  • Today we are checking out my yellow neocaridina shrimp tank.
    Its a 55 gallon with 1 BN pleco, and a few Oto cats. Oh, and like 500 yellow neos!!
    These are a variation of cherry shrimp, in which yellow was the selected color.
    I've had this colony going for well over a year. I started with 5 or so good quality yellows. Its taken a few different arrangements over the year to get to where it is now.

    I used to have those small floating plants as well. They are very hard to get rid of.

    Those are awesome!

    Wow that's awesome. With that amount of moss and plants you might be able to forego a filter altogether and maybe just add an airstone.

      Possibly, but I always run filters to help with water movement at least. Thanks for watching!

      @@beardedbobsfishroom7654just started keeping shrimp so I've been binging on YT videos. 20 plus years of keeping fish I don't know why I didn't get into this sooner. I hope to have a nice colony like yours. It's a good thing I had mature aquariums to house these guys in. I assumed they would be like fish and thrive in a newly cycled setup.

      Mature aquariums are a huge bonus. Same goes for me, one day I saw a video about shrimp, and the next day I had 27 aquariums most of them full of shrimp! Lol. Good luck, and have fun with the hobby!

    I have 4 very high grade yellow shrimp but i got 17 more but they arent as yellow. What will happen if the high grade breed with the low grade

      You may get a mix of good and bad, but it depends on lineage. You could just make sure after a few months, that you start culling the bad from the tank. I have a separate 40 gallon tank where all of my culls go... good luck!!

    you really have a nice tank! can i ask how do you water change for your neocaridina shrimps?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  Год назад +1

      I change about 10% of the water a week by pumping water in. I have automatic overflows on the tank

      @@beardedbobsfishroom7654 ahh 10% is enough for shrimps? because it looks samll change of water

      @@ichokimsh yep, at least 10% a week keeps the water clean and consistent!

    My yellow cherry shrimp are turning brown on their head what does that mean?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  3 года назад

      Usually its because they are females getting ready to breed. That part would be called a saddle and its the eggs before fertilization.

    What can a yellow shrimp and a cherry shrimp make I want to cross

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  4 года назад +1

      Neocaridina are different than caridina, crossing neos usually will end up in some wild type offspring, but with lots of culling, you can create whatever you would want. Check out my videos on my colonies, some were created from my cull tank!

    Those are huge crypts! Mine tend to stay small since I don’t fertilize. May just have to do that. Do you sell any plants or shrimps?

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654

      Im way up north, where the temps are still in the single digits to below zero. But in the summer months, I will be selling and shipping!

    is this the same species with red cherry shrimp? if they are the same species, so can I assume that they have the SAME "easy" to care?

    Awesome tank! I also have the yellows!
    When I tried to grow my moss, I failed and algae got all over the moss. How can I avoid this?😢

    • @beardedbobsfishroom7654
      @beardedbobsfishroom7654  4 года назад

      Try to reduce the time your light is on, also, play around with fertilizer, try adding more for a while and see if that helps, sometimes low levels of ferts can create an imbalance and algae loves that...
