Art Garfunkel has the greatest voice I ever heard. April Come She will always gives me chills and is featured in one of the greatest films ever The Graduate
@giamb26 - That is one of my favorite songs.... Every time I listen to it, my heart is so broken - so much in that song, so much... Takes me back. I love that song so much. ❤❤
Watching The Graduate right now. Such a great and special movie that would never have had the same impact it did without all those Simon & Garfunkel songs. I'm now 55 but I remember first seeing The Graduate, one evening at around age 5 or 6. I didn't understand the story then but the unforgettable ending scene with Dustin Hoffman desperately yelling & crying, "Elaine!" over & over to do anything he could to stop the wedding and The Sound of Silence, Scarborough Fair & Mrs. Robinson were a few of the "visions that were planted in my brain" that evening and they "still remain"... 50 years later. My mom was a huge influence on me, musically, because she was so into all the best music, including the Simon & Garfunkel stuff featured in the film. She said, "You liked those songs, huh?... The ones in the movie"? I told her I really liked them. Then she got out her box of 45s and handed me 4 Simon & Garfunkel 45s so I could play them whenever I wanted to hear the songs again. I still have those plus an unbelievable lifetime collection of more music than anyone could ever possibly listen to in a life's time. Thanks, Mom!!!... for everything 🤗
I hear you. The Graduate was my childhood. I visited that church a few years ago. It is located in La Verne CA on D street. It’s not in Santa Barbara as featured in the film. The church looks practically the same today. It was a great experience
It might be hard to see Art and Paul perform again in their deteriorating conditions that have befallen on them at this point in their blessed lives on the road we all must travel. Let us be forever thankful that we shared the same time as them on that road in time. Thank you Mr. Simon - Mr. Garfunkel for bringing love.and joy into a world that so dearly needs it. Amen !
Nothing stays the same and yet a reunion would be very desirable. However it is highly unlikely now, given their ages, relationship and health problems.
My heart goes out to the amazing Art Garfunkle, the perfect voice I grew up with. His was always one of my favorite voices ever. The delicacy, precision and power in his voice is magical. God bless him and I pray he finds a satisfactory substitute to singing. 💚💚💚🙏🏻🌍☮️☘️
I am a big fan of both of them, have seen them in concert more than once and saw Art G. several times. I would not see them if they were to perform together - which will never happen - it would never be the same. They had their time in the spotlight as a duo ; it’s over. Paul continues to write and create and evolve which is wonderful.
It is nice to know that Simon And Garfunkel are still in perfectly good health, as I loved nearly all their joint work, although Paul Simon has now lost his voice a bit. It is a blessing that they are both still with us, as we have now hit a time when most of the greats from the fifties and sixties are now dead. There are not so many of them still with us. I totally agree! Why are these stupid and insulting things like the death of people that’s not dead or like this stupid title “ look he is not gone sing again” - a fact that we all are put to old age and death but why do you think this should be told in a fashion as if this was news or he got what he deserves, kind of - this is below any good standard journalism and you’re the one to be ashamed. Fact my ass assuming
Long time fan of Art. I just heard a solo song of his at random in public yesterday. The guy has an amazing voice with a lot of nuance that's just lost on the current generation.
Most undoubtedly "YES," I definitely would go see a reunion tour. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's music was in a "class all its own," a legendary performance.
This tears me up. I saw them in concert, and out of all the concerts I ever saw, including Pink Floyd; Simon & Garfunkel's concert was the very best, far and away, the best concert I ever saw. I was crying at the end of it.
Yes I definitely love to see the legendary folk-rock duo reunite and perform together like they should. It would set and example to people about maintaining relationships and appreciating one another,
The fact that his voice recovered and that he’s not on his death bed negates the “will never sing again” in the title (unless I missed something in the video)

