
    So that also explains gout by hypoxia such as from sleep apnea.
    Daily iodine may help both:
    A negative association between urinary iodine concentration and the prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout: a cross-sectional and population-based study in Mainland China, 2020
