I was considering a Q3 vs a used Q2 and no one has ever talked about the perspective control at all. I’ve only discovered it after owning the Q3 for a few days. Honestly has an architecture photographer this is such a game changer I’m surprised no one puts more emphasis on it
The videos in this level of detail are great, a real enrichment for me! It would be nice if there was also information about flash photography ! Thank you in advance!
Thank you very much for this tutorial which allows you to really understand all the features of this Q3. If I may add one thing: the EVF extended makes it possible to automatically run on the LCD screen when it is oriented. We're counting on you to explain the new features of the next updates if there are any, by the way, if Leica is reading this message (😅) I would very much like multi-exposure to be included in a future update.
What an awesome tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to do this. By the way, the way you organize your chapters makes getting around the video easy -thanks!!
Big thanks to this 2nd tutorial. You’ve done a great job. I’ve read the whole Q3 manual but it’s more pleasant to look your video to complete some information by example. Have a nice day.
Thanks for very detailed videos on the Q3. Much appreciated. Just checking, did you make (or will you be making) a separate video on flash photography on the Q3?. Would be great to see you're thoughts and tips on this.
Amazing video series! Thank you for taking the time to make the Q3 set up videos. Really helped me with setting up and understating how the camera functions. In one of the videos you mentioned a video about flash. Was curious if you would have time to ever record a video on q3 flash?
Excellent video as usual.I hope you can shed some light on a question about the thumbwheel setting options. I cannot set the thumb wheel to have the full shutter speed range. Meaning I have to use the shutter dial to select for example 1/125 and then I can turn the thumbwheel in 1/3 stops a few clicks before I have to select 1/250. Can you have the Thumbwheel as the main shutterdial and adjust the shutter speed the entire range? I have set the shutter for hybrid, and the thumb wheel to AUTO (I can only select ISO, Exposure comp and auto) I assume you can do this on the Q3 as it's possible on the Q2 (which I don't have any more).
Thank you for posting. Quick question: Did you ever post a video explaining the Q3 flash options? You mentioned in this video that you would, but can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.
This is great, I’d love downloadable profiles that I can load to sd card based on your reco. For eg active, portrait etc and we can tweak but you’re so much faster. Thank you by the way, great video.
Hello. Always happy with your videos. One question. Can the Q3 replace the quality and dynamic photos in black and white, compared to the monochrome Q2?
Wonderful video. Got my Q3 today. So wonderful. Quick question - how do the "scenes" differ from the "user profiles". I have used user profiles on my M11 and SL2. Scenes seems like a pre-configured "user profile". Is that right, or am I missing something?
Tahnk you very much for your work! I have a lot of questions but the first one is: about AEL and the AFL, as you said in order to lock the exposure or the Af you press the assigned button. this works for the first shot but what about if you want to lock the AE or/and the AF and take more than one shot with AE or AF locked? Up to now you can only take one shot because after the shot the AEL and AFL it's gone! Is there a way to keep the AEL or/and AFL locked till you press again the AEL/AFL assigned button? What I really miss on this camera is a real back button focus in order to use AFC while the assigned button is kept pressed and have the possibility to take many pictures you want with the AF locked till you press again the button. The problem is that on the Q3 there isn't the possibility to take of the AF from the shutter button!
Thank you for a good review of the Leica Q3 Menu. May I ask about the Leica M11? Does the M11 have a similar Menu system? There are of course no settings with AF etc. But does the new PHOTO app work in the same way? I have been a photographer for many years and the importance of settings (that it is simple, but there are also the settings I need to use) is important today. Also that the connection to the iPhone and computer work well. e.g. via app.
