Part of the fun of a kidney stone is going to the emergency room and waiting 5 hours in excruciating pain including writhing on the floor and having the personnel get angry at you for doing that while they see people with colds before you get help. I'd like to thank the American hospitals everywhere who do that. Kudos. Great job.

Don't forget the $25,000 ambulance ride and hospital bills afterward. Especially when they run all the tests and end up saying, "Let's just wait and see if it will pass on its own." No prescription, no surgery, no machine to break up the stones. Thanks for coming, here's a $25,000 bill. We appreciate your patronage. Come again soon.

After having 10 12 kidney stones through the years and have been to the emergency room several times for NOTHING ! I save strong pain meds back from other medical problems and I don't leave home without them anymore. Without warning I had one at work when they found me in pain in the bathroom floor they called an ambulance which I refused and begged some to take me home to get my meds they have been with me every day since. Some have given warnings like the unexplained aich in the back several days before and some had a about a 30 second warning some I have seen and others not which is scary and hard to believe considering how bad they hurt. Speaking of scared just watching this video and thinking about it has me shaking 😢

Amen on that. i was once in the ER waiting room and they took 2 hours to get me in and then 2 hours to get meds. They said i have to see the doctor first. Meanwhile he is on the phone yacking away and nobody seems to care about you. They look at you like your a nobody but the little old lady that walks in with a headache gets the treatment.

I have had kidney stones many times over years, I am 57 now. Last week one was stuck in between kidney and bladder, backup of urine in kidney. If a kidney stone pain is 1-10 a 10 which I thought was painful. When it backs up into kidney it's 100, I never want to experience pain like that again, was like getting kidney removed while awake with someone using butter knife. Morphine x 2 was zero help, then iv toradol and pain went away. I think I have minor kidney issues now since the backup into kidney, happened 2 days in row and was at ER both times, now my body is holding water etc, keeping electrolytes in me and drinking a lot of water.

CHANCA PIEDRA WORKS!!! Last night my pain was building… I was mins away from taking an Uber to the ER. Remembered I bought the CP for my husband’s crisis and took 2 Tbsps (as directed) and within 30 mins, pain subsided by 70%. I was asleep within an hour. This morning, other than a little tenderness in the back area, I feel fine. Will continue to take 2 Tbsp 3x day for next week or two, and then stay on a maintenance dose of 2 Tbsp every 2 weeks. This stuff works and saves my last night 11/4/24🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

My first stone was when I was 9 months pregnant with my second child. So much pain. That was ‘94. Ended up with them again years later. Old doctor kept sending me to physical therapy because he thought my pain (I felt bruised all the time) was from my weight training. Needless to say I nearly died from going septic. I have a great Urologist who saved my life, he did a PCNL , which no dr in my county will perform, plus I had several more surgeries that year…one after another after another. An entire year of excruciating pain and not being able to leave the house because I couldn’t be away from the toilet. Now, a year and half later, I have 3 more plus I gained weight. I am one of those people which the family curse. My life goes on, but dang it, I want what I had of my life back. Great video. Thank you.

Im 70 years young and went to the ER because the pain was excruciating to find out for the first time that I have kidney stones. That one passed that first day and my pain passed with it. As of yesterday I'm now going through it again. The pain is horrific. Starting today I will be taking apple cider vinagar daily to help dissolve the other 7 and hopefully prevent future stones. This truly is the worst pain I've ever experienced. Even worse than when I was struck by a train or giving Natural Childbirth.

I had to change my entire diet! The diet given to me in the ER didn’t help. I kept producing stones. I went completely plant based. I drink 16 ounces of celery juice every morning. And I drink water with every meal. I also keep cold water at my bedside. I only drink water no sodas no juice except celery juice. I also drank stone breaker tea in the beginning when and if I felt anything…I don’t ever want to experience that pain again. And I can now tell that I’ve fixed the problem because I no longer have that colicky feeling that I use to have in my stomach and what I thought was frequent UTIs has completely disappeared. That’s how I manage and prevent kidney stones. It’s been 5 years!

