I have a dear friend who has just found out she has rectal cancer. She had constipation following following a surgery she had earlier this year, and then soon after that she thought she had a hemorrhoid. When she went to the doctor in the Spring and told them about the hemorrhoid, they just said that that's very typical after a surgery, from the constipation, and didn't do an inspection. When she went back for a physical recently, she told the doctor that she thought the hemorrhoid was prolapsed. As soon as the doctor examined it, they knew it wasn't a hemorrhoid and immediately referred my friend colorectal specialist. The specialist confirmed that it looked like cancer and the colonoscopy that followed showed it was inside the rectum. She still hasn't gotten the staging yet because the insurance company is taking their sweet time to approve the necessary imagining, but I can only imagine how much better things would be had her primary care provider just examined it in the Spring. I know that everyone says this, but this shocking diagnosis could not have happened to a kinder or more sincere person. 😭
Knowing how much bacteria the bowl contains I’m really surprised that bleeding at the end of a stool doesn’t more often cause bacteria to colonize the blood stream and become sepsis. It’s good that the body is able to maintain that separation when the mucosa bleeds superficially
Wait till you get old. Something as simple as a UTI can be life threatening to geriatrics and immunocompromised people. It gets worse when the patient underestimates their symptoms and become more septic over time.

Thanks Doc! You are a born teacher. I'll be sharing with a friend because she's survived Lymphoma last year but now has Ulcerative Colitis. Her gut was destroyed by the chemo and evidently Doctors here don't talk about healthy gut bacteria!
Ulcerative Colitis is an autoimmune disorder (currently trying to get my first flare under control), so i highly doubt her chemo-treatment had anything to do with it 😕 However, i'm so happy to hear she survived the Lymphoma! Yay! 🥰

Such a sense of repugnance stems from a biased view of what constitutes beautiful and 'nice' for humans to engage with. Unfortunately, human anatomy is not one of them because it entails gross smell and quite disgusting visuals, especially for a faint hearted. I do think this bias is the reason why it is worsened, though.
I've been having digestive issues since I was 10 and that's when I got my first hemorrhoids. My parents were concerned because they thought somebody was doing bad things to me. It's been a recurring issue ever since and there has been blood. I started taking Metamucil a couple years ago and that helps a lot.
Same, but I've almost never had constipation maybe once a year. My bowl moment has been very regular, once a day. Rarely had diarrhea. The bleeding is always followed by a slightly hard stool. My assumption is that I don't drink enough water daily (less than a liter).

I have had the odd external haemorrhoids over the years, one in particular that’s pain was horrendous. I had read about massaging them back where they came from. I would say over the years I may have had about 8 -10 of them. I am 65 now. I would massage it back where it came from each day while showering. Usually on the fourth day, I couldn’t find it. Worked for me every time. I had one internal one and used the appropriate cream, that worked well too.
I have crohn's disease and for me, rectal bleeding was and still is sometimes a common symptom when I'm stressed or in one of the "bad phases". I can proudly say that I had everything that was talked about in this video myself 😂 (no cancer, thank god). The thing that helped me most werent any sorts of meds, it was changing up my diet drastically (so i really felt it, when you said this kind of disease changes your life). The change in diet really safed me. If you have problems / symptoms really get checked out! And if they persist, dont just take meds and hope it gets better this way (most often you only treat symptoms and not the root of the problem, which is a problem), go to a dietitian and get professional help! No meds, no side effects! But take your meds obviously if you need them. Changing your diet is just one really good way of reducing or eliminating the need for medication!

I spent 3 nights in the hospital until my potassium was level, which was life threatening to low, was back to normal range. It was an eye opener. I'm 64 and a half and would like to be around a lot longer. I'm having a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy in October. Yes, the hemorrhoids are a pain in the!!!
If your blood is bright red, comes out in clots or is dark, and is not from hemorrhoids, be worried. Especially if you're dizzy, sweaty, and don't feel well.Go to the ER, have your labs checked and if your hemoglobin or hematocrit is low( hemoglobin less than 9 or hematocrit less than 26) you may need a blood transfusion or an immediate colonoscopy to slow and stop the bleeding. I worked on a critical care step down unit as an RN for 18 years and saw this happen many times to patients. If you're vomiting blood, go to the nearest ER and get checked out immediately, ASAP. You'll save your own life in the process.