Art is amazing! I was lucky enough to get to see him in concert six years ago and I was amazed and thankful that he was still performing with all that he was going through with his vocal cord issues. He was amazing and I was blessed ! 🎶👏
I had the true pleasure of meeting Art and having a nice conversation with him in about 1992. He was kind and I have a picture with him that is very special to me. I've seen S&G in concert twice and seen both Art and Paul solo. Their music together and separate is very special to me. It is quite sad to me that unless something significant happens, they will pass away without being reconciled. I know relationships can be complicated, but that is incredibly unfortunate.
Their music is STILL the very best and brings tears to my eyes. I wrote out the words to "Sounds of Silence" and learned to sign them. That tells a story of the non-hearing world.
I’m 42. I would totally go see them! I didn’t even live through the 60’s or even 70’s for that matter, lol. I just know good music when I hear it! I learned to harmonize along with these guys!
Bridge Over Troubled Water had me in standing, jumping, and in tears, followed by Cecilia which had handicapped fans rockin and rollin in their chairs!
I'm sure, that totally broke Art's heart to not be able to sing & do what he loves and made a lifetime of. Getting old sucks so bad because it just fucks with everything and it will, wear you down, sooner or later... no matter what you do or have done so please try and always remember to take good care of yourselves while you can and hopefully it will pay off and benefit you positively in old age. Two (or 3) of the most important things you could ever do for yourself: 1. If you smoke, QUIT! 2. If you don't - Don't Start! 3. Be responsible for your body and life by leaving seriously dangerous and life-threatening drugs alone. If you absolutely must do something to alter your brain and feel 'buzzed', smoke a little weed or responsibly have a few drinks here and there. Constant, sloppy use of any of the other shit will get you sooner or later & if it doesn't kill you, it'll wreck your body and health so fast you won't ever realize what it's done to you until it's too late. Some people just never stop long enough to take the time to notice what's happened and is happening to themselves. Don't let that ever happen!
I think another reason they broke up was Art was focusing more on his acting career which lessened the amount of time working in the studio with Paul and he was not keeping Paul in the loop with how long he was going to be away from the studio. Plus if they don’t get along, at their age why put themselves through that stress especially if they don’t need the money.
great pair of song writer/singers. Really listen to and read the "Sounds of Silence", it is a poetic masterpiece! These guys were brilliant together. I literally heard the "Sounds of Silence" Nov 1970, the pilot came on the P.A. and wished us all well in Viet Nam, that plane was so quiet for the next 10 minutes the quiet hurt my ears.
While a reunion is always intriguing from these old legends, we need to respect their feelings and be happy that we have a catalog of music from them that will live forever. Same thing applies to ABBA. They were only together 10 years, but have left a catalog of songs that will live forever. A reunion really isn't necessary.
Yes I'd go for sure. I'd happily go to see Art solo. I love his Fate for breakfast album. If I can hear him sing Bright Eyes live once in my life I'll die happy.
Paul hit mail on head pointless moving forward Paul Simon had the musical intrametal momentum Art was around for the ride sibling rivalry egos disrupted and mortality
I don't know. I just get used to it. If I age 20 years in one night, that would be a shock, but you just get used to your aged look over time. If I can remain mobile and independent to the day I die, I'd consider that a blessing. So far none of my grandparents, parents had achieved that, so I am trying to be the first.
@@tomsd8656 i think it's a crime that we don't have doctors for people like the mobile vet who makes house calls for our beloved pets when they're terminally ill or in pain. why can't people have that option? like if they want to go while they still have some marbles & not have to just deteriorate, i believe it would be a compassionate blessing to help end it for them as painlessly as possible & with dignity. 🙏💜🕯️🌱🐾👣🌿🌎🕊️
His ageing has apparently slowed way down, yes. Either that or the hambones at Facts Verse are still doing their usual lame-ass job of checking things. I kind of suspect the latter here . . .
I Graduated HS in 1970…Their music together was magical as I was Growing Up. I had all their albums…Bridge Over Troubled Waters Album should have been their swan song anyway…like the Beatles Abbey Road. When the members of the Group want a divorce, there’s little that can be done. I had no idea Art Lost his voice…so grateful he worked hard to regain it. Let them be…we’re ALL older now…do what brings you joy…tomorrow is promised to no one…I’m glad I grew up when I did. Paul Simon, like Paul McCartney is a Musical Genius! There are Songs that Paul and Art did together that will endure long after they…and we…are gone. Isn’t that the TRUE BRILLIANCE of these two gems we had the pleasure to hear AT THE PINNACLE of their careers??? That is plenty more than enough for me…❤
Saw a video of a guy analysing remastered CDs. Art Garfunkle was so on key in every note he sung that he had a hard time telling if he was autotuned. Except of course there was no autotune back then.
Pray he knows he has impacted many lives. Hearing the early songs is still exciting !! Hope he continuez to record in a home studio; maybe assogn any rights to his solos to Art G Jr so maybe sometime a studio pick it up and distribute some future time. Live to them both. A great growing up year songs of an unparalled era !! Many thanks Art Sr !!!❤❤❤❤❤
