Used to have really bad haemorrhoids, when i was young i didn't like to eat any vegetables and sitting in the toilet for very long time, now i eat alot of vegetables and fruit never have any problems with it again. This is very accurate
As a Medical Practitioner myself, here's a question I've asked numerous Gastroenterologist friends and colleagues that none have been able to adequately answer: We are told that we must wash our hands for at least twenty seconds after a bowel movement and wiping our bottoms in order to ensure that we do not transmit E Coli and other harmful microbes contained in the feces back into our system through the oral cavity. This, we know, can potentially make us very ill. Yet, every time that we have a bowel movement with hemorrhoids which are bleeding, we put the exiting fecal matter in direct contact with broken blood vessels and, thus, a direct entry point into the systemic bloodstream for these microbes. So why aren't people with bleeding hemorrhoids in a constant state of sepsis?
@@michelenichele294 Here's more to ponder, on a different topic: If high levels of LDL in the bloodstream is one of the main drivers of the formation of atherosclerotic plaques on arterial walls, please explain the following: 1) Since all cells in the body are constantly striving for homeostasis, and are very careful with what they let in and out of the cell membrane based on the ionic balances and immediate needs of the cell at any given moment, why would the endothelial cells of the arteries pull excess cholesterol from the LDL molecule in the bloodstream and deposit it behind it to accumulate and eventually create a plaque? 2) Since there are very tight junctions between these endothelial cells, the cholesterol cannot make its way behind the endothelium around the sides of the cells 3) What biologic mechanism is causing the cholesterol to leave the LDL transport molecule? There has to be a receptor site waiting to accept it. Being a lipid, it is not just floating freely in the water based fluid of the blood 4) The endothelial cells of the circulatory system are the same throughout. So why do these deposits and plaques only occur in certain areas of the systemic arterial system and NOT throughout? So, for instance, very rarely in the pulmonary arterial system, unless there is pulmonary hypertension, and NEVER in the venous system, UNLESS the vein is pulled and relocated in a high pressure area like what is done in a coronary artery bypass graft 5) A significant proportion of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts are performed on patients that have normal to low LDL levels or have been on statins for years
So likely because the bacterial load is low enough to cause bacteremia rather than septicemia. Our bodies are able to deal with a certain volume of contamination. Also being a venous rather than arterial source may contribute. Great question though
Hey guys I don’t know if this will help anyone but hopefully it will. Here is what helped me cure my Grade 2 hemmorhoid. All I did was eat soup, drink all of the soups juice (very important for nutrients), and after each meal I would eat one packet of oatmeal. I would also eat 1-2 bananas every day, don’t eat too many bananas or your stool will be a lot more soft than you need it to be and it may upset your stomach. I also did not sit AT ALL even when eating. The most important thing for me was to not sit down no matter what unless necessary like driving of course. I highly recommend Campbells chicken noodle soup, Vegetable beef soup, and Beef with country vegetables. They are all made by Campbell. I also would eat one bowl of cereal in the morning with almond milk. NO DAIRY until you feel better. Lastly I drank lots and lots of water and tried to spend the least amount of time possible on the toilet when passing a stool. Laying down is okay, walking and just doing general exercise is very helpful, just don’t sit down no matter what until its fully healed. I really hope this information will help some people, good luck and always remember to stay positive, staying positive is crucial and extremely important to getting better so never give up and just be positive because it will help your body. RECAP: - Soups, & Oatmeal - Cereal & Bananas - High Fiber Intake - High Water Intake - NO SITTING - Exercise (Don’t overdo it)
@@lorrainebeck9412 Of course! I hope you recover as fast as possible, just remember to stay positive and focus on your diet and trying not to sit down at all. ❤️💪
I am a pharmacy tech & fill many many, prescriptions for meds like tucks pads, colace, anusol hc, proctofoam, lidocaine. Never experienced them myself fortunately but I feel for those who have. Much respect for doctors caring for these patients.
I suffered with an external hemorrhoid for sevearal years. It would push out during a bowel movement. I would wet my finger and push it back up past the sphincter muscle and that would take the pain away. I finally took a picture of it and show my gastroenterologist. He scheduled surgery 2 weeks later. That took care of my pain in the ass. I don't remember having that much pain afterwards. I was just happy to have it gone. You don't have to live with it!
Hi Joe? Mine started small in 2011, it started popping out wen I went to poo and it would go back in by itself. After some years it's gotten bigger and very hard to push back in. I'm so fed up of life just for this 1 complication. I even developed an anal skin tag which I hate being with. Unfortunately I'm in Africa, Uganda where I can't seem to find a solution. I don't know what's going to become of me. It's keeps getting larger day on. At some point I thought I had rectal prolapse because surely I keep researching on this condition on the internet, at times I think I have rectal colon cancer or polyps. Alot of things related. What can I do to stop it from getting bigger? 😭😭😭
My husband and his entire family would talk about their hems every time they got together, often. He is 63 now. So, bothered by hems for his adult life until 2018. We changed our diet to a low carb, higher healthy fat, no wheat, normal protein lifestyle. It made all the difference. He hasn’t had hems or flare ups for 5 years. His mother died of colon cancer. It was difficult giving up bread and pasta for an Italian, but we found out he has a gluten sensitivity and 2 celiac genes. Our daughter also has a gluten sensitivity. When you find out what hurts you, it’s not so hard to give it up.
you make a good point about easily improving our diet when necessary. Note the whole gluten ordeal is caused by immune response to GMO's! I say that so you don't spend so much time eliminating other famous GMO food: tomato, strawberries, peanuts, wheat obviously, corn, soy beans... Usually the allergens are found as PROTEINS. (I've had an anaphylactic shock with ER Adrenaline shot and EpiPen shots prior so I avoid known triggers). Hopefully many folks find this truly beneficial. 👍

chia seeds! its the best, learn the balance with how much water you need. a small table spoon or 2. and plenty of water. its the best you can do. then take it from there. remember water or it works the other way.
