    DT is the most criminally underrated guitarists in the last 25 years.

    • @minkorrh
      @minkorrh Год назад

      I wouldn't say that, I'd say the most criminally underrated 'musician/composer' in the last 25. 'There are lots of guitarists that would eclipse him technically, but it's his choice and composition that make wanking solos unnecessary in his music. All the solo parts I've heard from him were very fitting and tasteful, even though he's got chops to be -much- waayy more. I love wailing melodic solos, but after hours of messing around with him as a background, I don't see much room for it, while still remaining tasteful. He's very 'lydian' due to the natural open C tuning he uses and the note patterns that present themselves, but lydian has almost been done to death as a solo thing (Vai, Satriani), but he uses little bits in his songs that make it very tasteful and never overused. Yes, there are those songs that are begging for it, but it's a little more than obvious he's thinking further and deeper.

    The main thing that everyone forgets, is that he gets that tone due to it's low tuned guitar. That's why it sounds so thick and powerful. No need to copy his settings. Tune your guitar to open c and instantly you have thicker tone. Use the same settings with these in the video with a standard tuning guitar and the sound will be thin and not so great.

    I have been researching these to see if I can get my tone without relying on pedals. Apparently YES!
    I am getting this amp! I have been looking for a new Tube amp to replace my B-52 At-100 (go ahead and laugh, but it was an amazing amp until I plugged into a shitty power supply and my pre-amp blew a few caps. Replaced them but it never sounded the same again).
    Plus if Devy approves I am down. This was the most realistic amp demo I have seen. Looks just like anyone else at the music store fiddling with an amp to get the tone they are looking for.

    • @HughesandKettneramps
      @HughesandKettneramps  5 лет назад +1

      Awesome to hear! We'd not actually heard of the B-52 amp, but it looks pretty cool! Shame it's gone :( But we reckon you'll be happy with the GM40. It was exactly like that with Devin: he'd never seen the amp before, and we just filmed what happened... turned out pretty well! Hope you love the amp when you get to play it for yourself :)

    • @musicformysanity9050
      @musicformysanity9050 5 лет назад +1

      Very cool. I hate using pedals I personally feel that if you need a giant pedal board full of EQ's, overdrive, distortion and other preamps style sound modifiers then you bought the wrong amp. OR if you are going to use all of that then don't spend much on an amp because you are mostly using the power section and can get away with a considerably cheaper power amp. I am all about Guitar-Cable-Amp DONE!
      PS I am also NOT a fan of Mesa or Marshall, just sick of having those crammed down my throat all the time.

      I have my Tubemeister 18 for almost 3 years now and I still can't say that I'm super satisfied. People on the internet really praise them, but for me it has been hit or miss so far.
      I really want to love my amp, but I can't. Maybe it's all my cheap cabinet's fault. What cab are you using?

    • @ecorona21
      @ecorona21 6 лет назад

      @RevonFyll
      The Peavey 6505+ has been my main amp for a couple of years now, I got it based on all positive reviews and comparisons, but it was not what I expected, it has been a pain and struggle trying get to sound good, its a love hate thing, so I decided to switch to another brand after playing with en ENGL and a Mark IV in rehearsals. I wanted to mention this because I know what you are going thru.
      I bought the Tubemeiser just because it was on sale and because I dont really need a 120W amp. I have a Marshall 1960 cab that I barely use and a custom 2x12 cab that I build with V30s, its a copy of a oversize Mesa 2x12. I did not struggle to get a great sound on either channel except on the "Lead" channel, if the boost is not on it doesn sound good to me, short after I got the SD 805 OD pedal and wow sounds great on both channels. If you have a chance try it on a different CAB, go to your local guitar store and take your amp try different CABs, if still doesn't convince you then this is not the amp for you, I know people change the stock tubes to fit their playing that may be another way to go for you.

