My daughter in law had 3 miscarriages. One was a set of twins. They kept the twins & their final 5th pregnancy a secret from even family including me. When she was nearly 6 months pregnant and beyond the danger zone they finally shared the news with family. Ellen was heartless & cruel trying to force the issue.

There’s so many reasons not to drink. Certain medications can be dangerous to drink on, you might have to be sober for an event, religious/personal beliefs, the list goes on. Doing this on a daytime talk show is an insane abuse of power and I’m surprised more people in the moment didn’t realize how awful that was. If I were a celebrity I wouldn’t go near the Ellen Show with a 10 foot pole

Anyone who actually paid attention to her show would’ve seen this coming from a mile away. There’s been several moments where she’ll have subtle digs towards her audience members. Whenever audience members would be interviewed and expressed their excitement, she’d do this fake laugh and look at the audience like “take a look at this idiot.” It happened pretty often.
I’d definitely suggest going back and watching some of her older interviews. She constantly displayed fake love to anyone that wasn’t a celebrity and would mock her audience under the guise of ‘comedy.’ You can tell some of them caught on and felt uncomfortable but what can you say on live TV to someone giving you life changing money.

Yup, I always thought Ellen was really rude & passive aggressive. She also outright mocked a lot of 'normal' people. I only watched it a handful of times so I'm sure more long time viewers would've seen more. Some of her 'pranks' were actually low key cruel too. Everyone laughed it off (probably from nervousness) but some of the things she thought was funny... so bad

I'm watching this video and remembering when my daughter and I went to the Ellen show.
The first time we went there, we didn't get in, but got priority seats for the next show. I am black, and my daughter is mixed.
When we walked into the studio we were immediately seated off to the back, even though we saw empty seats in the front rows.
I didn't make much of it even though I suspected the reason why.
My daughter loved the show and wanted to go back again for her birthday, so we got tickets again.
This time when we went into the studio,
my daughter was in front of me, and she was pointed to the front row seats, and as I started to follow her, I was stopped, and directed to the back seats on the side. When I told the blonde Blue eyed lady that I wanted to be seated with my daughter, she pointed us both to the back seats.
This made me so angry that I wrote to the show and told them what happened.
After that we couldn't get tickets anymore. I didn't really care, but my daughter blamed me for getting us band from the show.

As someone with autism, thank you for pointing that out. It's entirely different! Even if the eye contact I do make is more brief, I still try because I want to be friendly to others. It's either that or I'm looking at their eyebrows.

If I was totally serious, frustrated inside replying to Ellen's "jokingly pushing", meanwhile the audience is laughing bc they are all made to think this is a shtick... my blood would be boiling. I work on the phone, sometimes with a translator required, and the way she treated the kid and the translator made my blood boil! So incredibly rude to both parties. Kind of felt…maybe not racist, but gross.
The way she sat with her back more or less to the translator was rude.

I went to watch a taping of Ellen when I was on a trip in California - as a Brit, the whole experience was absolutely bizarre! We had to show up super early before the time on the tickets, queue in a random carpark, have our photos taken by production staff (no idea what these were used for). Then people were selected to give there details to potentially take part in the show and they were taken off separately. We were then left waiting in a random corridor for hours with no indication on what was happening. When we did get in we were told where to sit, when to laugh, when to stand, when to sit, when to dance, when to react. In the spaces left for ad breaks Ellen completely turned her back on the audience and pretended we weren't there. The celebrities were on stage for all of about 4 minutes. When the taping was over Ellen basically just said "thanks, bye" and walked out. We were ushered out by production staff and told we had to leave the premises immediately and were not allowed to even look in the gift shop because there was another taping coming it. It felt truly strange seeing all these American women going crazy with excitement and just so over enthusiastic for an experience which to me felt completely hollow and a waste of time
Unfortunately, its because of viewers who are blinded by these "celebrities" allow this behaviour to carry on. Just the word "celebrity" winds me up tbh. Sorry to hear you wasted your time and money on a bad experience.

my dad used to work at Warner Brothers where her show is filmed and he told me (literally probably 15+ years ago) she has a "no look policy" meaning if youre walking by her and LOOK IN HER DIRECTION, she can have you kicked off the property. thats it. thats who ellen is.

The real issue I have with this fiasco is not how fake Ellen was/is. As I can see through her fake "kindness" a long time ago. But then even I was shocked by the fact that her guests, even high profile celebrities, were being bullied in her show without any retaliation afterwards. It speaks volumes about the power behind her show that even celebrities had to submit. Well, Hollyweird is getting darker the more you dig.