I just had ureteroscopy on a 6mm stone the day after Christmas. I went to the ER with severe pain and nausea on Christmas Eve. The doctor diagnosed hydronephrosis and, since it was a holiday, they opted to keep me in the hospital on order to manage my pain and nausea and to monitor my temperature. Even though I hated being in the hospital on Christmas, my history of managing my pain at home is poor. It was a very easy surgery this time, with very little post-op pain. But since this is my second surgery in one calendar year, the surgeon wants me to see a nephrologist. He also wants to keep the stent in for two weeks, which bummed me a little. This was my sixth kidney stone surgery in five years. I'm just glad I didn't have to have surgery during covid!

Straight & simple talk here. I'd get up to 4 very large (oxalate) kidney stones a year. I've had NONE for 7 years now. I use something called 'Stone Breaker' tablets I get from Walmart. Active ingredient is something called Chanca Piedra & there are other brands available. Dosage is recommended 3 tablets a day (about 25 cents each) but I find that one a day works for me. If I feel back pain like from a pending stone I simply go to two tabs a day &never had a problem.

Although this video was released more than a year ago, I had to watch it! I'm an RN who has worked in the Emergency Department and have seen many patients with kidney stones in pain they cannot even begin to describe. So I help them out because I have passed more than 85 stones and had laser lithotripsy seven times. I've even managed to pass a 10 mm stone.
Family history makes it difficult. All of my Mom's brothers and sisters (six of them) have had terrible problems with kidney stones. Of my 32 first cousins, 28 of us have had kidney stones. My own daughter started to have them at age 16. My best advice is to find a knowledgeable, compassionate urologist and if he/she is not helpful, keep looking.

Currently being treated. Went to ER, confirmed stone. Tried waiting, but stone didn't move. Tried lithotripsy, but wasn't in right location, so placed a stent. Removed stent, successfully cut stone with contact laser and removed using uteroscopy, then put in new stent to help ureter heal properly. I go back soon to get second stent removed. No family history, and never had a stone before, but started eating "healthy" six months ago: almonds, spinach, reducing cheese (calcium).
Also, in U.S., we get plastic funnels with screens instead of coffee filters.

UPDATE: While I had the stents in, I found that it was painful if I stopped and restarted urinating. It's best to let it all out at once.
The second stent removal was in my doctor's office. They squirted a painkiller up my "zizi" (didn't hurt, but felt weird), then waited a few minutes, then placed a thin tube up my "zizi" to pull out the stent. I expected the stent to be a short thing, but it's actually pretty long.
It has been nearly a year, and things are going well. I watch what I eat most of the time. I went back last month for an X-ray, and they didn't see any new stones.
I'm just trying to share my survivor story. It's quite an ordeal.

I had a big 14 mm round stone like a marble that hit me on November 28th, 2020 at age 57, after getting a CT scan on December 2nd, 2020, I was in surgery on December 9th, 2020 having it removed. The surgery went very well and only a tiny incision was made in my lower left back. I stay in the hospital for two days, and was release to go home with the catheter which was removed 7 days later. My annual four follow-up over these past four years shows no more stone formation, I just had a 4th CT scan done a few days ago as a follow-up going on the 4th year, so just waiting for those results, hopefully will be good, so that I won't need any more scans going forward. A couple things that I like to mention that the doctors did not mention is that when you first get hit with the severe abdominal pain from the stone, you may experience several bouts of vomiting up clear liquid which was the case with me which happened like 5 times on the morning of the stone getting dislodged, each of the 5 times happened at (4:30am the second one at 4:45am, then 5:30am, 6am, and the final was at 6:30am. It was very scary because it was the first time that I experience a kidney stone, so I didn't know with was happening with me. I ended up driving myself to the ER at 7:30am in a lot of pain, and with an slightly elevated fever, and I was at the ER for 8 hours, sent home with a CT scan appointment a few days later which confirmed what I suspected. The pain subsided after the first day with pain meds, and rest, but some days were worst than other up to the day of the surgery. After the stone was removed, I felt much better. It took about 7 to 10 days to fully recover and be able to go on short walks, about 30 days just taking it easy after the surgery, and getting plenty of rest and the start of drinking more water.