I had really bad diet. always having junk food, living mostly on snacks, chips chocolate, i started having them when i was a teenager. constipation, diarrhea was common. I'm 29 now 2 weeks before my hem started acting up cus of severe constipation and pain, and for the first time in my life i get them checked, doctor recommended surgery, i got laser treatment done and shifted on high fibre diet, I'm on antibiotics and laxatives right now and having Psylium husk and cucumbers and yogurt, light bleeding is common but it is such a relief getting rid of them. I'm recovering and promised myself that i won't be eating white flour all my life, no junk food, only home based high fibre diet, stop lifting heavy weights, train your muscles, do cardio and exercise, don't spend too much in washroom. and stop having vegetable juices instead eat them raw, have yogurt always in ur diet. and have warm water always 2 glass when u wake up. sit in a squat position whenever u have a bowl movement, don't put too much pressure on ur anus area as it forces veins to swell up. If u feel warmth on down in ur spine then go to toilet otherwise don't. Never force yourself to poop, if u feel like u r constipated, have laxatives, but never ever put pressure on ur anal area it will make case much worse. Improve and focus on the quality of ur poop only by having good diet. Have barley bread daily with soft mushy vegetables with 2tbsp oil.
After I gave birth caused me so much discomfort down there for years! I finally got the surgery, best decision of my life! The healing was so hard and painful, words can’t describe, but all worth it! Took several months to heal, make sure to have a bath tub to soak.
I've been suffering since giving birth too...34yrs now! Painful and bleeding 😢 I heard having them removed is so painful but I'm glad you're doing better.
I took my haemorrhoids under control by two things: 1) ONIONS and 2)WARM WATER WASH DURİNG DEFECATION. I eat a medium/big size cooked onion every day. It is part of my breakfast. I sauté onions and crack two eggs on that. This is my breakfast. I never get constipated anymore. I wash down there with warm water while I'm on the toilet. I use water as hot as I can bear. My haemorrhoids are gone 100%
@@isaidit4720 I mean let's completely ignore the fact that they did recommend the natural remedies of eating more veggies and don't sit on the can for longer than necessary.
My experience with chronic hemorrhoids is the following. Make sure your diet has as low sugar as possible and your poop comes out without resistance in a gradual (automatic) movement (then you know the consistency is right). Diarrhea is the second worst, after constipation. Solution to Diarrhea: fiber, fat and meat Solution to constipation: fat, water, no coffee or alcohol, add leafy greens, movement Never sit on the toilet for longer than 1 minute! (If you have to go, it's over in seconds) Get yourself a Bidet and avoid using paper, except to dry. Squatting to poop is the best poop you will ever have (Indian style), go camping often hehe. Warm sitting baths at the first sign of discomfort and purchase a big bottle of witch hazel and glycol gel, mix 1:4(gel) Apply directly. Light exercises that strengthen legs, hips, gluts and back are good for strengthening. Best time for #2 is after exercising, because our digestive system as well as bowel movement works best after being mobile for a while. My chronic hemorrhoids show up twice a year, mostly after lifting heavy, but have never been as bad as before those points I mentioned. The biggest one was the size of a pigeon egg, it nearly killed me in pain. PreparationH cooling gel is the one and only over the counter product that works immediately and acts super fast in shrinking the little bastards.
I watched the previous video concerning hemorrhoids and took the advice about eating the bran buds - it didn't solve the problem completely but made a big difference. Was so thankful that I stumbled upon that video by chance.
"Witch Hazel" Don't know if this was answered already. "Hamamelis" is a deciduous shrub grown in New England where Native Americans cut the twigs and applied the sap to various injuries. In 1846 Dr. Charles Hawes started distilling the twigs which he sold as "Hawes Extract" in Essex Connecticut. In 1866 Thomas Dickinson refined the process even more and began selling Witch Hazel from several locations throughout the country. Today it's sold across the world by many companies.
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. I tried to manage for YEARS, changed diet etc. Had no choice but to schedule surgery. Recovery wasn’t as bad as some suggest. Down maybe 2 weeks but afterwards I was feeling like brand new. Surgery is scary however this was the best move for me and I have no regrets whatsoever.
@@zenitsu1995 it is not necessary however I implemented a lot more fiber (cereals/beans ) and eating more fruits on a regular basis as part of my daily diet. I can not explain how much better my quality of life has been.
I don't know what to do, I have the surgery scheduled in 3 weeks, I can still cancel it 😊. One internal hemorrhoid stage 3. Is it normal to feel pain/pressure in the adiacent muscles? Why is there pain after surgery, I understand inside there are no pain receptors.
@@Nina_user yes, you WILL feel some slight pain/discomfort however this is to be expected after a delicate surgery like this. Remember, this is only TEMPORARY discomfort. Mine was a stage 4 & I was tired of not being able to be “normal” after a bowel movement. Talk to your doctor, continue to ask all of those questions leading up to surgery. I wish you well and keep us posted on your progress. You got this!