Not to mention that her background use to be the Jeffrey Epstein island and his home there. Then after the Epstein documentary came out on Netflix and the Giselle Maxwell case catching up on fire, she changed it after people questioned why she had that man’s vile home where all the abuse- both sexual and non sexual- and trauma happened as the foreground of the background that gets the most screen time.
That was enough to show her character and the clips of her behavior is just a bonus.

It breaks my heart that mariah lost her baby soon after that interview with ellen. That's absolutely awful. You can't force someone to reveal something private if they aren't ready. The first trimester is always the most vulnerable too. And the way ellen treated the translator is disgusting! It was rude, dismissive and hard to watch. It makes me sad that she had this show for so many years about kindness and compassion and yet she wasn't practicing what she preaches. Smh. So disappointing.

I always thought it was cruel how she would scare people and get such a kick out of it. She would do this by having someone sneak up behind them. Sometimes she would find out their phobias and then present them with what they were afraid of, from snakes to clowns. Phobias are serious fears. You don't mess with that.

Whilst I agree, let's not lose sight on the definition of phobia - an irrational fear. I would be careful with affirming the seriousness of it as it can hinder the development of useful coping/management techniques.

I was so disgusted with Ellen forcing Mariah Carey to announce a pregnancy... I'm personally going through fertility issues and it's honestly one of the hardest things I've ever dealt with and I know I would have had a seriously bad reaction to someone doing anything remotely close to this to me. I can't wait for ellen to be off the air
@Charay Cannon I'm sorry you're going through this as well. I would definitely encourage you getting all of your testing done and getting as many opinions as you can before heading into any fertility treatment.
I've had 7 pregnancy losses and I don't plan on announcing a pregnancy until I'm through my first trimester. I don't have any children yet but I'm having my first embryo transfer in June so hopefully this will be my time!

As someone who has miscarried 2 babies, next time I get pregnant I want to be as private about it as possible. It’s heartbreaking to announce it and then have to tell people you miscarried. What she did to Mariah was cruel. So much goes on in a pregnant woman’s mind… so many fears… You never know when a pregnancy will be viable or not. Just cruel.

Yeah she would just run to the back of the stage without turning back while her celeb guest, one being john cena, lingered around to wave at guest and talk to the producers/film crew all happily. When it was time to get back on her face went from 😒 to 😃 so quick. The first show i went we had to sign a form for a prize and i asked the lady who worked there (i think an intern? Idk) if i could borrow her pen and she lent me one and i said “must be soo cool to work on Ellen” and she gave me a stale “ehh yeaaaa” I always dreamed of working for her but its all a facade :(

Well frankly, it's apparently a sign of insecurities or they're trying to hide something depraved, it's a saying that if you really look into people's eyes you see into their soul, she's not the only one whom done that, Diana Ross, Ushers, Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire I've heard Alicia Keys, don't like those looking into her eyes, (again rumor)..but I know a couple of people on the list,has questionble behavior.
Autistic people have an incredibly hard time making eye contact due to overstimulus, but people like Ellen do it as a form of belittlement, and refusal to acknowledge another’s needs and humanity.

I specifically said in her case it probably isn’t about difficulty. And even if she is autistic as well and does have difficulty, her attitude around it is still wrong and toxically communicated.
Autistic people can be narcissistic too, which is a general statement, not meant to imply that Ellen is (autistic).

The waitress story is horrible. She lost her job because Ellen thought her nail polish was cheap!
That’s not actually the reason. Chipped nail polish is a hygiene issue because it stores bacteria where it’s flaking and it can come off in someone’s food. Many restaurants forbid staff wearing polish entirely because of this. It’s possible Chris broke their rule, and maybe it was the last straw for her with her boss. No way to tell. Still crappy of Ellen to report her, though.

When someone's pregnant it's very sensitive to announce it. Because people announce it too early n then miscarriages happen. Imagine telling everyone ur pregnant and then having to take it back. Pregnancy has a lot of superstitions and u have to wait till like 12 weeks or so b4 announceing it because of the risk of losing it. No one should ever feel pressured to admit they are pregnant before they are ready because so much can go wrong and miscarriages are so personal and private. It's not ur right to know what's going on with someone's body like that. I mean she could have made it like a cute joke to guess if she was but no instead of a cute little skit she brought alcohol to force her. She just did everything wrong here I mean I wouldn't have been surprised if she forced her way to touch Mariahs belly at that moment to guess. Like that's how inappropriate she was with that situation

I get what you’re trying to say. But I just want to say, if you’re reading this. You DO NOT have to wait until 12 weeks. You CAN celebrate the life of your child whether you are 3,4,5 weeks or 12+ weeks. Anything can happen at any point in any pregnancy. If it is something you wanted embrace it and enjoy every minute. If you want to tell the world at 5 weeks go for it! That baby matters no matter how long you carry it ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Of course celebration whenever you want but she didn't want to tell anyone yet she was comfortable and she was cautious. And many people in her situation would feel the same and want to wait

It breaks my heart that Mariah was out in that position. Any woman that has experienced trouble falling pregnant, experiences any kind of child loss knows how devastating and painful it is. For her to put her in a position to drink alcohol was so disgusting and wrong. What an awful human.