My mother took blood thinners for a couple of years due to a history of blood clots. One day she went to the bathroom and blood was coming out instead of stool. They ran several tests at the hospital, but weren’t able to find a definitive cause. They took her off of the blood thinner and the problem stopped. She lived several more years without any gastro or clot issues.
lol a few years ago I started feeling really sick and was puking and having increasingly bloody diarrhea. Didn’t want to be “dramatic” and go to the ER but finally dragged myself to a walk in clinic after about two weeks. They told me to go to urgent care immediately, my heart rate was like 200+ bpm. Turned out to be a really bad ulcerative colitis flareup, i had to get a blood transfusion plus two IV bags of iron, hospitalized for 4 days. So yeah. Don’t wait for as long as I did, your poop isn’t supposed to look like barbecue sauce.

This video was very informative as I have had ulcerative colitis and would always be in pain and had lost so much weight I didn’t know what was going on with me I got it taken care of but I didn’t know what was causing it or how it happened this video gave me more understanding of how it happened
I overcame ulcerative colitis by dramatically detoxing and changing my diet. I used to take medicines, but they would only help for short periods of time. Eventually they pretty much stopped working. And so I did this (kind of dangerous) detox, where I lost 15% weight in a week time. I had a flare up only once in the year after my diet change, but have been completely healed for 11 years now.
My dad had blood in his stool and ended up having colon cancer. They took in of his 8 inches of colon out. He was lucky it didn't spread anywhere else. My mom insisted he went to the doctor right away. I'm glad she did.
Sometimes if it's hard and won't leave my behind, I put on a glove and dig it out. It causes blood to flow out of there, but I feel better afterwards. I can prevent it from happening again, by taking my medication regularly.
Wondering if you would consider doing some videos that relate to conditions specific to the elderly. There are a lot of us geriatric folks who could really benefit from these types of videos.
The SECOND you see blood, call your doc and get checked. DEMAND being seen by a gastroenterologist!! .. DO NOT assume it’s this or that. My sister assumed she had haemorrhoids for about 5 years. Doctors thought maybe endometriosis.. and so on… for about 5 years. She is now dying with stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized to her lungs, liver, stomach, diaphragm, lower bowel and spleen. She was 45 years old when finally diagnosed.
I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 20. Anyone with an IBD type condition has a much higher risk of colorectal cancer esp if you let inflammation go on untreated, so do not wait to get symptoms addressed and get colonoscopies regularly (I get one every couple of years) if you have one of these conditions, even if you're young. My last flareup went untreated for three months and I ended up in the ER - I recovered fine with medication and diet changes but take these things seriously. There comes a point where, even if symptoms seem minor, if they persist you need to stop thinking 'I'll just wait a little longer and see if it goes away' and go to your doctor.
I have Crohn's disease for about 4 years now and since I have the strongest possible medication ( drugs + biological treatment), since the bio goes in by needle, they always take blood and test it for the IBD markers, so I feel like most of the people get checked regularly , but yeah, don't underestimate it! I had probably discovered my IBD by a strangeforming near my anus....