Paul Simon is correct. It would be pointless to reunite yet again. They have already done two reunion tours. Moreover, Paul says they do not particularly get along. So what is the point? It is time to move on. I think Paul's solo work is as good, if not better, than the Simon & Garunkel
No diffrent than pink floyd..... bunch of men ruined by the "craft" .....so ask yourself .....was it them.....or the "higher ups" making more monetized decisions over what actually got them where they are. ?????
Prior to 1977's 'What a Wonderful World', with James Taylor and Simon, Paul Simon wrote 'My Little Town' in 1975 with Garfunkel in mind. Both had My Little Town on their 1975 albums. Simon wanted Garfunkel to have a more gritty song to sing to contrast the angelic songs he'd been singing in the early 70's.
Paul Simon had a great career after they broke up, and I'm sure he did financially better than Art Garfunkel. But I'm certain that Garfunkel did well enough to want for nothing in life. I liked both of them, and was thrilled to watch their reunion tour on TV in 1981. (500,000 may have shown up at the park, but how many showed up on TV?) I can't call a favorite between them. I love both of them, and I am happy they were able use their voices to lift other people's spirits, and both have lived great lives.
It isn't necessary to see them again. Their best music, together, was when they were young, and at their prime musically. I can, and do, put on a CD and listen to their "out of this world" songs from time to time.
Art has the voice of an angel. Bridge Over Troubled Water still brings tears to my eyes. It is always a spiritual experience for me when I hear him singing this song. God bless him. I will always cherish Simon & Garfunkel and their music will forever ring through the universe, the heavens & earth.
You can't have Art without Paul. Paul was the music creator and Art brought it to life. Without Paul's songs, Art really would not have gotten as far as he did. Both deserve accolades. You cannot have one without another.
We Remember!! We haven't forgotten the creepy shit he did to Simon! Look that up. . Then you will know . . He was a Weirdo and still is! I was there!! All of that crap back then, between them. . was ALL Garfunkel...the musical collaboration was outstanding. .no doubt's about that! They influenced our lives and touched us all.... back then!! Credit where it's due. The music IS Still great!
It’s very presumptuous of Simon to say that people don’t want to see a reunion show. There are those of us who crave for the pair to sing again. What he has to understand is that no matter how he or Art feels, the show must go on. Trust me, I’ve done shows where I was not happy with a band mate, yet I did the show anyway, because the people wanted the show. It would be a great moment to have one last performance by these two.
Musicians are not the property of their fans. If you've already committed to a particular gig then of course you should do it if you're able, even if you have issues with a bandmate, but there's a huge difference between honouring existing obligations and planning new ones. As much as I would love to hear a final Simon & Garfunkel reunion, especially if it involved at least one new song, they owe us nothing. Paul Simon has retired from touring, and although he still writes and records, sadly he is suffering from hearing loss which severely impairs his ability to perform live, so even if they resolved their differences unfortunately even one more reunion performance would remain unlikely. Both of them are 81 years old and in their long and brilliant careers have given more than we could reasonably ask.
@@SunbatherInTheSnow You are correct. Musicians are not the property of the fans. But first and foremost, the fans dictate whether you as a musician have any business even putting on a show if no one is going to pay to see you. And as a musician that in the business to make money, it makes sense that if the fans are willing to shell out money to see you one more time, then it would behoove you make that happen. I as a musician listen to what my fans say, and work my future shows accordingly. In the end, a professional musician will cater to the fans when good money is part of the package. As with any job, when you are at work, leave your private life at home. and when you are at home, leave your work at work. That goes for any profession, not just musicians. So what I'm saying is, that Simon and Garfunkel for whatever reasons they may have to keep from doing a show, should pack those differences aside, and do one more show for the fans, collect the money, and go home. At the end of the day everyone wins. The musicians get paid, the fans get the music and experience they yearned for. Life is too short to quibble over why, just do what is required of the job that the musician signed up for. Fans are why the musician even has a job. So yes, they many not own the musician, but fans do pay their salary by going to shows, and buying the music. plain and simple.
My Wife bought tickets to see Garfunkel in Redding California about 10 years ago. He mentioned his struggles with his voice and candidly said it wasn't 100% and perhaps never would be. That being said He sang for about a hour and the Fans loved him. Numerous standing ovations. It all in all was a memorable experience. However yeah however he did something foolish I believe he talked shit about Paul Simon and made it clear they had issues. I couldn't help but think it was a huge mistake as beratings others usually is. At the time Paul was on a world tour and drawing huge crowds. That tainted the experience
