No way we need to go outta our way to do all this for a $50k vehicle 🤦♂️
Did you watch the whole video?
Yessir. Toyota will definitely have to fix this
Compared to waiting at the dealership, it’s a pretty easy fix yourself.
It doesn’t rattle while you drive. And give me a break. 3rd gen had its fair share of issues.
Yes way.
A Japanese worker would have stopped the production line.
Have you worked on a Japanese production line?
@@RobMotive no but I've been to Japan, I was in a bus and when the bus had to make an extended stop the driver went outside and started cleaning all the windows, they just have a different philosophy in life
I work for the Japanese
The design is just fine. Mine makes zero noise.
It’s designed that way. They are spring loaded so the door doesn’t rattle on rough roads.
Except they do.
@@RobMotive mine doesn’t and roads don’t get any rougher than up here
I guess the score is tied.
@@paulnirschl6500 what is different between yours and Rob's?
Quality control needs improving for sure
The stoppers are Spring loaded & it is touching. Like a button press. It feels like some sort of shock damper for glove box door. Anyway it doesn’t rattle when I hit bumps. I tried it after watching this video.
Hey Rob I have a 2021 SR Tacoma access cab utility package w/o jump seats here in PA. Love it with 2.7 proven engine. Glove box issue is another reason for most viewers watching new Tacoma videos to hold on to their trucks that that have! 😊
I’d say if the loose glovebox is turning people away from the new Tacoma then they were never interested in it in the first place.
Wedge some Dominos pizza box in there! $53K !!
There is play in the glovebox in my 2014 accord. I've literally never noticed it and it has never rattled. The only reason I figured this out is because I pushed on it after seeing all the commotion about this tacoma. It's a non problem to me!
Go to a sewing store and buy sewing needle covers the kind of sewing needles that your grandmother used to knit blankets with they make these little rubber grommets that go over the point of the needle that would work
Great idea Rob. That’s the first thing I noticed on my 2023 limited Tacoma, was the lose glove compartment. Did you have this problem on your 2023? I get the feeling you’ve just experienced this problem on the 2024.
I never noticed it on the '23.
Mine doesn’t rattle on any type of road and I actually like it like that cause on my 3rd gen it always seemed to want to fall back open whenever I closed it
Looks to be fixed on my 2024 TRD OR. Those little rubber nubs have been replaced with longer ones that are spring loaded and retract to keep outward pressure on the door.
Good fix!
Nice troubleshooting and attention to the little details Rob. If you’re looking to tighten it up just a tiny bit more, on the last stick-on nub that was just a bit too much, have you thought about using the course side of a nail file and just shaving down the rubber ever so slightly? Just a suggestion.
Thanks for the idea.
Hey Rob my 2021 SR Tacoma access cab utility package has a full size spare which you didn't get with a the new high priced 4th generation! 🙄
I’d say that’s a true statement.
I noticed that gap when we looked at one last week. Craziness
Definitely needs a fix.
A small piece of automotive vacuum hose cut to length . . . or cap
Thats is a problem I stated a while ago. Someone dropped the ball on the glove box design. Toyota needs a fix on these asap!
If they get enough complaints I’m sure they will.
great job Rob. Toyota needs you in quality control.
Lol!
Let me see if I got this right. Pay 40k or so for a truck and you have to spend your time getting the glove box how it should have come from the factory?
Well you don't have to. You could take it to the dealership and have them look at it if you choose.
@@RobMotive I am losing faith in toyota with all this new stuff. It hurts, been a customer from many years and love their stuff.
Yes. You got that right.
It’s supposed to do that, it’s designed for that it’s actually a super smart design.
Too much play.
The 3rd Gen doesn't have that issue. I see the 4th gen still has a useless glove box that requires a partition insert. Small things can really bother some people. Good luck Rob
Try to adjust the lock latch on the inside of the Gulf coupon. Maybe you could back it up a pinch.
There is no access.
There have been comments online saying that the 2024 Tacoma shifting with the automatic transmission is rough. Have you experienced this?
No way!
How small is the actual latch? Is it plastic or metal? And The fact that it’s lockable seems redundant if it is plastic.
Oh I’m sure it’s plastic.
I just checked out my 24 Tacoma glove box and it does the same thing but I believe it's actually contacting the spring loaded stoppers. I wonder if this is intentional for some reason.
I'm sure it's intentional, buy the springs are too weak.
@@RobMotive That's a good point. I wonder if it's intended for movement while off-roading.
@edwardalderman8334 Could be…but I don’t think so.
Would have liked to hear a before and after to determine if it’s worth the trouble.
If you don’t have it in your truck then I’d say it’s not worthwhile.
My first thought? C4!
No rattle coming from mine Rob, checked it as soon as I saw the video.
Do you have movement?
@@RobMotive no I don't, closes flush, the date of build was Jan. 24.
Is there any way to adjust the latch on the glove box
Not that I’m aware of.
Just by looking at it, the overall problem is that the latch hole is obviously too far down/forward so that the door panel is not engaging with the spring loaded stoppers. IF you had a 3d printer and average modeling skills you could print a part/spacer to move the front of the latch hole up/back. This would also reduce the gap around the glove box.
No, it’s that the spring mechanism is too weak. It contacts the door just fine.
Nissan Frontier’s glovebox no tape required! And still save thousands.
...and deal with a slipping transmission at 30,000 miles. I'll take the glovebox issue.
Is it truly a Tacoma if there isn’t a factory rattle or two?
