  • The Kef LS50 has probably been the most iconic loudspeaker to listen to and look at in the 10 years since it's launch. The LS prefix has been updated with meta technology, see video Lyric Hifi LS50 series for more details, and has spawned three wireless active versions talked about here. The tiny LSX2, the original LS50 with added 4 amplifiers making LS50W2 and the brand new and revolutionary LS60. LS60 is both a progression of Kef's recent technologies and a signpost to where high performance music reproduction is heading. This video has some technical hows, whys and some reasons why you have to check these out. ENJOY

I can absolutely verify the capabilities of the LS60s. They play far beyond what you would think looking at them. Very transparent, especially once I got them on some Gaia II feet. They play with such ease, big deep bass, clean and fast. Soundstage is huge. Center imaging is perfect. There's depth and height too. They are just astonishingly good.
Oh and the LS60s woofers are not a product of the creation of the KC62. It's the other way around. Even though the KC62 was launched before the LS60. It derived from the development of the motor system of the LS60 woofers. Since the LS60 is so narrow, they had to develop the center motor powering the pair of woofers on each side. And once they did that, they made a bigger version and made the KC62.
Speaking of which, in my room, at least, I would not add a KC62 subwoofer. The LS60 play more bass than my room can handle, and I actually have to play them with less bass to get everything sounding natural. And they can handle their own very well.
I think they are well worth the asking price. The price at launch, the slightly increased price after some time, and the sales price. All of the price points, well worth it.

I thought for a nanosecond we were heading into "leading edge envelope effect" - remember that?? 😂

@Abe Froman In the early 1980s there a running joke at Lyric about "leading edge envelope effect" which was a totally blolloks theory being punted by some "experts".

Ha, I can see why you might think that! I have had an independent specialist Hifi store for many years from an electrical engineering background. I can see that Kef have stolen a technical lead over most speaker manufacturers at the moment based on listening as well as appreciating the technology breakthroughs. Go listen for yourself
      Best wishes
      Michael