What a complicated relationship those two have. First Paul Simon signed a record deal that excluded Art, without telling him, when they were very young. And Art said that was a betrayal that he never forgot. But years later, Paul Simon fixated on his belief that because Art went to Mexico to have a very small part make a movie that kept him on the set for months, instead of a few weeks, Art was determined to become a movie star and reject music. But Art said he never thought about being a movie star and wished that he'd asked to be released from being on set when it became clear that it was taking too long. So they both experienced a feeling of betrayal by the other, and neither can let it go, despite years of expert, passionate, successful and very beautiful collaborations. They probably know each other better than most people in the world (except their immediate families), and yet, they can't forgive each other for the slights, insults and real or perceived betrayals. But so many duos who are very close suffer from overexposure to each other, like the Everly Brothers, the Righteous Brothers, the Andrews Sisters... Maybe it's the inevitable result of how intense it is to tour the world for years with someone, performing the same material over and over. The stress builds up and they can't wait to be free of each other.
Kudos for this video about Mr. Garfunkel! Having worked with Art as a tour producer during his recovery, and as someone who has lectured about the duo for a number of years, i wanted to (humbly) correct a fact that is slightly inaccurate in this piece, and also add a point. Their duet on 'What a Wonderful World' was not the only 'reunion' of the two in 1975. They also released a single that year called "My Little Town" which reached #9 in Billboard, performed it on the second episode of 'Saturday Night (Live)', and appeared in a very humorous segment on the Grammy Awards telecast, which can be found on RUclips. The dup also DID tour in 1983, a result of the Central Park show, though the intended album was, indeed, canceled, as you mention. Keep up the good work!
For a guy who couldn't play an instrument and never wrote a song, I'd say he lucked out to the max by riding on the coattails of Paul Simon! I grew up with Simon & Garfunkel, and I even hung out with Art in the late sixties, but he certainly was a lucky guy!
I think the quality of his unique voice “ makes him a little bit more than lucky”! Paul no doubt was the creative half of the duo but there was nothing “outstanding about his vocals” (in my humble opinion)!
@@darrellsmith3602 I think Paul has a great and very underrated voice, and even has the better solo discography of the two (albeit largely due to his songwriting talents). That said, when they were together, something magical happened, and I don't know if any other band in history has been so much more than the sum of their parts. Interestingly, when they were going to record Bridge Over Troubled Water, both singers thought the other should sing lead. It's probably for the best that Paul Simon won that argument.
I think another reunion is highly unlikely and the duo is best remembered for their past work. Garfunkel's singing on the Watership Down theme tune Bright Eyes still makes me cry.
I enjoyed their work together as well as each individually. A reunion seems both unlikely and unnecessary. I think the range and depth of Simon’s work over the years has been extraordinary. His work alone has been quite satisfying.
I would take Art and Art junior on tour before I see Art and Paul reunite. Quite frankly. I think Art is more talented than Paul can ever be, and I love his voice and he is humble something that Paul isn’t.
Huh? Aged badly? What the heck do you mean? Don't be ridiculous. I'd like to see what you look like at 81-85 age range. We all just get older bodies and faces, but nothing can change the indominatable and timeless spirit of Art Garfunkel.
They deserve peace and happiness. If they wanted to, and could , mend their friendship, that would be even better than their becoming duet performers again. To have known, and been so close, since childhood, and then lose that, does something to your soul, like part of you is missing. People don’t usually wake up to that, until one is gone, and they are left lost, with never a chance for that union again. I love their music and wish them both peace, together, or apart.
I probably would, but with Paul's hearing problem and Art's voice not being what once was, even if they got along it just wouldn't sound like the same duo that sang all our favorite songs back in the 60s.
Of course I'd go, because they'd have the understanding that they'd really want to do it. I am awestruck that Arties son is walking in his fathers' footsteps. That is an old cliche that doesn't carry the same weight as it used to, but I think if you have those kind of genes and upbringing you go for it and he is. More power and encouragement to him.
I like their music, but a reunion would probably be disappointing to most fans, as their expectations would likely be unrealistically high. These guys have nothing to prove, at least to me. There comes a time for all of us to slow down and not try to do the same things we did half a century ago.
Definitely! We feel the same way. Thank you for sharing your sentiments and for watching our content. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
My memory of S&G has always been on the radio. They were a dynamic duo that sung and related to everyone. Their music sings to my soul to this day. I remember listening to Art’s rendition of “I Only Have Eyes For You.” While it was not the version that The Flamingos made iconic, the focus of his version is romance. I watched the Black Mirror episode Demon 79. You can hear the song Bright Eyes in the episode from the beginning, midway and at the end.

