I'm not a video shooter, but you have helped me understand LUTs, video space, and color bits. More "knowledge" helps me build my understanding. Thank you.
Same here. I reckon this to be the most comprehensible introduction to video color grading I've come across in a while. Thank you, Math, for putting all the effort into these highly educational tutorials.
Amazing, Math, nothing else pops into my mind. What a waterfall of information. I already send all the Leica YT channels that I follow, that use a Q , to your channel to get the ins and outs of that wonderful camera cause a lot of people don't get the potentials of this camera and the sensor. The Q3 is next level shooting by all means. Thanks so much for all the work you put into this, wonderful. Wishing you a great weekend and keep the goodies coming ;-) Greetings Rob
Thanks Rob, really nice feedback! Much appreciated. The Q3 is IMHO the best compact camera, offers everything a photographer and videographer can think of and has an amazing high resolution sensor. And there will be more features coming with new firmware. For instance, the SL2(-S) has a feature called "follow focus" which is not yet on the Q3. I bet its coming soon with firmware. The feature allows for very smooth focus pull between three different target subjects and you can also adjust the focus speed. Have a great Sunday!
Thank you so much for the series of videos. I was lucky to get my hands on a Q3 a few weeks ago and as this was my 1st Leica these have been really very helpful. I think I’ll need to go through them a couple of times to really get to grips with the camera as they are extremely comprehensive! This is an extremely valuable resource, than you for putting in so much of your time into this series. I for one really appreciate it.
Great video! Got my Q3 and the log color profile was exactly what I needed to know! I didn’t know that it was only available in the mov settings! So very helpful! Great video!
Thank you Math for your real good videos. I just got my Q3 today. I will use it boh for photo and video. Browsing all menus, I see the 8K and C8K grayed out. do you have any idea why ?
For video work, I have heard that the Q3 suffers from rolling shutter. Could you please provide more information about this issue and how to mitigate it? I am also curious to know if the resolution (such as 4K or HD) affects it. Additionally, I would like to know if using a stabilizer is enough to prevent rolling shutter. By the way, I think your videos are great!
Another great video from you on the Q3. A couple things to note. The internal Classic and Natural LUTs on the Q3 that can be used for monitoring do not render the same as the ones on Leica's site. IMO, the ones on the site are superior, so if you want to use Classic or Natural on the camera use the ones provided on the site for the SL2S and load them as you've detailed in the video. One thing missing form this video which think could benefit some users is external recording via HDMI. There's some overlap with the sections on monitoring but there are differences in the external recording capabilities vs internal.
Many thanks for another helpful discussion on putting the Q3 to good use. Your Q3 videos are particularly helpful to a first time user such as myself. I have watched these more than once each; the second or third time a bit slower. An issue that puzzles me is the Mass Storage option and what use to make of it- your thoughts?
Thanks for the positive feedback! Unfortunately, the Q3 has only one SD Card slot and no internal memory like the M11. Would have been great if Leica included an SSD-chip also in the Q3 for backup of images. Maybe the space was not there ... The Q3 is more compact than the M11.
I do not know if this is the way to contact you but I have watched all of your Q and SL2 videos. Based on your help, I now have a M11 with three Leica M lens. My question is this: I just purchased a used SL2 and want to know WHAT adaptor I should buy to use my M lens on my new SL? Is their a very equal option to the $450 Leica M adaptor? HELP……thank you in advance as I am a new, 77 year old, photography learner!!
Thank you for you very detailed videos: I remember you mentioned that in Multi-resolutions you are still able to shoot 8k Video - So, does that mean 8K video in a lower resolution may decrease noise? I wonder if you have noticed any noise improvement then. I am wondering also if the USB-C port could be put to more use by recording RAW video to SSD - something that could be achieved via firmware - and more in keeping with the small form factor (like the Sigma FP).
Hello. Always happy with your videos. One question. Can the Q3 replace the quality and dynamic photos in black and white, compared to the monochrome Q2?
Hi can i ask why you didnt double yhe frame rate for your shutter speed. Does that not matter in this camera? I see you were effectively at 30fps and shooting shutter 1/50 which is near. I only ask because i have had some flickering lights in my shots when shutter is correct but when i set it to automatic it goes away
great as usual. Q3 has gotten quite capable in the video department now :) (btw I am still waiting). Will be interesting with which external micro solution Leica will come up
Thanks Armin. Sorry to hear you are still waiting, hope your Q3 comes soon into your hands :) External micro solution is a good topic, maybe Leica makes an adapter via USB-C. Clearly for videographers the lack of an external micro option is a minus.
So there is no way to directly (in camera) bake a LUT into the video file? I saw another review stating it was possible but after looking at this it seems like it’s only possible if recording externally..
Unfortunately, the lead time for a Q3 in the UK seems to be 6-8 months from the placing of an order (February-March 2024). Unless this is another “Brexit” benefit we weren’t told about, Leica should really get their supply in order before the launch (May 2023). Pity, looks like a great camera.
You assume a lot of knowledge on the behalf of the viewer. My knowledge is limited to how to take video on an iPhone. How about a video bridging the gap and saving this one for more advanced users.

Never thought I’d see Python codes in a camera video 😂 now i see why the channel is called MATHS photographer 👍 great video very informative
I’m finding the video challenging keeps going in and out of focus and having trouble finding focus of subjects do you have any tips on the settings

Awesome! As usual, best information! Many thanks! 😊

I have a Q3 and love it. What solution do you recommend for audio input, lacking a dedicated microphone input jack?

Thank you for the video. How would you expose l-log? How far would you push the iso up to in low light situation?

Which video mode with stabilizationdo you use for continuous Auto Focus?

@@mathphotographer Leica Shop Nuremberg was supposed to get 8 until end of July :D well well :D
Does the Leica official Q3 soft release fit on the Leica M-A?
informative content.
Thanks John.

Does the Q3 have a wider fov than a 28mm prime? Or is this a red herring ?

Fully agree, production seems slow and shipping too.
I just tried 4K mov at 24 fps on the Q3. Files could not be played on QuickTime. Any one else?
You did not mention image stabilisation which the Q3 does not offer in-body stabilisation.
I just found a way to play Leica 10 bit files on Mac, using VLC player
found my Q3 enroute from Europe
'promosm' 👍
Вывод? зря купили?
Too complicated for me. I will stick to photo shooting and skip video if this is what it takes to do that. Very thorough video however.

Hi- I was trying to find your contact info to send you a message though I can’t find anything. It is possible I can email or IG you?