I’m suffering from this for a long while now and I wanna go for the surgery but my family are just putting some fears in me,please help me,is it that simple??
I turned 61 and fell apart I’m in so much pain and on top of that I have heart failure and a fib just diagnosed and been on dialysis peritoneal manuals for 14 yrs. Every time I go to the bathroom I’m in tears Ty for the education
Here because I did this and didn’t realize it caused issues. :( it doesn’t hurt or anything and it looks like normal skin but I hate that it exists and I hope it goes away soon
Put your feet up on a stool so your knees are above your hips this opens everything up (down there) which makes pooping a lot easier follow a good fiber diet of course
*I've had external hemorrhoids for as long as I can remember. They come out every bowel movement. I remember the day I learned that it wasn't normal which was when I was 7 or 8 and told my dad that the thing that comes out when you poop isn't going back in. It didn't become a real problem until I reached my early teens and got interested in weight lifting. One day it inflamed, I was in pain for two weeks. Every since then, I've had a flair up almost every year that immobilize me for a week, it usually happens during the winter. Of course I've been to the doctor plenty of times, unfortunately it's too bad to do anything else but get surgery, the best they can do is give me medicine. So I've given up on seeing doctors about it, besides having it so long I've noticed some things that lessens the chances of inflamming it. Drinking lots of water (especially before sleep), eating fruits and vegetables (mostly fruits), exercising at least weekly, listening to your body, and being mindful about meat, alcohol, and processed food consumption. It's seems keeping the body more then well hydrated, doing things to improve blood flow and lighten the load off your digestive system really makes the difference. It's also a good practice to write down what you ate and write down how you feel throughout the day, especially if **_"listening to your body"_** sounds alien to you. You'll eventually develop a sensitivity to what goes into your body that will serve you.*
how long were you able to sit down for a prolonged time? It is going #2 that was painful or was urinating hurt as well? Please share more about the surgery and recovery process. I'm considering it, but I'm totally nervous based on what people say
I suffered for 20 years after I served in the Army, the VA gave me pills, creams and steroids but nothing worked. One day I read an article from a lady that plums will help you. I started to eat dried plums everyday like snacks in a few months they gradually disappeared. I have 13 years with 98% pain free and without hemorroids.😊😊😊😊😊
My currently situation right now I have been suffered for three years, I have been using the pill to insert and the cream but nothing changed, please I need an help
Interesting. How many plums were you having per time and how many times per day? Where I am, I have access to plums, but not really ripe. So I consume prunes (dried plums). Would prunes have the same beneficial effect, I wonder...
You guys are great. I am not a doctor, but I suspect hemorrhoids can be genetic. By the time I had hemorrhoids ,my uncle had had surgery to remove his, and my sister had the rubber band procedure, an absolute disaster. Not only did she have severe pain after surgery, but they became infected. I was grateful to find a doctor who injected mine with a steroid that seemed to shrink them. Adding fiber to my diet, avoiding popcorn, macadamia nuts as well as hot peppers, helped a lot. Hemorrhoids also blow up during monthly periods...advil was a lifesaver, along with warm baths. Now that I'm in my seventies and don't take ballet lessons anymore, I can happily say that hemorrhoids don't seem to be a problem.
Witch Hazel is a plant, and the Witch Hazel extract that you are talking about is an alcohol extraction of that plant. The plant contains a lot of tannins, which are what acts as the astringent.
Very strange that they didn't say that Hemorrhoids cause ITCHING and BURNING, just like the Preparation H commercial says. It's not always painful, just aggravating.
Yes I went to a doctor and she diagnosed it as pinworms. Asking if I feel them coming out at night. U No I don't but she still assumed that was what I had.
I have had them for 47 years, (since 15), internal and external, before children it was controlled, but after they became larger and more problematic. I had the banding but it broke halfway during treatment and I thought I was hemorrhaging. I have tried everything besides surgery, seen specialists and just learned to live with the pain and discomfort, discharge, and blood. One Dr. recommended Metamucil daily for the pain during bowel movements as it helps absorb acid from your poop for less discomfort, that has helped, but the biggest improvement was recently purchasing a bidet, to my surprise using it regularly has been a godsend and I finally after many many years am no longer plagued with them. Yes, they are still there and let me know every once and a while if I eat or drink poorly but it has been a total game changer! Sharing this if it can help someone else!
Also try castor oil, organic, hexane free,in glass bottle.Soak cotton ball and put on nightly,or whenever.Very soothing and shrinks them in about a week.
I’ve had them since my early-mid 20s and this past decade has been painful and embarrassing. When they first started, I bled at work without noticing and thankfully I rushed to the restroom before anyone noticed. After having a flare up, I now lay facing down for 20-30mins or longer. For me, laying on my back, sitting or standing after a flare up makes it SO MUCH WORSE. I also try to keep my legs warm since the blood flow feels off. I also try taking a warm shower to soothe the pain. Oh, and gas x helps in case there is lots of gas due to certain foods which aggravate hems. Lack of proper sleep is one of the worst things too.
High fiber diet (fiber pills recommended), don’t stay on the toilet for more than 5 minutes at a time, don’t force a bowel movement, & don’t wipe aggressively. I recommend a bidet.
This is why I think your channel is so great, covering all topics with humour and yet amazingly informative, breaking down barriers too especially for males who tend not to visit a doctor. Excellent.