Absolutely true 👍
Undisputed.
He surely is.
Simon is the whole package. He can write, sing and plays several instruments. That’s why he was so successful on his own.
I saw them together in 2020. Amazing concert. It was so good I bought the DVD/CD. Brings back many memories.
Do you mean 2010? I don't think they were even speaking to each other in 2020.
Two (or 3) of the most important things you could ever do for yourself:

Hi how are you doing Mr Dave😊
It's OK ... we have so much of his voice recorded already. I feel bad for him, though.
Yes I'd go for sure. I'd happily go to see Art solo. I love his Fate for breakfast album. If I can hear him sing Bright Eyes live once in my life I'll die happy.

Nothing hurts more than ageing, when you see yourself on TV, recordings. Etc.. it's hard enough when you're a nobody.
As one nobody to another- I get it. My goal is to work my way down. With a good reputation for upholding my word.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I don't know. I just get used to it. If I age 20 years in one night, that would be a shock, but you just get used to your aged look over time. If I can remain mobile and independent to the day I die, I'd consider that a blessing. So far none of my grandparents, parents had achieved that, so I am trying to be the first.

i think it's a crime that we don't have doctors for people like the mobile vet who makes house calls for our beloved pets when they're terminally ill or in pain.
why can't people have that option?
like if they want to go while they still have some marbles & not have to just deteriorate, i believe it would be a compassionate blessing to help end it for them as painlessly as possible & with dignity.

Time is a great healer, but an awful beautician.
Yes I would go see an reunion of their concert 🎵 because they were good together
Us too! Which of their songs appealed to you the most?
He was 78 in 2010 and only 81 thirteen years later? He may outlive us all!
Art Garfunkel was born Nov. 5, 1941. In 2010 he would have turned 69. This year he will be 82. Facts Verse didn't do their math.
His ageing has apparently slowed way down, yes.
Either that or the hambones at Facts Verse are still doing their usual lame-ass job of checking things.
I kind of suspect the latter here . . .
Facts Verse can be pretty sloppy sometimes.
That is plenty more than enough for me…❤
Beautiful words, thank you for your message. We're moved. What other types of video would you like to see?

Absolutely agree. Paul Simon’s success remained. That’s why Art always wanted to reunite again, to be part of this success.
All those old bands/groups CAN’T stand each other. 💴 💰 💵
No diffrent than pink floyd..... bunch of men ruined by the "craft" .....so ask yourself .....was it them.....or the "higher ups" making more monetized decisions over what actually got them where they are. ?????

I would absolutely love to see a reunion concert.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Art. we love him ♥
I will stand corrected but Art Garfunkel Jr. is not the name of Art's son......I do believe that it is James.
You can't have Art without Paul. Paul was the music creator and Art brought it to life. Without Paul's songs, Art really would not have gotten as far as he did. Both deserve accolades. You cannot have one without another.
I grew up with their music. Loved his acting performance too in the great movie, “Carnal Knowledge”.

Art Garfunkel was a great great man and a great singer and he provided quality upscale entertainment for decades thank you art❤
Is, not was.
@@SunbatherInTheSnow Absolutely. You are absolutely right. They have given us so much.

Us too! What is your favorite Simon and Garfunkle song?
My Wife bought tickets to see Garfunkel in Redding California about 10 years ago. He mentioned his struggles with his voice and candidly said it wasn't 100% and perhaps never would be. That being said He sang for about a hour and the Fans loved him. Numerous standing ovations. It all in all was a memorable experience. However yeah however he did something foolish I believe he talked shit about Paul Simon and made it clear they had issues. I couldn't help but think it was a huge mistake as beratings others usually is. At the time Paul was on a world tour and drawing huge crowds. That tainted the experience
I know this is selfish, but I NEED to get to see SnG !! Please come to SACRAMENTO, CA!! You helped me beat cancer!

These are legends so Yes I would go to a reunion concert if I was able to.
Yes
I remember, in the 1981 reunion, Paul said to Art, "So, you come crawling back".
Very funny and cut the tension.
It would be a dream come true for me. I'm sure I would have tears in my eyes all the time.
Hi how are you doing 😊
The music duo is amazing! I wish Art, a fellow Scorpio, all the best.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
BEST SONG HE EVER SANG " I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU!🥺
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! Which song comes in at second place?

Art Garfunkel has aged badly which is a pity given that he was a great singer. My favourite song by Simon and Garfunkel is Scarborough Fair.
Huh?

Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I probably would, but with Paul's hearing problem and Art's voice not being what once was, even if they got along it just wouldn't sound like the same duo that sang all our favorite songs back in the 60s.
Sad but true. Still, we wish them all the best in life ❣
Of course I'd go, because they'd have the understanding that they'd really want to do it.
