The two best metal riff/song writers on the internet. I'm pretty sure the total death toll you guys have from people crushing their own skulls into their desks from head banging is of genocidal enormity.
Insane amps.. I just played an outdoor festival and sound guy turned me down to 40% volume at my amp. Everytime I play a show this little amp blows me away. I used to be a Marshall purist. It’s so nice carrying this setup around too
I just picked one up & I'm literally amazed how good this amp sounds right out of the box. One note though..the "Lead" selection on the front is less than stellar although the "Ultra" option is literally out of this world..warm but super crunchy & very adjustable with volume control. Outstanding amp..
I get the same impression as you, he wasn't impressed but mesa is way expensive and heavier to carry to gigs, money wise, I guess Hand K is better option, you get more for your buck
Been following you for so long Ola (and am the proud owner of two Solar guitars) and in the search for a new amp I came across this from 6 years ago… damn dude it’s so good to see how far you’ve come; not only in what you have achieved from a business perspective but how much of your personality now comes through in ALL of your videos and how you have developed as a true professional. Keep doing what you do bro, we ALL appreciate it more than you know!!
That clean riff almost sounds like that song ATWA from System of a down. I could give you a cigarette box full of duck shit and you'd make it sound good, love your playing as always man.
I previously owned a Hughes and Kettner Switchblade. Flawless amp. First all tube amplifier with digital effects. Wish I still had it! Switching between channels was amazing. Also a midi foot controller. If you had delay or reverb ringing through a solo then switched to rhythm to chug, your last note would carry over. You cannot hear the channel change! I have yet to see another amp do this.
I bought it and it is really worth it. It is super versatile, you can explore countless different sounds, storing the presets is very practical, noise gate, all the effects, I mean it's just fucking perfect.
This amp is lil powerful beast it will handle 4x12 speaker with no problem. I have the H&K TubeMeister Deluxe 40 and i just bought a Tung-sol tube kit and the sound is Day and Night and i love it. Finally i see some one play aggressive metal on a H&K for that i thank you Ola, you get a \m/ x2 , for making it sound good.
I tried this amp out at Guitar Centre, and damn it sounded great. The only thing I didn`t like was the highs, it made the soloing sound a tad brighter than I`m used to - but that easily can be fixed. It has great rhythm sounds
Nice to see a Hughes and Kettner review from a more than worthy player who is rooted from a metal background. I had the Deluxe 40 but wish it had reverb. I used a external reverb pedal but not a fan of that. This will now fit the bill and then some. Very much looking forward to the new Feared album! Cheers Ola!
I never heard or seen a Hughes and kentter until I walked into a pawnshop in a small town in Texas, I seen this little bitty head sitting on a shelf so I started checking it out, I got a 4x12 cab and plugged it in and I was so amazed how this tubemister 5 sounded, So I started looking online for this amp head and seen the comments and how good this amp was, I got it extremely cheap like $80.00, I think they didn't know what they had... So now I have to say it was one of the best sounding tube heads I bought in a very long time
James Brown never tried one... i also got a v40, its a killer blues amp... There is no victory dealer near my place so i need to order them by guessing. I think that it is a good time to wait for the super kraken cause there was a super countess and a v40 deluxe at Namm17 so we probably get a super kraken as well
Alex Oberhauser good point but I'm not in the market for one tbh, I just got my v30 down at andertons. next thing for me is a horizon devices precision drive!
Dude...i just got the grandmeister 36 used but in great condition for 600 bucks. Stoked to be getting back into guitar again. I will be getting a solar guitar to go with it! Now if only i could play like Ola..
I know it is not, but it offers a LOT of settings and the ability to create, save, and switch presets. Those are the biggest selling points of modeling amps, and their only real advantages over tube counterparts. This is a tube amp that has all the advantages of a modeling amp, without being a digital amp.
I think if more musicians gravitate towards 128 midi channel switching tube amps with the features H&K is using, in the Coreblade, Switchblade, and Grandmiester amps more amp manufacturers will jump on the band wagon. I'm really surprised that this hasn't yet, since I bought my Rocktron Pro Gap, then later Pirannha preamps. I now have a Coreblade loaded with KT88's lol
tube amps are overpriced and make you replace tubes and dont even sound any better than solid state except cheap garbage ones. they suck anyway, smart people get a kemper or something.