I have experienced kidney stones twice in the past and on both occasions, a stent was required to be placed. The pain that comes along with it is indescribable and the anxiety of going to the emergency room in Canada is immeasurable. The only form of relief that I could find was through heat therapy, such as hot baths, hot showers, hot water bottles, or heating pads. This was after the stent was placed and there were still occasional waves of pain and blockage.

His 12 mm stone was broken up with the scope and laser however the surgeon had to leave about a 3 mm portion to pass since when he tried to break that up it wanted to spin. @@rotwiler7674 let them put a stent in and let them try to remove the stone instead of passing it. It's literally the worst pain I've ever experienced. They can break it up or remove it. Luckily I have a phenomenal urologist who was able to remove it from the ureter. But it ruptured my kidney while passing getting stuck just leaving the kidney into the tube. No kidney stone patient should be sent home from the hospital to pass that on their own, I believe. It's just so painful and dangerous. Without more imaging, they wouldn't have known my kidney ruptured. And the nephrostomy bag was painful as well. If you are male you have a longer route to expel that stone than a woman.
The only thing that made me feel better was hearing a Dr say she had just gone through the same thing weeks earlier and knows how we kidney patients feel.

I need to clarify as someone who has had a kidney stone, appendicitis, and long, painful childbirths. They are equally painful depending on length of labor. I had a nice quick labor and child birth, and it was intense, but for less than an hour. I have also had horrible drawn out labor fueled with exhaustion and stalled dilation. The intense pain is equal. The difference is in the time that you are in pain, size and location, etc. For some, unbearable, for others extremely painful, bu😮t over quickly (hour or two).
The absolute worse was when my husband had a terrible stone. He was vomiting and passing out from the pain. I was two weeks postpartum with a c-section plus appendectomy. I drove my husband to the hospital. He was lying on the floor of our van and couldn’t get up by himself. I ran inside to get help but was met with stares and apathy from the staff. There were no people in the waiting room. The staff was just standing around staring at me.
Finally I saw a wheelchair and took it outside to get my husband. I got him in the chair and brought him inside.
Finally, someone began to take our information and react appropriately.
😂 it’s been 23 years and I am still annoyed by that day.

I curse my younger self for thinking water is gross, a life time of minimal water intake has caused me excruciating pain and will now drink gallons of water daily in fear of another emergence from the crystal menace.

Had 1 stone only. Worse pain ever. Rather have a baby than have another one. Went to the ER within 15 minutes of the start of the pain. Within 1 hour had ct scan and medication to kill pain. Went home and passed it 2 days later. Knew I was going to pass it because the pain came back again for about 15 minutes.

I was in the ER yesterday for over 6 hours. I had to wait over four hours in pain before they ran a CT scan. At age 64, it’s my first time ever having kidney stones. They are rare in women, but the physician’s assistant in the ER said she had never seen this … I have 3 stones and they are on both sides. On the right side I have a 4mm stone and on the left side I have two stones, one 2mm and the other 8mm. They sent me home with Oxycodone which hasn’t touched the pain! I feel like I’m going crazy with the pain. Of course, it happened going into the Christmas holiday weekend, so I can’t contact my urologist until Tuesday. I don’t know how I’m going to survive the non-stop pain for three more days!