Thank you! This video actually helped me pinpoint what is going on with me, at least a better look. I do have an appointment with a digestive health specialist, but my doctor has no clue and sent me to the ER a few times with no abnormalities on the ER front... But you mentioning the spasms matches up with what seems to be going on with me... At least I can mention it better to my digestive health specialist when I get in... This actually brings a lot of anxiety out of me... the pain is still there obviously, but seems to make me feel better now that I know or have an idea of what it could be and that it's not serious as of now...
I had H Pylori for about 15+ years without even knowing, it progressively gave me many of the symptoms in this video it’s a common gut bacteria apparently. At first I thought it was IBD so I reduced coffee intake, ate as fresh non-processed food as possible and aimed to get 8 hours sleep. But yeah to cure it I had to take 2 different Purses of antibiotics. My tummy is allot better now but I also have hiatus hernia 😒.
One day my poop was all black. And i panicked. But then i remembered i ate a whole pack of licorice icecream the evening before.. Apparently that can happen. Great video btw! I really appreciate it. I've had some bleedings from my behind for over a year, every now and then. Just a sharp pain and then bleed. I've not had a check-up yet and unsure if i should.
I saw the dr once I started passing just blood and no stool. Turned out I had Ulcerative Colitis. Luckily I've managed to control it and have had no issue for a few years now.
A bidet doesn't have to be expensive. You can just use a plastic bottle, make a needle-sized hole on the neck of it, fill with water and squeeze. Or buy something like a Culo Clean. Works fine.
Got a lota jug from Amazon - they use them in Asia to get clean as very often the sewage systems can't handle toilet paper. If I had space for a bidet, I'd get one. It's refreshingly clean! Thanks for the video - helps me understand better so I can tell my Mam, who is going through investigations.
Sphincter vs. rectal bleeding. It took me a number of years for me to make the connection. But, over Winter, I'd experience bleeding, sometimes, a lot. Not so much in the Summer. I figure it was from my weight fluctuation, 25lbs. up and down due to activity/inactivity. Then, it crept into my thoughts, "Winter ain't producing a lot of vitamin D due to the lack of sunshine on the skin..." So, I started taking vitamin D supplements. Well, what do you know! It only took a few days of supplements to bring the bleeding to an absolute halt.
I had hemorrhoids that were bleeding, so I had a colonoscopy and they said it was just hemorrhoids. Over 10 years later, I was having some bleeding again...bright red, and severe cramping and narrow stools, so I just had another colonoscopy and I found out I have Diverticulosis! Luckily, none of them were infected, but I have to be more careful about what I eat and I needed to increase my water intake. Although the prep is horrible for a colonoscopy, it's worth finding out what's going on inside our bodies! Don't assume it's just hemorrhoids.
Whenever I hear or get reminded of rectal bleeding. I remember the time I had a severe nosebleed for 3 weeks straight. At around the 2nd week I started getting pure red stool. Not small streaks of red or stains of red on the stool. No the entire stool was red like a fresh tomato.
I cannot believe you talked about hemmoroids. I had grade 3 internal hems prolapse last year. It was such a inconvenent and traumatic experience. So glad I did the surgery even recovery wasn't the easiest, at least I have my life back. This is a great video for a lot of folks, since I feel like it's a question that comes up a lot but always requires more information given when someone asks. I've used the phrase "You're going to have to be a little more specific" far too many times in this line of questioning when it comes to patient caretakers (I work in animal welfare, so I rarely have two-sided conversations with the patients themselves). At least humans don't get parvovirus.

in 2020 i was actually admitted to the hospital for quite the severe bleeding, because almost the entirety of the toilet was caked in blood. The thing is, when i arrived there, and the doctor went so deep he mightve actually found my soul in there, there was no clear wound to be found, as the bleeding had almost completely stopped. We talked again about what kind of blood it was, so i told him again that it was bright red and mostly unmixed with the stool. Turns out that while wiping, i had ripped open a blood vessel, which had accumulated quite some blood, which was positioned a few centimeters above it. The remaining wound it left, looked like a tiny little pinhole, which is why my GP thought it was a fistula, but the proctologist did not take notice of said wound because it had become so small by the time i arrived there. It was a pretty weird expierience, and something id definitely not want to do again, but it was a wild ride to say the least.

Topic request? There was a story in the daily mail (search daily mail for: Chris Evans Urologist for the article) where a urologist gave advice to a (ginger) guy about how to deal with 'the drip' as he got older. Apparently the urethra develops a slight u bend in it as men get older, below the bladder, causes urine to get trapped there, and causes problems. The urologist gave advice on how to lift this u bend. As this is something that's likely to affect all men at some point, wondered if chaps could do a vid on this?

Dude i had an experience of excruciating pain. I planted a very unusual huge dump and been sitting on toilet for 15mins. After it came out, it was a relief but i already felt like a tear when i walk out. All my strength were gone so i lay on bed for a while and didn't realize i fell asleep. When i woke up it was night already, after dinner it still hurts so i went to bed again and put cold compress on the bumhole(not directly), the frostbite distract me from the pain a little. 2 days after it's still painful, my thought is that it's becoming too serious. I was too shy to go to hospital checkup 😂 so i collect my courage, get some hand mirror and self check myself. It was awfully weird to do it by self, but i did found like a single blister by the hole. I was so nervous, it looks like a parasite that you see on stray dogs 🤮 but then i tried to gently wiggle it out and it fell lol. I was so curious about what it was, so i dissected it and it's not feces nor an insect parasite, it was a bloodcloth i think. But since it was gone, the excruciating pain from moving were gone, and the bearable pain slowly fades after a few days. From not on I'll be careful to go take a dump as soon as i feel i want to, so it won't stack so much 😂 and will never sit shittng for too long. 5-10 mins max is the goal.
I look at my output every time. It's key information on your health. I found my car keys once. I recently tried to see a gastroenterologist for a serious problem. Called many places. They could only fit me in 4+ months out. I guess routine colonoscopies are just too profitable.