Hoshi Hearts smart people get whatever they need ;) For example, personally I don't need a Kemper or something. Also I love how you say tube amps are overpriced when any decent mod amp cost twice as much as this one ^^
Feels like before I bought my TubeMeister 18, no one was talking about H&K at all, then I bought it, and the brand has been on everyone's channel: Anderton's, Glenn Fricker's, Fluff's, yours... :O I probably missed a few, but this certainly didn't happen when I bought an Orange. They were already pretty popular to begin with.
Holy shit, this could be my next gas purchase... the in built fxs and the soak powers are a very very cool addition. You can play in your bedroom and on a stage with 40w... This is like a cheap (atleast for us EU) version of a mark series.
I've been using the GM36 for years! It replaced my entire pedal board which used to be in a keyboard case, then I went to a podhd, soon abandoned for just the amp.
Hi Ola... I'm from Brazil and I love your videos . Certainly my way to play the guitar is from your way. Thanks for share your happy and experience with us and... maybe , one day I Will can meet U and play together .
Pretty happy seeing Ola doing a demo of this amp =) I bought the TubeMeister Deluxe 20 because of his size and his versality (i think it is not so different from this amp in the distortion section) and i added in front of a MXR GT-OD (even with the lead channel and boost activated) in order to have a high gain "Metal Djenty" distortion ^^". Maybe i should have saved more money to buy the GrandMeister Deluxe 40. Nice riffs also \o/ , love Feared !
Hey Ola, I'd love to see you do a tutorial on how to get a range of metal tones out of your amp settings, guitar tuning, etc. For example, I'd really like to see how you would dial in a Plini-style lead tone or a rhythm tone similar to Electric Wizard and any others you think are cool and unique. Always, thanks for all the great vids and for being awesome!
For electric wizard get yourself a boss fz-2 or a clone of it. Plini uses axe FX so he's probably tinkering in there all day long until he has what he likes
So for playing a style of metal such as deathcore would this be a good amp? I'm listening to this thing finally after looking and forgetting about it a few months ago and im being blown away by the tones this thing can produce but I'd like some input from other people
hey ola. do you think you'll ever review some low watt/high gain lunchbox size heads? it'd be cool to see you demo the Ironball, Thrasher 50, 6505mh, etc.
Oooolllla thanks for this video, but! But what's Better this amp or the engl 20se To play at home and with the band? Thank you so much im going Crazy 😂
Try some discontinued or out of stock stuff. I have an H&K Warp X and a Sovtek Mig 60. My buddy has a Warp T. I'd love to hear your take on these amps.
Just repaired one of these. A shorted EL84 then damaged the cathode cut-off MOSFETs and their driver transistors. The entire thing had to be disassembled to access the area. Not fun and not cheap to repair.
I bought this amp because I needed one for a gig instantly and the local guitar dealer had one in stock. I did like five minutes of research before and couldn't believe what they claimed about the amp. But it's true
Ola, I just ordered the Grandmeister from Sweetwater and I am trying to decide on a cabinet. I was planning on getting a V30 212 cab. My choices are the Hughes & Kettner, Mesa, Bogner, Soldono, or Friedman. Which 212 V30 would you recommend out of those manufacturers? Is the Hughes & Kettner matching cab good enough? I ask because the Mesa 212 V30 cab is the same price as the Hughes & Kettner. I value your opinion so any info to help me make a decision on which cab to buy would be greatly appreciated.
