I went to Scotland last April and went to a distillery tour at Oban. Their team is so great and top notch. We had a great time learning this process they use to make their whiskey. I grew up in a very religious non drinking household but left that religion a couple years ago. So here I was at 36 trying scotch for the first time at Oban. It was an incredible experience and has been opened my world to so many new flavors.
I lived there for some years, and this makes me happy! Oban feels much closer to the islands than the rest of the mainland when you're there too, so it's intriguing that that aspect comes through in the whisky!
Oban 14 is one of my favorite whiskeys because it's a great introductory whiskey because it isn't too intense. What I love the most is it feels like a whole new experience where I pick up something different through the smell and palate every time. Sometimes I taste more fruity like apples/pears/figs with some honey, other times I might get more smokey/spicey or I might get more peaty/briney/citrus
First off, s/o to my barber Robert, who deadass looks just like you (I know you get this a lot but I’m serious 💀) for introducing me to scotch. I collect them like Pokémon now just so I could review them while watching your vids. 💁🏼♀️ Your first Oban 14 review inspired me to start comparing it with different scotch whiskies and today I’m doing islay’s but; does Highland Park 12 have a really similar palette or what?! I even think Oban might be smokier on the nose but sweeter on the finish. I also have an unopened bottle of Talisker 10 that might compare better, idk yet but… You gotta review these 3 alongside each other next cus I haven’t found a vid on these yet! 🙏🏻
HOLY SHIT. First, Oban 14 is awesome. I've never heard a better description of Jack Johnson. Dude puts me to sleep, he is so suburban high school girl.
Oban 14 was my first scotch with an age statement over 12 years. Picked up on clearance for $50, even at that early stage of my spirit adventure I could tell the intrinsic quality of this bottle. Slàinte! 🥃 - Patrick
I agree with your J.J. assessment - not a fan. Also a fan of Oban 14... a favorite Scottish whisky! Just wish the price was in the $60 range rather than the $90 I have to pay for it in North Dakota.
indeed. it's similarly priced in Ohio. I enjoy it quite a bit, but it feels like the price should be on par with talisker. You can't order spirits online here, and it makes it frustrating trying to find a liquer store that carries what you're looking for
Glad to hear that Ben Harper won you over via a musical blind taste test. Thanks for turning me on to Foy Vance, that song Noam Chomsky is a soft revolution rips.
I recently restocked my bar with Single Malts, with the usual suspects, including Talisker. Tasting through them Oban is my favorite. The peat smoke is there but it doesn’t kick you in the nuts.
I love Oban14! I've always pronounced it like the word ban or band.... Sounds like it is more of a less pronounced A, like the word bun, Obun? Anyways I love it anytime. My go to scotch.

Dang Daniel, I’m gonna disagree with your judgement of Jack Johnson. Yeah his chord progressions are simple, and some of his songs are pretty lack luster. but he shines I quite a few of his songs. The contrast of his floaty and happy music in combination with his melancholy lyrics make him pretty effective. I’d argue he’s a poet first and a musician second.

These videos are really great. It's like sitting with a drinking buddy while discussing music.

Oban is probably first "non entry level" whisky, that my wife felt in love with.

Yes, Foy is Irish. He is an amazing artist! He did a series of recordings in a Bushmills barrel wharehouse
My wife loves Jack Johnson and you are SPOT ON lmao.

Thank you for introducing me to Foy Vance! How have I never heard this guy till now!
the same here! just listened to about 15 songs..... all amazed me! thanks for the heads up on Foy Vance
I really like this whisky. It's so easy to drink. And it's a good contrast to all the smokey stuff i usually go for.
I just went on to Spotify and you were correct sir. 👍 Foy Vance is Amazing... Thank You !
I like this guys hair cut
Amazing review and analogy. Class act Daniel
Oban 14 is one of my favorites and keep a bootle on hand. Feel like it’s a little different every time I come back to it.
Oban is one of my go to whiskyes if im gonna go to a local nearby liquor store
HOLY SHIT. First, Oban 14 is awesome. I've never heard a better description of Jack Johnson. Dude puts me to sleep, he is so suburban high school girl.
That's a lot of videos in the last hour someone mess up
I love you recommending music and whiskey. Just finished a glass of Green Spot with Foy Vance.

Thank you for introducing me to Foy Vance :)
Got a bottle of this coming tomorrow 👍🏼
Needs more slide - thanks for introducing me to Ben Harper. Alexa did NOT disappoint.
Man, I haven't listened to Ben harper in years, just relistened to the Burn to Shine Album, it is so good. Have to try this whisky out.
Love the music references. If you love the lap slide gospel blues, check out Robert Randolph and the Family Band!! Oh, and Oban 14 is amazing.
Robert Randolph is pure Jam Talent. Master of the slide guitar!
fyi: youtube states these videos have all been uploaded on 27 Dec, but there are week old comments

lol. Jack Johnson drives him "bananas". How fitting.

For others, I believe they listed them private for the Patreon donors on a daily basis, then when complete they listed them all at once.

Have no idea what I just watched. Sigh. Oban 14 is a great Whisky!
Have you guys done a review for Buchanan’s red seal 21 year scotch? I’m looking for reviews before I buy a bottle.
Watching these waiting on which is going to get the Van Morrison comparison
The rip on Jack Johnson 😂

How is there comments from a week ago but all these showed up on my feed a few hours ago. You Tube screwing with me?

Between this and Clynelish 14, which would you guys pick first?
Both are great! Try them both at a bar if you can
Oban 14 or Highland Park 12 as a home bar Island Scotch?
I’m three years late, but Oban without question. HP 12 feels tasteless compared to Oban.