Hello, thank you for your excellent assistance. I have a serious problem with the Leica Q3 I just bought. The camera's settings constantly change without my consent. For example, the setting I made to shoot only DNG automatically changes to DNG&JPG. Then I set the ISO to 100 and it automatically switches to Auto ISO without my consent. This problem also occurs also in some other settings. I tried to solve the problem with my own means, but I couldn't. Maybe Am I doing something wrong while adjusting the settings? Do I need to lock the settings I made? If so, how and how is locking done? I would appreciate it if you could guide me on how to solve my problem. With thanks, Moiz Cukurel👋
Great vid as always! So I have a plan to make user profiles each with a different digital zoom and raw file size. So I can shoot a 28mm pic in lowest size raw file size and up in steps up to 90mm in largest raw file size (60MP) therefore getting the optimum pixels to compensate for the zoom. Can I then allocate a button to toggle the profiles? Would be very useful for street shots where you need to get closer to the action very quickly for instance……or is there a better way to do this? Hope my question was clear! Thanks Ken
I recommend to not use one of the four (rare) buttons for toggling user profiles but to use the status screen and tap on user profile. Thanks for the nice feedback, Ken.
Thanks. we start to understand. In your pixel binning and dynamic range video i had the impression that the M and even the S setting are better than the L except for very large prints. But in part I as well as in part II you always use L setting. In the night photography video you use L and long exposure on a tripod but never S in comparison with L or M. Are there issues with M and S settings?
I love the video, but I’m having a problem with my Q3. Any idea how to prevent the video on function two button from activating? I think it’s a firmware bug. Please help!
I recently purchased a Q3 before travelling to Asia on holiday. During my travels, I have observed a few issues, which I hope stem from firmware or Adobe Lightroom, rather than hardware. I exclusively shoot in DNG format and use Lightroom for editing. I've noticed that the white balance is significantly deviated from my expectations. I estimate that the Kelvin readings in Lightroom are misaligned by approximately +1,000 to 1,400 Kelvin. To illustrate, an image taken in direct daylight (neither in the shade nor under cloud cover) typically gravitates towards a 7,000 temperature instead of the expected 5,500. For comparison, I've also captured some images using my Q3 and my son's Fuji XT4. The XT4 WB is operating as expected. Have you noticed any WB issues when importing the Q3 DNG files into Lightroom?
@@mathphotographer even when I set a manual Kelvin, for example to 5500, it will import into Lightroom at 6850. This is with no profile applied, and with all settings in Lightroom reset just to make 100% sure.
@@mathphotographer This are the findings I have emailed to Leica (who are looking into the issue): This afternoon I performed more tests using all of the in-camera manual K values. I was using Aperture Priority (at f5.6) Auto ISO and Large DNG. Here's the data I've collected, where 'C' denotes the in-camera white balance settings in Kelvin (K) in my Leica camera, and 'L' indicates the corresponding value interpreted by Adobe Lightroom: C = 2000K, L = 2400K C = 2200K, L = 2700K C = 2400K, L = 2900K C = 2700K, L = 3300K C = 3000K, L = 3650K C = 3300K, L = 4050K C = 3600K, L = 4450K C = 3900K, L = 4850K C = 4200K, L = 5250K C = 4600K, L = 5750K C = 5000K, L = 6300K C = 5500K, L = 6850K C = 6000K, L = 7350K C = 6500K, L = 8000K C = 7200K, L = 8700K C = 8000K, L = 9600K C = 8700K, L = 10500K C = 9500K, L = 11750K C = 10300K, L = 13000K C = 11500K, L = 15000K As you can see, the primary observation from this data is a clear and increasing discrepancy between the in-camera white balance and the corresponding value interpreted by Adobe Lightroom. It is apparent that the difference is not constant but grows as the white balance setting rises, suggesting a non-linear relationship. Moreover, the ratio between the camera and Lightroom values (C/L) indicates an increase from about 0.83 (2000/2400) to around 0.77 (11500/15000). This trend further emphasises the non-linear nature of this discrepancy.
Hi Math, I recently watched an older video and I noticed you moved from C1P to LR? Why was that? Also, how is that M11 Dynamic Range video coming along?
I use both, Capture One and Lightroom. Depending on what camera I was shooting with. Since I now have the new Phase One XC IQ4 I will go for CO more often :)