People who are writing that it takes WEEKS to recover from a hemorrhoidectomy are crazy. Had it done. Fine in 10 days. Eat oatmeal every morning. No problem. Apple a day is great, too. Don't wait until you're 70 to get em fixed; do it when you're young & healthy. You recover quickly when you're young, not so when you're over 70.
Thanks for sharing. At what age to you get the surgery? How long were you able to sit down for a prolonged time? It is going #2 that was painful or was urinating hurt as well? Please share more about your surgical experience... I'm considering the surgery 😢😢
Fiber fixed my issues. I would suggest you mention when you increase your fiber intake, you should also increase your water intake. While Fiber fixed my issue, water was needed to keep things moving.
Informative video. Dr. Callan is my favorite of all your guests. She presents as someone who is kind, incredibly smart, and is sure to do a perfect job. If I was in Canada, all three of you would be my go-to doctors!
I just want to add what I found to be helpful in reducing bleeding hemroid pain. I bought a Bidet Toilet Seat that cleans with a stream of cold tank water. I’d say my hemeroids improved 99 percent. Prior to this I thought I was headed for surgery. Now I can rarely tell. I also stay away from toilet paper and just blot with a soft towel after use. Amazing.
Bidet all the way. I use less Toilet Paper, better for you wallet, easier on the plumbing and sewer system, less irritation, it’s a win win. I can’t believe Americans did not adopt the bidet decades ago, I know it’s still to this day a small percentage of what’s in Americans bathrooms. I don’t get it.
I'm a 19 year old and l have hemorrhoids and Fishers since 17 , l have no money to buy medicines your advice helps me to understand what l am going through now ❤ thank you
I m not a Doctor, but my experience is that the rhoids will flare when I had too much ginger or spicy foods, also Since I started Magnesium Glycinate supplement I hardly have the flare for while now. Also keep hydrated, fibre foods, fruits. The rhoid is another form of inflammation, so you need to find something to reduce inflammation that works for your body (every one needs is different)
I have poor circulation, with varicose veins. Even on my breasts, and my lip. I figure that means I am more apt, to get them. And, I have what I believe is a hemorrhoid, on the exterior. My gastroenterologist wouldn't even examine me. I asked to see a gastroenterologist/surgeon. They set me up with a proctologist. Well this guy did use a little scope on me. It was painful. He claims I don't have a hemorrhoid. Said, Probably my pelvic floor has fallen???? It hurts, itches, bleeds. I used to push hard to get anything out. Figured it is a hemorrhoid. If it looks like a duck, talks like a duck, type thing. If he has done this so many years, how can he guess? The acid someone in the comments mentioned. That acid burnt my skin, on the outside, till I had blisters. How can it not be a hemorrhoid??? So.. off for a second opinion, and ANOTHER person looking at my hairy, dimpled, old ass! Really embarrassing! I, also, have damage to my anus, from birthing a 10 pound baby, naturally! Not one doctor will affirm that. But, I was there, when a pie slice, of it finally came off. It is open, all the time. But, doctors won't listen.
I had a hemorrhoidectomy in March 2022 but I was very fortunate to be referred to a surgeon who was running a pilot pain mitigation pilot so the first week after the operation was almost pain free. Basically I carried a over the shoulder bag around for the week that contained a small pump that delivered a local anesthetic to the relevant nerve cluster via 2 needles embedded in the side of my butt. I was so grateful. After the week it was removed but while it was then uncomfortable for a couple of weeks it was nowhere near the nightmare I had been told to expect by a couple of friends who had had the operation previously.
my doctors continued comments from bleeding with pooping "stop pushing so hard"....i ended up in hospital for a blood and iron infusion...i lost so much blood over a year and got internal banding because it was serious......GP's are very ignorant and some to this day are still telling me to "not push hard and that will fix it".
Difficult bowel movements, constipation, is a thing and I would presume that lengthy straining can be causal. Most people are low in Magnesium. I'm surprised that you didn't comment on that?
I used to have hemorrhoids off and on since my 30's til late 40's. However, I started doing intermittent fasting(20 hours fasting 4 hour eating period) around age 48 and I haven't had one since.
I am in my seventies, and I had haemorrhoid surgeries some 30 years ago. Recently, it has started to bother me again. It is not the pain but the unrelenting itch that I am suffering from. The itch gets intense as the night progresses. I get relief with the Cera V cream, but l want a better cure and not a temporary fix. I also, suffer from some swelling with the itch. Thank U.
I had a hemmoroidectomy, and recovery wasn't as bad as they mentioned. Pain management was good, as well as bowel movements. Was back to light duty work after 2 weeks, fully recovered by 6 weeks
You got lucky then. I suspect it depends on if they're external or internal. I had both. And boy oh boy let me tell you that recovery was something else.
@@RakibHasan-hs1me they only gave me enough of the heavier hitting painkillers for a week. After that I was kind of on my own. I wasn't really on any medication after that except anti-inflammatories like Tylenol.
As someone who has had a hemorrhoidectomy for external hemorrhoids I can attest to how painful it is. I have never experienced pain like that in my life. Remember, you don't stop using your butt just because you've had surgery. It felt like I was shitting glass every day for a month after surgery. I was convinced that the surgeon used a chainsaw for the surgery. You don't want this surgery if you can avoid it, trust me! As the good doctor said, either shit or get off the pot!
