My brother had a 1996 Land Cruiser in a beautiful metallic red with a tan leather interior. It was a $52k vehicle then and so it’s always been ridiculously expensive. He leased it and despite my suggestion did not buy out the lease. Everyone loved this vehicle in our family, especially his small children that would comfortably hang out in the 3rd row. In my opinion this version was better looking than this last edition and had the better inline 6 engine. I will always remember this vehicle fondly. For those of us that appreciate an old school solidly built vehicle this is a big loss. Rest In Peace Toyota Land Cruiser, you were always the best in your class!

Here in Finland there are exactly 199 Land Cruisers for sale right now. Of those, 154 are over 100k miles. 107 are over 200k miles. 40 are over 310k miles (500 000 kilometers). 16 examples are over 400k miles. And lastly one for sale is over 500k miles (807 000 kilometers). I personally know a man who bought a Land Cruiser new in the 80's, he still has it, it has 1,3 million kilometers on it (812k Miles), he still drives it, and it has the original engine and transmission (straight six diesel with manual).
My '13 is my daily driver. It has 122k miles on the clock. And all Ive ever done with it is basic maintenance. I absolutely LOVE it. Im never selling it.
Update: I now have 158k miles on it. No issues whatsoever. It just keeps going, and I love it for that. Its been my favorite daily driver that Ive ever owned.
I bought mine used and it was 54k. Can’t distinguish the difference between the used one I have and a fresh one. All the same! Getting this off of the pavement and it all makes sense. No rattling and so capable. This thing puts a smile on my face with every drive and has for the past 3 years. On top of that, there’s something to be said about driving a unique vehicle that will one day be a collectible. It also inspires me to keep it clean.
you should win an award for the quality of your video production ... every element is perfect. This coming from a guy who has been involved with video in one form or another since the mid 80's. Great job, my friend ; )

