    I just bought a TubeMeister Deluxe 40 today and I simply love it. The sound is so good. I especially love the Lead channel and the fact that the Clean channel has got its own EQ. This feature is really nice to have. I also thought about trying out the GrandMeister but I realized that it has got all these features that I don't need. I simply needed an amp that sounds great, is easy to use, has got at least two channels and has got the option of running the signal directly into an audio interface. And that is exactly what the TubeMeister offers.

    This is my main amp head. Works and sounds great. I've gotten several positive comments over the years that it sounds killer. I tend to agree with them. I use the midi foot controller with it when I play and this has allowed me to minimize the pedals on my board. I use pedals in the effects loop, and they shine through it. Don't need any overdrive pedals as you can program any level of gain and save it to one of the 128 presets using the footswitch and also the boost as Hunter states. It's a very feature rich amp. Well done H&K. Love from 🇨🇦!

      I had the Grandmeister. Had research the hell out of it was sold, and the distortion was way too fizzy for me, not enough clarity. There was a lot of online forums talking about changing the "cheap chinese tubes" to some JJs and it immediately made a difference, but for the initial, cost, I feel it should have come with better tubes. Immediately took it back and got a Friedman Dirty Shirley 20 watt. Never looked back!

    The grandmeister 40 deluxe is awesome. One of the biggest things I love about it is that you can turn the cabinet emulation clean off on the DI out. With the Katana (mk1) you couldn't, and that was a deal breaker for me.

    • @benallmark9671
      @benallmark9671 2 года назад +1

      Why , what does that do exactly ? Make it quit for bedroom use ? How are they for getting great breakup tones while keeping quit in an apartment ?

    • @ERWebster
      @ERWebster 2 года назад +3

      @@benallmark9671 Turning the cabinet emulation clean off means that you can take the output from the amp, run it directly into your audio interface and assign any impulse response (IR) you want. I don't know if you know, but IRs are an audio map made of a real cabinet/speaker combo. That means you can try many free IRs and not be constrained to the one in the unit.
      Regarding breakup tones, they are awesome. First, they have individual channel volumes you can crank, as well as a master volume you can turn down. However, it is true that you have to turn up the amp enough for the power tubes to show their character, and that is where the power soak (aka attenuator) comes in. You can cut the amp down to 20W, 5w, and 1W and then crank the Master up enough to get that full sound at low volume.
      Lastly, you can combine these features: Set the amp to 0W (no speaker output at all), run the DI into your audio interface with a good IR, and then change the settings freely on the amp to get the best tone while adjusting the final output volume on your computer (ideally through a good pair of studio monitors for best sound).

      @@ERWebster thanks so much for take it the time to explain this to me. I’m pretty new in the guitar world and this explains a lot more then I’ve learned in watching shit tons of videos looking for answers like these. Thanks again. IYO is this amp still worth buying or are there better options now ? I have a chance to but one and I see it’s reg brand new selling for $1500 Canadian , I can get a used one in mint shape for $1000. What do you think. I have no tube amps and kinda want one but already have the Katana , Spark , Mustang. Do I need it ?

    • @ERWebster
      @ERWebster 2 года назад +1

      @@benallmark9671 My opinion is that the amp still holds it's own against amps released this year. Only a few amps can match it's feature set (although they are becoming more common), and they are generally more expensive. It does have a competant set of effects (reverb, delay, modulation) including a decent built in noise gate. All of the controls have a per-channel memory, so you can set up each channel exactly as you want independently.
      Tone wise I think it sounds awesome, but that is very subjective. To my ears, it competes well against everything in it's price range, it can be loud as hell, and it is a geniune tube amp from pre-amp to power amp. No modeling, no digital in the main signal chain. I honestly didn't think it would matter to me as much as it has, but with this amp I can finally get the distortion character that I had been trying to find. The clean channel is also lovely, open and full. (I also have a Katana mk1 100W head in the garage, and it is a really good amp and unquestionably the best bang for the buck on the amp market; but if I had to choose only one, I would keep the H&K no doubt.)
      Finally, it takes pedals really well except for one ... tubescreamer. My guess is something in the amps EQ is already slightly boosting similar frequencies, and every tubescreamer and clone I have tried comes out as quite clangy and harsh. Honestly, it might explain why it isn't more popular that it ought to be, since everyone and their mother owns a tubescreamer and is used to having one in front of their amp. This amp does provide an alternative though, in the form of the Boost button which seems to be EQ'd better to the amp and will absolutely take a crunch setting to rocknroll and the Ultra setting to death metal chug zone.
      Bottom line: I don't think you will be disappointed, and even if you are or in the future you want to move on to something else, these hold their value really well.

    Okay, so I'm looking for a bit of advice from those of you guitarists who are in the loop. I've played in a number of metal bands throughout the late 1980s through the 1990s, then life took over, family, kids, etc... I used to own a 50 watt Marshall JCM800, and couldn't begin to count how many live shows I put that amp through. That same amp head also served as my practice amp. Eventually I had to pawn that amp for money, and have been seriously considering psychological therapy ever since just to find out WTF I was thinking! Anyway, I'm now at 55 years old and embarking on my mid life crisis, and want to get into another band. Either that or go out and get a 19 year old girlfriend, but my wife seems to think getting back into a band might be the better option. However, the only amp I own now is a little Yamaha practice amp, definitely not suitable for anything other than practicing alone and recording. Amps have come a long long way since I've been out of the loop, so I'm looking for some advice as I shop for a new amp head to be able to play live with a band. I'm looking to be able to go from an AC/DC sound to a more modern metal tight low end sound like Five Finger Death Punch, and a few sounds in between. Any advice on such an amp head? Or does such an amp not exist?

    (GM40) Do you find that the switching presets can go from a low volume to a
    terrible super loud volume, I found changing from a clean preset to ultra preset
    on some banks can blast you to the point I worry about my speaker.
    This is with master volume 10% setting. Maybe it just my unit but would be nice to hear this is normal.

      some / most guitars will have thgat part of the strings make nois while playing and it gets into to signal to the amp..once you can hear it, you cant un-hear it.
      so people put those clamps (and other things) there to kill the vibrations of the strings behind the nut

      My Grandmeister 40 doesn't do the overdriven thing the way I like it. Maybe I'll buy a ToneX and use the Grandmeister's power section to amplify it.
      I'm really undecided.

    Having had 2 Hughes and kettner amps, IMO they are good amps, but they are terribly noisy and sometimes the treble, even if you have it all the way off is still very ice picky. They aren't bad amps though. Better for practice

    • @topikarhunen827
      @topikarhunen827 2 года назад

      Took me years to figure that it's the presence knob that makes it "icy picky". When you turn it below 9 o'clock it becomes very pleasant. Also very bad combination with V30 speakers, they also make it very ear piercing. When you have fixed these two things it sounds great!
