NEVER Trust A Diamond Tester... Here's Why (Scam Alert)

  • I wanted to share this video on why you should never trust an inexpensive diamond tester when purchasing a diamond. Natural diamonds, lab diamonds and moissanites will all give positive readings claiming that the stone is a diamond. This is why it's incredibly important to purchase your diamond from a reputable seller who provides you with the proper GIA, IGI or AGS report for the specific diamond you're purchasing.
To be clear, there are more expensive testers that can distinguish between natural diamonds, lab diamonds and moissanites. While not always 100% accurate they are less likely to give you a false positive. Always get diamonds checked by a professional before purchasing.

That tester is a thermal conductivity tester, not electrical conductivity. Moissanite is thermally conductive like diamond. Diamond isn’t electrically conductive except for type 2B. Better testers differentiate between moisanite and diamond based on this.

Plus they are cheaper. Don't be a fool and fall for overpriced stone when you can have pretty much the same stone for a fraction of a price. Mind you, I have both - a diamond and a moussanite ring. Moissonites are really worth more ya know? They're easier to make, can come in a plethora of color combinations even able to mimic SPHENE, they have up to 3× the color refraction than a standard diamond. Cheaper price and similar hardness on the mohs scale. Not AS high as diamonds but a good proper Moissonite will land a 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale. I have a couple rings of them, ive seen moissonite come in Blue, Green, Teal, Pink, White, Yellow, Champaign, and even dabbled into color duos making some that mimic Sphene. Its only cheap cause we learned how to make it in a lab. Diamonds nowadays should also drop in price because of lab created abundance but the market doesnt want you to know that because then they make less money on a "timeless gemstone".

It is a beautiful stone and, unless you are able to buy a diamond ring that will increase in value, that’s what you should opt for in an engagement ring. @@leonalyon8201 Moissanite, in it's natural form, is rare. Only about 14-15 karats have been found. Lab grown is still moissanite just as lab grown diamond is still diamond. Moissanite is NOT a diamond, nor is it a synthetic diamond. It's a different stone. It shines more, has more fire than diamond. And is nearly as hard as a diamond. That's why moissanite will test as diamond. These testers test hardness. Moissanite barely rates below diamond, but is prettier. A cheap moissanite is not a good stone anyway. Don't buy cheap diamond testers period and the one your using not designed for Moissanites. The most effective way to tell Moissanite apart from a diamond is to use a loupe to look through the top, or the crown, of the jewel at an angle. You will see two slightly blurred lines that indicates a double refraction, an inherent quality of Moissanite. Double refraction is easier to see in some shapes than others

Moissanite is pretty expensive. Much rarer then Diamonds (Natural Moissanite that is)
Moissanite is only found in nature as an inclusion in in Diamonds.
And a natural Moissanite would be much more then a diamond.
Moissanite is worth more then many other natural gems.

@@chiccngeorge3058 It's a lab moissanite. Natural moissanite is more expensive and rarer than natural diamond. Moissanite fans want it because it's NOT diamond. It was never meant to be considered a synthetic diamond. It's far superior in color and fire to diamond anyway.

Moissanite earrings are NOT $40. Ring is NOT $70. Those aren't Moissanite. Moissanite is actually much more expensive, if they are real. $40 for earrings indicates cubic zirconia priced jewelry.