I am one of those people who grows kidney stones. I've passed 4 so far over the years. My urologist told me 4 years ago that I have a 6 mm and two other small stones. It's a bad feeling to know you have something that will cause pain when it moves. Well, this past weekend, while on a camping trip, the big one decided to move. My husband knows the routine and immediately rushed me to the ER. Thankfully the ER hooked me up to fluids and pain meds while I had to wait for a room to open. Pain management is crucial for kidney stones. 3 days later and it still hasn't passed. I go back to my urologist in two days and they will evaluate if they need to go after it. I'm not wanting to have surgery, but relief has to come somehow.

He is so active and golf’s at a high level 3 times a week on a very long course. Still runs companies and is of sound mind. I have a stone lodged in my ureter. I had a ureteroscopy procedure from below, Doctor could not get the stone into the basket so he stopped before he did any damage. Then I was sent to another hospital for a nephrostomy tube to drain the swollen kidney, then a week later got a double J stent. There was some pain as they worked the wire attempting to and finally getting past the stone. After a dye test to check kidney and stent function, the nephrostomy tube was removed. I was told that I may have to have a new stent every three months as kidney stones form on the stent since it is a foreign object in the body. I must say that the care I received was excellent and I trusted the six doctors that I have seen since treatment started 3 months ago.

When I was younger (19'ish) I had kidney pain like a stone which progressed over time. Started when I would drink beer. Later it would just flare up for no reason or when I drank something like a soda. Anything that was like a diuretic. That's when I went to the hospital and later saw a urologist. They couldn't figure out what was wrong and confirmed it wasn't a kidney stone so then it was on to exploratory surgery whereby the surgeon discovered that my ureter on my affected kidney was blocked by an artery and essentially was underneath it. It was a birth defect which they corrected by cutting it and reattaching it over the artery. Everything returned to normal but if it wasn't for modern medicine, I wouldn't have made it another year.

Currently waiting on a urologist call. It's been 3 days , I'm off work and losing money. They are in no hurry to help me and get very angry when I'm told I'm lucky with free health care, well it isn't free, and what good is it if you can't get immediate care. Both kidneys are packed full of stones and am in fear for my life due to possible infection, I need help.

@@Otomega1 I've had kidney stones for forty years. I have never had any removed in Hospital. To get rid of the Pain you need a Tourmaline magnet Back Support. This heats your back up and kills the bacteria and viruses. The best devices I have are a pain killing Ultrasound Device which vibrates deep inside your back and moves the stone so it passes out. I have a Multi Coloured Cold Laser which penetrates deep into your back and kills viruses and bacteria. It's good for Urinary infections and you can use it on your stomach. The Tourmaline Magnet stuff is very cheap to buy. The lasers and Ultrasound are about £100 each. But I found going to the Doctor a Waste of time. Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in Water with some sugar, and Cranberry juice helps a lot. Now the slightest feeling of a Kidney Stone and I get rid of it immediately. An infra red massager is good as well. They are about £30. Also a Magnetic self heating Back Support, which I wear in Bed is Brilliant.

Pain was intermittent - hurt a few days, then no pain for weeks. The past 5-6 weeks it's hurt more than not, so had CT for size and location and make a plan. CT showed 1 more in left side and 2 in right kidney. all 4mm or smaller, so more fun to come.

First kidney stone ever - 4mm this week. The pain was so intense I would rather die than go through it again. Went to ER at midnight, passed out from pain. they sent me home at 7 next morning after getting pain under control with morphine etc, Had oxy, high does advil other things for home in hopes it would pass. Didn’t matter. The pain returned by mid afternoon that same day, overriding all. Back to ER where they again did morphine, tramadol and anti nausea. Underwent the surgery. Best thing ever. Yes pain after and I still have to get stent removed but it’s nothing compared to the pain of the stone stuck at the entrance of the kidney. The surgeon said 4mm isn’t that big and it would pass on its own eventually. For those of you who have never been through it there is no “eventually.” Call me a wimp but I would nit be able to stand what they said could have been three weeks of that pain. By then I would have had to be seriously addict to opiates just to survive. If you get a stone and are in severe pain demand they remove it.