The production quality of the videos of this channel is so high. There are numerous fine touches to the shot angles, the lighting, and the piano music choices. Very enjoyable to watch. Not to mention the top notch technical review contents, which are needless to say.
Great review fellas! I currently own a 2017 TRD PRO Tundra. I love these vehicles for the Mechanical aspect , not necessarily it’s high tech interior. 5yrs with my truck & no mechanical issues what’s so ever, my buddies bought Chevys , Ford & Dodge truck & 3 yrs in all of them have had some issue including check engine lights.
I take delivery on my 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition next week. They only made the LCHE for 2020 and 2021 but they only made my color (Magnetic Grey Metallic) and Classic Silver for 2021...and they also only offered the optional third row in the LCHE for 2021. Given they are only making a small fraction of the small # of LCHEs in my color, and even less with a third row in my color, it should hold value very well. I'm excited to take delivery!
Greatest car ever. I'm so sad to see it go. I'll buy a 200 series in a couple of years. SO GLAD my brother bought one recently. He'll be able to sell it for more than he bought it in 5 years.
I only own a beater 97 Camry and this thing just won't die. It makes me understand why the Land Cruiser is ridiculously expensive. Even 30 year old ones!
We are getting the new 300 Series here in NZ and Australia. But the stock of the existing 200 series are already sold out and used a selling more than 30% of the retail value. In Australia, the LC200 sales equalled the total sales of most European brands.
@@2003evodave just in Australia in 2020 they sold, 15k Landcrusier 200 series. 18k- Landcrusier 150 Prado, and 12k - Landcrusier 80 series pick up. In contrast, BMW sold 700 x7 model, and 300 x5 suv Audi sold 200 q7, and Landrover sold 700 discoveries.
@@aqwplayer222 It doesn't make sense to me because usually ruggedness and simplicity is cheaper. I guess the resulting reliability should raise the price but it never has with cars, the opposite in fact.
My 91’ puts a smile on my face every day. It’s great. Slow, drinks like a fish, and terrible road manners. But genuinely a great vehicle. It has a certain level of charm that nothing else can compare to
The beauty of the Land Cruiser is you can drive it to the hospital to pickup your newborn, and 16 years later you can hand him/her the same keys to go to college.
The best SUV ever in my opinion! Period. A legendary maschine with unsurpassed quality and reputation. Buy one if you can afford it before they are gone.
He mentioned in the last livestream Jack and himself plan on doing videos on their personal car/daily drivers in the coming weeks discussing their ownership experience and problems
Not long ago Toyota Australia said the V8 diesel was being axed so all the remaining V8 diesels sold out in no time at basically full price. The upcoming 300 series Landcruiser is still coming to markets such as Australia and I look forward to it as I trust Toyota and believe the future non-V8's will still be ultra capable and ultra reliable. Fingers crossed the interiors retain as many physical buttons.
Hopefully, Toyota decides to make a simple turbo engine. Low pressure turbo engines are reliable, they just cost more to maintain. All depends on the details of course.
You can get the 3rd row in the Heritage for 21' only. Also can get silver or grey in the HE for 21', not just black or white. I used to sell Toyota’s and I totally agree the land cruiser is not a lease vehicle all the customer I’ve encountered who purchase land cruiser are ones who previous have owned them. And these customers typically don’t cross shop. They tell stories of their vehicle and they do purchase them to keep them. Soo true
There are 350 million people in the USA and Toyota sold 3500 Land Cruiser.‘s last year. .0001% of the population has this car. It is more rare than a Ferrari. Think about that a Toyota more rare than a Ferrari. Great review guys. This is the greatest vehicle ever built. It’s a hyper capable will last 30 years luxurious and over built. There is nothing on earth like a Land Cruiser.
Spread the cost over twenty years and the price isn't that outrageous. Just don't be silly and use this as a commuter vehicle. Save it for hauling the family, hauling stuff, and taking trips, especially to places lesser vehicles can't easily go.
Discontinued in the States but not in Asia, I actually owned two LC-200 V8 diesel ... 2009 and 2016. I can say it's bulletproof in terms of reliability and value. I won't trade anything for less... less is more!
I was in an Older Focus and the stereo just had a cd player and a small led screen for the radio stations. I miss the simplicity of the old stereo systems. The touch screens are great and everything they offer is helpful to people but it was nice to just see a simple radio. Great video.
Never mind Mark just explained about the quality and durability is exactly right actually him and Jack are dead on correct on this vehicle but the Land Cruiser has always been like this I still remember it in the 80s on my dad worked for the forklift division of Toyota, as a kid I open the door and sat in one, and as an adult I just recently did the same thing and you still get the same feeling about the vehicle.
The land cruiser is expensive because its parts are all top quality, built with extremely tight tolerances, (e g multiple times more precise than the competition)
Aswell as that, it's built to a higher standard than the rest of the Toyota pineup as well. Even the engine, most of the moving parts are beefier than the ones in the 5.7 tundra.
Wish I had this truck right now. One of the worst winter storms ever has hit a week ago in central Germany, we are buried in snow and in negative degrees F right now. Normaly we do not get this kind of weather at all. My cars, Ford Escape and Fiesta, are still stuck in a mountain of ice, been hiking to work three miles for six days now. Watching savagegeese to keep me warm at night!
09:50 "You're buying this to keep for 10-15 years" - I've kept my SKODA for more than that... A Land Cruiser is literally a vehicle you can keep your whole life! 30 to 40 years if you take care of it.
I’ve owned five Land Cruisers, and my current one is a 2012 - I love that they never seem to break. Literally I’ve not had a single problem with any of them. And as for the price, they are a steal when you calculate sales price you pay vs sales price you get when you sell it. I don’t need another one, my currently one has several hundred thousand miles left before I need to switch it, but this video has me considering buying a second one while I still can.
This is a vid of two knowledgeable guys telling us about the Land Cruiser AND a truly exceptional lead-in which combines landscape, views of the car, and music in a brilliant way - Geese, if you are the person responsible for that I’d seriously consider moving over to the creative side of the business - this lead-in is better than anything Toyota has ever put out for any of their cars (and far superior to the current ads for Lexus) and perfectly suited for a car in this price range. Just great….
@@JacesOwnWorld Well it'll probably hold it's value and potentially appreciate because it's known for lasting longer than the sun. However the usability experience (performance, comfort, tech, fuel economy) will all suffer as a result compared to everything else.
@@CrazyWeeMonkey there are a bunch of cars that “eventually appreciate” but that’s long term and it won’t ever reach the $80k price tag of it being new.
@@JacesOwnWorld Agreed, though I think this car/truck may be part of the exception. Look at how 4runners, tacomas, tundras hold their value. With big ICE "tank" cars beginning to no longer be sold I expect car/trucks like this to increase in value.
The introduction is very emotional. Especially when the color scheme switches to Black and White around 00:55. It was fun while it lasted, Dear Cruiser.
Great video! I truly miss the days of a bare-bones, all mechanical, body on frame, affordable SUV. I think if one of these manufactures like Toyota, Honda, GM etc. came out with a small, "old tech", all mechanical, off-road type, small 4x4, at an affordable price, they would go flying off the lot
It sounds like your are describing the FJ from the mid-2000s . With its current sky high resale value people forget FJs were priced as a very affordable alternative to the 4Runner at that time. Too bad the ergonomics were a disaster, the styling was juvenile and sales eventually fizzled out . Toyota has a capable and good looking 2 door Prado in production that could fill the same market space today. If they could be bothered to ship them over with the 4Runner and Lexus GX which are built in the same factory, Toyota would surely have a hit on their hands.

