@trackStafford Im 53 and going to get back into riding. I havcnt had a dirtbike since the 90s. Since Im basically starting over what are your thoughs on something like a YZ250FX? Or would you think something like the Kawasaki 300R would be better? Ill be riding in your area looks like. I live in Washington, UT.
@@octanejimmy YZ250FX is a great bike. It's not going to be as easy and mellow as the 300R however. If you want the easier bike to ride it's going to be the 300R. If you want a bike you can go into as your skills get better the 250FX is the better choice. The 250FX is still a pretty easy bike to ride.
I recently put a pwk36 on my boys 250x. Jetting is just about dialed in and holy crap is it good! The power comes on much earlier and with more torque. Still plenty of high end.
I think it's beneficial everywhere. It doesn't change how the bike lugs right off idle, but if you are anywhere past 1/8 to 1/4 throttle I feel a difference. Anytime you need to give it a blip of throttle or if you are cruising some singletrack, it makes it much more controlled. Also anytime you give it a handful the bike just pulls instead of yanking your arms off once the power hits.
The only thing they did was take a shim out on the 23 just like people would do on the previous X models. This only removes the hesitation before the power kicks on. This system has all new springs and arms in the power valve box. My bike had the same setup as the 23 and this is noticably different. Check out their youtube linked in my description.
You going to try the fisch moto estart? I just ordered mine 😬. Apex head, lectron, estart, hitlis...I should've just gone with the ktm after all this money and mods. Oh well, YZ's are easy and fun to work on it what I tell myself, haha.
Cool video. I love my HITLIS setup and dealing with Tim is awesome. I also installed a Rekluse auto clutch. The combination of the two is really nice. Did you go with his jetting recommendations? Your bike sounds great.
I've done his jetting, JD Jetting, Apex Jetting, Suzuki needles. I'm running a Lectron Billetron Pro now and it's better than all those settings I've tried , but it's expensive.
@@SingletrackStafford - Great to know. I installed the same carb a week ago and just finished dialing it in. I love it so far! Glad to hear your experience has been the same.
@@DSHoss Yeah mine took a little dialing as well. It was rich when I got it. I went 3/4 turn leaner on the rod. Matt told me to dial the rod for idle and then tune the power with the torque and power jets. I got the idle where I liked it and then went a little richer on the torque jet and keep the power jet at the factory set spec. It's definitely a step up from the Keihin IMO.
@@SingletrackStafford Do you have an Apex head on your machine too? The xc version? Wondering how those two work together and if it's worth the investment of installing the head. How does the Apex head work with the Hitlis system? Sorry for so many questions!
@@surfpr727 I have Apex high altitude XC dome. It helps with the bottom end because the stock one doesn't have a lot of compression. The Hitlis helps everywhere else. I think they compliment each other well. If you were only to do one mod, I would do the Hitlis.
Curious on which gear you used for hill climbs. I have the '23 x and I feel like the 3rd gear is so short that I feel like I am still on 2nd gear when shifting.
@@SingletrackStafford I was 13/50 before then switched back to stock 14/50. Did you also notice that shifting to 3rd gear still feels and sounds like you are still on 2nd gear?
Would you install this Hitlis system on a YZ250 for enduro? Is it true that the YZ250 has a better motor and transmission than the X model? Trying to decide which ones best for enduro.
What kind of enduro are you doing? I do more western US mountain singletrack so the X is great for that. I would install it on any YZ. It's a great system. For what I do I prefer the X transmission. The higher 4th and 5th gear makes it nice to cruise road sections or rip through long washes. The spacing of the motocross transmission is more even, which is why people say that, but it has less top speed. The X also has a different CDI that's better for technical riding. The stock head on X is tamed down from the motocross model by increasing the volume via the squish band, so those that want a lot of power say the X is too weak, but you could have someone cut it down for cheap and you'd have the same as the motocross model. For the CDI, transmission, 18 inch wheel, kickstand, I like the X better for what I do. I can't speak for you specifically, but I think it's easier to tune up the X than to tame down the YZ.
@@chrisbeliveau9845 I just spoke to Tim over there and the pulleys for the secondaries are different in the PV box for Desert vs the Woods version. The Desert kit power will come on a little quicker.
That kick on the hillside was prolevel! Nice save there.

I’d love to see some steady throttle testing, hold at 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 etc under light load. Really appreciate the video
That's a great idea. Maybe I'll work on that for the next one. Thanks for watching!
