- Altaïr in Assassin's Creed: Revelations was supposed to have a different voice actor. Presumably Philip Shahbaz from the first game before he was replaced by Cas Anvar.

@@WingOfSteel but the original voice actor actually is of Middle Eastern descent, same as the one from ACRev, they didn't have to change the actor, could have just asked the og to change the accent lol

I can't describe it, but the way he delivers his lines, and his impetuous tone of voice makes him sound much closer to AC1 Altair. Did Shahbaz do this recording or was it Anvar?
I think, it's the sharp tone of his voice.
Also, going off of the description from this video. I think, it's supposed to be Shahbaz's voice lines before they were cut.

It's conviction. Conviction is enough to win a war. The conviction in his voice means he is absolutely certain of what he is fighting for with not an inkling of doubt. Maybe that was because this was the life he was born into but I don't know
Wow. Finding out this was the E3 demo of Revelations, i wondered why Altaïr's voice was different. This is pretty cool to watch.

What makes this even more idiotic, is that Shahbaz was hired originally because of his Arabic accent, but guillemot, being a cretin that he is, personally told Shahbaz and Jade Raymond to voice Altair with a 'murican accent instead, so that "he will stand out from the rest of the cast and feel more relatable to players". I have no words, really.
It wasn't Guillemot who personally told them it was Patrice Désilets the game director Phil says as much when asked abt it. I highly doubt Guillemot was having any interferences with this project cause it wass so new and wasn't known if it would be successful or what about it would be a success. It was Patrice's ultimate decision as the creative director
@@Lin_Eileen from what I can remember, given how long ago it was, guillemot held the game's production on a leash almost as much as desilets, specifically because of shareholder worries about a brand new project that also changed quite drastically during production from being a simple Prince of Persia spinoff. Do you have a link to where Shahbaz clearly states that it was desilets' decision? Legit curious now, my memory is just not what it used to be.
Shahbaaz is a muslim, and Guillemot being a French racist as he was, it's obvious that he'd remove him.

I actually like this voice not because it is a copy of AC 1, but because it is the voice but with improved dialect. Altaïr's new voice sounded a little too over expressed imo.

I'm unsure if this is Shahbaz, but this sounds way better than the final game's regardless. Pretty weird how E3 had better VA-work.
Altair doesn’t even need a new trilogy written they just need to turn his overall lore from the shitty phone games (mad how they put great lore in crap phone games) and the books and make them a fully fledged trilogy maybe with AC1 being the last entry before reuniting again in revelations if they did that I’d binge through all the classic AC games just to see an entire story that isn’t the trash we get these days

@@PrincessNine Not sure if it's actually canon, or just head-canon. Either way, its better to think that the reason why Altair sounded american in the first game is because, like you said, makes it easier for the user to understand things, or its because the Animus being used is older and it just uses the user's voice for the person's memories he's viewing.
Kinda like how in AC2 to Revelations is explained that the reason why the characters will inject Italian at random when speaking is because of a glitch in the Animus.
What do mean much better? This is the exact same voice actor as the released game. This is not the voice actor from AC 1.
@@HellsGayngelYes, this is the voice actor from AC1. In the first game he spoke with an American accent. This is the E3 demo of Revelations where he spoke with an Arabic accent, before they recast him with someone else that also spoke an Arabic accent
The "American accent" Philip did in AC1 sounds way cooler.

I'd prefer a clear English with well-pronounced Arabic idioms scattered in. He wasn't speaking English after all.

@user-fb1mw2nl3i the characters already speak modern english in the fucking middle ages, I don't think the accents being inaccurate is really an issue, especially when the machine that the entire game revolves around literally translates shit for the protagonist, by your logic any movie that takes place in a historical setting where they wouldn't be speaking current-ish english is unwatchable.
@@nnnnmhughuuhhjiijj9457 reasons behind the choice of americanize Altair might be questionable, but you can't deny the guy in who played Altair in AC1 was a much better fit character wise, they could've just directed him to have an accent instead of replacing him all toghether, the other guy is simply not as impactful.
One of the worst things ubi did was recast Altairs voice.

I’ve always justified it in world that the animus is artificially altering his voice to help Desmond acclimate. Altairs voice sounds very robotic and artificial in a lot of places, like it’s being squeezed through an AI filter. Figured it was an MGS2 reference.
I honestly think Altair’s original voice, the one without the accent in the first assassins creed is the best. Fight me.

Agreed. Loved the American accent. Made him feel unique amongst the world
AC1 Altair is/was perfect both as young and arrogant Altair.
Revelations Altair the only time I liked was when the game shows Altair's older years. To me the new voice sounded like an old man, so I liked it during the last memories. But for the young Altair parts, they could've easily kept AC 1 Altair's voice.
But the truth is, I don't care about the accent. AC1 Altair had a badass voice, Ubisoft should've kept it.
Besides, I don't understand the b*tching about the accent. Did every other AC protagonist had a perfect accent?
I actually prefer the American accent Altair it was badass, and it makes sense because they can do that in the animus to make him more relatable

His Bloodlines voice was the best.

I prefer the original voice, he was cold and calculating, the way you'd expect an orphan raised to be nothing more than an executioner to sound, I don't hate the other voice just feel like the forst one fits better

Sounds very similar. The new voice did not feel out of place for me even if it was not the original. I was never one of the fans who was incredibly upset over the recast.

If you listen to the lines in ACR, they're a different take. This is presumably Shahbaz from AC1, but using his native accent, rather than the American accent that the director made him use. Unless it's Anvar, I truly don't know

He asked for too much money, some ridiculous sum and they had to replace him, this is why also Ezio's/Altair's face look different, the faces were made after the voice actor.

For me AC1 Altair's voice is the most badass, interesting how without the American accent it loses a lot of that rebel charisma it had.

They should've casted Philipe Shahbaz again for this!! It doesn't make Cas Anvar any less good though they're both amazing. They're a bit similar but Shahbaz brings a more mature tone ti young Altair which wasn't thr case at first he was brash and impulsive which Cas Anvar did well in these first sequences.