The cinematography, photography and overall production artistry is incredible. It just keeps getting better.
My biggest gripe with this rig is that it only has a 25 gallon tank. The Tundra gets a 38 gallon tank with the same drivetrain which is more adequate. For an “overland” vehicle you’d think they would prioritize range more than they do, if you’re off-road with bigger tires, bumpers, and gear, you’re probably only gonna get 250-300 miles in a tank which is pretty sub-par at this point.
Great review. I bought a 2021 well before Toyota announced they were killing it off. I got a great deal. Now everyone is paying over sticker and they are crazy expensive. I will say it again. This will be the most sought after iconic Land Cruiser ever made. Prices will stay sky high. How can somebody buy a Tahoe or a Yukon or a navigator instead of this monster? I just don’t get it but I understand our American large SUVs do better on comfort and space. Last parting thought. if you are in the market for an SUV and you have the means I would dive right in and get one. There is an X factor that the Land Cruiser has when you look at it in your driveway or your garage it’s a very special car. These are more rare than Ferraris and if you need to drive from the US to Argentina there is only one car that will get you there. And there you have it
We have one LC 5.7 L here in the Middle East, and we do not want anything else: Reliability is amazing, there is no bulls..it gadgets in the cabin. Roads here are straight, so cornering is not a matter of discussion. Air conditioning is more powerful than in any of the competitors, which is important here. Shopping mall, desert, towing, mountains, we do not ask ourselves if it is going to make it, but when we can go again. An iconic machine!
My grandma's husband has a 1985 Land Cruiser. That thing was beastly and reliable. he had it and abused it. Drives from SoCal to Nicaragua and back. He sold it in the early 2000's for top dollar. regardless of miles and condition. My aunt (His kid) bought a 2008 Lexus GX. Similar in quality, mechanics, capability and simplicity. I didn't understand the allure of those key features until my older years. I am thankful for these types of vehicles and that we can still hold on to that bit of "motoring." We are in a weird time. Seeing the transitions of what many of us grew up with (NA Engines, V8s, Manuals, ETC) to the modern approach (Turbos, Direct Injection, Stupid complicated screens and options). I will miss these types of vehicles with all my heart. The Land Cruisers, 370 Z's, Chevy SS's. Heck, Ill treasure my base model Chevy Spark more now. thank you for making and sharing this video!
Mark was talking about his XC90 being in the shop 4 times in the last 8 months. My 98 4Runner still hasn't ever been in the shop 4 times. It makes me wonder if he has ever owned a good Toyota. You know that rig isn't going to break down on your next trip, maintenance costs year in and year out will be negligible and if you want to sell it it will have great resale. I think old-school Toyota products are for people who don't like to throw their money down the drain when making a big purchase.
On the subject of the engine. The 5.7 V8 is available in most markets outside the US, but it’s optional not standard. This can be equipped with the 4.6 V8, and standard is the 4.0 V6
"Has such a tremendously warm resonant frequency" I feel the same way when I can no longer hold back the diarrhea while stuck in traffic and just let it escape, coating my legs and seating - that one minute of warmth which soon turns cold and foul.
Great video, people forget that the LC was designed and built to be used in the wild just as old LR Defender. Forget about seeing them driving up and down the parking lots in wealthy neighborhoods. LC was built to last, I was fortunate to have multiple deployments to the Middle East where we drove the LC on the regular and on few occasions we took them out on very bad terrain we always were impressed by the performance and the durability. It’s one of the very few true SUVs that Will not give you hesitation when turning the key. Long live the king, it will be missed.
I totally understand what you are trying to say about this thing, I got a Tacoma and bought it as my one and last pickup. Toyota doesn't do anything extraordinary, they just do everything really well. Reliability has a savings not only in cost but time. And time is so valuable today. Peace of mind not having to deal with stupid sh*t with your car...priceless
v8 pros: 1. makes more power 2. no cylinder deactivation 3. 'fairly reliable' 4. makes good power wow great analysis i really see why the v8 is essential in this car, thanks
My wife had a 2007 Yaris 5mt, we bought it used with like 1,500 miles on it in 2007 (back when it was a Toyota and not a rebadged Mazda). Oil changes, air filters, 1 brake job, and the 100k service (although it was still running fine before the service, I just follow the manual), clutch didn't slip even after ~120k miles of use. The AC compressor failed around 118k and the rear wheel speed sensors failed around 120k, so we traded it in towards a new 2017 corolla iM 6mt hatch - which has only seen routine maintenance to date. Meanwhile, I had a 2006 WRX wagon, and although I loved the cargo space, I was always working on it because stuff just failed/broke (endlinks, ball joints, clutch before 100k, radiator, the list goes on). When I got rid of it, I opted for a Lexus IS350 Fsport RWD instead, only a year in to ownership so far, but it's only been routine maintenance, and that's all I expect to have to do while I own it. Toyota/Lexus built a reputation, and are not resting on their laurels.

