The issue is not just with reps but with social media in general. The big brands just don’t get it. Yet this is one of the reasons Texas Whisky is doing so well, most of them understand the people side of brand awareness. This is especially true For Ironroot Republic Distillery.
I started my whiskey journey about 3 months ago because of y'all and this was my second whiskey after I had got a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. I liked it more than the Evan Williams but I recently picked up Wild Turkey 101 and it's my current favorite.
That's the most amazing description of a whiskey I've ever heard. As a audio engineer and AV/ Sound system designer. I get the frequency references more than your usual smell and taste notes. While in college, a buddy of mine and I would be trying to pick up women at bars. In order to not seem creepy(we now realize we totally we're) we would use the audible frequency spectrum as way to describe someone we were interested in. For example, picture a girl with a soft knee cut at 50hz, a wide Q boost at around 250hz. Flat across from 400 to 1000, a slite narrow q boost at 4khz and a nice shelf bump at around 15k. That would be a pretty girl, with nice calfs, a well proportioned low end, not to heavy with a nice upper mids and pretty face... Yeah I know now that it sounds creepy... But I now think of whiskeys in the same way. Or for that matter anything that I'm trying to analyze. And I've been happily married for 3 years to a beautiful woman with the same EQ curve I would mix lead guitars with...
This stuff is incredible. I just picked up a bottle tonight without even knowing it was on the Advent Calendar list. I am SO glad I did. Delicious bourbon.
Discovered this at a small liquor store near me, maybe 5 months ago. Its been my go to since. Your tasting "notes" make perfect sense, I was thinking more along the lines of The Doors (keyboard and bass analogy).
As my friend Jeff pointed out to me, this has a HARD hit of Fresh-cut Garden Hose when you open it. However, if you put it in a loose-top decanter for a while, the oxidation really mellows it out. Also, it's usually only $20 at costco; so that's awesome.
Love the way you present this. EC has become my favorite this past year. One word is all I need to describe it: Delicious! Love to take a straight sip & just let it rest in my mouth for a few. Savor it. Delicious!
As you said this is a classical bourbon...what I find most attractive is that this bottle is ALWAYS available at my local Indiana Costco for 22.99 ea. How great is it to have a great bourbon that is easy to find and extremely reasonably priced. Thanks for confirming my tastes...at least on this one.
I suddenly realized I needed to do a whiskey Advent Calendar... without having been able to afford a whiskey advent calendar this year... Very happy the Tribe did something different this year so many of us can tweak our daily pour for each day. I ended up doing my EC video just before Thanksgiving having been completely oblivious to the fact that day one for Tribe was Elijah Craig. It was one of Irene's barrel picks too, and was wonderful as expected. I'll be following along in my own "KillCo" kinda way, but I know I cannot afford to buy every bottle on the list. I know Monkey should well for tomorrow and will talk about my past experiences with it, but instead I will try and find a similar blended Scotch to make for tomorrows video.
As a professional (mainly jazz & classical) musician who’s has been slowly discovering the bourbon world, I was expecting you to start naming off specific pitches, intervals, or harmonies lol EQ and bands make a lot of sense! I just got a batch of this stuff for a holiday gift and hope my buddy (who digs smoother, wheated bourbons) likes it 🤞🏽
I tried this yesterday, usually a scotch drinker, favoring peted whiskeys.. venturing into bourbons, to me this tastes like i imagined bourbon to be. Classic creamy rich sweet bourbon. Also tried Longbranch but preferred EC.