I've got a line 6 spider 4 I believe and I still think it's a good amp. But I brought a grandmeister 36 last year and would highly recommend them. Beautiful amps has alot to give for its size and it looks amazing in a dark room. The clean tones are fantastic and haven't struggled to dial tone unlike my line 6. You can get a great rockabilly tone by using a tiny bit of delay backed up by some nice reverb or if you want to really get those tubes hot grab a strat and hit that boost on ultra and your killing it. Must buy
So for silent recording of modern metal/tight high gain tones would the H&K GM deluxe 40 be a good option or would something like a peavey 6505 plus or bugera tririg and a cheap jet city attenuator/soak box be better? Trying to keep it to around 1000€ if I can
saw demo of this amp on a different channel and was thinking that it would be awesome if Ola tried to get his tone out of this...time to start saving up :D
Hey ola I have a question. Im debating between this and the meda triaxis. I love the mesa tones the preamp has and i was wondering if the ultra channel on the H&K is anywhere near that kind of sound (mesa mark iv). Im personally looking for a wintersun base tone and they used the triaxis extensively. The grandmeister on the other hand has amazing features and price wise in my country both products are around the same price. What do you say? :) the v 25/35 can be an option aswell. Amazing review btw \m/
huge and kettner
I love it when Ola mispronounces words
wait you mean "Huge Grant" is incorrect?
Akif Hafie I wish someone would give me a huge grant. then I can afford all this gear that ola demos.
+Delirium Trigger Your joke was 30 times better than the original yet he got 30 times more likes than you!
YUUUUGE
Easily the best looking amp ever.
@Roof Korean Not all do. The newer ones do yes.
Yes
Dual Rectifier is the best looking amp for me.
Can confirm, I have an 18W version and it's drop dead gorgeous.
Mine is Mesa boogie triaxis.
integrated noise gate must be a standard feature for every amp, from most affordable to most expensive
Salesman ola 🤣. Most formal video I've ever seen him do.
hi i'm old england !
hi i'm old england !
hi I'm old england!
hi I'm All England!
lol
hi i'm old england !
Killer video!

Outstanding amp..
I picked up a Tubemeister 36 about a month ago and haven't looked back since, would highly recommend anything Hughes and Kettner. Pure quality!
Shawn Zajac still sounds good to me bud! :)
I wish EVH did something like that.
Imagine a 5150III mini with all these features!
Choosing this over 5150III 50 watt (both) probably
It be great if other tube amp manufacturers would follow suit.
If I'm not wrong, Jeff Waters plays this!
He's one of the most talented yet underrated guitarists ever. Great tone Ola!
Allan Holdsworth's favorite amps were Hughes and Kettners. He loved the Switchblade
Devin Townsend had a video playing this amp the other day, seems like a seriously good amp
I mean sound wise mesa still have the edge, but devin was still clearly impressed by how customisable the footswitch and fx were
I get the same impression as you, he wasn't impressed but mesa is way expensive and heavier to carry to gigs, money wise, I guess Hand K is better option, you get more for your buck
I could give you a cigarette box full of duck shit and you'd make it sound good, love your playing as always man.
you got some bangers too man! heard em on a few of your vids, fuckin sick \m/,
This is absolutely the best demo of this amp. I love the tones Ola is getting!
This is a year old now but I just got this thing and it’s a monster. Love this amp! It powers 4 12s” nicely.
No matter what Ola, all your riffs sound heavy as FOQ
because the first ingredient of tones is the player , lol
I never expected H&K to be pushing the bill of innovation, but this is an incredible piece of engineering and tone!
They always have. That brand has been nonstop pushing the boundaries since the 80s. Matter of fact, the first midi controllable amp is from them.
H&K is life! Still have my Trilogy, can't wait to use it on stage! Thanks for the demo!
I bought it and it is really worth it. It is super versatile, you can explore countless different sounds, storing the presets is very practical, noise gate, all the effects, I mean it's just fucking perfect.
Production on this video: SLICK.
THAT INTRO RIFF IS AMAZING! I really hope it will be in new FEARED album! Can't wait for it, great job Ola!
Cheers!
p sure it ended up on his solo album lmao
Just bought one. Awesome. And Ola: You and Rabea (Massaad) always save the day. Thanks a lot!!!
I tried this amp out at Guitar Centre, and damn it sounded great. The only thing I didn`t like was the highs, it made the soloing sound a tad brighter than I`m used to - but that easily can be fixed. It has great rhythm sounds
What a difference it makes to a highly paid review by the manufacturer vs usual ola style review
Cheers Ola!