Congratulations!
@@AyAy008 Thank you!

Finally a car reviewer who totally understands this vehicle. Great video as always. Buy one while you can everyone.
I only own a beater 97 Camry and this thing just won't die. It makes me understand why the Land Cruiser is ridiculously expensive. Even 30 year old ones!
Honest to goodness review. Doesn't get any better than this. Good job Savagegeese👌👏👍
We are getting the new 300 Series here in NZ and Australia. But the stock of the existing 200 series are already sold out and used a selling more than 30% of the retail value. In Australia, the LC200 sales equalled the total sales of most European brands.
Same in russia and middle east! I still remember father owning 100 VX V8 2005🤩
What did they sell 10,000? Hoo,,,no that would be all the vehicles sold down under in a year.
@@2003evodave just in Australia in 2020 they sold, 15k Landcrusier 200 series. 18k- Landcrusier 150 Prado, and 12k - Landcrusier 80 series pick up.
In contrast, BMW sold 700 x7 model, and 300 x5 suv
Audi sold 200 q7, and Landrover sold 700 discoveries.
The funny thing is, the 300 looks to be a far superior vehicle.
My old man bought one of those with 380 000km on board, the thing felt and drove like new! Amazing vehicle!!!
LandCruisers sell like crazy here in Australia just down to their reputation, even with how expensive they are, they're absolutely everywhere
In the country roads you basically only see Land Cruisers and Hiluxes. I'm surprised how many people own them given the price but it does make sense.
How expensive is petrol or diesel in Australia?
More in Saudi Arabia
And Nissan Patrols
@@aqwplayer222 It doesn't make sense to me because usually ruggedness and simplicity is cheaper. I guess the resulting reliability should raise the price but it never has with cars, the opposite in fact.
My 91’ puts a smile on my face every day. It’s great. Slow, drinks like a fish, and terrible road manners. But genuinely a great vehicle. It has a certain level of charm that nothing else can compare to
The beauty of the Land Cruiser is you can drive it to the hospital to pickup your newborn, and 16 years later you can hand him/her the same keys to go to college.
With proper care the 'newborn' will drive their newborn home from the hospital in it as well.
And you're gonna pay his fuel bill?
I told my kid he can have it when he gets his license ..
The best SUV ever in my opinion! Period. A legendary maschine with unsurpassed quality and reputation. Buy one if you can afford it before they are gone.
I subscribed so hard that I got the Land Cruiser to break down for once.
Hardest subscription ever.
Don't lie, you couldn't break it
You had a wet dream :))
great review! Can you do a video on your XC90 and the issues you've had with it please?
XC90 still one of my top picks, would love for Mark to review his.
He mentioned in the last livestream Jack and himself plan on doing videos on their personal car/daily drivers in the coming weeks discussing their ownership experience and problems
Beautiful editing on that opening sequence.
So glad I got the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser before it’s gone
Videos keep pushing boundaries of quality. Superb and impeccable editing.
The 5.7 ltr iForce v8 is offered in Africa as well. Pretty much every Land Cruiser in Ghana (where I live) is the 5.7 V8.
I know cause I agree with this review 100% and picked up a Silver HE with 3rd row seating to replace my old Tundra and last me until retirement and beyond. Great review as always...these guys "get it"