I have IBD unidentified as the doctors arent sure which type it is (colitis ulcerosa or chrons disease). It is definitely life changing and in active periods of the disease its also very painful. People diagnosed with this disease are likely to have some of their bowel removed when (and i say when as the disease progresses and gets worse over time) the bowel tissue gets too damaged at some point in their life. IBD is an autoimmune disease, which boiled down is basically just your own body seeing your own tissue as foreign and therefore attacks it. Usually the disease comes in periods. Some people get treatment (usually steroids) and are symptom free for years until the disease relapses and symptoms (extreme diarrhea, bloody stools, intense pain, extreme urgency of emptying) comes back once again. Ive been symptom free for about a year now, but it can come back again at any time and im really not looking forward to it.

if you bleed bright red it's ok if it's dark red then your dying you have colon cancer simple💀💀
Bro, it feels like this channel exactly knows whats going on in my life, not too early and not too late 😵💫
my bowel movements been off for a few months now
Yes
Knowing how much bacteria the bowl contains I’m really surprised that bleeding at the end of a stool doesn’t more often cause bacteria to colonize the blood stream and become sepsis. It’s good that the body is able to maintain that separation when the mucosa bleeds superficially
Was thinking the same. If I remember correctly he's said in other videos that the intestines have a tougher wall agains't most bacteria, no?
Wait till you get old. Something as simple as a UTI can be life threatening to geriatrics and immunocompromised people. It gets worse when the patient underestimates their symptoms and become more septic over time.
it does do that, though.
@@thatguysky123 True. I'm an EMT. We took a 70+ year old fellow to the hospital where he died-- of a UTI! He told us he'd been uncomfortable with fairly mild symptoms like anyone would have throughout their lives from time to time, but it wasn't getting any better.
One thing I've learned-- don't be a trooper and ignore your symptoms. If it hurts, it means something is wrong. Don't try to be a hero and ignore your pain.
@@marydevonshire4655 While I've had a UTI in last few years, I has NO apparent symptoms. The discomfort in my lower back I took as Arthritic*Scoliosis relatedtil Practicing md tested urine & said it was a UTI.
Thank you for this video. I lost my mum to stage 4 colorectal cancer. It’s such a horrific and painful disease, 2 years of misery then she passed. Hopefully awareness saves lives.
So rectal bleeding got me sober and rushed to the ER. 😂 It was really bad hospital for a week. Sober 2yrs now.
That is awesome! One day at a time ❤
Thanks Doc! You are a born teacher. I'll be sharing with a friend because she's survived Lymphoma last year but now has Ulcerative Colitis. Her gut was destroyed by the chemo and evidently Doctors here don't talk about healthy gut bacteria!
Ulcerative Colitis is an autoimmune disorder (currently trying to get my first flare under control), so i highly doubt her chemo-treatment had anything to do with it 😕
However, i'm so happy to hear she survived the Lymphoma! Yay! 🥰
He's not a doctor. He has his Master of Physician Assistant degree.
Nattokinase supplement, milk kefir, Kimchi, etc. C19 is ruining the microbiome as well.
Lucky for her, if it will go too bad, she can get the bowel removed, which is bad ofc, but it gets rid of the trouble as well. Something I with Crohn disease cant do ... :/
@@cheecharron1244stress is the most destructive. Now think how often and how many people stress themselves these days, and you can see why IBDs are usually problem in developed countries....
Listen to your body! I had rectal bleeding and mucus discharge that I ignored thinking it was just hemorrhoids or something else. Finally went to the doctor was advised to get a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy found a very large cancerous tumor. I went through radiation, chemo and surgery to have my entire rectum removed. That probably all could have been avoided had I not ignored the symptoms I was having and done something much earlier.
It is so important to listen to your body and get screens.
How old were you?