It was more like shitting glass for 2 and a half months for me, and even then in the 2 months since, things are still not completely healed yet though are much better. Going for pelvic floor physical therapy soon due to ongoing complications
OhMG! Thanks for sharing... I have a surgery planned for December, and that video out of nowhere pops up on my feed.... I guess it's God way of telling me to think twice 😢😢
I tried these steps: 1. I like Kellogg's All-Bran Bran Bud Cereal. Make sure to leave it in milk or water for couple mins for it to get a bit softer. 2. Don't try to push hard when you go do your popping:) Just take it easy. Easy to say than done for this step.
My grandfather put up with piles for 25 years and when he ended up in hospital to get his water works fixed they caught up with him and fixed him up. They were so bad that he had something like a bunch of grapes hanging out the bottom. All the student nurses were trooped in to see it and he says a doctor kept coming in daily to hook more out before they tied them off and snipped them.
I had poop blood for two weeks, and sometimes bleed and sometimes not. And then I consulted a surgeon and confirmed I have Grade 1 internal hemorrhoids. The surgeon prescribed me some Daflon pills and suppositories, I don't need to do any surgeries at all! Thank god I seek help earlier and the get the situation under control soon! Just eat more greens and fruits, drink more water to soften the poop and walk more. It will be fine.
@preshyudoh It's stool and blood were seperated, blood are bright red and able to wipe on toilet paper. The bleedijg situation had continued for over a week.
My doctor also told me to make sure you drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. That helps to ensure you're not getting too dehydrated which can lead to harder/more dense poo, which means potentially more straining and makes the hemorrhoids worse.
@@TheBoobanhad poo turns into golf balls not good !. soft poo and the bowl squishes cannot push it so it stays inside you longer causes cancer long term . Hard poo traps farts and causes pain balls of poo get stuck per se stay to long . Fibre n water baby fibre n water !
Well done! Funny and educational. I'm nearly 60 and been vegetarian since I was 18. Because I have a tendency to a sluggish intestinal system, most mornings I have a home-made mix of fibres: psyllium (about a third soluble or gelling fibre) oat bran, wheat bran (and wheat germ for good measure): about a tablespoon of this mix on breakfast cereal each morning does make a difference. Stools are easier to pass. I make the mix once every few months, keeping the wheatgerm, especially, and bran in the freezer for logevity.
I usually mind my own business… but similar to you I have a mixture too. I make it in a large jar each time. About 40% the jar is a natural chunky peanut butter. About 40% is whole wheat or oat fibre. Then about 10% natural honey and 10% flax seed oil. Try to get a big teaspoon twice a day… usually on a cracker. The fibre is great for your gut, the peanuts are great for your testerone and flax seed is great for your arteries and cholesterol.
I could never eat all that. LOL! But...knowing I need my fruits and veggies and fiber...I started putting all that healthy stuff in the dehydrator. When it's good and dry, I use a coffee grinder to turn it into powder. All the veggies in one powder, fruits in the other. Then I put it in capsules that I can take daily, plus use some of the veggie powders in soup broth, gravy, etc...and the fruit is good sprinkled over ice cream or mixed in a lemonade smoothy. Added bonus: I'm not throwing away produce anymore. I used to buy it with good intentions to eat it all, but it'd go bad before I could finish it. I'm just not a good veggie eater and most fruits make my teeth hurt for some reason. (But ice cream doesn't. I know, it's weird...lol)
@@Redcouriercat Wrong. I eat very little sugar and carbs because I'm hypoglycemic. I mostly eat protein like eggs, chicken, and cheese. Keep your wrong assumptions to yourself.
About witch hazel: I originally was going to blurt out how I often use witch hazel as an astringent, but blanked when I realize I didn't know why that is, or what it comes from. A trip to Google》Wikipedia showed me that witch-hazel, or winterblooms, are plants with antiseptic and astringent properties. My use of it was passed down to me from my family, so I never questioned it because it always worked for what we needed it for. Now, it'd behoove me to know why.
As a sufferer in the past I have found that the greatest benefit has been from staying hydrated (drinking enough water throughout the day). I do try to have a healthy diet with adequate fibre but or me this has a much greater and more predictable (when I don’t have enough water) effect than the amount of fibre I have.
Awesome video. These videos make home treatment without having to seek for it possible. Kind of an embarrassing subject and as my symptoms aren’t that severe I’ll just try the fiber, water and short toilet strats. Thanks again!
I agree with you guys. I started psyllium husk tablets and started focusing on fiber. Used Prep H to manage it. And as the fiber kicked in, I spent less time on the seat and less straining. I feel things are getting better over time. I also started drinking prune juice but not too much as I started getting acid reflex. So a half a glass at dinner every day at the most. When having bad days, taking sitz bath in warm water and massaging area.
I had hemorrhoids for years in my twenties due to IBS. Also had diverticulitis and generally poor gut health. I believe that this was due to the standard American diet, high carbs, and antibiotics. I cured my IBS and hemorrhoids by going to a low-carb diet and doing a coffee enema about twice per year. I've had completely normal gut health, bowel movements, and no hemorrhoids ever since.
@@VasiliZgRROther way around. Gut problems cause hemorrhoids because constipation causes excess pushing and stretching while diarrhea causes tissue damage from acid.
Okay - a guy goes in for a coffee enema. A few seconds after it's in, he grimaces in pain. The nurse asks him, "is it too hot?" He winces and replies, "no, it's too sweet!"
What has helped me 100%. Changed how, what and when I ate. I invested in a bidet attachment. I don’t sit on the toilet for long periods of time. And used ointment, outside and in. I use the bidet to this day. I will still get a flare up here or there but they are manageable.