    • @revonfyll
      @revonfyll 6 лет назад

      @Enrique Corona
      Thanks for the reply.
      For reference, my cab is a Kustom Defender (really low end stuff). I've tried my TM18 on a Fender Hot Rod Deville once (using the built-in speaker as a cab) and I remember it sounding a lot better, but still not quite there.
      I also think it sounds better with single coils. My guitar has EMG's on it, and I think they are killing a lot of the tone.
      If I can, I will try my amp with a Celestion Vintage 30. The matching cab for the Tubemeister is loaded with one, so I'm guessing it might be a good match.

      the amp is amazing, clean headroom is a little lacking with lower wattage settings but I now let the PA do all the work. really nothing negative to say about this amp. I'm actually using it live more now over my mesa dual and bogner shiva. just so easy to get a fantastic sound everytime through the sound system.

    You should do cabsim out as downloadable through SDcards IR loader (as LeCab2 VST type) or something like that. Couse all cabsim outs still sucks. So I need just load my favorite Impulses (even layers of impulses) and tweak them to get tone I want. And direct it in mixer when live (ready for mixer sound).

    • @escalator9734

      the direct looks like it's pretty good. I'm very very picky with impulses, I've tried hundreds and only use 2 or 3, and I like the sound that I heard for the direct out on other vids.
      But that's still a good idea

    Hmm seems to sound great. Just one question; are the built-in effects before the FX loop, or after it? It's very important to me, because I use my looper pedal a lot, and I need it to be after all effects (maybe reverb doesn't affect as much as the other effects).

    • @HughesandKettneramps
      @HughesandKettneramps  4 года назад +1

      We did think about that at the time years ago, but that would make the amp significantly more expensive, and prone to extra kinds of breakage. Would you pay a couple of hundred dollars more for pots that physically moved? If you would, let us know - that's the kind of feedback we always pass on to R&D!

    • @fretboardrunner
      @fretboardrunner 4 года назад +1

      @@HughesandKettneramps I think I would. Or as a compromise, make a smaller 20 W version with less knobs but let them rotate. I don't really need more than 20W ever, since for concerts the cab is mic'd anyway and for rehearsals and home recording/practicing 20 is already overkill with most amps.
      From a UX point it's a huge advantage: It's so often that I have to slightly tweak some settings due to the acoustics of the studio or venue I'm in and searching the point it was saved on is just annoying.
      I did not expect it to be as expensive thought, I would've estimated around 100-200€ for this feature. I guess there's a reason why the Hook Wizard which does this is jsut under 3k€.
      Maybe there are other solutions, but I guess displays or light rings put off the old school crowd. I personally wouldn't hate something like on the old Peavey Vypyr amps. Could be a lot cheaper than rotating pots, but has to work lag-free and granular enough.

    • @HughesandKettneramps
      @HughesandKettneramps  4 года назад +1

      @@fretboardrunner Thanks for all the feedback! We've passed it on, as we said.
      Yes, it's a tough call balancing everything out - the cost of the tech, versus the look of it, the desire to not put off certain people, etc. You're right that light rings can put people off - we've used them in a few older amps too, back in the day, and some people really don't like them. That said, these days our amps are blue-lit and Plexiglas, so maybe we're not going to appeal to certain old-school players anyway and we should just go for it ;) Ultimately, we're a brand that does like to push tech forward, as evidenced by the amps we make, and so maybe this is something we'll look into reintegrating in the future!

    GREAT demo! GREAT playing! Defvin always impresses (and I especially loved the 'puppies' passage!) Really, this may VERY well be my next amp purchase for sure.
    But I also have five questions:
    (1) Is the boost controllable _and_ programable at all-especially to each patch? (Rather than a one-size-fits-all bump up in volume whenever you hit it.)
    (2) Does the Noise Gate save its position per patch? (I'm expecting so.)
    (3) Where along the signal path does the FX Loop sit?
    (4) Does the MIDI Out send patch commands to other MIDI-receptive pedals such as outboard delays etc.
    (5) Could a Helix substitute for the H&K footswitch to change patches via MIDI, plus be able to add its own effects in via the amp's FX Loop, too? A la the '4CM'?
    Yeah, lotsa questions, but TIA!