So at first I was thinking Uriah Heap or Jethro Tull, but they both are bass balanced and then I thought... Thomas Dolby from the 80's. While Dolby used a bass beat heavily, it's mechanical and easily blanked out of the equation. I like this Daniel, please continue.
Interesting with the music notes! Personally I've always tasted stuff with more visuals than anything. When it's the baseline characters of stuff (in regards to wine or spirits) like "bright", "deep", "barrel", "fruit", etc, I tend to visualize a color based on what I taste. So a bright lemon-y base would be a bright yellow in my head, while deep caramel and cinnamon would be like a gradient of dark brown to light brown. Although sometimes an image would pop into my head suddenly to help me with the tasting notes. When I first tried scotch, it was the Ardbeg 10. Immediately I saw an image of cloudy, hilly plains with wisps of fog or smoke along the horizon. Those images made me fall in love with smokey scotch.
My favorite bourbon. Period. Keep trying to change my mind but haven't found it yet. Love EC! Btw.....my music preference is progressive metal. Symphony X, Dream Theater, Scardust. Nice video as always! Cheers!
Cool comparison of taste and music notes! What kind of tasting notes would you consider to be bass? I'd think that would be wood notes like oak, or earthy notes like peat or or smoke or molasses. Where would you consider things like cinnamon or caramel be?
instead of music I tend to default to color terminology but man, looking at it from a music point of view is a whole different dimension to the experience
I do the same thing with colours, instead of music e.g. earthy = brown, bright citrus = yellow, vegetal = green. I'm not great at picking out specific flavours, so I will write down a couple colours at the end of my tasting notes to sum up the whole experience.
Haha, woulda figured a man like you woulda picked the stage name of Mike Honcho, never pictured you as a Dusty Cinnamon. I also experience whiskies like I experience music, but I differ in that I only experience them vibrantly, but cannot describe those experiences well enough. The whiskies and music do the talking that I cannot.
Hey Dan, I’ve noticed the past couple days that Elijah Craig seems to be very responsive on Facebook. It might be worth trying to reach out on there to see if they’ll get back to you. I loved hearing the response from Green Spot on your other video and would love to hear more of them.
Funny coincidence: while watching a previous video of yours' (yorn?) I was thinking about Ardbeg, and thought that Uigeadail was like a progressive, slightly gothic metal band, and Corryvreckan was QOTSA.
Daniel. I want to hear the actual music. Play what your version of Elijah Craig that would be awesome. It might help people understand better. If the music is soft and slow vs death metal lol. Throw in a banjo for bourbon or bagpipes for Scotland. I dont know about anyone else but I'd listen to Laphroaig 10 year as interpreted by Daniel. And just give Rex a tambourine or triangle lol
What the heck... youtube shows that these and all the advent videos this year were uploaded just now.. like 23min ago. Still all the comments are 3 weeks old. Whats going on?
You're musical analogy instantly reminds me of the Pixar movie, "Ratatouille" when he's describing flavor via musical notes: ruclips.net/video/rLXYILcRoPQ/видео.html
I'm a guitarist/singer and that was spot on! I get it! By the way you are much better alone! When you have the other guy the mix is bad! I loose interest and I go elsewhere. You seem to be way more expert on the whiskeys! Change your program and do it alone! With the other guy your show becomes silly and disjointed; A bad music mix! Do your show alone and do what you did here!
Sad to hear about the reps crapping out. Someone really should have a marketing school to teach these guys how to sell and promote whisky.
If only there was such an institution somewhere in Texas... :)))
@@timshulepov near the world's first crowd-sourced distillery, mayhaps
Spectacular blue Jean jacket...Daniel. Absolutely fabulous