You guys crack me up! This is the best educational medical channel on RUclips. You make the medical community seem so “normal” (“Whatever your normal is” 🤣) I watch all of your videos even though the condition being talked about doesn’t usually apply to me , “just in case” I encounter the situation in the future. Keep up the great work.
These guys are quacks. They dont know how to think, only what to think. A little reading on the subject will reveal plenty. Fiber is counter indicated in the human diet. It has nothing to offer, except causing constipation.
All this is true. A nurse told me when I was in the hospital with my first child, you can push the hemorrhoids back up, over the rim. Cleanliness first. Do it while lying down for the night. The blood starts flowing! Gotta do it a few times.
Witch Hazel gel applied after each movement is great. In addition to only going to the loo once I know I have to, to cut down the time on the loo to just a minute or two. And of course no straining, which is where the fibre helps. This has made me free from symptoms.
Thanks for the discussion but would you also include post surgery pain management? These surgeries usually produce great pain for weeks or months on end so how is a person supposed to live with it without real pain medication? Thanks
4 grams paracetamol, 1200mg of ibuprofen. Keep your levels up, take regularly as prescribed. Make sure your stools are easy to pass, or, iow: eat fruit and veggies in overdrive.
Another interesting and informative show. While I’m not a medical practitioner, I would add staying hydrated to the list of ways to avoid or treat hemorrhoids. Thanks for all you do to keep your audience informed and up-to-date.
Yep, not enough water (and not going to the toilet when nature calls) make your intestines retrieve water from the stool=>making them harder to pass which leads to more pressure and most likely hemorroids
Water is the key to so many good health benefits, yet most people like myself, only drink it when thirsty instead of chronically like it should be consumed.
Kudos to you for providing important information in a fun, non-scary format. This topic is one which I am sure most people are not comfortable discussing. I know that hemorrhoids are very common from my own life experience and people need to know that to remove the stigma. I am glad that you presented very simple changes people can make on their own to deal with this situation. I think most people today want to find the quickest, easiest fixes to their problems rather than tackle the root causes of them. Thanks again for making these types of informative videos.
It could be a bacterial infection. I had hemorrhoids really bad a few years ago. I was in my late 20s and my gastroenterologist suggested surgery after they didn't go away for 8 months. However, I had really bad food poisoning about 1 month before I got hemorrhoids. My stool also changed to be softer and smelled really bad. I suggested I might have an infection but my dr dismissed me saying he tested my stool already. However, my professor (Harvard researcher) for my microbiome class told me that most gut microbes cannot be cultured. I went to a different doctor and got a broad spectrum antibiotic. Hemorrhoids went away after a week and never came back. The gut microbiome is so diverse and it's difficult to tell which ones cause issues. However, if you are like me and have hemmroids after food poisoning and you notice smelly stools, consider a bacterial infection. This won't show up on testing either.
@@RastaRasBeamer Yes, I used a broad spectrum antibiotic, in my case amoxicillin for 7 days. I had amoxicillin because I can't take doxycycline. Avoid yogurt, other probiotics, and dairy during the week taking the antibiotics. Your PC may or may not be open to this idea because it's an off label use. But if you had the same symptoms as me after food poisoning it's worth trying.
Bro what did you do to remove hemorrhoids and go back to normal, my swelling is on another level, after each constipation, there's Blood coming with the hemorrhoid breaking
@@Mubeeenmohamad I had the exact same thing it was soo painful 😣 I'm sorry you are going through this. Keep in mind, this was after I had food poisoning. I took 7 days of amoxicillin. Your doctor will probably be reluctant to do it but it's definitely worth a try if you noticed your hemmroids started after food poisoning.
I usually have real bad pain in my prostate it throbs on and off... I had a colonoscopy I was never told about my hemorrhoids, because I became disabled and lost my stress, that killed my hemorrhoids... since I don't stress I'm hemorrhoids free, I'm very happy now...
I had horrible ones caused by pregnancy that i just had surgically removed last week! Surgery recovery is more painful than the hemmerhoids themselves but so worth it to feel normal again and not deal with them.
Coming out of US Army basic training in 1972 at the age of 22, I had hemorrhoids from limited diet (I was a vegetarian then and still am.) a chiropractor suggested using raw garlic pieces inserted in the anis, either coated with olive oil or even saliva. You can put longitudinal cuts in the piece for greater strength. Garlic is astringent. My hemroids went away within a week or so and have never been an issue in the last 54 years of my life. WARNING: farts become room clearing events.
The advice to not force it and not take too long on the toilet clues us in to a fundamental issue behind hemorrhoids and how to pass waste in the first place: we are not actually designed to pass stool while sitting, but while squatting. The end section of the large intestine naturally kinks closed while standing up, to easily keep it in until we are ready. It only fully unkinks if we get down in a squatting position, just like humans often did and do in more primitive settings. Trying to pass waste on a sitting toilet usually means we have to force it past a (perhaps) partially kinked intestine, which is a proverbial "grinding of the gears". Do this long enough and hard enough, and there will be much more wear and tear than necessary. Fortunately, there are ways around this to do more biomechanically correct movements. You can try leaning *all* the way forward while on the toilet (resting your chest on your legs and knees), or using a squatting stool to rest your feet on to approximate a squatting position on a Western sitting toilet. You can improvise, or purchase a dedicated squatting stool that may fit neatly under your toilet, depending on its model. And in Eastern and African cultures, squatting as a regular form of sitting is alive and well. I was amazed to see that Russia has modern squatting toilets, where the bowl is flush with the floor and you are expected to squat naturally over them. Looks like our Western architecture has a lesson to learn. Of course, most modern folk may be out of practice for squatting. We all do it as toddlers, but sitting in chairs instead of squatting while growing up leaves certain muscles and tendons underdeveloped. Thankfully, we can catch up with some stretching/mobility exercise. If you can't keep from falling backwards while attempting a squat, hold onto something vertical and rigid, like a doorframe or pole, as you stretch long unused tendons and strengthen muscles you may have never gotten to know before. Keys to squatting (and even sitting) more correctly are to pivot your hip backwards and put out your chest (which arches your back inwards), as a stable platform to center your upper body above. It may feel very unfamiliar, but there should be a satisfying sense of progress and getting to know yourself, and it will result in a far healthier bearing with yourself. We are built according to a design. Hemorrhoids are a symptom of going against this design, even unwittingly. Understand the design and follow its implications to understand what's behind many of our problems, what to do about it, and what unimagined possibilities await us.