It’s comforting to know that I am not the only one who has also suffered from toxic working experience- I finally quit last year after holding up as long as I could for more than six years working there, and have been taking a break since and doing self therapy. I so get what you said about the PTSD thing as months after leaving I would still have weird dreams of either still working there or quitting for the second time🙄 Although I am looking for jobs now and think it’s about time to get back to work but the idea of going back to a workplace or the fear of running into that kind of toxic dynamic again just makes my stomach sink. I don’t think anyone would truly understand the negative impact on mental health that toxic working experience brings unless they have experienced it, they will just think: get over it, it just a bad day at work.

She isn't being funny when she talks to people. She is actually being abrasive, domineering, critical and terse with her tone. A good example is how she spoke to that translator. People try to laugh it off, or act like it's just her adorable quirkiness, but she is actually being very condescending and rude. She acts annoyed that she even has to interact with anyone, and not just "normal" people, but even other celebrities.
She even pushed Ariana Grande talking about Mac Miller.. She didn’t want to talk about it and Ellen still continue to make Ariana uncomfortable during the interview!.. it’s just so unacceptable!..

Back in 2007 Celine Dion appeared on the Ellen Show to promote her album and tour but instead Ellen brought the focus to Celines son who was only 6 years old at the time, she made a comment about how Celine was neglecting her son because he had long hair and implied that it needed cutting, it’s one of the rare times I’ve seen Celine look visibly mad during an interview.

I use to be a huge fan of Ellen’s since her first sitcom in the early 90s, I watched it in college. I have a chronic illness and The Ellen DeGeneres show was the one thing I looked forward to everyday bc of the “so called” kindness and laughter, it lifted my spirits. When the truth came out about Ellen in 2020 I stopped watching her show and unfollowed her on IG and FB. I have lost all respect for this woman who I admired half my life. The show’s contract was up in 2022, there was no way the Network was going to renegotiate with Ellen. They should of canceled the show in 2021 in my opinion. Thanks for all you do Sloan!!!
Same. I have such fond memories watching her show with my mother after school. Our relationship had always been rocky, but watching Ellen brought us together at least a little bit. It's extremely disappointing that she ended up being a monster behind the scenes, it's inexcusable.

I was on her show. She apologized when I didn’t win the prize but I agree with the other person that posted she doesn’t care about her audience she was more concerned with other things vs interacting with her fans.

What TV host has time for audiences? My dad worked on Larry Kings show as an associate producer and he told me this outrage is stupid. A talkshow host can't be "on" all the time and professionals get it. He said some guests asked for no eye contact but the crew understood that's BECAUSE INTROVERTS STRUGGLE WITH CONTACT especially when they're nervous about going on air. My dad says people just expect sociability from women because Johnny Carson, Leno and Letterman were the same. I'm not one to White Knight but I agree with my dad. This cancellation is dumb

Like, she can't just use being a lesbian as an excuse for being an outright bitch to people, same as I couldn't use being trans as an excuse for being horrible. Oh and I researched what an executive producer is- it's not like the executive producer knows a whole lot about what goes into filming in the first place, execs are there to worry about the production getting on air in time, management accounting (aka handling money for the actual managers of the project) and in case there's any legal issues to deal with. Which, don't get me wrong, is hard work, but it doesn't really have to do with the actual filming process.

I lived in Japan and the Japanese people are very non confrontational. The interpretor was treated horribly. The Japanese language is very different and sometimes it is hard to translate English to Japanese. Ellen is a two faced person who seems to enjoy making the guests feel uncomfortable. I have never sat through an entire show because it felt very fake.

The no eye contact or greeting thing is so weird to me. I've worked at giant corporate organizations where upper management had no idea who I was. Totally understandable when there are thousands of people in one building. That being said, anyone was willing to smile and give a polite greeting when you passed them in the hall. It's just being a person. And sure, not everyone enjoys eye contact. But to instruct your staff to tell others not to look at you in the eye? What kind of God complex does that take...

Chipped nail polish in food service is a health hazard. I don’t think it’s that crazy to report. A week later, as alleged in some articles, is kinda wild. The restaurant chose to do what they did, not Ellen. If I ate food at a place where staff was not conscious of health codes, I’d stay something too and stop eating there.

Miscarriages are so hard and announcing pregnancy is deeply personal and not something you want to do because someone else asked you to. The fact that she lost a baby makes me mad because she probably didn’t want everyone talking about that or having to make a statement about it.