And these customers typically don’t cross shop. They tell stories of their vehicle and they do purchase them to keep them. Soo true
Goodbye, Land Cruiser. You will be missed dearly.
*for now*
There are 350 million people in the USA and Toyota sold 3500 Land Cruiser.‘s last year. .0001% of the population has this car. It is more rare than a Ferrari. Think about that a Toyota more rare than a Ferrari. Great review guys. This is the greatest vehicle ever built. It’s a hyper capable will last 30 years luxurious and over built. There is nothing on earth like a Land Cruiser.
Said it before and I’ll say it again; is not an expensive car, it’s a long term relationship.
Spread the cost over twenty years and the price isn't that outrageous. Just don't be silly and use this as a commuter vehicle. Save it for hauling the family, hauling stuff, and taking trips, especially to places lesser vehicles can't easily go.
@@markmiller3279 you said it. You expressed what i intended to say
The problem is - you did'nt say that. Multiple other turds have used the same comment over and over.
The Land Cruiser is a legend, this is the end of an ERA
Discontinued in the States but not in Asia, I actually owned two LC-200 V8 diesel ... 2009 and 2016. I can say it's bulletproof in terms of reliability and value. I won't trade anything for less... less is more!
I was in an Older Focus and the stereo just had a cd player and a small led screen for the radio stations. I miss the simplicity of the old stereo systems. The touch screens are great and everything they offer is helpful to people but it was nice to just see a simple radio. Great video.
You buy a land cruiser for $80k because if you change your oils regularly it will run perfectly well for at least 20 years with no major issue.

"You're buying this to keep for 10-15 years" - I've kept my SKODA for more than that...
“My Heart Will Go On” 😂😂😂
This is a vid of two knowledgeable guys telling us about the Land Cruiser AND a truly exceptional lead-in which combines landscape, views of the car, and music in a brilliant way - Geese, if you are the person responsible for that I’d seriously consider moving over to the creative side of the business - this lead-in is better than anything Toyota has ever put out for any of their cars (and far superior to the current ads for Lexus) and perfectly suited for a car in this price range. Just great….
What I hate about this car: it lasts a life time that it won't give you a chance to change
this has got to be the most sentimental car review I've ever seen and idk why
Heard they're selling like crazy since they announced they're discontinuing them.
Smart if you aren’t going to use it. If you are going to use this, spending over $80k for this is a very bad decision
Collectors are buying them all up so they can park it in a garage for 15 years then resell it for 3x the original cost
@@JacesOwnWorld
Well it'll probably hold it's value and potentially appreciate because it's known for lasting longer than the sun. However the usability experience (performance, comfort, tech, fuel economy) will all suffer as a result compared to everything else.
@@CrazyWeeMonkey there are a bunch of cars that “eventually appreciate” but that’s long term and it won’t ever reach the $80k price tag of it being new.
@@JacesOwnWorld
Agreed, though I think this car/truck may be part of the exception.
Every video is a masterpiece tbh it’s shot beautifully
And there you have it
True, the Sequoia will get you there too..very solid suv.
An iconic machine!
find another 80-90k vehicle that you could use for 20 years, put over 250k miles on it, and still be worth 10-15k

I am thankful for these types of vehicles and that we can still hold on to that bit of "motoring."
We are in a weird time.
The 4.0 V6 is the choice for me.

20 years from now this will be the only Suv from 2021 still on the road.

Just make sure you win the lottery twice, to pay for 30 years of 13 MPG

2. no cylinder deactivation
3. 'fairly reliable'
4. makes good power

My neighbors 90s landcruiser still runs and has over 350k miles .