Thanks for the love Ola, I sincerely appreciate that!
Ummm.... It has a programmable reverb control per patch.... I think you are thinking of the Tubemeister 36... Sorry if I ruined your day lol
PSMTCHEF He was talking about the Tubemeister Deluxe 40 not the Grandmaster
I never heard or seen a Hughes and kentter until I walked into a pawnshop in a small town in Texas, I seen this little bitty head sitting on a shelf so I started checking it out, I got a 4x12 cab and plugged it in and I was so amazed how this tubemister 5 sounded,
So I started looking online for this amp head and seen the comments and how good this amp was, I got it extremely cheap like $80.00, I think they didn't know what they had...
So now I have to say it was one of the best sounding tube heads I bought in a very long time
Interesting how Ola has evolved. He's now much confident on camera. Follow him since the first amp demo videos. Cheers.
I had an H&K Warp 7 when I was younger and it was a killer amp. They make great stuff.
Lol, i still have the 4x12 from the Warp7 cab😄
nice camera work Ola. as usual your playing sounds great. A very clear presentation.
If it’s good enough for Ola then it’s good enough for everyone!
Every Hughes&Kettner Amp is just great❤
Watching this video in December 2021. So different type of review compared to the recent ones, so serious. :)
Ola, really cool to see how your videos evolve and keep getting better and better!
is this a demo riff of a song from the new album? sounds awesome
I've played a SwitchBlade100 and it melted my face and shook shit off the walls . I would love this 40 with 4/12 cabinet .
Great review, you covered everything essential for a review of this amplifier. Great job
Wow, quite an amp! 40 watts should be quite enough volume for every situation. Decent sounding direct out would be great when doing quick demos.
Sounds unreal! great guitarist!! any chance of a victory kraken review??
James Brown i own one of these and its sick
Alex Oberhauser I'm rocking a v30 atm
James Brown never tried one... i also got a v40, its a killer blues amp... There is no victory dealer near my place so i need to order them by guessing. Alex Oberhauser good point but I'm not in the market for one tbh, I just got my v30 down at andertons. next thing for me is a horizon devices precision drive!
Rebea Massahd made a real good review, you know, the Afro Guitarst ^^
I have one on its way. That red box sounds surprisingly good. Looking forward to tempering insomnia with great tone...
I play strictly metal. Should I buy this or a Randall Satan 50w?
Dude...i just got the grandmeister 36 used but in great condition for 600 bucks. Stoked to be getting back into guitar again. I will be getting a solar guitar to go with it! Now if only i could play like Ola..
A tube amp that is better at being a modeling amp than most digital amps out there. Line 6 is going to go out of business :)
Radoslaw Dlugowski This isn't a modelling amp though...

"it's packed with tongues of different features"
Love you Ola!

Ola nice demo!! I want you to upload triamp mk3 video someday.
Hugh mungus and kettner
I've been looking at this and the ENGL Ironball SE, this one being 5 years older, makes me wonder how it holds up to the newer ENGL 🤔
HI I'm Ola englund and I'm here to show you that regardless what I'm playing it will melt your face off.
so much done right, iv got a mesa mk5 25 and i wish it had a way of turning its cab sim off on the DI
very nice sounding amp with cool effects and features! thanks for this video!
Holy shit, this could be my next gas purchase... the in built fxs and the soak powers are a very very cool addition. You can play in your bedroom and on a stage with 40w... This is like a cheap (atleast for us EU) version of a mark series.
YESSSS!!!! Ola,I've been hoping you'd do a reveiw of this amp,I own the Grandmeister 36 and I love it!!!!!
A little update,,,I now own both the Grandmeister 36 & 40 deluxe,,,and I don't have ANY regrets,,,these amps are the real deal.
Great Alternative for EVH 5150 in 50W, with great opportunities for sure. I would buy it for sure if I would not have great tone already.
I've been hoping someone would tone match one of these in bias for months. Sounds great.
I've been using the GM36 for years! It replaced my entire pedal board which used to be in a keyboard case, then I went to a podhd, soon abandoned for just the amp.