I had 3 external and 1 internal surgically removed and one bandaged...the ABSOLUTE WORST PAIN I HAVE EVER FELT. The first bowel movement felt like hot glass trying to push through and I screamed and cried. Even the hydrocodone they gave me didn't help, but sitz bath provided some relief. I ended up in the ER because the pain was so unbearable that they gave me Oxycodone and that gave me the best pain relief. 3 years later and now I don't regret it.
One thing that helped get rid of the beginning of hemorrhoid's in the three of us in my family besides a good amount of fiber supplements was using about a half teaspoon of olive oil ever time we had tea or coffee. Doesn't change the flavor and other benefits of olive oil . Tell me I am crazy , but it works for us.
Trust me it's no laughing matter, I suffer with chronic pain from difficult childbirths and it really drags down my health. It's not just an age related disease, and childbirth is a common cause. The pain can be very severe, with headache, low grade fever, leg and foot pain from the circulatory issue. General malaise. It's no joke.
I’ve asked my gastroenterologist about surgery and he was against it. I’ve also had 2 family members have surgery and they regretted it because it came back and worse.
So.. I have an internal hemorrhoid that is partly sticking out. If I don’t sit on the bowl for a prolonged period, and get up after I think I’m done, some remnants will come out while I’m walking and especially during exercise (mortifying)…There is no pain, but pressure. I have colitis and believe that is why I developed this embarrassing problem that will not go away. A rubber bands seems awful - something you’d do to a large animal, not a human…
Now I finally know why I've grown those bloody hemorrhoids over the last 20 years, as the toilet is the place I sit at least for an hour every day because this was the only place my ex allowed smoking and is still the place I regularly visit to read books in peace. I will heed your advice from now on and will set a 5 minute alarm to change my habits. Thanks a lot!
Good video docs! I am a member of slow poopers club, since childhood. No hemorrhoids yet at 48 but I have been trying to limit my time over the past years, great info again 😊
@@double_joseph327 Yes I’ve had external hemorrhoids as well and it’s not fun very painful as well they will go away but you have to find your magic spot with fiber and don’t strain on the toilet bowl and it will go away. drink plenty of water throughout the day too.
Best Recommendation For People with such conditions. 1. Make sure you chew your food thoroughly before swallowing. This helps your digestive system and softens your faeces during bowel movement. 2. Seccondly is take in alot of water. Every morning you must drink water to freshen your system up. Drink water after meals too. Just make sure you drink a lot of water during the day. Water helps softens food digestion and hence makes bowel movement painlessly cus the poop becomes soft and sometimes watery. When you practice the method, you'll never feel pain or discomfort ever again. And it'll all shrink in size over time. The above helped and i just wanted to share because being in such condition is very terrible. Thank You.
I think another thing that can help a little is to try to poop at least once a day and at around the same time. I think it helps to prevent constipation and makes bowel movements more easy. I sit down and after about 10 seconds (depending on how bad I need to go) it just happens without any straining at all.
Pregnancy and childbirth has led to a lot of trouble with hems for me. I have them, multiple. They flare up sometimes, bleed only occasionally, can be uncomfortable but I wouldnt say they are debilitating in pain levels unless Im constipated and cant poop. Tried treating with external creams for weeks with absolutely no change, keep my fibre intake up and drink LOADS of water to keep things soft and and moving. Witch hazel is an absolute godsend if and when they do flare up, but honestly canr wait to get them surgically removed one day even if it is a long and painful recovery 😳
Post surgery for external hemorrhoid was extremely painful. Soaking in Epsom salt helped. But what helped the most was a doctor prescribed topical numbing ointment, which I received several weeks after surgery. That ointment should be given to you from day 1 post-op!
I could never figure out why hemorrhoids aren’t called “asteroids” and why proctologists arn’t called “astronauts”… maybe you guys could explain this some time.
@btingey -- that brings to mind an old joke. You might need to be older to understand it. Here it is: "what do the Starship Enterprise and toilet paper have in common?"
Used to have really bad haemorrhoids, when i was young i didn't like to eat any vegetables and sitting in the toilet for very long time, now i eat alot of vegetables and fruit never have any problems with it again. This is very accurate
Does it recover manually or what?
