  • This is the first start of the YZ build and my first test ride. The flywheel weight seems to be doing its job and I'm pleased with the platform. Now on to WAY more testing & modifications.

Great to see some footage of you riding! Real world testing, symptoms, and adjustments are awesome to share in a format like this video. Especially jetting. Being able to hear a rich or lean condition is a huge part of jetting.

Very interesting video dude. Thanks for sharing. I put a fly wheel weight on my kx450x and found it helped more than I expected and it only 11 or 12 oz. Made me wonder at the time if even more weight would benefit even more. From my understanding of how a flywheel changes power delivery, I assumed a bigger weight would be even better to smooth power and limit stalling.

If only I could fit a heavier flywheel on my 450. The newer yz450f’s have absolutely no room for a weight. Would definitely dial it in perfectly.

    Gotta love the modern bikes,
However there is something special about kickstart, carburetor and knowing you’ll be able to get parts for the next 50years
After all the testing I am curious to hear how much the flywheel affected the engine characteristics and how close or far off it compares to an enduro bike
If someone had a 250x CDI that you could borrow for a test , that would be interesting as well ( assuming this is the motocross model)

Makes sense about the traction benefits as you described. Does adding a flywheel wight conversly add to more clutch wear with slow speed riding where it takes a bit more to rev up and not stall? Not sure if I've phrased that question correctly.

    • @ChuckfromTrueTech
      @ChuckfromTrueTech  4 месяца назад +1

It should do the opposite. You should need less clutch IF the engine has enough power. That’s why I did the porting & the head.

Great video Chuck! Few questions for you.
Is a flywheel of this moment of inertia (weight x diameter) for sale anywhere?
Do you plan to sell this flywheel? Or the plans/drawings?
Seems like you may have an opportunity here? Id love to see you succeed and earn the big money that you deserve!
Was there any moment during your test ride where you thought to yourself "wow the bike behaved much differently than without the added flywheel weight"
Where have you noticed the flywheel weight really shine?
Keep the updates coming! Personally i think yZED videos are a dime a dozen but I'm super interested in comparing with and without flywheel since it's such a drastic difference.

I ride between 1000’ and 6000’ most often. I forget what the jetting is. It’s wonky due to the head & the porting. Every bike & every rider is unique. I find jetting specs largely useless.

    • @ChuckfromTrueTech

I drip a fair bit down the bottom end while building the engine and mix a bit rich for break-in. I’ve actually been considering richening up my oil ratio permanently. More power & better lubrication.
