Scorpion is long-range artillery weapons, resembling mounted large crossbows. A bolt fired from one carries enough velocity to pierce the skull of a dragon. It is fully pivotal and though it is best operated by a small team, it can be loaded and fired by a single soldier.

In season 7 Qyburn introduced the scorpion to Cersei and invites her to fire the bolt at the skull of Balerion.
After one failed attempt from Sir Bronn in season 7 in season 8, the scorpions got more exposure.

Drogon went back to the dragon mount on dragon stone to play some video games after his bros both got pussy shot out of the sky, in the fight at kings landing he must have gotten pro at astroids and aliens.
The last two seasons made the dragons feel like they were made out of glass. Every time they got on screen it was like hold breath other were going to survive. Seriously, after all the build up, who really is afraid of dragons if a crossbow can kill it?

Season 8 basically demonstrated the change of USAF bomber doctrine from high-altitude speed to low-altitude manoeuvrability due to improvements in Soviet anti-aircraft weaponry.
I kno they were the bad guys bt i do luv the idea of humanity overcoming threats thru science...like ina few yrs the scorpion 3.0 will undoubtdly rule the battlefield even against dragons

I still wonder WHY they never put armor on dragons. It would have made the scorpions obsolete and saved Viserion and Rhaegal from death.
If I recall correctly, the dragons have natural armor. I believe it was stated that as a dragon grows older, the harder the scales get as well as the fire getting hotter. The Valerians were peaceful after their empire was settled, so why would they assume to make armor for their dragons? If armor was discussed, it would be for the younger dragons whose scales were still weakened, but this is just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
@@elisab5432 yeah, i know im late, but i feel like the scorpion bolts, although powerful, i feel like they are not enough to kill a full grown dragon, i rewatched GOT and the part where rheagal gets shot, the ones to the body did penetrate, but not all the way, now the ones to the weaker parts of the scales such as the neck/face can kill it. idk its just the way i see it. now if enough arrows do hit the stronger scales of the main body then yeah i think itll do the trick.
No steel is stronger than dragon scales, the ballista bolts are made from dragonglass stips.
There's no saving for Veserion because the Ice Spear can shatter steel.
Late comment here, but armor that was thick/heavy enough might prevent a dragon from flying. Honestly, dragons in HOTD, GOT, and the ASOIAF books have to rely on magic already anyways, as in real life, a creature like that is not physically able to fly, so they have to fly utilizing supernatural, otherworldly, poorly understood abilities. Plate armor might just be too much.

The Rhaegal killing was very anticlimactic. Not a fitting end for the dragon! Viserion literally became a wight breathing blue flames!

Valyrian steel is light but it is incredibly RARE and only expert smiths can craft something out of it.

It would have been much better if Drogon showed up with armour. This would come across as preparation from team Danny. Then let 1 arrow hit it, but because of the armour it has no effect. Much better. Much cleverer .. nothing..nothing .nothing.. s8 was a disaster.
She didnt even need to use dragons. Just have the army destroy the scorpions with the trebuchet then dragons come to finish the rest.
And also a lot of jugs with wildfire. He could have been... a bomber then B-)
