I work at a winery, and when we do barrel tastings and such, I always equate it to lows-mids-highs. So cool to see someone else interpreting it this way. I tend to like clear mids and dulled highs, and I really like this bourbon, so this is all fascinating to me!
I love this comparison of whisk(e)y to music! I don't always get the tasting "notes"(pun intended?) you guys find, but the musical notes totally make sense to me! Definitely missing Rex, but loving the advent calendar none the less!
I was pretty disappointed with Eagle Rare when I bought a bottle to try 6-8 months ago... it just didn’t do anything for me. But as the months passed and I drank it to get rid of it, something changed... I really enjoy it now, because while tasting like a bourbon, it doesn’t taste like any other bourbon. It’s a unique beverage.
Funny timing, this, since I just had my 1st taste of Eagle Rare at a local whiskey bar near home. Not bad, but it doesn't make me want to come around for a 2nd pour, until I've had a few others. Maybe I'm biased because I've tried Buffalo Trace a few times, and confirmed I don't prefer it.
Dave Matthews, NICE. When you asked it, I immediately went with Foo Fighters... Same thing. Catchy, and related to something good, but not an album I'm gonna go looking for.
Hey Daniel...Have you ever read the seminal marketing book Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind by Ries and Trout? One of the main points of the book is not to name your product what it is but rather name it "what you want it to do/be in the mind of the consumer." If you have not read it, I think you will enjoy it wrt Whiskey Marketing.
*LOVE* the audio analogy....I’ll never assess whiskey the same!!! 👍👍 Any insight to the rumor that Eagle Rare is going NAS? I was told this by the manager at my local big box store recently who told me to stock up on some of the 10yr marked bottles.
Considering I thrive in the darkness (Posted this at 3:30am) I see nothing wrong with night time things. I knew I couldn't find a mini of this due to the word "Rare" and I cannot afford a $40 bottle for myself with this holiday shopping season underway. I will try it someday for certain, but not for awhile. I did my Day 5 review of Bower Hill whiskey instead... they have a strange cork. ;)
Eagle Rare reminds me of the album "Yip Jump Music" by Daniel Johnston. In my opinion, Dave Matthews Band would be Pappy Van Winkle 23 yr. because i like the band but hate the fans.
Absolutely hysterical that you think Buffalo Trace needs any help with marketing. People stand in line for hours to buy their whiskey and in some cases pay up to 10 times MSRP for it.
Loving these Daniel only videos. It's so refreshing to hear him finish a point
Haha yep, I love Rex and all but...y'know?

This is probably the best review analogy I have ever heard. Well done!!!
Dave Matthews and Eagle Rare are some of my favorites... soooo I’m good with this!
Awesome show, as always! Tell Rex he's a mooch. Interesting tasting notes. Wood honey? Up in the north we call that maple syrup.
Eagle Rare JAMS like Dave Mathews! Haha great comparison
Love the music analogies.
Before These Crowded Streets... one of the classics.

Listening to Daniel just talking Bourbon....... Thank You!
Awww I just realized that I miss the old vault!
Best affordable Bourbon.

Your honkiness never went away
Omg Daniel is just precious ❤️
I like Eagle Rare and Dave Mathews, and I agree with you completely on both... Lol!
I heard the ocean when I put the glass of Eagle rare to my ear.
Eat, drink, and be merry... for tomorrow we die!

The Dave Mathews reference made me laugh. Lol

Daniel that beard is on point!
Fun entertaining video

perfect music match here, frat boy bourbon.
Top that dang bottle off Daniel!
Ants marching with a hobbit under the table and dreaming
Captain America: "I understood that reference!"
uh got to get me a drink
I always thought that Carter Beauford was one of the best drummers around. He seems like an octopus.
He is an outstanding drummer! Love the analogy and it works for me in describing eagle rare (which I really enjoy).
I've used the Dave Matthews Band analogy to describe a certain Canadian Whiskey that lots of people love and think is royalty/rare. :)

When I think mids, I think smashing pumpkins big muff guitar tone. But I don't know if that represents the bourbon to you.
Daniel, what type tasting glass are you using here? I'd like to get a few for my bar.
Please put the rest of that into an infinity bottle....put it out of it's misery. :-)
I wish the music analogies made sense to me
So you have to be in the mood for it, is what I hear you saying? Lol
I can’t find any eagle rare10 sad part is. I owned 4.
I was going to guess Buffalo Trace was the one that said they didn't have anyone.
love you daniel, just wanted you to know that
U know this whisky was rare in 1975 :) when it was first released i guess
Nice to see you let your hair down
Hey man leave my watchtower alone lol.
Damn good drummer though.
Sounds more like ACDC to me
Keep up the musical note comparisons. Amusing, but makes some weird sort of sense.
I mean.. those few drops you left in the bottle. Seems like some kind of a crime.
good stuff the cult inquisition chapter forgives yesterdays heresy but dont let it happen again lol ;P
Are you saying “I Drink Too Much?”
You look better with dim lighting..
😂😂😂😂😂

It must be ok, bottle looks about empty.
DMB = guilty pleasure? 🤨

i would say more hootie and the blowfish rather than dave mathews