My friend Sebastian from Darkness Divided did a demo for H&K of this amp recently! It's super tight man.
excellent demo brola
Most informative amp video youve done Ola. Thank you.
just bought this amp, can't wait to get it
can you use this to gig and play big shows?
The Germans know how to build a really good metal amp. That is for sure.
What's the background music ? Sounds really good lol
Hi Ola... I'm from Brazil and I love your videos . Certainly my way to play the guitar is from your way. Thanks for share your happy and experience with us and... maybe , one day I Will can meet U and play together .
Pretty happy seeing Ola doing a demo of this amp =)
I bought the TubeMeister Deluxe 20 because of his size and his versality (i think it is not so different from this amp in the distortion section) and i added in front of a MXR GT-OD (even with the lead channel and boost activated) in order to have a high gain "Metal Djenty" distortion ^^".
Fucking brutal riffing. best in a long time
This amp is versatile as hell. the features are killer! Realy awesome!
What a perfect amp! Might need an overdrive pedal for your metal rhythm.
So for playing a style of metal such as deathcore would this be a good amp? I'm listening to this thing finally after looking and forgetting about it a few months ago and im being blown away by the tones this thing can produce but I'd like some input from other people
I have the grandmeister 36, the only amp id consider buying to registrations it would be this. It is amazing!!!!
hey ola. do you think you'll ever review some low watt/high gain lunchbox size heads? it'd be cool to see you demo the Ironball, Thrasher 50, 6505mh, etc.
Hola Ola! Hope this gets featured on the next FAQ. How come you stopped doing this format for demoing new gear like you did here?
Oooolllla thanks for this video, but! But what's Better this amp or the engl 20se To play at home and with the band? Thank you so much im going Crazy 😂
hows the headroom will it keep up on stage? I'm really digging this amp devon townshend did a nice review to
Try some discontinued or out of stock stuff.
Do I hear a new feared song? Definitely buying the new album.
I really hope that's a new Feared song in the background. I couldn't really pay attention to what you said, I was too concentrated on it.
Emulated output is surprisingly good!
Manual says you need an extra midi-wifi unit connected to this amp to use the app, am I correct?
Daniel Leonov yes, it can be used with any midi interface connected to ipad/android, i use midi-usb (with usb-otg adapter).
I bought this amp because I needed one for a gig instantly and the local guitar dealer had one in stock. I did like five minutes of research before and couldn't believe what they claimed about the amp. But it's true
Did you think about getting a Black Spirit 200 instead? Just wondering since I'm trying to decide between the 2
I tried the setting pictured at the beginning of the video but it doesnt sound like you..(30s)
sweet! why has no one else put out a product like this?
What is the song he played in the intro?
Ola, will be nice if you can use diferente pick up to make demos, because if you go from seymour duncan to dimarzio the amp will sound way diferent
I need that song from start of video!
I value your opinion so any info to help me make a decision on which cab to buy would be greatly appreciated.
this is everything line 6 spiders should be. I hate those amps. but if they had this quality then that would be cool
Must buy
Can this circuitry and more specific the El84's in this amp handle 7 or 8 strings?..I play 8 string and wonder if this would be "tight" enough.
So for silent recording of modern metal/tight high gain tones would the H&K GM deluxe 40 be a good option or would something like a peavey 6505 plus or bugera tririg and a cheap jet city attenuator/soak box be better?
Trying to keep it to around 1000€ if I can
This video says yes
im getting stiff looking at them blue lites!
saw demo of this amp on a different channel and was thinking that it would be awesome if Ola tried to get his tone out of this...time to start saving up :D
Sentient 6 Nevermore solo ¿im the only one who listen that? 1:39
How do you think this head would pair with the vox hand wired 2x12 with alnico blue speakers?
So why does my tubemesiter 18 Di sound like crap? Is that one meant to be post processed with an amp plugin? Or am I doing something wrong?
Whats a Trilogy like compared to this? Looking at first tube amp and there is one pretty cheap near me.
Amazing review btw \m/
that's like a miniature switchblade. love the concept, too bad i never got along with the h&k distortion sound