EC is my go to bourbon. Absolutely love it.

The music notes were spot on! 😂I’m a sound tech and guitar player, but new to whiskey and that nailed it!
Discovered this at a small liquor store near me, maybe 5 months ago. Its been my go to since. Your tasting "notes" make perfect sense, I was thinking more along the lines of The Doors (keyboard and bass analogy).
Love the music comparison. Know I’m coming to this super late, but just wanted to thank you as a musician myself
One of my first and favorite whiskeys
Very interesting review. Cheers! One of my favorite bourbons.

Elijah Craig is my # 1 sipping whiskey and at $33 for a bottle!!!!!
I really dig the music analogy. Definitely a cool way to look at it.
I like this whiskey and it's a really good price.
Love the way you present this. EC has become my favorite this past year. One word is all I need to describe it: Delicious! Love to take a straight sip & just let it rest in my mouth for a few. Savor it. Delicious!

Music notes are a nice change....keep it up! (I love Elijah Craig!)

My favorite whiskey. Under under 30$ . What a steal. Speaking for those of us that can't spend 100$ for a bottle.
Just picked up the barrel proof B519. My favorite bourbon so far. So deep and rich.
I tried this yesterday, usually a scotch drinker, favoring peted whiskeys.. venturing into bourbons, to me this tastes like i imagined bourbon to be. Classic creamy rich sweet bourbon. Also tried Longbranch but preferred EC.
Day three or the new year and i have nothing better to do, so time to watch the calendar.
So at first I was thinking Uriah Heap or Jethro Tull, but they both are bass balanced and then I thought... Thomas Dolby from the 80's. While Dolby used a bass beat heavily, it's mechanical and easily blanked out of the equation. I like this Daniel, please continue.
Whiskey "notes" just got a whole new meaning. Love it! :D
I'm a scotch guy but I ENJOY this stuff!
EC is EDM
My introduction to whiskey
Love it
Music notes are great. Maybe a recollection about what you remember drinking the whisk(e)y with friends and/or family.
Drank this for 2nd time last night during the week. Finish is strong, somewhat metal harsh.
Mix this Elijah Craig 2 to 1 with Macallan 12 sherry cask. A nice bourbon with a regal sherried highland finish
This is poetic.
This was the first bottle i bought when i turned 21.

deep purple - the ultimate keyboard heavy band

One of my favorites

Daniel you're the fucking MAN...we don't care what Rex says!!!

I was wondering if you were going to come up with some Kentucky blue grass tune...haha
Fun comparison!
Currently my favourite and also the most I've ever spent on a bourbon
Where's our calendar this year?!?! This is my favorite holiday tradition.
Hey Dan, I’ve noticed the past couple days that Elijah Craig seems to be very responsive on Facebook. It might be worth trying to reach out on there to see if they’ll get back to you. I loved hearing the response from Green Spot on your other video and would love to hear more of them.
Sharp notes that round out the edges?
damn it i had a bottle of elijah craig in my hand and put it back and grabed buffalo trace instead elijah sounds good...
Glad I found you guys. but, I would say Elijah Craig is more Drab Majesty and less Alice Deejay, lol.
Lance and i will often use the low mids and highs music reference for articulating tasting notes
To bad I'm tone def...
One of the better types of def, really.
Funny coincidence: while watching a previous video of yours' (yorn?) I was thinking about Ardbeg, and thought that Uigeadail was like a progressive, slightly gothic metal band, and Corryvreckan was QOTSA.
It would've been cool if you compared this one to the Doors, since ray manzerek did their bass parts on organ.
I dunno man.. At about 6:05, it sounds more like the synth keyboard from Better Off Alone.. ;)
Admit that's pretty good
For $20.99 in my neighborhood. It's great
more descriptions like this!

It's pretty sad they didn't want to do anything with the largest whiskey RUclips channel out there.
As if whisky reviews in themselves weren't obscure and niche enough... Let's do it specifically for music geeks 🙄
*Sips Elijah Craig Small Batch while listening to Alice Deejay*
Keeping with the musical reference i see this as machine head era Deep purple.
Piano heavy. Oh, like Supertramp. ;-)
What the heck... youtube shows that these and all the advent videos this year were uploaded just now.. like 23min ago. Still all the comments are 3 weeks old. Whats going on?
Yep, they all got posted at the same time just a few hours ago.
I was thinking Kansas lol
Man every time I drink Elijah Craig all I can get is brown sugar, brown sugar, brown sugar
Did you forget to release these videos on a specific day, and just did a mass dump instead?
“Let Go” by Frou Frou?
Hmmm. The Dusties would be a decent band name. Insiders would get the reference to dusty bottles.
How about Steely Dan??
I loved the 12 yo but I won't buy this since they removed the age statement. I assume you've had both, how do they compare.
Elijah Craig = Depeche Mode...?
For listening reference, Better Off Alone, by Alice DJ: ruclips.net/video/Lgs9QUtWc3M/видео.html
Daniel doesn't like sweet likes smoky rich. Hates sherried oak rye
You're musical analogy instantly reminds me of the Pixar movie, "Ratatouille" when he's describing flavor via musical notes: ruclips.net/video/rLXYILcRoPQ/видео.html
This video could be absolute bullshit, and most would never know. LoL!

Kinda sounds like the intro to Jump