Anatomy and Physiology! Most people say anatomy is disgusting, smelly and a lot things without recognizing it's keeping him or her alive 24/7 whole lifetime! Even as a student studying Physical Science I keep a good time to study Anatomy and Physiology because it's fascinating!
@@Seeker7257 I know it's disgusting for people from outside but it's inside everybody!

The physical world is disgusting.
I've been having digestive issues since I was 10 and that's when I got my first hemorrhoids. My parents were concerned because they thought somebody was doing bad things to me. It's been a recurring issue ever since and there has been blood. I started taking Metamucil a couple years ago and that helps a lot.
I have had these for more than a decade on and off as a 27 year old. Definitely going to see a doctor now
Might be IBD
Same, but I've almost never had constipation maybe once a year. My bowl moment has been very regular, once a day. Rarely had diarrhea. The bleeding is always followed by a slightly hard stool. My assumption is that I don't drink enough water daily (less than a liter).
@@PolineChan I had no symptoms besides bleeding and I was just diagnosed yesterday with Ulcerative Colitis. Please don't ignore your symptoms and see a doctor!
My Crohn's disease says hi. Thank you for talking about my fissures, hemroids and bleeding😊
How many times you go to the toilet? I have Chrohns but I go 2 times daily. With some blood
I had bright blood but it looked like I had a blood clot that came out I’m freaking out I pray it’s nothing serious
"Flushable" wipes are not flushable.
You are correct. Just take a wipe and put it in a glass of water. It will never dissolve as advertised.
Literally my first thought as he suggested wet wipes 😆
Nice try Big TP, your cabal is weakening and you know it.
I came to say the same. I use them but never flush them. Heard this directly from a plumber.
Actually they are. You are just not supposed to flush more than one. The intention is to use only one at the end of regular wiping
To think, and assuming that these organs once belonged to a functioning human being, those organs belonged to a human who had a life, a body, and a life full or memories.. so fascinating!
I have had bouts with diverticulitis. The last one the antibiotics killed all bacteria in my body. I ended up with C DIFF.

Get out of there! Do you know what goes in to the toilet!?
FYI - They might say flushable, but don't !!! They do not break down and will plug your plumbing !!!
I think them market them as 'Flushable*' and the smallprint for the asterix says 'only one at a time'. Marketing departments, excellent examples of humanity.
The local council where I live ran a billboard campaign "wipes clog our pipes" to try and get people to stop flushing them.
Hope this only applies to septic tank toilets.
Just because you can flush them, doesn't mean you should.
It’s true they don’t break down like toilet paper so the wipes can clog the drainage system.
_PSA:_ flushable wipes *AREN'T.*
It's false advertising, it's flushable the same way poison mushrooms are technically edible (once). Flushable wipes cause serious issues in the sewage system and make fatbergs down there even worse and more difficult to break apart!
My workplace put up signs at every toilet saying to not flush them.

Those “flushable” wipes mess up the sewage treatment facilities!
Unlike toilet PAPER, which breaks down before it reaches the treatment plant, wipes are made of PLASTIC and POLYESTER, which doesn’t break down.
Use them if you like, but throw them in the trash can.

Thank you! This video actually helped me pinpoint what is going on with me, at least a better look.
Is it possible it’s just a fissure? I thought I had hemorrhoids but it was just a fissure caused by over wiping and occasional constipation
I had H Pylori for about 15+ years without even knowing, it progressively gave me many of the symptoms in this video it’s a common gut bacteria apparently.
Bidets can just involve adding to existing toilet seat. I love mine!!
Then, it crept into my thoughts, "Winter ain't producing a lot of vitamin D due to the lack of sunshine on the skin..."
So, I started taking vitamin D supplements. Well, what do you know! It only took a few days of supplements to bring the bleeding to an absolute halt.
Latest studies show regular usage of probiotic products may case decreasing the diversity of GUT community living with us in our digestive system.
Always you are amazing. Thank you for the info.
When the stool is Black! I had a bleeding ulcer in my upper intestine and by the time I got to the hospital had lost half my blood. 😊❤

I always lead a healthy lifestyle with no alochol and lots of exercises at early 30s (but I did strain ans sat on toilet for long time on my phone). This ailment and experience were humbling... Human body is weird.