I’ve never had a problem with rattles in any of my Tacoma’s.
I've watched two of your videos that have to do with your 24 Tacoma. My takeaway is the fit and finish of all the interior plastic is terrible. I see so many gaps throughout the cab.
I guess you need to experience one in person. I don’t feel that way at all.
@@RobMotive I bought a 24 Pro 4x and test drove a 24 Tacoma Sport. I did try both. I wanted a 24 Taco but Price and engine swayed me to the Nissan. Just my opinion. I've owned a 2017 Tacoma Sport an 06 Tundra TRD off road. I wanted to like the Tacoma but was unimpressed. I wasn't trying to agitate you. You have a nice-looking truck no doubt. That said look at the gap where the head unit is. Or the Chrome to the left of the glove box..
No agitation here. I just don’t agree with you👍
Did you try locking the glovebox?
I did not.
NICELY DONE ROB!
Rob why didn’t you just add to the pad the “nub” striker contacts
Did you watch the video?
I was thinking the same thing 😂@@RobMotive
No noise and I think it's designed that way from the earliest videos. I need a fix for all the plastic.
How so?
@@RobMotive I believe the TRD Pro has soft upper door panels and it looks like those just snap on and off. I need to see it closer when videos start coming out.
With all the promotion you do for Toyota , you think that they would buy you some tee shirts.
50k TRUCK not include a perfect gloves box.
Hehehehh, my advice is to make Toyota fix not ourselves, any damage will avoid warranty.
Nah, it's a simple fix. Not worth the time I'd spend at the dealership.
You really have to do this on a truck that cost so much money. That isn’t right Rob. Toyato is not doing the same quality as they used too.😊
It’s really a minor thing. No truck is perfect and if this is all that is wrong, I’ll be happy.
Really have to push my glove box door to get it to move much. No way does it rattle on a bumpy road. 24 taco off rd.
Do you have something inside that's impacting it?
@@RobMotive just checked Rob, only the manuals and a tire gauge. There is play, but a lot of resistance when I push against the door. Emptied it and the same thing. I have the off road which doesn’t give as smooth a drive as the sport due to the off rd suspension.
Sounds like there is some variance.
@@RobMotive would really have to check two, side by side to truly compare. This is a subjective evaluation on my part, ie not really reliable. Keep up the good work Rob.
There's so much tension pulling that glovebox down, it doesn't jiggle. You have to force it to make it jiggle. Clearly you've never even taken your taco off road.
Wait…have you ridden in my truck….
@@RobMotive mine has the same "play". It doesn't jiggle when going down the road, or off the road. Other utubers have pointed it out, and none of them have complained about a rattle from it.
I can only speak to my own 👍
Wow that's a bad design. You think they were rushing?
A rattle trap glove box on a $50,000+ truck!
😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty minor if that’s all that needs addressing.
@@RobMotive but that’s not all that needs addressing with the steaming TuRD from Toyota.
That’s the only (minor) issue I’ve had with mine. Do you own one?
I'm so glad this new 2024 Toyota is keeping you busy fixing all of the factory defects I'm so glad that I have a 2022 have not had one single problem with it at all interior is so much nicer not all the sharp corner angles like on the new one especially that stupid screen sitting up in front of your face so you have problems looking over the hood😅
"All the factory defects"? A bit over-reactionary don't ya think?
Perhaps but time will tell. :) but keep putting these videos out and that will decide if I want to buy one of these in 2 to 3 years or not and what the lookout for just like it was with the third gen I waited five years to purchase one of those to make sure all the bugs were worked out because I don't want to waste my time sitting in a dealership time is money that's why I'll never purchase a EV waiting for it two charge.
3rd generation are more arrractive. The 24s are like lipstick on a pig.😅😂😂
Vacuum cap
Just adjust the latch 😂
No way to do that.
That’s a bummer, good try Rob.
Simple fix in the end👍
Bring it back to the Dealer and have them fix it.
No need.
Just get some 3/8 fuel line and put it over the nub.
Good idea on the fuel line. Or even some vacuum hose.😊
Let's not forget these are not made in Japan they're made in Mexico.
They are assembled in Mexico with parts from all over the world.
Should of stayed with 3rd gen
No way.
Use magnets. 🤷🏼♂️
Not a bad idea.
Is this a 2wd problem?
I don’t know? What do you think?
😂😂
That is why I don't buy vehicles made in Mexico and as much as money that you paid for that vehicle you shouldn't have that kind of problem at all
Being a first year redesign, I knew fully well there could be little issues (assembled in Mexico or not). If this is all I have to deal with, I’d be very happy.
That's crap! I think i'll save my money and keep driving my 21 & 18 year old vehicles.
Mexican built toyotas just do not have a good fit and finish. They need better quality control over there. Also, they are paid some much less, yet the prices do not reflect that.
Cap!
A Jerry-rigged very expensive little truck, you should add an other fuel tank for the long trips since Toyota saved a bunch of money cutting corners on this expensive little truck.
Oh and the back seat strap! That design is so futuristic made of left over seats material.
It's really a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. Did you watch the whole video?
This is a total fail, here on Toyotas part.
Toyota screwed it up, make Toyota FIX IT!
No need now.
Toyota reliability is going down the drain
It’s not a reliability issue but rather a build/quality problem.
Cheap garbage trucks. Toyota is about to loose alot of market share due to their c suite greed. Same as dodge and ford.
oh wow look at that, they push in... almost as if toyota designed it that way for some reason...
Ya think….