Fascinating question. As an 80 year old internal hemorrhoid sufferer, I’ve seriously wondered myself? 🤔🧐🤓🤷🏼♀️
@@michelenichele294 Here's more to ponder, on a different topic: If high levels of LDL in the bloodstream is one of the main drivers of the formation of atherosclerotic plaques on arterial walls, please explain the following:
1) Since all cells in the body are constantly striving for homeostasis, and are very careful with what they let in and out of the cell membrane based on the ionic balances and immediate needs of the cell at any given moment, why would the endothelial cells of the arteries pull excess cholesterol from the LDL molecule in the bloodstream and deposit it behind it to accumulate and eventually create a plaque?
2) Since there are very tight junctions between these endothelial cells, the cholesterol cannot make its way behind the endothelium around the sides of the cells
3) What biologic mechanism is causing the cholesterol to leave the LDL transport molecule? There has to be a receptor site waiting to accept it. Being a lipid, it is not just floating freely in the water based fluid of the blood
4) The endothelial cells of the circulatory system are the same throughout. So why do these deposits and plaques only occur in certain areas of the systemic arterial system and NOT throughout? So, for instance, very rarely in the pulmonary arterial system, unless there is pulmonary hypertension, and NEVER in the venous system, UNLESS the vein is pulled and relocated in a high pressure area like what is done in a coronary artery bypass graft
5) A significant proportion of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts are performed on patients that have normal to low LDL levels or have been on statins for years
So likely because the bacterial load is low enough to cause bacteremia rather than septicemia. Our bodies are able to deal with a certain volume of contamination. Also being a venous rather than arterial source may contribute. Great question though
@@TalkingWithDocsThat being the case, what about immune compromised patients with hemorrhoids?
@@michelenichele294 Yeah what he said.

R there any risk or complications in the long run?
Dam dude just shove it back huh lol that's ah trip glad it got removed I got one rn it just feels like I got ants in my pants

I had really bad diet. always having junk food, living mostly on snacks, chips chocolate, i started having them when i was a teenager. constipation, diarrhea was common.

Coffee causes constipation so avoid!!
My experience with chronic hemorrhoids is the following.
Make sure your diet has as low sugar as possible and your poop comes out without resistance in a gradual (automatic) movement (then you know the consistency is right). Diarrhea is the second worst, after constipation.
Solution to Diarrhea: fiber, fat and meat
Solution to constipation: fat, water, no coffee or alcohol, add leafy greens, movement
Never sit on the toilet for longer than 1 minute!
(If you have to go, it's over in seconds)
Get yourself a Bidet and avoid using paper, except to dry.

Thanks for the history lesson.

You guys are great. I am not a doctor, but I suspect hemorrhoids can be genetic. By the time I had hemorrhoids ,my uncle had had surgery to remove his, and my sister had the rubber band procedure, an absolute disaster. @@mygirldarbybidet what is this please tell me in detail
What can wiping aggressively do ?

Well said
I have poor circulation, with varicose veins.
That sounds interesting. I wish they offered this to everyone!
my doctors continued comments from bleeding with pooping "stop pushing so hard"....i ended up in hospital for a blood and iron infusion...i lost so much blood over a year and got internal banding because it was serious......GP's are very ignorant and some to this day are still telling me to "not push hard and that will fix it".

About witch hazel:
I originally was going to blurt out how I often use witch hazel as an astringent, but blanked when I realize I didn't know why that is, or what it comes from.

Can hemorrhoids cause gut problems? Such as uncomfortable feeling in your stomach, gas problems? Wondering…
@@VasiliZgRROther way around. Gut problems cause hemorrhoids because constipation causes excess pushing and stretching while diarrhea causes tissue damage from acid.
Okay - a guy goes in for a coffee enema. A few seconds after it's in, he grimaces in pain. The nurse asks him, "is it too hot?"
He winces and replies, "no, it's too sweet!"

Bingo!
Yep, not enough water (and not going to the toilet when nature calls) make your intestines retrieve water from the stool=>making them harder to pass which leads to more pressure and most likely hemorroids
Sitting too long while younger and not hydrating enough were my culprits.
Any info on the antibiotics you took? Your info is very informative and I would like to see if I can talk to my doctor about it
@@RastaRasBeamer Yes, I used a broad spectrum antibiotic, in my case amoxicillin for 7 days. I had amoxicillin because I can't take doxycycline.
Witch-hazels or witch hazels are a genus of flowering plants in the family Hamamelidaceae, with three species in North America, and one each in Japan and China. The North American species are occasionally called winterbloom. Wikipedia
Is their a laser treatment for external hemorrhoids? And is the recovery less painful?

The Standard American Diet. Aka the SAD diet is the problem.
It sure is
I got them when I was pregnant with my oldest when I was 19. They’ve never gone away in all this time. He’s nearly 30 now.
I’ve asked my gastroenterologist about surgery and he was against it. I’ve also had 2 family members have surgery and they regretted it because it came back and worse.

I have colitis and believe that is why I developed this embarrassing problem that will not go away. A rubber bands seems awful - something you’d do to a large animal, not a human…

I think another thing that can help a little is to try to poop at least once a day and at around the same time. I think it helps to prevent constipation and makes bowel movements more easy. Pls what is the name of the numbing ointment?
This video was informative in a entertaining way. I love it. Thank you!
I could never figure out why hemorrhoids aren’t called “asteroids” and why proctologists arn’t called “astronauts”… maybe you guys could explain this some time.
Lol!
That is a clever idea 😁.
Because there's only 1 s in both of those words. Wouldn't work.
@btingey -- that brings to mind an old joke. You might need to be older to understand it. Here it is: "what do the Starship Enterprise and toilet paper have in common?"
..... "they both fly by Uranus and pick off klingons "
