I think about this vehicle EVERY single day...

  • I think about 200 series Land Cruisers every single day... Yes, I'm a nut. Now that we know the terrible direction Toyota is headed, I'm extremely tempted to buy another 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition and actually try to keep it for longer than 45 minutes. The 2024 Land Cruiser is a disgrace to the legendary Land Cruiser nameplate... Think the majority of true Toyota enthusiasts can agree on that. Unfortunately these 2020-2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Editions are still a bit more than I'd want to pay... looking at mid-80s for one with 30-40K miles. Still need them to drop another 10-15K before the purchase make sense.
    What's the one vehicle you let get away and miss often?

    I own this exact vehicle. It has 11,560 miles on it. It will be the last new Toyota I ever purchased. The very best part about a TLC like this is the fact that nobody notices it. You can take it anywhere, park it anywhere, and nobody pays any attention to it. Then.......You can take it off road and go anyplace you want. When you get way out there......That's when other people notice it. Because it is absolutely amazing off road. The "value" goes up and down. But to those of us who know what we have, the value that's listed on some website is not relevant. You could offer me twice what I paid for mine and I still wouldn't sell it. Why? Because you can't get real land cruisers anymore. At least not a new one. I would buy a 1976 FJ40 for 50K sooner than I would let somebody pay me to take one of those new pieces of garbage.

      A little dramatic, while the 200 is a solid machine and I get that you love the simple and understated nature of this vehicle but calling the new Toyota's "garbage" is kind of funny isn't it? They have finally actually realized they better catch up with the times if they want to sell any vehicles. I remember when the 100 series was the "new landcruiser" and everyone hated it and said the 80 series was the last great LC, Toyota has lost its way, etc etc. I appreciate that Toyota has at least attempted some new retro modern designs and I am betting the new LC 250, Prado, "not a real landcruiser" whatever you want to call it will be an excellent vehicle. Keep your 200 forever, buy antiquated FJ40's, all thats good and valuable and nostalgic but Toyota has to meet Government regulations and make attractive vehicles more likely to sell than the dismal sales figures of the 200 series at the end of its run in the USA. It couldn't compete anymore even though its a gem. Clearly everything is way more expensive than it used to be now so the value proposition isn't quite there for me yet either, I'll let early adopters take the depreciation hit and reliability uncertainty but no doubt I'll have one of those new Prados in my garage sometime in the near future.

    • @mattphillips1910
      @mattphillips1910 25 дней назад +1

      @@WranglermanLevi They made the engine a lot smaller and put more power to it. That means it will be less reliable. That's true with any manufacturer. They also added a bunch of tech and electronics, which will also make it less reliable. I buy TLC's for what they are capable of. Not for how big the screen in the dash is. If a person uses a TLC to drive on pavement to work every day, I'm sure the new garbage will be just fine. If a person uses a TLC for what they have always been intended for, I have absolutely no doubt that they are junk.

    • @mattphillips1910
      @mattphillips1910 25 дней назад

      @@WranglermanLevi I think we are both entitled to our opinions. I find nothing "exciting" about the new garbage they just created. You're definitely correct that the new junk is not an upgrade. Comparing a new TLC to an F150 is not a good plan. Compare it to a previous model TLC and see what it looks like at 200K. And yes, I live in a place where a real TLC is required. Most people want to drive a video game every day and they think they need a 4X4 SUV because they go skiing three times a year. I use 4X4 every single day. Lots of vehicles can do it. It doesn't have to be a TLC. The reason the 200 was my choice is because of the reliability, the power, and the comfort. In that order. The new junk has none of those.

      If I wanna choose for myself, it will be the GX550, because of higher horsepower and torque and has 3rd row option and it’s bigger than X5 and can tow more I believe 9,000 pounds. If you thinking buying one? These starts at 64,250$ USD so pick one what you need in terms of options in different trims and test drive is recommended. Hope this helps.

    I agree with where they grow on you. I did not know these were a thing until I started working for Toyota. At that time they didn’t make sense to me because of the sequoia. Well a few years later I ended up picking up a Land Cruiser. Personally I don’t mind them releasing the Prado here. Not that I dislike the size of the 200 series but I do prefer the size of the prado better. Just it could be better.

    I beg to differ. The landcrusier sold so poorly because Americans are not asking for what would have likely be a 100k suv today if sold new. That's why nobody bought it and Toyota pulled it. The 250 finally starts to make sense but still overpriced. Yet lower prices is precisely the right direction. They just have to keep going.

      no one bought them as Toyota only sold the top top luxury Trim LC200 in the U.S., as other markets had a basic utilitarian model think Toyota didn't want to cut into Sequoia sale for the same price $69k LC 200 or Sequoia TRD PRO today the Sequoia TRD PRO IS $83k so its Toyota's top model the LC 300 could be in the $70k range LC 250 / 1958 in the $60k range new 4Runner could stay under $50k like they are now

    I had a 99 LX470 and rigged it out for camping etc. I bought it for 6500 with 200K and sold it with 300K I spend a lot of money on it but that ol 4 speed transmission was butter smooth and it ran like it was new.
